Cisco Prime SNMP trap logs
Hi
In Cisco Prime Infrastructure, where can we find the snmp trap logs and can we do the snmp polling through webconsole, please suggest how we can troubleshoot if the device is not reachable, do we need to login through ssh and check or is there any other options available.
Can we find out the configuration details of the specific device, how we can do it.
Please advice
Hi abhishek ,
First of al you have to check on your devices SNMP is enable or not , its all depending on SNMP configuration , if possible check the running config , and paste the running configration , to solve your issue

Cisco Prime SNMP Traps Best Pratice
The Cisco Prime documentation recommends configuring switches to send SNMP traps. However it does not give any more details.
I was wondering what sorts of SNMP traps people in the community are using with Cisco Prime 2.1. I'm looking for some sort of best practice or for an idea of what traps would be the most useful to configure on the switches, to send to Prime.Hi ,
Snmp traps need to be configured only on device end , there is no config need to be done on PI.
you can enable all the traps that you want. for e.g
snmp-server enable traps syslog
snmp-server enable traps ipsec start stop
snmp-server enable traps memory-threshold
snmp-server enable traps interface-threshold
snmp-server enable traps connection-limit-reached
snmp-server enable traps cpu threshold rising
etc......
and you can monitor then in PI (Administration > System Settings > Severity Configuration, Link down)
check the below link as well:

Is it possible to send an SNMP trap from Cisco ACE 4710 for any configuration changes that occurs?
Regards,
HeshamHi Hesham,
these are the traps which are supported by ACE.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/ace/vA5_1_0/configuration/administration/guide/snmp.html#wp1177230
read section "ACE SNMP Notifications (Traps)"
I do not see a trap which is useful for your requirement.

Cisco Prime infrastructure data (log) retention information
Hello,
Given that:
It is possible to backup and restore the system.
I can archive my backups and log on an historical storage. Is it possible
Restoring / loading the backed-up information for a delayed forensic analisys without having to set the system off line even temporary ?
Usually a restore operation is performed when there is a need to restore or replace a faulty system and it usually it wipes out the previous state or information.
Do the log files contain all available information including forensic files or arte they included in the backup files ?
What can we do if there is a need ( for example for forensic reasons) to load and re-play old information for further analisys ?
Is it possible to have an off line access to historical archived information ?
Thanks.
G.Depends what you mean by forensic files, the type of information you are looking to retrieve, and your PI installation (i.e. VM vs physical appliance). You can snapshot vms easily, and retain them indefinately if you have the resources. A PI appliance restore will write over the live system and require some downtime. Information contained in a PI application backup will depend upon your data rentention and logging configuration. You can also log from PI to an external syslog server, again the logging level will determine how much information is there.

How view snmp Traps CISCO PRIME 1.2
It is posible to view snmp Traps from WLC to CISCO Prime ?? How ?
Hi Steve :
I need to view the traps which are generated in the Controller, I need to view that in the Cisco Prime Infractructure. I´ve configured Communities in WLC with IP Address to Cisco Prime and Trap Receiver with IP address to Cisco Prime.
Now, How can I view these Traps in the Cisco Prime ?.
Another question , Is it posible to configure Switch from Cisco Prime ?
Thanks,

