Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Inventory Job

My cisco prime infrastructure performs a switch inventory job every night at 22:00 hrs.  When I looked at the syslog of the devices in the inventory, I see some entries that I never saw with other LMS versions.
2014-06-30 22:00:01    Local7.Notice    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx    5410: Jun 30 22:00:00.623 CST: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx by snmp
2014-06-30 22:00:01    Local7.Notice    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx    5411: Jun 30 22:00:01.567 CST: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by vty1 (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
2014-06-30 22:05:10    Local7.Notice    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx    5412: Jun 30 22:05:09.008 CST: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by vty0 (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
I don't understand what the PI is doing with the switches.  Does anyone know what is happening during this inventory background job?  TIA

Hello all,
we have the same problem maybe; Cisco Prime IF 2.1 is changing the running-configs and produces out-of-syncs ;
it turns so for us is, as if Cisco Prime IF 2.1 a snmp-server host x.x.x.x community entry writes in the running-config,
so are running-and startup-config are out-of-sync; is this correct?  Herbert

  • A job in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 has been running for 50 days

I found a job (SAM_Poller_22_15_GETVPNPoller_1878262177) in cisco prime infrastructure 2.1 (Administration -> Job Dashboard -> System-defined), which has been running for about 50 days. Is this normal? How can I stop it? Thanks for any help..

Not normal, seems to be stuck. Try to stop (ncs stop) and start (ncs start) the system processes, which should stop this job.
If it happens again, i would recommend to open a TAC case for further investigation.

  • Email notification for config deployment jobs in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ??

We're upgrading from LMS 3.2 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure ...
In LMS 3.2 we're using netconfig all the time to configure various jobs related to port security
In installing Cisco Prime Infrastructure and working through it's use of templates, I'm having some difficulty finding out how to send out a notification once a configuration job has completed.  It's so simple in LMS 3.2 since it's part of the job creation screens.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    HI, Raymond
Just wondering if this problem is resolved?

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 and Cisco ASA

    Hello,
We've recently installed trial version of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Express. We hoped that it already supports Cisco ASA 55xx series (especially 5505, we have pretty amount of them). But we had some problems with PI and asa durind the exploitation process.
First, I've added ASA to PI, and Inventory Collection Status is Completed, but I can't see CPU and RAM utilization graphs. Inventory.logs are non-informative.
Also, config backup is success, but when I try to watch the backuped configuration at Configuration Archive PI says "Failed to fetch raw configuration". And so on.
ASA version is 5505, image is 9.1(2).
So, I have a question: is it possible to manage ASAs with PI 2.0?
UPD: I've just tried to upgrade asa to 9.1(4), and behavior of the equipment is quite the same. Seems we shall wait for 9.2 to be released.

Have you downloaded and applied the latest Device Pack updates?
PI enhanced ASA support after the initial 2.0 release and the Device Packs incorporate that change.
The README file for Device Packs explains how to install them. (A bug currently does not allow the direct download in PI so you need to follow the method for installation from local storage after you manually download. Here is a link to the download location.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - WS-C2940-8TF-S and WS-C2940-8TT-S supported ?

    Hello community,
I've got a question just to play safe.
I'm running a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1, we still do have a bunch of WS-C2940-8TF-S and WS-C2940-8TT-S with running images 12.1(22)EA12 , 12.1(22)EA13 and 12.1(22)EA14.
I know these switch types already have a End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst 2940-8TT-S and 2940-8TF-S Compact Switches ("http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2940-series-switches/end_of_life_notice_c51-510224.html").
The inventory collection status in the device work Center is for these switch types "Collection Failure", the error message is this one:
    An unexpected error has occurred:
    # Check the device is in supported device list in deployment guide -> not listed in "http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-1/release/notes/cpi_rn.html#pgfId-43885"
    # Check there is connectivity between the device and PI -> Checked adnd OK
    # Check the device credentials provided are valid -> Checked adnd OK
    # Finally if the problem still persists then contact Cisco System's technical assistance center -> not done yet, looks like these switch types are not supported any more in PI 2.1 ?
Can anyone confirm this or answer back because these switch types are supported in her/his PI2.1 installation?
    Best regards
    Bastian

Prime Infrastructure won't support those legacy models.

  • WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade

    Hello,
Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
    1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0  version
    2. Export WCS database
    3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
    4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
    5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
    6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
    7. Patch NCS software
    8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
    9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
    1. Export LMS 3.2 database
    2. Install LMS 4.2 software
    3. Install license to LMS 4.2
    4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
    5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2
    6. Export the device list with credentials from LMS 4.2.2  and import it as a Bulk Import in CPI 1.3
At the end we will have CPI 1.3 and LMS 4.2.2 software running.
Is it possible to directly upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.4 and then import data to CPI 1.3 or we need to go with 4.2.2 version?

