Cisco Network Assistant topology view problem
hello! I have a problem. I just installed Cisco Network Assistant on my computer, scanned the network and found my switches. The problem is that when the program builds the topology, it desplays the switches in two raws but doesnt draw the links between them. Before installing CNA, i configured the switches with the following commands to enable CNA to see them:
switch# conf t
switch(config)# ip http server
switch(config)# ip http secure-server
switch(config)# ip http max-connections 16
switch(config)# ip http ip timeout-policy idle 180 life 180 requests 25
switch(config)# end
switch#
Is there any other settings that i have to make for CNA to show the links between the switches? Thank you very much!
Both the Catalyst 4506 and 4506-E are supported by CNA. You need to verify reachability from the CNA host and that the target Catalyst has the http (or https) server active. With that, it should work fine.

Cisco Network Assistant and add to comunity problem via HTTPS
hello,
i have big network of cisco switches and all is in my cisco network assistant in comunity connected via HTTPS. if i add new switch to network (all for HTTPS access is configured good: domain name, ip http secure-server, authenticate locale ...) and if i can add this switch to comunity (right click on icon and ADD TO COMUNITY), CNA say "Unable to Connect", because it can connect to switch via HTTP (i have disable it on switch), not via HTTPS. i have never version of CNA ... where is problem? why it not connect to switch via HTTPS? hmmm? thank you ... Peter"The HTTP server interface must be enabled to display the network assistant. " Source.
You can put an access-list on the http server if you are concerned about security exposure. -
Cisco Network Assistant restore problem
Hi,
Recently been using Cisco Network Assistant 5.4 to back up the configuration of my Catalyst 3500XL switches. However, yesterday for the first time I tried using the Maintenance/Configuration Archive Restore function to load the configuratin on a factory default switch. The restore went well, and I can see my settings in running-config. But as soon as the config loaded and the switch reset was done, all of the FastEthernet ports were not working. Resetting the switch to factory default does restore the ports. Tried this Resore on a second switch and the same thing happened. The port status show as "FastEthernet0/1 is down, link protocol is down". This port is enabled in the configuration. I can't see any reason for the ports to drop out after reloading the configuration..... can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Allenfigured out what the problem was. The laptop I was using to program the Cisco switches had been used the previous week to program some PLCs, so the laptop ethenet port was set to 10MBs/Half Duplex. The running-config of the switches has "speed 100, duplex full" set for all the ports. So before the configuration was loaded, the ethernet port connections worked, I didn't notice I was connecting at 10/Half. Once the Restore was done, it would drop all connections like the laptop trying to connect at 10MBs. So all the ports 'appeared' to be dead, when they were just waiting for a 100MBs connection.

Cisco Network Assistant, unable to add a switch
I have a network running some 20 switches, two controllers and many AP's. All the devices that should be able to connect to cisco network assistant can successfully. However there is one switch that will show in neighbours but will give the message of “unable to connect to device” when I try and add it to the topology.
As far as I can see the config is identically to all other similar switches in the network. I can telnet from a switch (management VLAN) to the switch in question. However when I try to ping or telnet from the PC running network assistant (different subnet) I am unsuccessful. However I can ping/telnet to all other cisco device from this PC.
The switch is a WS-C3560-48TS and I have included the config for firstly the switch in question and another switch of the same model and config that works correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

endThe switch configurations look pretty straightforward and mostly correct.
I notice that the problem switch has "ip routing" global command. Why is that necessary? You are only using it as a L2 switch, yes? If you use "ip routing" and have no routing process (ospf, eigrp, etc.) running you would need to add a static default route (ip route 0.0.0.0 etc.) and not use the "ip default-gateway" command. Otherwise the switch itself (the SVI) does not know how to leave the management VLAN routing-wise since it is the only L3 interface defined.
(I might also add "ip http authentication local" on each and I'd definitely disable telnet in favor of ssh) -
Cisco Network Assistant 5.5 and WS-X4013+10GE
I have installed CNA 5.5 and it works fine with most of the devices, including catalyst 4500 series with different supervisors (WS-X4013+, WS-X4013+TS, WS-X45 SUP6-E).
It can also detect supervisor WS-X4013+10GE, but CNA failed to show this device in Front Panel View. Is there anything I have to do to make the devices with Supervisor WS-X4013+10GE to be shown in Front Panel View?
WS-X4013+10GE are in either 4503 or 4506 chassis, running IOS version 12.2(31)SGA or 12.2(40)SG.
Please give some hints, thanks.
Rgds,
SunnyI downloaded Cisco Network Assistant 5.5, everytime when I try to run
I get error message "Could not creat Java virtual Machine' any idea how
to solve this?
To overcome this problem, open the file C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\CiscoSMB\Cisco Network Assistant\startup\startup.properties (the default installation path), and modify this entry:
JVM_MAXIMUM_HEAP=1024m
Replace 1024m with a lower setting that does not exceed the available RAM. There is no way to foresee what value will work. Try 512m, and lower it further if necessary. You can use the dial peer tag range 2500 to 2999 out-of-band to define your own dial peers.

