Cisco Prime Monitor Sub Interfaces

We are currently running Cisco Prime 2.1 and trying to monitor sub interfaces on our Cisco 7606.  We can see the sub interfaces by:
Operate | Device Work Center
Select Quick Filter (to find the 7606)
Select Interfaces
Select IP Interfaces
The sub interfaces that we wish to monitor are displayed (with the above steps).  However, when we try to select the interface to monitor, the sub interfaces do not appear:
Home | Detail Dashboard
Select Interface
Select the interface pull-down | All | 7606
We do not see the sub interfaces, only 2 interfaces are displayed.  We do not see the interface GigabitEthernet4/7 at all.  What are we missing here?

  • Prime 2.0 monitor sub interface

Can you monitor a sub-interface using Prime 2.0 - TenGigabitEthernet4/7.2010?  If so how?  When we select Design | Management Tools | Port Grouping | Add to Group | Select Group | WAN Interfaces we do not see any sub-interfaces

Step 1 Download the appropriate point patch to a local resource in your environment:
     a. With the Cisco Download Software navigator displayed in your browser, select Products > Cloud and Systems Management > Routing and Switching Management > Network Management Solutions > Cisco Prime Infrastructure .
     b. Select the version of Cisco Prime Infrastructure that most closely matches the one you are currently using (e.g., Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ).
     c. Click Prime Infrastructure Patches to see the list of available patches for that version of the product.
     d. Next to each patch that is required, click Download , then follow the prompts to download the file.
Step 2 Open a command-line interface session with the Prime Infrastructure server (see Connecting Via CLI in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Administrator Guide ).
Step 3 Copy the downloaded patch file to the default local repository. For example:
     admin# copy source path /defaultRepo
    Where:
source is the downloaded patch file’s location and name (for example: ftp://MyFTPServer/pi_9.3.1.0_update.tar.gz).
path is the complete path to the default local backup repository, defaultRepo.
    Step 4 Install the patch:
     admin# patch install patchFile defaultRepo
Where patchFile is the name of the patch file you copied to defaultRepo.

  • Cisco Prime 2.0 - Interface failure

Last week I setup PI 2.0 on an ESX server using the OVA template. I can access the PI through the WebGUI without issue.
Because of our network topology, I need to use 3 interfaces to properly manage our environment. Through vCenter, I added 2 additional interfaces, and rebooted the server.  All three interfaces show up properly in the CLI as well as in the GUI. I configured all three itnerfaces with the appripriate IP addresses, and configured a single default gateway out interface Gi 0.
Gi 1 connects to our TACACs server as well as our swith infrastructure. Gi 2 connects to our WLAN infrastrcuture, and will be used to manage WISM2s (and the WLAN controllers in the new 4500 SUP-8 when the software gets released).
I managed to setup TACACS to our old ACS 4.2 server thgough Gi 1, as well as add a couple of switches to PI.
I could not however add the WISM2 through int Gi 2 (PI and controller in the same subnet). I could ping the controller from the PI, and viceversa, but could not poll the device, not access it via SSH.
After hours of troubleshooting and getting now where, I swapped interface Gi 1 and Gi 2, and reconfigured the IP addresses appropriatly, i.e. Gi 1 is now conencted to the WLAN infrastrcture, and Gi 2 connected to the switch infrastrcture.
After the change I could no longer access the PI using TACACS, nor could I update or add any devices connected through Gi 2.  They still show as reachable (as I beleive the reachability is ICMP-based), but that's it. I had no issues connecting the WISM2 to the PI once the WLAN mgmt interface was moved to Gi 1.
Does anyone know of any restrictions in PI regarding the number of supported interfaces? I search bug tracker and the documentaiton, and could nto find anything related.
My only conclusion is that PI 2.0 does not properly support more than 2 interfaces.
Has anyone else run into this "feature"? Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you add "ip route" statements for the additional NICs?

