Cisco Prime Infrastructure has stopped to working

Hi community,
We are facing some problems with our CPI 1.3. The software suddenly stopped responding. We already tried to restart the service and the machine without success.
The following message was shown when we tried to start NCS:

Any idea how can I solve this?
I'm also trying to open a case with Cisco, but they ask me about SN, and I'm using a VM/OVA deployment. I don't know how to find it.
I also checked that we have a problem with space:

Hi,
Since it is a virtual appliance just attach them show tech-support and this should be sufficient for them. Regarding the disk space usage what you can do is:
1) Enable root access if you haven't ("root_enable" command).
2) Enter root mode.
3) Execute "du -sh /opt/*" it will list directories inside /opt which are consuming your disk space. After just analyze or find out which directories and files are causing this filling up.

• Difference between Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Cisco Prime NCS

Dear All,
I am currenctly confused in choosing what type of Cisco Prime.
1.Which one should I choose? should I order Cisco Prime NCS or directly purchase Cisco Prime Infrastructure (since Cisco Prime Infrastructure has the feature of NCS)?
2, Why does Cisco not just remove the Cisco Prime NCS ordering Part Number since Cisco Prime Infrastructure already cover the NCS?
Please advice me

Hortono,
I started to write a long and lengthy msg about my experience with this, but instead, let me direct you to the horses mouth. There have been weekly webinars in regards to Cisco Prime (many differnt products under this headline) including Infrastructure. I believe the Cisco PI is actually scheduled for Thursdays, so hopefully you'll look at this in time to catch it and ask your questions from the gurus.

Looks like this may be the last week, catch it if you can.

If it happens again, i would recommend to open a TAC case for further investigation.

• Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 OVA - URL/FTP not working

The ESXi install of the theNCS OVA was successful. NCS seems to load and activate interfaces. The console session is working. Using compliant browsers; https://<ip address> does not work. When I stop "ncs" or halt the vm the web page responds shortly but then the connection is lost. I used "show ports" and tried https://<ip address>/8082 and get a login from the Cisco Prime Infrastructure Health Monitor URL. There is a prompt for the authorization key. How can I confirm the installation is complte and all services are up and running
Thanks
Terry

After digging almost 1 month, I found the answer.
When you do provision from ESXi with ova file, you have to create "Thick Provision" otherwise, you wiil have same problem such as "some services are not up"
In my case, I am running ESXi on the top of VM WorkStation since I don't have any ESXi server. When I added 250GB into the WorkStation and did provision with "Thick" it works !!!
Since my testing envrionment is little complicated (ESXi with VM WorkStation), I added first 250GB HDD into ESXi, and tried. It didn't work. So I added 250GB into VM WorkStation and did provision through Workstation, it worked (If you don't understand this statements, do not worry. If you have ESXi server, you don't need to worry about)
As far as cisco ova is concerned, when I talked to one of my my friend who was working for new ACS (Virtual Appliance) he had same issue. He also solved with "Thick Provision"
FYI, even if when I installed with "Thin Provision", PI 1.2 used only 10GB out of 200GB, so I did not think that I should use "Think Provision". But definitely not.

• Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 - TFTP backup WLC not working

I don;t get the the background task "Controller Configuration Backup" working. I want to use default TFTP.
When i look in the logging i see 2 of three WLC's succesfully backuped there logging. Is their a log file where you can see what is happening?
With kind regards,
Martijn.

Hi Martijn:
If you go to the controller's GUI to Commands > Upload File and manually trigger the TFTP Configuration backup, does the process complete as expected? If not, whatever's causing that problem needs to be addressed first.
When someone wants to do a config backup from the command line, they give a series of commands
transfer download datatype config
transfer download mode tftp
transfer download serverip x.x.x.x
transfer download path ./
transfer download filename myBackup.cfg
transfer download start
The Controller Config Backup background task is just the SNMP version of "transfer download filename " and "transfer download start". If these other required settings aren't already there, the task isn't going to set them (the humans have to). If there's a problem with writing out the file on the server, or packet routing issues to get to the server, the task isn't going to see those things, it just knows that the answer to "transfer download start" wasn't "Okay!"
As for watching this processing in logs, go to Administration > Logging, and set the logging level to Trace for the modules SNMP and System, and click Save. Then kick off your backup attempt, allowing it to fail. When it does, return to Administration > Logging, and click the Download button to retrieve the logs.zip file. The activity should be in the ncs-x-x.log file.
If you don't have the new Update-1 patch for Prime Infrastructure 1.3.0.20 (filename PI_1.3.0.20_Update_1-12.tar.gz) installed, I'd suggest you get it. While it's not going to specifically address this issue, there are a lot of really good fixes in it.