Cisco Network Assistant for multiple access
Hi All,
hopefully this is the right place to post this. We've been looking into Cisco Network Assistant for our "help desk" (all 3 of them) and I was wondering if it is possible to configure CNA for a shared environment.. With that I mean the application will run on a Windows Terminal Server and all 3 users should be able to access it. Currently I've only seen it running localy and each user has to create or import the setting from another user. This is fine until something changes in the enviorenment and that changes are only saved in the local users configuration.
any ideas if something like this is possible with CNA?
Thanks,
DanYou may have already figured out then where CNA stores it's localized files - in %userdir%/.networkassistant (hidden from view by default).
You could probably hack the system by manually copying (or scripting a copy) between the respective help desk users' directories but it would be an unsupported setup.
You'd also potentially face problems of revision synchronization in the event of multiple users making independent changes - whose is the "right one"? -
Cisco Network Assistant question
Hi
I am a new user of Cisco Network Assistant. I got it to display the network of switches in the topology view. However a couple of switches are not displayed as linked to another switch (i.e shown as seperate from the network). Could someone please let me know why this is happening and how to get the switches to display as linked to another switch.
ThanksHi Michel
Thanks for your reply.
I have the right to see the switches as I am the one who configured all of them from scratch and deployed them. All is working fine except that now I started to look at ways to manage them. I thought I enabled CDP on all of them but I will double check. Also I am not using ACS but planning to in the future.
Cheers

Cisco Network Assistant - Why "No IP Address"?
I've recently updated Cisco Network Assistant to the latest verison - 5.8 (9.1) but I'm seeing something I've never noticed before.
In the Topology view one of my 3750's displays "No IP Address" underneath it, but it does have an IP address set on Vlan245. Admittedly Vlan1 has "no ip address" set but this is the same setup as another 3750 in that community which *does* show the correct IP address!
If I right click the switch with the error and click "Properties" the correct IP address is shown (see below).
I don't know if this may have a bearing on the error but both the 3750's in the topology were previously stacked, though we purposely broke the stacking some time ago.
Also some other things:
I don't like having to give permissions in my "Program Files" to get the application working - bad practise!
I don't ike the Courier-style font in the Device Authentication dialog that pops up after selecting a community - it looks completely alien to the rest of the application
Hope someone can suggest something or fix CNA.
Thanks.

Can't create VLAN's with Cisco Network Assistant
Hello everyone
I have a problem with my newest Switch, a WS-C2960X-48TS-L
Normaly I can programm all my Switches with Cisco Network Assistant. But now I have a problem with creating VLAN's. I can create them, safe them but after a refresh, all the new VLAN's are gone!
I updated the CNA to the newest Build 6.0 and updated the Switch to 15.2(2)E, but nothing helps!
Over the CLI I can do everything, but this is not a option for me! To programm sometimes a switch CNA is perfect for me! If it works!!
Thanks
Tobiyes I can programm the vlan's over CLI. That's works. I have not tested this if its really works, but the VLAN's are programmed.
hmm I checked the STP / VTP settings with a second identical Switch, but there are no differents. Made a backup of one Switch and restore on the other One, but I'm still not able to create VLAN's.
however, I contacted my vendor today, he tell me that it shouldt be a problem to take back the switch.
Best regards