  • Import local net users to Cisco Prime 1.2

    Hi,
We have 4400 WLC that has about 400 local users configured under local net users and we are deploying Cisco Prime 1.2 in our company. Does anyone know how to import these users to Cisco prime? I was told that it could only be done manually like re entering all 400 entries to Cisco Prime! if this is the case it 'll be tedious.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
Complete the following steps to migrate data from WCS:
    1. Place the WCS export ZIP file (for example, wcs.zip) in a repository or folder (for example, repositories).
    2. Log in as the admin user and stop the Cisco Prime Infrastructure server by entering the ncs stop  command. Configure the FTP repository on the Cisco Prime Infrastructure  appliance using the repository command as shown in configuration  snippet below:
    pi-appliance/admin# configure
    pi-appliance/admin(config)# repository pi-ftp-repo
    pi-appliance/admin(config-Repository)# url ftp://209.165.200.227/backup
    pi-appliance/admin(config-Repository)# user ftp-user password plain ftp-user
Note: Make sure the archived file is available with the show repository command.
    3. Enter the ncs migrate command in order to restore the WCS database.
    pi-appliance/admin# ncs migrate wcs-data wcs.zip repository pi-ftp-repo
    4. By default, no WCS events are migrated. Enter the ncs start  command in order to start the Cisco Prime Infrastructure server after  the upgrade is completed. Log in to the Cisco Prime Infrastructure user  interface with the root login and the root password.
For mmore information you can refer to the cisco prime infrastructure deployment guide:

  • Monitoring ASA in Cisco Prime infrastructure 2.2

Hi everybody.  I have some issue with cisco Prime Infrastructure  2.2.  We use this product in our network for monitoring network devices and I need to monitor also our ASA 5550 device with soft 8.4.  I  added ASA to Cisco PI but see only basic component like my device can reachable via  and read via snmp. But cannot see  CPU, RAM, Device ENV like Temperature, l2l vpn connection,  Interfaces status and Utilization that interfaces, cannot see sub interface that placed on ASA like that g0/0.20.  I need fully monitor ASA and See logs and trap for my device:
CPU RAM ENV (Temperature), Interface and sub interface status, L2L VPN  Status.
1 Cisco Prime infrastructure can full support  ASA for monitoring and logging.. IF YES how can i configure  that features in Cisco PI 2.2 for ASA
2 IF not which product Can full support that features for full monitoring and logging  ASA devices
I have a little deadline for finishing
    thanks everybody before

I've not success monitoring ASA interface utilization either. I'm using PI 2.2 with device update #1. The ASA is a 5585-X with 9.2(3) software.
I have deployed the PI monitoring template to the ASA and do see its overall status and PI has enumerated the interfaces in the device page.
I even looked at a packet capture and see PI querying the values of the interface counters and those values being sent back to PI - yet I cannot select any ASA interface when drilling down under Performance Detail monitoring.
When I get some free time I will open a TAC case on it, meanwhile I am getting all the info I need from the upstream and downstream switches.

  • Including Interface Description in Cisco PRime Infrastructure Alarm Message

    Hi all,
i succesfully configured a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 applliance to display an alarm and to send me an e-mail when switch uplink ports goes down.
The text displayed in alarm message is :
port 'interface_id' is down on device 'device_ip_address'
I'd like to include in this text also the interface description so the text will display :
port 'interface_id'  'interface_descriprion' is down on device 'device_ip_address'
    Is this possible?
    Thankyou in advance

    Hi,
    i followed these steps :
    SWITCH SIDE
    - configured Prime Infrastructure as snmp-server host;
    - enabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown events globally;
    - disabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown on non relevant interfaces using the no snmp trap link-status command
    PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE SIDE
    - under "Deploy/Monitor Deployment" i deployed template "Interface Health"  for all the interested switches
    -  under "Administration/System Settings/Mail Server Configuration" configured my internal SMTP server to make Prime Infrastructure able to send e-mails
    - under "Operate/Alarms & Events" click on "Email Notifications" , then on "Switches and Hubs"
       - check the "critical" box ,  insert the destination e-mail address into the "To" field then click "Save"
     -  check the "switches and Hubs" box and then click Save
As i know is possible to avoid to configure every single not-interesting port on the switches with "no snmp trap link-status" command (it's a bit annoying when you have tens of switches), using Port Grouping configuration on PI but i tried it without success.
    Hope this helps.

