Cisco Prime Running in Microsoft Hyper-V

Hi,
We already have Ciscp Prime LMS 4.2 now and we want to migrate from physical server to Microsoft HYPER-V. Are this possible? Any issues when run in HYPER-V. Please advise.

Hi Omar,
Unfortunately ,it is not supported to install PI on hyper v.
Cisco may start this support on PI 2.1 ( but that is not confirmed yet )
Thanks-
Afroz

  • Cisco Prime - Running LMS on a Windows PDC

    Greetings,
Due to certain limitations we must run Cisco Prime on a Windows PDC (Primary Domain Controller).  This isn't supported, and the install/upgrade won't let you accomplish this, but I think on our Windows 2008 R2 Server Cisco Prime was originally installed on a stand-alone server that was later changed to a PDC.  We're running LMS 4.2.3 and it seems to run fine but now we need to upgrade but the installer won't allow it.  Has anyone out there come up with a workaround that allows you to run an upgrade on a PDC?
Any clever ideas on how to circumvent this greatly appreciated!
    George

I see better what you mean now I didn't associate AD with the windows domain.
Yes I too had a customer where the LMS server down after it was "targeted" by a GPO from a policyserver.
I was good for doing a reinstall of LMS until on of people of their network team found what policy clobbered the server. He could then revert the damage.
Basically the server is best left alone as well as the casuser account.
Actually the prefered situation from cisco is to take the machine out of the domain (standalone).
    Cheers,
    Michel

Migrating Cisco WCS Licenses to Cisco Prime NCS Licenses
The Cisco Prime Network Control System uses a single-tier license model. When Cisco WCS BASE or WCS PLUS licenses are being migrated, licenses will be mapped to the new Cisco Prime NCS single-tier model, as shown in Figure 1. Customers are able to migrate their existing WCS licenses by purchasing the migration SKU (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9) as also indicated.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 on Windows Server/Hyper-V

    Hi Everyone,
In Entriprise environment while designing a BYOD solution we need to integrate ISE3315 with CPI 1.2. I know that Cisco ISE software either runs on 3315 platform or other option is virtual appliance (which is VMware based). Now problem is that we have Hyper-V environment as standard so I need to go with ISE-3315. Here my concern is to I install CPI 1.2 on Hyper-V, or on a Windows Server (2008 or 2012) based machine. Is that doable?
Any help, suggessions would be warmly welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Azhar...

Cisco Prime LMS will slowly be phased out in favor of Cisco Prime Infrastructure and hence there are no new mainline releases are planned to provide support to new Hardware or virtualization support.
However, Prime LMS do support Hyper V Virtualization (As an installable in Windows 2008). Please note that Virtualization technologies like, VMWare and Hyper V virtualization systems are not supported in LMS 5000, and LMS 10000 Devices license, in Windows. VMWare Systems are supported in LMS 5000, and LMS 10000 Devices license in Soft Appliance. • Running Cisco Prime in Cloud

    Hi There,
One of our customer would like to check, if the Cisco Prime Infrastructure can be hosted in a Cloud environment to run? I.e like in a  AWS or Microsoft Azure platform?
    -Siva Prasad

Prime Infrastructure requires a VMware ESXi host server (or a Cisco hardware appliance) in order for you to install it in the first place.
You cannot install it on a generic Linux instance as it comes as a packaged OVA (Open virtual Appliance) file that has it's own customized and hardened Linux (based on RHEL) built-in.

Not normal, seems to be stuck. Try to stop (ncs stop) and start (ncs start) the system processes, which should stop this job.
If it happens again, i would recommend to open a TAC case for further investigation.

  • Is cisco prime infrastructure support / can be run as syslog server?

