Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ?

Hi all, I have a question about Cisco Nexus 5548UP. Is Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ? Because in CCW, i can't configure the SFP-10G-LRM. There is only SFP-10G-LR, SR, and the others, but there's no LRM. Pelase help me to answer this question. Thanks a lot

The LRM is s special case transceiver which supports 10 Gbps over older FDDI grade multimode fiber when used with a mode conditioning patch cord. It is not supported on the Nexus 5548UP.
The SFP-10G-LR is used with single mode fiber for spans up to 10 km in length. It is supported on the 5548UP (and most every platform of Cisco's that takes SFPs).

  • 3750 and Nexus 5548UP Support

I am working on a project that was handed down and several different engineers got their hands on.  The project is (or should have been) a simple data storage/center.  Fixing all the design problems has left me with very little time to research the security folks issues and I need help.
We are using Cisco Nexus 5548UP for our data center core and distribution/routing to encryptors connecting our remote sites which use Cisco 3750X series switches.  The Nexus is running NOS 5.2(1)N1(4) and the 3750s use 12.2(55) IP base.
    These are our particular issues:
    1)  For management and monitoring, what would be a good product to use to support this?  If Cisco Prime Infrastructure, what ports would need to be allowed/opened through firewalls/ACLs (SNMP, syslog, etc)?
    2)  For switch login, the network security folks are reluctant to use TACACS and want to push for LDAP instead.  Using Active Directory, is there any way to get the Cisco Nexus 5548UP and Cisco 3750Xs talking to Active Directory?  I've found both 'yes' and 'no' answers online and am not sure.  Do I need to use a different NOS and/or IOS?  Are there specific directions somewhere?  Or is it not possible?
    3)  Without TACACS, is there any way to implement command logging to a syslog server on the Nexus?  On the 3750s, I make the following changes and all commands are relayed to our syslog server:
    Enable
    Configure terminal
    Archive
    Log config
    Logging enable
    Logging size 500
    Hidekeys
    Notify syslog
    End
Is there anything similar for the Nexus?
    4)  In conjunction with #3, we need to be able to log each login attempt (success and failure) to a syslog server on the Nexus.  On the 3750, using the "login on-[failure/success] log", it is can setup easy enough.  On the Nexus, I haven't been able to find anything similar.  I can't find any instructions on setting this up on the Nexus, though.
    5)  What IOS/NOS do we need to use to be able to lock out users after 3 failed logins (again, without using TACACS)?
If you need more information, please ask.
    V/R,
    Chris

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP

    Hi
I need a switch that supports FC, FCoE and iSCSI traffic. The switch that has been suggested to us is Cisco Nexus 5548UP.
I have the following queries regarding this switch:
    1)       At our end, I have AMS 2100 Hitachi Storage which has iSCSI & FC Ports. I also have Qlogic CNA card at the server end which supports both ISCSI & FCOE. For FCoE protocol based traffic, the storage to switch connection will have to be FC and the switch to server connection will be FCoE. Can you please confirm whether, if this will be possible through the proposed Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch?
    2)       The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
    3)       We are going to use  -SFP-FC4G-SW & SFP-10G-SR SFP for fiber connectivity. Can you please let us know the what these SFP are used for and whether they assist in FC and FCoE traffic forwarding?
    4)       We are also going to use Nexus 5500 Storage License, 8 Ports. Does this indicate that only 8 ports of the switch can be connected to the storage? Among these ports, can we configure 4 ports for FC and 4 ports for iSCSI (keeping in mind that our storage has both FC and iSCSI ports)?
    5)       Is there any License required for enable FC, FCoE and iSCSI protocols?
An early resolution of these queries will enable us to make a decision regarding the switch.
    Thanks
    Bhanudas Mali

The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
The "UP" in the Nexus 5548 stands for Universal Port.  This means that each port can support FC, FCoE and Ethernet.  So, a 5548 has 32 ports of SFP/SFP+.  Each port can support and push 10 Gbps at a 1:1 oversubscription rate.
There is an optional 16-port SFP/SFP+ module, N55-M16UP, which will add an additional 16 Universal Ports.
Because they are "universal" they can support 1/10 Gbps FCoE and Ethernet as well as 1, 2, 4 and 8 Gbps FC.

  • SFP-10G-LRM compatible?

I want to perform upgrades part by part and would like to know if I
Can I connect a SFP-10G-LRM to a GLC-LH-SM 1gb interface over OM1 fiber atleast until I upgrade the core side of the network and the under ground fiber?

Unfortunately, optical transceiver modules do not auto negotiate for speed.  Therefore, you cannot connect a 10Gbps interface to a 1Gbps interface.  You need to upgrade both ends before the circuit can be completed.
If you need equipment to support the intermediate step in the upgrade cycle, you might look at purchasing Cisco Refurbished Products.

The SFP+ data sheet does indicate support for OM3 & OM4 fibers (no launch cable required).  220 meters looks to be the link length spec.

