Cisco Nexus 5548UP and FI6248UP compatibility with FC SFP
Cisco Nexus 5548UP and FI 6248UP comes with Unified Ports. What are the SFP types this port can take? 1Gig, 10Gig and 2/4/8FC. Could you please clarify?
Thanks,
Cheriyan

Interoperability between Cisco Nexus 5548UP and IBM FC3171
Dear Techies,
We have a Cisco Nexus Switch 5548UP already in our environment with DS-SFP-FC8G-SW installed. We are planning to procure IBM Pure Flex Chassis without FC Switch, since we already have Nexus that can provide this facility. But in order to connect IBM Flex with Cisco Nexus we are planning to use IBM FC3171 Switch with IBM 44X1964 Transceivers which will act as a Mediator/Pass Through Switch for connecting IBM and Cisco.
If any expert knows OR have used this scenario, please let me know since I am interested to know if it will work in this scenario or not.
Regards,
Farhan.Dear prkrishn
I am working on the Data Center Solution between two Data Center, details underneath
DC 1 Site
1. 2 x DC Core Switch (Nexus 7009) - will be used for Servers, Application, IBM V7000, Database, etc.
2. 2 x Network Core Switch (Cisco 6509) - Handle Campus and Inter Building connection.
3. IBM V7000 (SAN)
DC 2 Site
1. 2 x DC Core Switch (Nexus 7009) - will be used for Servers, Application, IBM V7000, Database, etc.
2. 2 x Network Core Switch (Cisco 6509) - Handle Campus and Inter Building connection.
3. IBM V7000 (SAN)
With the above mention setup, can I configure FCIP between DC1 & DC2 using Nexus 7009? or I need FCIP capable Switch such as IBM SAN Switch (SAN06-BR), I was wondering if I can configure FCIP on Nexus 7009 DC Switch.
Hoping for your kind response at earliest.

Cisco Nexus 5548UP to Brocade SAN Connectivity
Hi,
I have a Server-SAN-Storage setup as shown in the attachment/below. There are new Cisco UCS rack mount servers with VIC 1225 and Virtual servers on VMware Esxi hypevisor connected to a new Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch in IP+FCoE mode. The new 5548 switch then connects to an existing production SAN of Brocade 48000 Director SAN switch which connects to storage in production environment.
I need to know the best way to connect the 5548 switch to the Brocade SAN switch without disrupting the existing Production SAN environment i.e. Brocade SAN switch configurations & setup e.g. Fabric Principal switch. priority etc.
Would configuring the 5548 switch in NPV mode be best practice?See Figure 6-2 Converged Multi-hop FCoE Network Design Using FCoE NPV
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/fcoe/513_n1_1/ops_fcoe/ops_fcoe_npv.html
You have to use NPV on N5k, there is no FC interop support on N5k, to connect to Brocade. -
Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ?
Hi all, I have a question about Cisco Nexus 5548UP. Is Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ? Because in CCW, i can't configure the SFP-10G-LRM. There is only SFP-10G-LR, SR, and the others, but there's no LRM. Pelase help me to answer this question. Thanks a lot
The LRM is s special case transceiver which supports 10 Gbps over older FDDI grade multimode fiber when used with a mode conditioning patch cord. It is not supported on the Nexus 5548UP.
The SFP-10G-LR is used with single mode fiber for spans up to 10 km in length. It is supported on the 5548UP (and most every platform of Cisco's that takes SFPs).
Please see the product data sheet here. -
Cisco Nexus 5548UP connecting to HP P4330 StoreVirtual over iScsi
Hi,
I need some advice when it comes to how to setup a port-channel between Nexus 5548UP and a HP StoreVirtual 4330 device. The idea is to use 2 10 GB ports in a port-channel group and this far I've this on the port-channel group;
interface port-channel1002
priority-flow-control mode off
switchport access vlan 400
load-interval counter 2 30
load-interval counter 3 300
What about priority-flow-control, any needs to change anything here? Any other things that needs to be considered when using iScsi?
Much appreciated!
Tony LewisHi Tony,
You do not have to worry about PFC. Priority-Flow-Control is something which is related to FCOE or DCBX protocol. With iSCSI as this is a TCP traffic, you have to make sure that you have a proper QOS for the IP Subnet or VLAN that has your iSCSI hosts transmitting the data. As iSCSI rides over TCP this is the major issue that I have seen related to the valid QOS config for the traffic. There is not best practice for it but you have make sure that you added it to a class other than BE or Scavanger class.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Hi
I need a switch that supports FC, FCoE and iSCSI traffic. The switch that has been suggested to us is Cisco Nexus 5548UP.
I have the following queries regarding this switch:
1) At our end, I have AMS 2100 Hitachi Storage which has iSCSI & FC Ports. I also have Qlogic CNA card at the server end which supports both ISCSI & FCOE. For FCoE protocol based traffic, the storage to switch connection will have to be FC and the switch to server connection will be FCoE. Can you please confirm whether, if this will be possible through the proposed Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch?
2) The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
3) We are going to use -SFP-FC4G-SW & SFP-10G-SR SFP for fiber connectivity. Can you please let us know the what these SFP are used for and whether they assist in FC and FCoE traffic forwarding?
4) We are also going to use Nexus 5500 Storage License, 8 Ports. Does this indicate that only 8 ports of the switch can be connected to the storage? Among these ports, can we configure 4 ports for FC and 4 ports for iSCSI (keeping in mind that our storage has both FC and iSCSI ports)?
5) Is there any License required for enable FC, FCoE and iSCSI protocols?
An early resolution of these queries will enable us to make a decision regarding the switch.
Thanks
Bhanudas MaliThe specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
The "UP" in the Nexus 5548 stands for Universal Port. This means that each port can support FC, FCoE and Ethernet. So, a 5548 has 32 ports of SFP/SFP+. Each port can support and push 10 Gbps at a 1:1 oversubscription rate.
There is an optional 16-port SFP/SFP+ module, N55-M16UP, which will add an additional 16 Universal Ports.
Because they are "universal" they can support 1/10 Gbps FCoE and Ethernet as well as 1, 2, 4 and 8 Gbps FC. -