    Jelena

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 -- Third Party Devices

    Hello,
we are using cisco prime infrastructure 2.0. Is it possible to manage third party devices? (We have a lot of Enterasys Switches)
When i want to Archive the config of the device there is an error --> No Device Package found for the specific device.
It is necessary to install device packages for third party devices? Where can i find and install these packages?
    Thx in advance

it seems not to be on the road-map according to the functional /feature comparison between LMS and PI 2.0:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps6504/ps6528/ps12239/guide_c07-729089.html
...and I doubt it will come (quickly) because config management has a lot of pitfalls and Cisco has a lot to do to get around all of them with their own devices..
However, Inventory Management for third party devices is on the road-map
older version of the document (feature comparison PI 1.2 - LMS 4.2) can be found here:

My Customer has installed over UCS Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2.
The network is composed with Switches nexus 93962-px and 2960x. All devices were discovered and inventoried successfully.
The problems is that Network Topology is not showing the connections between devices. Some devices connections are showed (partially) and another not.
We've already checked that CDP is run and working fine on all of switches.
    I appreciate your help!
    Tks,
    Regis

I'm sorry to say that but Prime Infrastructure does not support IP SLA functionality similar to Cisco Prime LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps6504/ps6528/ps12239/guide_c07-729089.html
It's in the developer's plans but there's no schedule yet for this feature.
It's possible to manually configure IP SLA on the device and then define Custom SNMP templates in Prime Infrastructure and poll whatever information you might consider relevant.
This isn't user friendly (exact OID needs to be typed manually) and is a bit quite complicated, though.
    -Thanks
    Vinod

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Express, licensing

Are there any funcionatility limitation between each edition of the Cisco Prime Infrastructure other than supported number of devices?
Does it support turning APs on and off on a predefined scheduled?
I read in the manual "Cisco Prime Infrastructure Classic View Configuration Guide for Wireless Devices" that it is possible to Managing WLAN Status Schedules.  Does it require the assurance license feature set or will lifecycle license will be sufficient?

I believe you could create a scheduled Lightweight AP Configuration Template job and have it simply turn off the radios on the selected APs. Make it recurring (every night at a certain time) and add a complementary recurring job to turn the radios back on at the desired time.
See the following screeenshot from PI 2.0 (click to enlarge):

  • Cisco prime infrastructure 1.3 makes every 15 minutes cpu high on cisco 800 routers

I have an issue with cisco prime infrastructure 1.3 and cisco 880 routers, every 15 minutes the cpu goes to 100% on those routers, but I cannot find the job on the prime which is causing this, if I look in the job dashboard I have some jobs like sam_poller_22_15_getvpnpoller_27977292 that runs every 15 minutes (other jobs that I see CDBPoller_dmvpnPoller and CDBPoller_getvpnpoller)   , probably is it on of these jobs, but how can I stop it (job type : poller job, owner =system) and what are they doing?
    thanks for any assistance

This is what i expected. I know many platform like 29xx/39xx or ISR's has known issues with Cisco Prime Infrastructure when it polls CISCO-LICENSE-MGMT-MIB, devices go high on CPU.
You have to block clmgmtLicenseInfoEntry by creating a view on your 800 router by configuring snmp view.
    Following is the command/example:
    Step 1: Configure SNMP View:
    snmp-server view iso included
    snmp-server view   clmgmtLicenseInfoEntry excluded
Link community string to SNMP View:
    snmp-server community view ro|rw
    Example per your configuration:
    snmp-server view PrimeInfra iso included
    snmp-server view PrimeInfra clmgmtLicenseInfoEntry excluded
snmp-server community ArgSnmp view PrimeInfra RO ACLSNMP_RO
OR you can try following on your Cisco PI:
    Manually update file below,
Open the /opt/CSCOlumos/conf/sam/template.xml, modify the template id=20  (licensePoller)
Update tag for value 600 to 86400 for all attrributes () of
    template id =20
    Old: 600
    New: 86400
Some known bugs on such issues are :
    CSCug97914 and CSCuc72024
Please check and let me know the updates.
    -Thanks

any idea what could be the issue here?

OK, that's the correct one. Can you verify the checksum of the file? It should be:
         91dc6ebc446c1c9c000c69af4be93102
If that's OK, I would delete the VM and try installing the ova once more.
Other than that, I'd suggest calling the TAC if it's a supported installation (i.e. not an evaluation copy).

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 release date

What is the release date for Cisco Prime Infrastructure ?  What are the improvement from 1.2 to 2.0 ?
    thanks
    Morgan

    It's currently due out 31 August 2013.
I haven't seen the final release notes but it will incorporate a lot of the features currently in LMS 4.2 for wired infrastructure management that are currently missing in PI 1.x.
I have heard it will not include Topology or template compliance reports and jobs at 2.0 - those features did not make the development cutoff date for 2.0 but they are projected for 2.1.