  • SFP-10G-LRM and Intel E10GSFPLR Compatibility

    Hello,
I wonder if someone can help me with a seemingly simple but elusive question.  I'm looking to make a purchase of several SFP-10G-LRM modules to support 10Gb communications over our OS2 fibre infrastructure.  All runs are less than 300m so this is cost effective compared to using SFP-10G-LR.
On the other end of the fibre will be some servers using Intel E10GSFPLR (10Gb 1310nm) optics.
My question is this - are these optics compatible for the situation I've described?  I've done some searching and can't find any definite information either way, despite these being popular choices (I guess).
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I have tested this issue on another 5548UP with L3 running the same NX-OS version and get the same problem. I suspect a problem with the software since that doesn't happen in NX-OS 5.2. The one I am using is

  • SFP-10G-LRM interoperability with SFP-10G-LR

I previously included this in a more complicated query (“Interoperable ASR1000 XFP for SFP-10G-LRM ?”) that didn’t generate any responses, so here is the revised question:
Will a SFP-10G-LRM interoperate with a SFP-10G-LR if I connect using single mode fiber?
(Fiber length would not exceed 100 meters.)
Power and wavelength specifications for the two SFP+ modules seem to indicate that they would work together:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-455693.html
I’m just concerned that there could be some protocol differences. Otherwise I’m not sure why there would be two different standards, i.e –LR and –LRM.
I checked the "definitive source for everything" and that didn’t clarify LR/LRM interoperability either:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10-gigabit_Ethernet
    Thanks.
    Phil

AFAIK they should interoperate over SM fiber distances in the range you noted. Protocol-wise the encoding is definitely interoperable. The concern is generally receiving light at optical power levels the receiver can translate into electrical signals faithfully (and of course transmitting at levels adequate for the distant end to do the same).

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP to Brocade SAN Connectivity

    Hi,
I have a Server-SAN-Storage setup as shown in the attachment/below. There are new Cisco UCS rack mount servers with VIC 1225 and Virtual servers on VMware Esxi hypevisor connected to a new Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch in IP+FCoE mode. The new 5548 switch then connects to an existing production SAN of Brocade 48000 Director SAN switch which connects to storage in production environment.
I need to know the best way to connect the 5548 switch to the Brocade SAN switch without disrupting the existing Production SAN environment i.e. Brocade SAN switch configurations & setup e.g. Fabric Principal switch. priority etc.
Would configuring the 5548 switch in NPV mode be best practice?

See Figure 6-2 Converged Multi-hop FCoE Network Design Using FCoE NPV
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/fcoe/513_n1_1/ops_fcoe/ops_fcoe_npv.html
You have to use NPV on N5k, there is no FC interop support on N5k, to connect to Brocade.

I had the same question, so I opened a TAC case to find the right software version. I was told that the software listed as available on the bug report were custom NX-OS builds and that there are no patched versions available  for the 5548p. The support engineer also said that the Nexus 5k upgrades were not expected until November or December. The best advice I could get was to subscribe to the bug report and wait to be notified of an available upgrade.

  • Interoperable ASR1000 XFP for SFP-10G-LRM ?

    I have a 4507R+E switch with SFP-10G-LRM (in WS-X45-SUP7-E) that I want to connect to an ASR1006 with SPA-1X10GE-L-V2.
What XFP can I use to implement my required 10G uplink?
I'm looking at XFP-10GLR-OC192SR [with signle mode fiber], but I don't know if that is interoperable with SFP-10G-LRM.
I suspect the XFP-10GLR-OC192SR would work with a SFP-10G-LR but I have already invested in the SFP-10G-LRM.
As an aside, will my SFP-10G-LRM interoperate with a SFP-10G-LR if I connect using single mode fiber?

  • Sfp-10g-lrm dropping link

I have 2 switches WS-c2960s-24PD-L one of the SFP ports on both are connected to other switches running the 10g-LRM  SFP modules. The two 2960 in question are connected by 1000BaseSX SFP modules. When i try to replace the !gigs with the 10gigs (on both ends) the config is the same on both ends. when i swap out the sfp the link will come up for a few mins then drop. i can do a shut/ noshut on the interface and it will comeback then go down again. Can any one give me some idias to try This link is working fine with the 1Gig SFP.

What is the distance of the fibre? If the original was running on GLC-SX-MM then you should've replaced them with SFP-10G-SR and not LRM.

  • Interoperability between Cisco Nexus 5548UP and IBM FC3171

    Dear Techies,
We have a Cisco Nexus Switch 5548UP already in our environment with DS-SFP-FC8G-SW installed. We are planning to procure IBM Pure Flex Chassis without FC Switch, since we already have Nexus that can provide this facility. But in order to connect IBM Flex with Cisco Nexus we are planning to use IBM FC3171 Switch with IBM 44X1964 Transceivers which will act as a Mediator/Pass Through Switch for connecting IBM and Cisco.
If any expert knows OR have used this scenario, please let me know since I am interested to know if it will work in this scenario or not.