SNMP TRAP ON Secondary WLC 5508
Hi I'm Louis,
I work on 2 WLC 5508 with version 7.4 and Prime Infrastructure 1.3
We have activate AP SSO to work with a primary and secondary controller.
We have added the controller to Prime infrastructure and activated SNMP.
We receive correctly the alarms on Prime.
But when we work on Primary WLC, and the secondary crash we haven't got information about that. No SNMP received.
That is normal ?
Thx for your reply
RegardsI find this, in Monitoring and Troubleshooting the Redundancy States
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1.2/user/guide/chgdevconfig.html
On my primary controller, in SNMP => Trap Log , I can see :
RF failure notification ErrorType: 34 Reason :Lost Peer, Moving to Active-No-Peer State! => When I unplug RP link
RF progress notification unitId: -1407319963 peerUnitId :14 unitState: -1407319863 peerUnitState :5
RF progress notification unitId: -1407319963 peerUnitId :14 unitState: -1407319863 peerUnitState :9 => When I plug the RP link.
So I can see the trap on my controller but there is nothing in Prime ... -
Cisco prime syslog functionality
Hello All,
I have added devices in cisco prime. I can see logging option in cisco prime under Administration > Logging . I have given one server IP (10.18.89.43) where I wanted logs to get saved but I am not sure whether prime is acting as a syslog server and if its really collecting those syslog. Also how do I know where its saving those logs on server. (See attached image)
Please help me with exact configuration. Thanks Marvin for valuable reply. I can see Prime generated syslog message for one of added switch under Inventory > Device Management > Network Audit.
But it was just one message as follows:
Syslog Message<189>92196: Apr 21 17:33:55: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by 5588648 on vty0 (10.18.83.170)
How do I configure Prime so i can increase buffer for these messages. -
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 SNMP Traps are not converted into Alarms
Hi everybody,
I just configured SNMP Traps on a Cisco Catalyst 3750-x to send to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 Appliance.
Now I forced the Switch to send some traps (Power off a Power Supply, Interface errdisable). The only events I see in Alarms & Events on PI is the same information message everytime:
Configuration management event has been recorded in ccmHistoryEventTable.
I think the forced traps should be converted into alarms? Why can't I see them?
Thanks,
MarcOk, I started debugging as you said. I get the following output:
Mar 13 09:28:13.711: SNMP: V2 Trap, reqid 11689, errstat 0, erridx 0
sysUpTime.0 = 198609846
snmpTrapOID.0 = ciscoSyslogMIB.2.0.1
clogHistoryEntry.2.1688 = PM
clogHistoryEntry.3.1688 = 5
clogHistoryEntry.4.1688 = ERR_RECOVER
clogHistoryEntry.5.1688 = Attempting to recover from bpduguard err-disable state on Gi1/0/13
clogHistoryEntry.6.1688 = 198609844
Mar 13 09:28:13.737: SNMP: Queuing packet to xx.xx.xx.xx
Looks like the Switch is sending SNMP Traps from the ciscoSyslogMIB. Is this why PI can't show the Traps and convert it into a alarm?
After this test I configured logging (syslog) to the PI. Now the errors are showed but still not converted into alarms. I just want to be notified by email when such errors occurs.
Thanks,

Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - Fan-Failure SNMP-Trap Issue
Hello,
I am facing the following Prime Infrastructure (v2.1) issue:
- A Fan-Failure SNMP-Trap from a Cisco 3650 switch doesn't appear on Prime, but a Link-Failure from the same switch does.
- The both events appears on Prime with Syslog.
- The command "snmp-server enable traps envmon fan shutdown supply temperature status" is set up.
- The switch is in "Managed" state in PI, I have checked the ACL at the "snmp-server community" command, it is okay.
- I have set up an SNMP-Trace for the switch on PI, but only "SNMP Null was returned for class com.cisco.server.managedobjects.bridge.Fan3KStats attribute fanIndex" arrived. Please find the log below.

It seems like PI and the switch doesn't understand each other concerning the fan...
Thanks for any ideas, comments and feedbacks,
CsabaI have the very same problem.
The switch has a power supply error (one of the two is down). There is the syslog message in PI about it, but no event has created, so nor alarm is there as well.
When I check the status of the switch in the Device Work Center, and choose the Environment in Device Details I can see that PI has not realized the power supply error.
However when I click on the Sync for this very device the power supply status is updated, but still no event or alarm.
This is the case with the FANs as well. -
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 - no traps/info are pushed from devices

JeremyHi Jeremy,
SNMP traps are shown in the events and alerts section of PI.
SNMP config looks fine. Can you run the SNMP debug (debug snmp packets ) .check the logs and see if the device is actually sending the TRAPS to the PI server.
Thanks-

