CISCO NEXUS 5020 Not Booting

I have a cisco nexus 5020 switch of 2 nos, but when i try to boot the device its result no image on the flash and it stuck in the boot mode. Is any possibility to boot the nexus from boot mode without having a image from flash.

Hi Michael,
If the unit is not showing anything at all when connecting screen/keyboards, there won't be much more investigation possible. Likely the HW has gone bad and you will have to replace it.

Marco

  • Highest supported Brocade DCX firmware version to be interoperable with Cisco Nexus 5020

A Cisco Nexus 5020 (FCoE) switch is connected to Brocade DCX-B switch.
5020 is at latest firmware level of 5.0.2.N2.1
Brocade is at firmware level of 6.2.1b
If we need to upgrade brocade firmware, what is the maximum revision we can go to? Is there some documentation available for interoperability between the code levels of the two hardwares?

  • Cisco DME 1100 not booting

    Hi There,
We have a Cisco DME 1100 that is not booting up.
It started by freezing once or twice at which point I rebooted it whch got it working but now the unit does not boot up at all. If I apply power and toggle the state the LCD screen comes on with info stating 'booting...' but just goes no where. If I connect a monitor to it, it does not display anything as well as it constantly makes a beeping tone...
Is there anything I can try to reset the unit or what this could mean?
The last time I got any screen image out of the unit it was displaying the following information:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
C:\Windows\System32\Config\System" - This can only be bad...
    Thank you,

  • Cisco nexus 6001 not a supported device on cisco prime infrastructure 2.1?

I have installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and Prime Infrastructure still doesn't seem to support the Nexus 6001 platform? Can someone tell me if Cisco Prime Infrastructure will ever support the Cisco Nexus 6001 platform or is there any plans to support it in any future device packs?

The Nexus 6001 isn't currently supported in PI 2.1. There's no workaround except to wait for a device or product update that adds support. Right now I know the 9000 series is on the 2.2 roadmap but I haven't seen any reference to the 6001 and PI.
Interestingly, Prime LMS does support both the 6001 and 6004. Reference.

  • Cisco 7960 is not booting with PoE port

    Hi,
I have Cisco 7960 ip phone, i have connected that in a PoE port, the phone doesn't boot, so what i use to do is, i use a power adaptor, then the ip phone bootz after the ip phone is booted completely, i remove the power adaptor, the ip phone functionz normally, this practice i am doing it when ever i switch OFF & switch ON the ip phone. I also tried connecting to the existing working IP phonez which doesn't even require a power adaptor for booting. those phones works perfectly, i tired replacing with this ip phone on that, the problem is same.

Actually the reason is that the 7960 is a pre-standard PoE phone, so called cisco PoE.
As fa as I'm aware, the 3com switch doesn't supports cisco PoE.

  • Cisco Nexus v1000 not connecting to VMWare vCenter

I am trying to deploy Nexus 1000v, but there is a problem - no connection with vCenter. Pings are ok, all ip addresses and port numbers are valid. Console displays following error:
    switch(config)#svs connection vc
remote ip address 10.10.10.200 port 5480

    Thank you.

You should use port 80 instead of 5480 in your svs connection string.  Port 5480 is the default port for the management of the vCSA.

  • ErrorDisabled status on a Cisco Nexus 5020 NX-OS 5.0(2)N2(1)

Any ideas how to NOT USE errdisable or allow the FCoE switch to put a port / interface / VFC  into an error disabled state?
I do not see any command(s) to NOT use this feature.

You can disable errordisable condition only for certain causes. Here are the options.
F340.24.10-5548-1(config)# no errdisable detect cause ?
all           Enable error detection on all cases
inline-power  Enable error disable detection for POE
link-flap     Enable error disable detection on linkstate-flapping
loopback      Enable error disable detection on loopback
But you can enable recovery if needed
    F340.24.10-5548-1(config)# errdisable recovery cause ?
all                Enable timer to recover from all causes
bpduguard          Enable timer to recover from BPDU Guard error disable state
failed-port-state  Enable timer to recover from stp set port state failure
inline-power       Enable timer to recover from POE disabled state
link-flap          Enable timer to recover from linkstate flapping
pause-rate-limit   Enable timer to recover from pause rate limit error disabled state
udld               Enable timer to recover from udld error disabled state
    F340.24.10-5548-1(config)#
Any particular condition you are after?

  • Cisco Nexus 5596 does not boots up after NX-OS upgrade 5.1.3.N1.1 to 6.0.2.N2.5 [CSCun66310]

    Hello Friends,
Just want to save your precious time & effort, while doing Nexus 5596 upgrades so wanted to share some useful info which you can have a look prior to your upgrades of Cisco Nexus 5596 device.
I recently ran into trouble when upgarding one of datacenter switch Nexus 5596 does not boots up and after investigation from Cisco TAC it comes out to be Bug documented below.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCun66310/?reffering_site=dumpcr
My Upgrade path of device was : 5.1(3)N1(1)  to  6.0(2)N2(5).
Since this upgarde involves upgrade of Bios and Power sequensor, I was having some doubts to get this succesfully upgraded,  But there was more twist involved in this upgrade which I came to know after contacting Cisco TAC for my died Nexus 5596 device and got info that if you have below impacted version in your Nexus 5596 device and you are planning to do Upgrade, then you migh RUN into this serious BUG aftre which device won't come up at all and only Option left is to replace with RMA device.
PID                            Impacted                   Hardware versions      Updated Versions
    UCS-FI-6296UP                                            1.0                                       1.1
    N5K-C5596UP                                              1.0                                        1.1
    N5K-C5596T                                                 1.1                                         1.2
You can check hardware version using below command from your device.
    5596# show sprom sup | inc H/W
    H/W Version     : 1.1
So please be carefull when planning your Nexus 5596 upgrade and verify above things as this Bug is not present anywhere in Upgrade docuemntations unfortunately.
Hope this will help and save someone's precious Time.