Thanks.I had the same question, so I opened a TAC case to find the right software version. I was told that the software listed as available on the bug report were custom NX-OS builds and that there are no patched versions available for the 5548p. The support engineer also said that the Nexus 5k upgrades were not expected until November or December. The best advice I could get was to subscribe to the bug report and wait to be notified of an available upgrade.

i have a serious (and bizarre!) issue with my novation impulse (Although i've tried it with two other keyboards and i still have the same problem) and its compatibility with mainstage 3.
the problem is best explained on the following one - page thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3951518?start=0&tstart=0
(Clearly i'm not alone in this problem, although i think i figured out what's going wrong a little more than he did...read on!)
his solution, to put mainstage in jump mode, is very unsatisfactory to me, as it bounces all of a sudden to drastically different settings.
basically, my analysis is that my controller is NOT receiving MIDI date from mainstage. in other words, mainstage knows what my controller is doing, but my controller doens't know what mainstage is doing.
let's say i turn the knob all the way to the right ... 127...and the virtual fader goes to the right like it's supposed to.
now...next...let's say i change to a different patch, where that same VIRTUAL fader is not at the max clockwise position..maybe it's only at 1pm. now when i turn the physical knob to the RIGHT, the midi data is still at 127 on the controller! it didn't "reset" to sync up with the new level (say 80 or so) setting on the new patch. so i can't increase that new setting of 80 by continuing to turn the knob to the right. i have to turn it all the way to zero,...and then continue PAST zero until the controller thinks that IT is at 0...at that point the controller and mainstage are in agreement, and things work fine....so bascially, the keyboard thinks the level is at max...but mainstage thinks the level is at 1pm.
i am using Logic 9, and i have a macbook pro 2.9 Ghz I7 with 8 gigs of memory and OS X 10.8.4Hi Josh,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us here a Novation for technical support. Lets continue to correspond via email so we can get your issue resolved.

Cisco Nexus 5596 and Brocade 5300 compatibility
Hi
We have designed the SAN network with Brocade5300 connected to Nexus5596. we want to know about the campatibility of these two switches.
I can't find any compatibility matrix with this detail.
i would appreciate it if you let me know about your experience.
Thank youAmir,
Check this.

I am not sure how recent it is and when this testing was done. I would suggest you to run " Gateway mode" AKA NPIV mode for Cisco and test this with Brocade 5300. It should work fine.
Hope this helps.

Cisco Nexus 5548UP upgrade path
Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade Nexus 5548UP (no L3 services) from 5.2(1)N1(6) to 7.0(5)N1(1). Is this upgrade path vaild? or is there any intermediate version; also advise if ISSU is possible.
Regards,
Navin RKHi,
Yes you can upgrade directly from 5.2(1)N1(6) to 7.0(5)N1(1). ISSU is possible, provided you meet the requirements. You can copy the kickstart and system image to bootflash, then run the "show install all impact" command to see whether or not ISSU will be possible with your configuration.
Here is a document supporting the statements above: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/upgrade/705_N1_1/n5500_upgrade_downgrade_700.html#pgfId-640981 -

Cisco Nexus 5548UP - Enhanced vPC
Hello,
We will be deploying a new Cisco Nexus 5K environment with 2248 FEX's.
The firewall in the environment (non-Cisco), only supports static Port-channels - i.e "ON" configuration and not LACP.
For redundancy we will be patching it into the environment in a topology where VLAN's are trunked and connected to two FEX modules as on page 2 of this document:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/mkt_ops_guides/513_n1_1/n5k_enhanced_vpc.pdf
Every example I've seen online uses LACP instead of a static Port-channel. My questions are:
Will this cause any issues in the event of port failure?
Is this best practice?
Are there any "gotchas" or caveats with this design?
Many thanks in advance.
JacobI always like to use LACP where and when I can. Some devices, like your firewall and vmware do not support LACP. As long as both devices are configured correctly and using mode-on, there should be no issues with this. I do not like mode-on for this reason, as it does not negotiate anything before bringing up the port-channel. Therefore just confirm it is configured as mode-on on both sides and you should be fine. This should not cause any disruption if one link fails, but I would test the configuration before putting this into production.

Hello,
I am trying to setup LACP on the Nexus 5548UP 10 Gig switch on Port-channel 3. However, when I setup LACP, eth ports 7 and 8 (on Port-channel 3) go into either inactive or down state (as below). The 10 gig ports (7 and 8) are connected to a server which has LACP capability.

It would be great if anyone can help me with getting LACP up and running on the 10 Gig Nexus 5548UP. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks! Thanks for your response. I do have vlan10 created and it is active. Thanks for correcting individual state instead of inactive.
I ran a few lacp commands below including "show lacp counters"

In the below command, it still says, interfaces 7 and 8 are down? What does that mean? An issue with the host? Is there anyway to test the nexus switch to check if it is doing its part and working correctly?