Cisco Network Assistant doesn't start correctly
Hi!
A bit of background:
We've been replacing our 'old' Catalyst 3550 boxes with 3750 Switches, and since the web-interface on these are 'a bit lacking' in functionality(to say the least), we figured that CNA(downloaded latest version) would be just the thing...
Except, when we try to start it, we get this message:
Read/write access problems:
Ingen tilgang
=======================================
Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\BOFH
C:\Programfiler\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant
=======================================
'Ingen adgang' is Norwegian for 'No access'.
Also, I've altered my profile name in the message(No need to give away login name, is there? :-)
Now, my PC is set up according to 'best practices' for a SECURE NETWORKED PC In an office environment.
In other words, my user doesn't have write access to any folder in the %Program Files% areas, and that's the way we like to keep it...
So, Who goofed up the software, and how do I get around it without compromising the security of my PC?That is NOT a solution.
The reason why a user shouldn't have write access to the \program files\ folder is that it contains EXECUTABLE BINARIES, which many virii likes to infect.
Moving the install to another folder and giving a user write access to that just moves the problem to another place.
What COULD help is a list of subfolders(which doesn't contain binaries or other easily-infected files) or files which the program needs to have write access to, or an updated version which stores its config data somewhere else... -

Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) Error: Connect
Best regards community,
Please I need your help, I installed Cisco Network Assistant 5.8 (9.1) for manage some catalyst switches as 2950, 2960, 2960S, 2960X, 3750X. I can manage all devices except WS-C2960X-24TS-LL model, I have following message from CNA: "Error: Connect Index: 26, Size:26". This device have same configuration for level 15 access as other devices with user name and password. the catalyst switch IOS version is 15.0(2)EX4
This problem is about either software or hardware? How can solve?
Thanks in advanceYou're welcome.
I know the product team monitor the Network Management Forum. If you post your question there, one of them may pick up on it.
The CNA support typically lags the new product release by about 4-6 months, sometimes longer depending on how well the hardware product release matches up with the network management product's latest release date. The 2960XR just started shipping in July 2013 so a good guess would be that CNA might support it in the next release (5.9?). That's just a guess though. -
Cisco Network Assistant MAC auth issue
I have few Autonomous Access Points all managed by the Cisco Network Assistant. Users have access to wireless only based on MAC authentication.
Every once in a while the wireless access to the Access-Point fails and the following error is showed in the Cisco Network Assistant.
ERROR: The MAC address filter 700 used for association access was not created by the web interface and cannot be displayed.
also
WARNING: Filter 700 was configured on interface Dot11radio 0.170 using CLI. It must be cleared via CLI to ensure proper operation of the web interface.
The Network Admin does not use CLI but this problem keeps coming. To fix this problem I had cleared the access-list 700 via CLI and created a new access-list 700 via Cisco Network Assistant. Adding all the MAC's each time the network goes down is a cumbersome process. Is there a solution for this?
Thanks in advance
error snapshot attached.I have some site admins that use CNA. I just upgraded their LAN to 3560v2 switches running 12.2(58)SE2 and had them upgrade their CNA software to CNA 5.7(6). They reported the same error.
I think you clearly indentified the problem. At one time the IOS command parser accepted both "show mac-address" and "show mac address". At some point IOS stopped accepting the older "show mac-address" format, and CNA is still issuing this command regardless of the IOS version it is trying to manage. -
Cisco Network Assistant access error
Dear all,
I've just installed Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) on my Windows 7 laptop but whenever I try to start it I get an error message as shown below:
Read/write access problems:
Access is denied
=======================================
Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
C:\Users\...........
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant
=======================================
My Windows is 64-bit.
Any ideas on how to sort out this will be appreciated.
Regards,
Davis M Onsakiai had the same problem and i wasn't willing to open the whole of the programs directory to what username cisco used when installing or when run, so i opt'ed to install in a root directory, make c:\cisco and install there, that way if there's a permissions error I can add what I wanted, but thats how i got mine to work. Install in a different directory, one that you can add read/write permissions to.

Cisco Network Assistant - Health Monitor Not Showing Bandwidth Utilization
Hello,
Ive setup a new network with 3x 2960 and 2x 3650 switches, trying to view the bandwidth utilization per switch in cisco network assistant in the health monitor unfortunatly it show 0%. I know there is alot of traffic passing through the switches, the other monitors are working correctly (temp, ram and cpu). Is there any special settings that are needed in the switch?
ThanksSrikanth Achanta,
Thanks for the help! Here is the output from putty.

Garage Band URL link looks awful in IWeb
I attached a URL link to my podcast in Garageband. It looks great in GB, but when I view it in iWeb it is colored cyan and the typeface switched to times roman. The URL link looks nothing like it did in Garageband. What could be the problem? Thanks f
