Cisco ONS 15454 DWDM CTP

Does anyone know where you can download a copy of Cisco Transport Planner?  I need to open a project file to review the design but cannot find the software available for download anywhere.  Any help would be appreciated.

it can download from cisco internal website only,  and you must request the license for CTP, maybe you need contact AM or SE for this account

  • Cisco ONS 15454 SONET MSPP

I am doing a school research project in which I am setting up an OC-192 ring for a company (contract work through AT&T). I have chosen to use the Cisco ONS 15454 SONET MSPP as my platform. The company currently has locations in Chicago and Philadelphia and connects them through an OC-12C ATM connection and they are looking to add 2 gigabit ethernet connections.
My question is what cards and parts will I need for the Cisco ONS 15454 SONET MSPP, and how much will everything cost? I have been searching the internet for components and prices and I have found it extremely difficult to find any information. Any help or tips anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Nick,
You can find the HW specifications for various ethernet cards for the 15454 at the following location.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_1/15454/sdh/reference/guide/454e91_ethernetcards.htmlhttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_1/15454/sdh/reference/guide/454e91_refer.html
To make sense of it all, you need to contact a Cisco sales/account represetative to help you analyze your needs, design your network and put together a price list for the appropriate cards.
If you are interested, I can get someone from the sales/account team to contact you.   Please contact me directly with your contact information and geographic location so I can find the appropriate sales/account to help you.  Please do not post your personal information directly to the forum.

  • Cisco ONS 15454 SDH

    Hi,
i have 3 sites connecting together with SDH 15454 site A-B with STM-1 and from site B-C STM-16,i want to Aggregated hand-off E1's from Site A-C so site B will be trasparet site for this link.
to be source of link on site A and Drop on site C.
    any help to achive this.
there is already cricte between site B-C.

You will need to verify that the cross-connect card in the ONS 15454 (sites B & C) have VC-12 grooming capabilities (XC-VXL and CX-VXC will support VC-12 grooming).
The ONS is designed to groom lower rate signals to higher rate speed lines. Thus, you should be able to aggregate the E1s from the ISPs STM1 with the E1s from Site B and drop them at Site C.
You will need to add an STM1 card(s) to Site B. Your ISP will need to provide the mapping structure of the STM1, so you can understand where the VC-12s, which contain the E1s, are located in the payload. You will then create circuits to map each E1 (the incoming VC-12s within VC3/VC4) from you ISPs STM1 at Site B, to the appropriate VC-12 on the outgoing STM16 line heading toward Site C. At Site C, you will need to map the VC-12s on the STM16 line to the appropriate port on an E1 line card.
I hope this helps. Otherwise, you will need to have someone locally assist you in the explanation.

  • ONS 15454 DWDM

    Hello,
I am still pretty new to the ONS product line, but have a reasonable understanding of the DWDM technology. I am looking to run two point to point dark fiber links between two colos within about 3KM of one another. Ideally, I would like to support 32 channels of 10G as we are a service provider and frequently carry multiple customer GE links between the sites. I am still a bit confused as to what Cisco offers for the ONS line that is capable of this.

    Keith,
There are a few options you could use in this situation. Below are a couple solutions but not including all.
Since your distance is short(only 3km) you should not need a full MSTP 15454 shelf with amplifiers. Depending on your application of the 10G circuits you may need a 15454 to hold Transponder cards that would change the wavelength to a DWDM wave. It could also be possible for you buy wavelength specific SFPs/XFP's for your equipment which could bypass having the 15454 shelf all together.
As far as the DWDM system between the sites you could use a MD-40-ODD or MD-40-EVEN depending on what wavelengths you plan on using. This will give you 40 channels. See link(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/spares/15216/guide/15216_Patch_Panel.html)
Keep in mind there will be a total max 12db(6db per side max) insertion loss when using the MD-40's so make sure the SFPs/XFPs have the correct Tx/Rx optical specifications.
Also you can reference a GBIC/SFP/XFP doc for part numbers, optical and hardware specs, etc..

Hope this information can get you started in the right direction.