    Dear All,
is cisco prime infrastructure support / can be run as syslog server?
    and,
where i can see network topology diagram, using cisco prime infrastructure?
    many thanks,
    Jerri

Hello. Cisco Prime LMS will be replaced by Cisco Prime Infrastructure in the near future.
In the current release of Cisco Prime Infrastructure you can't use topology diagrams. This feature is in roadmap.
About syslog, you can send syslogs to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but I don't recommend using it as syslog server. Please see this link for more information https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2179520

  • Installing Certificate from Microsoft CA (.pfx) in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hello,
we are trying to install certificates from our CA on our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
What we get from our colleagues is a file in .pfx format, containing an exportable key and the whole certificate chain.
On the prime server, using openssl 0.9.8, we exportet the key and converted the file to .pem.
When trying to install the certificate, we get the following error code:
prime# ncs key importkey key-nopw.pem newcert.pem repository certificate
INFO: no staging url defined, using local space.        rval:2
ERROR: dowload of key-nopw.pem failed.  rval:-200
Does anyone have an idea what formats can be used for prime ssl certificates and how to install them?
The official guide has only little information on how to make a csr and install the certificate.
    Best regards,
    Joerg

  • Issues with Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3

    Hi,
I'm trailing Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3 Soft appliance on ESXi before I deploy it into a live environment and am having some issues.
I've upgraded to version 4.2.3 and the box was working fine after the upgrade however on power it up today the Apache service will not start.
If I look at the LMS application I see this for the Apache service.
"Apache                Administrator has shut down this server   0 "
I have tried to starting it.
    CiscoLMS42/admin# application start Apache
    % Application failed to start
    CiscoLMS42/admin#
If I run an application operation debug at the same time I get the following output.
    CiscoLMS42/admin# 6 [5343]: application:operation cars_install.c[1145] [admin]: Application initialization initiated for appname: Apache, operation: 0
    7 [5343]: application:operation cars_install.c[1146] [admin]: Operations: O-APP_START, 1-APP_STOP, 2-APP_STATUS
    6 [5343]: application:operation cars_install.c[1150] [admin]: Verifying app (Apache) is installed ...
3 [5343]: application:operation cars_install.c[1152] [admin]: App (Apache) is not installed.
    3 [5343]: application:operation install_cli.c[281] [admin]: Error while starting application  - Application: Apache ErrorCode: -999
I'm at a complete lose as to where to look next, failing anything else I'll have to rebuild it, but it would be nice to know how to get the Apache up and running again.
    regards
    Rich

    Hi Richard,
    I see the following:
    [ Thu Apr 18 20:53:11 GMT 2013 ] TomcatMonitor After gettingAJPPort : ajpPort = 9009 and host =CiscoLMS42
    [ Thu Apr 18 20:53:11 GMT 2013 ] TomcatMonitor theMgr constructor successful.
    [ Thu Apr 18 20:53:11 GMT 2013 ] TomcatMonitor Inside whileloop
[ Thu Apr 18 20:53:11 GMT 2013 ] TomcatMonitor Tomcat is not ready, it's coming up Connection refused
It looks like the hostname cannot be resolved. Can you try to add a static entry in /etc/hosts for the IP of the server and CiscoLMS42?
Restart the daemon manager and it should work.

  • Replicate in the Master controller and creation of new user with cisco prime infrastructure 2.1.

    Hello!!
We have multiple controllers Cisco WLC 5508 (all running software version 7.6.120.0) distributed in various buildings and a controller in other control building (also Cisco WLC 7.6.120.0 5508) operating as Master and backup of the buildings's controllers .
Each building is radiated such an SSID that is used as a validation of the user connected to that SSID web portal each controller (in the WLAN, Security -> Layer 3 -> Web Policy), using the local database to validate the user.
The problem is that the local database of users is not being replicated between controllers buildings and the Master controller, so if you drop the controller of a building, the Master controller begins to provide service to the buildings access points, but the equivalent radiated SSID cannot able to validate users.
I need know if it's possible through Cisco Prime Infrastruture 2.1, first replicate in the Master controller on the basis of existing controllers buildings each local data and, second, that the creation of new users are automatically perform both the controllers like to the Master .
    Thanks.

As noted earlier, it is not advisable to use the root user to log in for normal use. New users and groups can be created by navigating to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA as shown in the preceding figures. It would help to chalk out what are the various levels at which you want to distribute the users, and to create those roles first. It doesn’t really matter whether you create users or groups first. New users can be easily added by going to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA > Users > Add Users > Select “Add Users” from the drop-down on the right side. Once you get into the add user workflow, fill in the username, password, and local authorization for this user as shown in the figure below.
A virtual domain can also be assigned to the users when you define their roles by selecting the virtual domain on the left side and moving it to the right side as shown in the image below (left).