• After Update Cisco Prime Infrastructure from 1.3 to 2.0 imported floor plans has black background

Hello everybody,
we have updated cisco prime infrastructure from 1.3 to 2.0. When we now import a floor plan (autocad-file, dwg-format), the background from finally image, that is show in prime, is black. Previous imported floor planes has a white background. We also tried to import a previous imported floor plan again, the background is now black. Is there a possibilty to change the background to white? Thanks

Hi,
Look no further, these issues are related to know bugs. It seems that autocad files have multiple issues with PI 2.0, Only feasible way is to convert them to JPGs and import them. Lets hope these will get fixed to the level they where at PI 1.3.
CSCuj63017, PI 2.0 dwg(AutoCAD file) import reports Tailormade is for Demo use only
Symptom:
When dwg files are imported to Prime Infrastructure, they report
"For Demonstration Purposes only
Tailor made software"
Conditions:
Prime Infrastructure - 2.0.0.0.294
Use of dwg (Auto cad) files
Workaround:
None at this time
Further Problem Description:
CSCuj94500, Loading DWG floor maps on PI 2.0 appears in black background
Symptom:
On PI 2.0 when we try to import autoCAD .dwg file to map, the map appears in black background.
Conditions:
On PI 2.0 when we try to import autoCAD .dwg file to map
Workaround:
use 3rd party tool like Draftsight or AutoCAD Trueview to change the file to .jpg and import again to PI, after that the map appear in white background in PI 2.0.
Further Problem Description:
However, the same .dwg file when we imported it to PI 1.3 appear in map with white background.

Hi All,
I installed the trial version of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 on ESXi server.
It installed propersly and and i am able to ping it and also ssh into it.
But when I try to access it via web interface, it does not work.
I am provided with a login screen but after putting my credentials the page goes blank.
There also an error on the page "Error occured while fetching Meatdata for Slider Panel" and there is a advertisemnt to download Google chrome Framework.
When i do "NCS status" in CLI i see that every service is running.
Does anyone know how to solve this.
All your help is highly appreciated.

Google Chrome Frame isnt supported anymore, using Google Chrome doesnt work with all features and forget about Firefox. Up until this morning I had it working on IE11 but some update caused me to have this problem again. Cisco needs to get this fixed. I use several applications from Cisco and they still can't figure out a way to have them all work on a single browser.

• Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 Rest API XML does not add LF

I am using several scripts that dig the data from XML files created through Cisco Prime Infrastructure Rest API. It worked fine until 2.1. Now, with 2.2, seems Cisco stopped adding LF to each line and everything is 'one' line.
Here is an example with 2.1, there is a LF to the end of each line:
?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<queryResponse type="AccessPointDetails" rootUrl="https://server/webacs/api/v1/data" requestUrl="https://server/webacs/api/v1/data/AccessPointDetails?type=contains(UnifiedAp)&.full=true&.maxResults=1000&.firstResult=0" responseType="listEntityInstances" count="715" first="0" last="714">
<entity url="https://server/webacs/api/v1/data/AccessPointDetails/1505569" type="AccessPointDetails" dtoType="accessPointDetailsDTO">
<accessPointDetailsDTO id="1505569" displayName="1505569">

<capabilities>Switch IGMP </capabilities>
<duplex>Half Duplex</duplex>

<platform>cisco WS-C3560-8PC</platform>
</cdpNeighbor>
Now, with 2.2, there is not LF anywhere:
?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><queryResponse type="AccessPointDetails" rootUrl="https://server/webacs/api/v1/data" requestUrl="https://server/webacs/api/v1/data/AccessPointDetails?type=contains(UnifiedAp&.full=true&.maxResults=1000&.firstResult=0" responseType="listEntityInstances" count="715" first="0" last="714">

Does anyone know, is this intentional or a mistake? Or is there a way how I control this?
I am reading on-line CPI Rest API docs, but seems cannot find anything.
Thanks,
Vlad

PI 2.0 is in Beta mode for testing in closed group already. However it may still take some time to get released on CCO for FCS.
I think it is expected to be released between aug-sep. BU has also started working on CPI 2.1, which you can see test uploads on CCO.
For what does it have for customers?
> As Cisco have a vision of one network Management software for both wired and wireless infrastructure, which started getting real partially with Cisco PI.
As WCS got evolved to NCS and eventually to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but it doesnt yet have full Management capability for wired infra., which is there with LMS.
With CPI 2.x Cisco plans to blend entire LMS and WCS features together.

• When is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 released, and what does 2.0 offer?

We are running Prime Infrastructure 1.3 primarily for wireless management at this point. We have enough licenses to add all our switches, routers, and firewalls, but we're hesitant to do so until 2.0 comes out. While there are some features for backing up and configuring switches and routers, 1.3 still seems pretty limited in regards to non-wireless features. For example, nearly every report in 1.3 is for wireless controllers or AP's, there are no reports I've found relevent for switches and routers. I've read a lot of blogs, cisco posts, and white papers talking about how Cisco Prime Infrastrucure 2.0 will finally consolidate Prime into a truly all-in-one network management suite that can manage the entire Cisco environment. Does anyone know when it's officially being released? Does anyone have an tech sheets on what's new in 2.0, or what its capabilities are? I want to better understand what 2.0 has to offer, when it's coming out, how to upgrade, so I can start planning for the upgrade and eventually importing all our network devices to Cisco Prime for centralized management. Any useful information or links would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Christian