Today "upgraded" our switch (N5k-C5596UP) to from 5.1(2)N1 to 7.0(5) and after reboot no life from the switch either. Even no console response. show sprom sup | inc H/W shows 1:0.
Only thing we could do is RMA the switch. So what must I do with these switches? Have still to do 3 of them.

#3- If the TFTP is rerun the entire cycle starts again.

The IPS 4255 sensor appliance has only a single 512 MB internal CompactFlash module for storage by-default, so this part of the output you posted is interesting:
hda: TOQHIBA THLCD512MBA, CFA DISK drive
hdb: QalDisi QDAF@-510, ATA DISK drive
    ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
    hda: attached ide-disk driver.
    hda: task_no_data_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
    hda: task_no_data_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
    hda: 484848 sectors (248 MB) w/2KiB Cache, CHS=481/16/63
    hdb: attached ide-disk driver.
    hdb: task_no_data_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
    hdb: task_no_data_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
    hdb: 484848 sectors (248 MB) w/1KiB Cache, CHS=481/16/63
As it appears that two (2) 256 MB ("248 MB") storage devices are being detected (despite the model of the first even containing "512MB" in its name).
I'd recommend double-checking that there is nothing installed in the "External compact flash device" slot located on the back of the appliance. See here for reference: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/7.0/installation/guide/hw_installing_4240_4255.html#wp2726
If there is a CompactFlash module installed there, eject and remove it, then power-cycle the appliance and attempt the re-image ("recovery") process once more. If the boot output still contains the same errors for hda and hdb, then it is probably a failing/failed CompactFlash module, so an RMA will likely be necessary to resolve.

  • Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.

Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.
    The following happens.
    1. Speaker light lit (Green)
    2. Phone displays a firmware upgrade page (see attachment) for a few minutes. (Doesn't seems to be upgrading, but it "saids" upgrading)
    3. Saw Cisco logo with a Java Powered page.
    4. The whole thing loops again and again...
I think the reason why the phone isn't booting up is because the phone needs to know where to find the configuration/firmware files from a tftp server. I do have a TFTP server, but normally I need to go in settings to change the alternative tftp server, but the thing is that now I can't even press the settings button...
    Please help.

How many phones were reset and upgrading at one time? What is the setting of the TFTP Maximum Serving Count (Advanced TFTP Service Parm) on each of the TFTP servers?
Sounds like too many devices trying to use TFTP at once.

  • Cisco 2811 not booting

    Hi,
A client has 2x2811 acting as Voice Gateway and backup Voice Gateway and both, after some undisclosed circumstances, are not booting.
After some troubleshooting a faulty memory DIMM was detected on the primary Voice Gateway. Still, DIMM replaced, it continued failing to boot. Tried the other router and the symptom was the same:

I tried changing the boot sequence, uploading a new version via tftpdnld,15.1(4)M8 (verifying that the checksum on the file was the same as on Cisco CCO), formatting the flash. All failed.
As of now, I have no more solutions to turn on to.
Has anyone faced a similar problem able to provide some help?
    TIA,
    Pedro Miguel Marques

I strongly recommend you get the chassis replaced.  If you don't have a valid maintenance contract, don't despair, you still got some home.  Contact your nearest Cisco AM/SE and show them the document above.  Initially, they might feign ignorance but they are to honor all complaints.

  • Cisco Nexus and 10GbE Autonegotiation not supported?

    Hi,
I'm currently reading through the Interfaces Config Guide for Nexus 5600 NX-OS 7.x and have found the following statement:
Autonegotiation configuration is not applicable on 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports. When autonegotiation is
configured on a 10-Gigabit port the following error message is displayed:
ERROR: Ethernet1/40: Configuration does not match the port capability
Is it true that autonegotiation is not supported for 10GbE Interfaces on Cisco Nexus? I thought autonegotation was supported by 10GbE?! So would it be best practice so set a fixed speed on all Interfaces (servers, other switches) connected to the 10GbE ports on the Nexus switches?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Bilal,
thanks. Yes, I know that 10GbE can run over both media types, the problem here is that the documentation starts with stating that auto negotiation is not supported for 10GbE in beneral but later references only 10-GBASE-T, so I was not sure what is true - whether auto-negotiation only not works with copper or with all ports.
But I guess then it is true for all 10GbE ports, no matter what media-type. It's somewhat stange however, since I have read that auto-negotiation is generally supported for 10GbE (according to Wikipedia, at least). Maybe only Cisco doesn't supported auto-negotiation for 10GbE.
    Thank you again,
    Michael