  • Change Interface availability threshold from Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0

    Dear Community,
I’m working in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 and I’m having the following problem:
I want to monitor the interfaces availability from all the devices of my network. But only makes sense send an email notification  for the most critical interfaces. I don´t want to receive an email notification every time anyone unplugs the network wire.
    How can I achieve this?
I already tried to change the interface availability threshold from the Interface Health Threshold Template, but this one isn´t available to configure.
The idea was to change the severity of the alarm so I could distinguish what type of alarm would send email notification.
I also created a Custom SNMP Template that gets the ifOperStatus using the MIB IF-MIB. This also didn’t work because Prime Infrastructure doesn’t allow me to define thresholds to a Custom SNMP Template.
Without threshold, no alarm, without no alarm, no email notification!
    Can you help?
    Regards,
    Daniel CJ

Only on the HA pair which would be the secondary.
High Availability (HA) RTU: If Cisco Prime Infrastructure is deployed in a high availability configuration with one primary and one secondary instance in an HA pair, then an HA RTU is required. You only need to purchase a single set of the regular licenses (for example, Base, Lifecycle, and so on) for the primary instance.

I have not that graph so I am just guessing that you are noticing the difference between policing and shaping. It seems to me you are applying these techniques on each platform on a different way. Try to shape/police in the same order or only to shape.

  • UPS monitoring support with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Dear Members,
    Good day,
I am having a project implemented wherein i have the UPS power redudancy solution for our network devices.
Now can anyone gide that is it possible for below :-
UPS units installed with SNMP cards be monitored via Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 as our monitoring & management solution is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ?
    if yes
Can you guide if following action would be possible to export the below logs from UPS unit to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
       a) UPS fault status information
       b) UPS operational status(input power available Y/N)
       c) Battery fault status
       d) Battery charging current
       e) Battery charge level
       f) Output current
Conclusion is we need to confirm that would it be posible to achieve remote monitoring of these UPS units via our CPI 1.2
Thanks in Advance for your support & replies to this query.
    Regards,
    Muzammil N.

Prime Infrastructure 1.2 can manage non-Cisco devices in a limited fashion via SNMP query and trap processing. It cannot import logs and does not have a generic syslog server,
So if your devices have snmp read only support and can generate SNMP traps for the above you can add them to PI. Follow the manual add device procedure here.

  • Include multiple sub-interfaces in Cisco ASA for VPN tunnel

I am trying to create a VPN tunnel between two Cisco ASAs where one ASA has multiple sub-interfaces.
Say, In Cisco ASA 5550(in datacentre), I created multiple subinterfaces with VLAN ID as below:
    Inside, int0/1 : 10.1.1.0/24
    DMZ, int0/1.100: 10.1.100.0/24 (VLAN 100)
    Production, int 0/1.101 : 10.1.101.0/24 (VLAN 101)
    Management, int 0/1.102: 10.1.102.0/24 (VLAN 102)
And another Cisco ASA 5505 is only configured with 1 x inside interface Inside, int 0/1: 192.168.1.0/24
So far, I have only been able to provide outside access to one of the sub-interfaces as NAT rule on inside interface didn't work for VLANs. Hence had to issue Global NAT rule to be applied on Production subinterface so that production VLAN can have outside access. I have managed to establish VPN tunnel between two ASAs on Production sub-interface only, Source interface = Production subinterface
    Additional settings:
Have ACL to allow all sub interfaces to access outsite ( lower security level)
NAT rules is configured on Production subinterface with Source NAT Type as Dynamic PAT; when this was configured with source interface as inside, PCs behind various VLAN coun't access internet.
I want to establish a site-to-site VPN tunnel with multiple sub-interfaces of Cisco ASA 5550 to Cisco ASA 5505. Would you please suggest what I am missing in my configuration? I need to be able to access multiple VLANs of datacentre from remote site.

  • Can I rate-limit on the sub-interface in cisco asr 1013?

    Hi,
I am looking for the command of rate-limit on a sub-interface in cisco asr 1013.
Cisco IOS Software, IOS-XE Software (X86_64_LINUX_IOSD-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 15.2(2)S, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
    IOS XE Version: 03.06.00.S
Please let me know if it is possible in cisco asr 1013. If yes then what are the commands.
    Zobair

The ASR no longer supports the rate-limit command, but it does support the same functionality in a QoS policy.
Please find a sample configuration -
    ASR1004(config)#policy-map test
    ASR1004(config-pmap)#class class-default
    ASR1004(config-pmap-c)#shape average 10000
Applying for both ingress and egress : -
    ASR1004(config)#int gig1/1/0
    ASR1004(config-if)#service-policy output test
    or
    ASR1004(config-if)#service-policy input test