• Cisco Prime Infrastructure patch 2.1.1 - HA issue

Hello,
I have a problem with the Cisco Prime Infrastructure patched to version 2.1.1. I did exactly what Installation Guidelines say:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-1-1/release/notes/cpi_rn.html
– Install the Prime Infrastructure 2.1.1 patch by using the Administration > Software Updates page on the primary server.
– Restart the primary server.
– Verify that the patch installation is complete. If you find the installation complete, decommission and reinstall the secondary server and add it back to the primary server.
I reinstalled HA server and I'm trying to add it to HA but I get "Failed to authenticate - Primary(xx.xx.xx.xx) and Secondary(xx.xx.xx.xy) PI version does not match"
Can you help me with that? What I'm doing wrong? or maybe this patch is not prepared to work in HA mode?
Regards

Symptom:
The installation instructions of PI 2.1.1 patch in a High Availability environment are not accurate and following these steps will result in the inability to re-pair the Primary and Secondary servers.
Conditions:
If the instructions are followed, then when the user attempts to re-pair the servers, an error will be encountered:
"High Availability Registration Failed - Failed to authenticate - Primary (x.x.x.1) and Secondary (x.x.x.2) PI version does not match".
Instead, the following steps have proved to work correctly:
1. Upload and install patch on primary.
2. Upload and install patch on secondary.
3. Stop NCS services on secondary
4. Stop NCS services on primary
5. Start services on secondary
6. Start services on primary
7. Re-pair HA servers from primary
Workaround:
Workaround 1:
On the secondary, go under root and issue:
# cd /opt/CSCOlumos/bin/
# ./hamode.sh primary
Answer 'yes' when prompted.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
When the services are back up, login to the secondary GUI as you would login to a primary server
Go under Administration > Software update, upload the patch and install it.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
When the services are up, go under root and issue:
# cd /opt/CSCOlumos/bin/
# ./hamode.sh secondary
Answer 'yes' when prompted.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
After the message that services started successfully on the secondary, initiate a new High Availability configuration from the primary. Now the synchronization between the two servers should succeed.
Workaround 2:
Redeploy or reinstall the Primary server, restore the backup which was taken prior to applying the patch, reconfigure the High Availability and continue with the steps described in the Conditions section.

NetFlow is also supported by these devices Cisco 800, 1700, 1800, 2800, 3800, 6500, 7300, 7600, 10000, CRS-1 and these Catalyst series switches: 45xx, 55xx, 6xxx.
NetFlow export is also supported on other Cisco switches when using a NetFlow Feature Card (NFFC) or NFFC II and the Route Switch Module (RSM), or Route Switch Feature Card (RSFC). However, check whether version 5 is supported, as most switches export version 7 by default.
You can check the below steps to diagnose the issue::
To verify that NetFlow is exported from a device to PI, follow the steps below:
1) Browse to Administration > Data Sources page. Check the value in column ‘Last Active Time’ for the ‘Device Data Sources’ table. If the table is empty or the value does not represent recent time, then
it is possible that the device is not exporting NetFlow or PI Assurance license is not applied / expired.
2) Login to PI console ( via SSH) as root user and run the command:
netstat –an | grep 9991 – Output of this should be like :  udp        0      0 :::9991         :::*
Check the firewall settings on PI server using the command: firewall -L
1) Check the configuration on an IOS / IOS –XE device. Run the commands
a) sh running-config | inc destination
1) This should list the IP address of the PI SERVER ( along with other outputs if any)
b) sh running-config | inc 9991
1) This should list at least one entry.
c) If the above are fine, then verify that the flow monitor, flow exporter and the flow records are correctly configured on the device.
Refer to the URLs below to configure NetFlow export.

• Cisco Prime Infrastructure MESH LINK ISSUE

Hi,
a Customer of us has a trouble with cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.0.12 and AP mesh link.
There is an huge database ( i suppose the issue can be here ) and when we display some map ( each floor has about 6 RAP and 24 MAP ) we cannot see the MESH information and link draw.
The only way to dipley them is to disable "refresh from network": this way I'm able to show these link..... until a click before.
What i noticied when all was working fine, after i click to some floor:
1) the software started to show the map with normal color and no mesh info displayed ( just ap and coverage cloud )
2) after few time ( less than 1 second ) the map was becoming a little bit lighter and the mesh info was merged to the map
We are missini the second step
Anyone had the same issue ?
best regards
Luigi
PS: I opened a case with WCS version 6.0 ( same issue ) but, after some months, no risult. The last version working fine was WCS 5.2

Just to add some more informations:
- disabling "refreshj from network" ( building properties ) the link and mesh info are showed
- while I'm on a floor, after some refresh, i loose the mesh link draw and, if i click on an AP, i loose also mesh info in the popup. It' s like, after some refresh, the AP are no more recognized as Mesh ( !?!? )
regards
Luigi