  • Cisco ONS 15454 E3-12 & E3/DS3 loopback testing

I was wondering if it was possible to daisy chain all the ports (with a hard loop on the last port) on the FMEC E3/DS3 and create circuits between the looped ports in order to perform BER testing on all the E3 ports.
I set that up and connected my test set, but when start sending a signal I end up getting a LOF alarm.
Does anyone have any ideas on what my problem may be and how I would go about performing my test for all the E3 ports?

based on your test set-up.. did you create circuits between all the ports and then use a physical loop (fiber connections between the ports) on all the ports?
I have it set up with circuits on the backplane and physical loops in the following manner:
    test set -> port 1
    port 1-> port 2 (VC3 circuit)
port 2-> port 3 (physical loop)
    port 3-> port 4 (VC3 circuit)
port 4-> port 5 (physical loop)
    port 5-> port 6 (VC3 circuit)
    port 12 -> port 12 (physical loop)
When i have this set up and traffic running from my test set , i keep getting LOF alarms on my test set.
However for some reason it works for only 2 ports... anything past 2 ports seems to be unstable and i get alarms..
    Any ideas?

  • 10G Bigger Pipe on ONS 15454

I have two STM4 SDH capacities and one STM16 SDH spanning two cities over different service providers. See Attachment, I have two Cisco ONS 15454 in two cities, one of the ONS is connected to a GSR router serving as core router while the second ONS is connected to a 7609-S serving as MPLS-PE router, their is DOT1q tagging transparently carried over the SDH circuits between the two routers. I want to make these capacities one big Ethernet pipe (10G) at both ends, this fat pipe should be able to carry multiple VLANs between the attached routers at both ends. Is this achievable? if yes what kind of Ethernet cards do I require on ONS and the routers? Any supporting document will be highly appreciated.

"but I am not sure if Cisco produce a 10G ethernet cards for ONS 15454?"
cisco also have 10G Ethernet card but it can go over DWDM box not STM 16 & STM 4.
I am not sure what ECi and Huwai are offering but i am sure of one thing that even if they give you 10G Ethernet card but you CANNOT map that single Ethernet card to your 3 STM interfaces (1 STM 16 & 2 STM 4). As far as i know you can map one ethernet port to one SDH port (either 1 STM 16 or 1 STM 4).
Before believing ECI & Huwaei discuss that solution with some people, as I know one thing there can be lot of strings later on.
They say totally different thing before but once you buy that then you get to know the real features. You will have the feature but with lot of if & but.
What you can do is if that makes sense in your case, take 10 1Gig (Total 10G) ethernet card then you can map 3 ethernet ports to 3 STM interfaces you have.
Whats is the max speed your provider can give you? If they give you 10G SDH then see if you can get 10G POS card for your routers.
You can think of DWDM solution, this way you can take 10G direct over a wavelngth and lot many later. What is the distance between your 2 ONS?

  • ONS 15454 Training

I am looking for cbt or knowlegeNet like traning video for the ONS 15454? Is such available? I am happy to pay :)
    Francisco.

Take a look at the offerings listed at http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le31/ase/offerings/optical/index.html
These courses are offered by partners - Global Knowledge seems to be doing most of the ONS classes. According to a search I did just now, "Cisco ONS 15454 Turn Up, Test, Provisioning, and Operation Training (OCTPO) v7.0" is being offered at several locations in the USA and Canada this year.
Other than the classroom-based training, I'm afraid your alternative is to slog through the manuals in conjunction with hands-on experience as the only alternative. Personally, I'd not recommend that path unless you have an experienced mentor to guide you along. There're a good number of complexities that are difficult to discern without guidance.
Hope this helps. Please rate helpful posts.

  • Ethernet over OC-3 between a E100T-12 (ONS 15454) and a remote device

What CISCO device will accept an OC-3 (non-ATM) interface and establish an Ethernet connection with a E100T-12 card in a CISCO ONS 15454?

You could map an Ethernet circuit from an ONS 15327 over an OC3 and terminate it on E100T-12 on the 15454. Hope that helps.