SNMP on CAPWAP via WCS or Cisco Prime
We are interested in adding SNMP settings to all of our CAPWAP wireless access points. There is no way to do this via any of our controllers or WCS. We are soon to upgrade to Cisco Prime.
I am able to log in via telnet to a 3502 and manually enter SNMP commands, however I can't save the running config to NVRAM. I can save the running config to flash, but can't change the config register to look at flash for the config on startup.
Is there a way to configure and save SNMP parameters on CAPWAP wireless access points? The referenced document states that SNMP management is available. However, The SNMP settings on a controller (5508 as an example) allows for traps on the controller itself and not on the CAPWAPs.
We have an inventory management system that we want to import our CAPWAPs. There are over 2500 so manually imputing the CAPWAPs can be a tedious task. The management system uses SNMP to discover said info. All of the controllers are already cataloged. -
I have a Cisco 4404 WLC that sends its system logs to a syslog server (kiwicat), but I'm interested in getting the snmp traps sent over there as well. I've configured the syslog server to accept the snmp on the right ports and I've confirmed that the syslog server can receive then by sending traps manually from other devices.
I cannot seem to actually get the WLC to send the traps to the server. the syslog stuff gets through ok, but not the snmp. I've added the syslog server as an SNMP trap reciever and configured it as much as it needs to be and the only difference it seems to have made is to add more things to the main trap log on the 'monitor' tab on the WLC. Am i missing something really basic?
p.s. the WLC and the syslog server are separated by a firewall, but the syslog rules have been altered to also allow the snmp, should it attempt to go through.
Any help would be gratefully received.Yes, I think the Network Devices need to be discovered first in order to receive traps and generate alerts.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1: SNMP Connectivity Failed
Hi,
I have discharged all my Cisco devices within Cisco Prime and after a few days and when everything worked correctly one of the switches is displayed with the SNMP error Connectivity Failed, nothing has been changed.
I deleted and i have returned to create the object but it continues to be the same, I've also tried to create another SNMP community still receiving the same error.

Best regards.Hi ,
check if you are getting these errors in "show log" again:
%SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input queue full
If yes , then either a lot of SNMP polling happening on the device
or
CPU utilization is going high sometime , being SNMP as a least priority process , you will see this issue. check for "show proc cpu history"
It is a device side issue definitely.
I would suggest to apply a Access-list on the SNMP community string allowing only the
valid NMS to poll the device
Thanks-
Afroz

SNMP trap on OutOfMemory Error Log record
I would like to implement SNMP trap on OutOfMemory Error Log record.
In theory SNMP LogFilter with Severity Level "Error" and Message Substring "OutOfMemory" should do the trick.
In reality it does not work (doh)(see explanations below), I wonder if someone managed to make it work.
Log entry has following format:
----------- entry begin ----------
####<Nov 12, 2003 3:09:23 PM EST> <Error> <HTTP> <ustrwd2021> <local> <ExecuteThread: '14' for queue: 'default'> <> <> <101020> <[WebAppServletContext(747136,logs2,/logs2)] Servlet failed with Exception>
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
<<no stack trace available>>
------------ entry end ------------
Notice that java.lang.... is NOT part of the log record, yep it seems that exception stack trace is not part of log record! Thus filter could be applied only to "<[WebAppServletContext(747136,logs2,/logs2)] Servlet failed with Exception>" string, which is really useless.
Here is fragment of trap data (i had to remove Message Substring in order to get Error trap to work)
1.3.6.1.4.1.140.625.100.50: trapLogMessage: [WebAppServletContext(747136,logs2,/logs2)] Servlet failed with ExceptionAndriy,
I dont think you could do much here, since Outofmemory is not part of
log record SNMP agent cannot filter on this. I would be curious to hear
if anyone got it to work using SNMP.
sorry,