  • Mixing SONET/DWDM Cards in a ONS 15454

    All,
To my understanding, there are some limitations to mixing SONET line cards with DWDM line cards in the same ONS 15454 chassis. I believe one of the limitations had to do with the line card placement versus a OSC-M and OSC. I can't remember the draw backs of doing the above, but there was some negative.
Are there any more draw backs, limitaitons or gotchas?
Also, generally, the optical engineers I spoke to recommended never mixing the cards and keeping them in seperate chassis.

    Hello Jason,
Mixing SONET/SDH and DWDM functions in the same chassis is a supported configuration on the ONS 15454 platform.
As was stated in the other posts, you would have to install the SONET/SDH crossconnect cards in the chassis in order to have the HO/LO functionality.
You are right, that there is an impact on the card placement in the chassis, however you can force the planning tool (Cisco TransportPlanner) to leave the required slots for the XC cards empty when designing the DWDM network.
The model described so far is what is commonly referred to as a "hybrid" node.
There is one other element in the toolchest however - The ADM-on-a-Blade (see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/optical/ps5724/ps2006/ps5320/product_data_sheet0900aecd805f0e80.html). This network element is an integrated part of the DWDM personality of the ONS 15454 and provides SONET/SDH switching and client ports on the blade. Please note however, that this network element provides only a high-order crossconnect.
It is generally true that one would usually keep SONET/SDH network elements in separate chassis. However, from a network management perspective these separate chassis can form a single node.
    Hope that helps
    /Dirk

  • DWDM: ONS 15454 MSTP M6 TNCE and TSCE

In a ONS 15454 MSTP M6 chassy (DWDM) both Transport Node Controller (TNC) and Transport Shelf Controller (TSC) cards can be installed in slot 1and 8 to perform system initialization, provisioning, alarm reporting, maintenance and diagnostics.
    Can someboby clarify the following:
    1) What is the difference between a TNCE and TSCE Card? (The only difference I found is that TNCE can be configured with one or two SFP ports to provide the OSC termination while TSCE not. Are there other differences? )
    2) Is it possible to intall in the same 15454 M6 chassy one TNCE and one TSCE card?
    3) Are there any circumstance under which is mandatory to install the TNCE card?
    4) Is there any suggested cisco documentation or book explaining it in details?
    Thanks

You can use an Mutiple M6 chassis in one node in a Multi Shelf configuration the TNC cards are designed to go in the the Primary or 1st node and you can use the TSC cards in the other nodes and connect them together using the MSM ports on the ECU cards.
Yes your are correct regarding the OSC ports are not enabled on the TSC cards. The TSC cards are a lower cost then the TNC cards as they are only for use with a subtended shelf.
    2) Is it possible to intall in the same 15454 M6 chassis one TNCE and one TSCE card?
I dont believe so however you can install just a single TNCE card in a chassis if you don't require redundancy
    3) Are there any circumstance under which is mandatory to install the TNCE card?
I believe a TNCE card is required for any node in a standalone configuration or in a Multi Shelf configuration.

  • Cisco 3617 to ONS 15454 E100T CAT5 Cabling

In an ethernet connection from a Cisco 7613 router ethernet port through a patch panel to an ONS 15454 E100T interface card, is a crossover cable required and if so, does convention dictate the crossover cable be installed on the router side of the patch panel or on the ONS side?

Yes, it should be a crossover cable.
I don't think there's a specific convention for placement, whichever side is best for you. However, it should be well-labeled (flags, tage, blinking lights, whatever) as a crossover cable to prevent it's replacement with a standard cable during troubleshooting.
    Good Luck

    Hello,
    quick question.
I have in my lab one M12 subrack with only-one TCC2P card and I try to prepare software upgrade in customer network.
I read all procedures at: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/optical/15000r/upgrade/guide/b-454a10-0-1-upgrade.html
My troubles started at point where I can select node where the software must be downloaded. The window is empty.
    Target version is "ons15454.DWDM.Lite.K9.R10011.pkg".
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    Hi Emyrsonn,
I hope this ONS 15454 upgrade tool can help you answering all your questions
    http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/optical/15000r/upgrade/guide/ons-upgrade.html
It seems like you should be able to directly upgrade from 9.1.x to 9.2.2.
Please let me know if you have any comments on that.
    Hope it helps!
