  • Cisco Router 1841,2911

If I understand your question correctly; no, there are no IPs configured by default.

  • Configure ATM on cisco router 1841 for PPPoE

    Hi Geeks,
I have searched the net with answers but still no success to achieving what I needed.
My scenario, I 'am replacing  my Netcom with a cisco 1841 router. Now, I need advise or better guided steps on how to configure my ATM interface for PPPoE to connect to my ISP network. With the netcom its easy since its uses GUI  and connection picks up automatically as long username and password are correct to connect to ISP.
    Appreciate any help here?
    Thank you.

from the sounds of it you purchased a '4 port WAN Interface Card' to be put into your router.
(the HWIC4 cannot be used to create a 'DMZ' as you require; you will need additional Ethernet interfaces, not WAN interfaces)
    a few things first...
    1) yes you have increased the routers ability to serve more than one network. with an HWIC4, you can configure upto 4 more WAN segments that the router can route for.
    2) if you had a 4 port Ethernet Card, then you could configure each interface to act like a DMZ, but without proper security in place, it will not be much more than a 'hop' from one network to another.
NOTE: you need to build very detailed, granular access lists to filter traffic if you wish to have any chance of provding the slightest amount of security to your inside users & hosts.
(a firewall will provide you better security control and DMZ definition and is a recommended best practice for the solution you're looking for)
your DMZ definition says it all, "...subnet between a trusted network and an untrusted network..."
firewalls inherently provide a 'trusted' interface, an 'untrusted' interface and one or more 'less than trusted' or DMZ interfaces.
routers do not inherently provide this type of security segregation. you should be using a firewall to provide your solution and security in this case.

  • Vlan routing with cisco router and linksys switch

I have a linksys switch width vlan configured, connected to a Cisco router (1841), but I cant route between vlan’s.
    Please help me!!
It Works with a Cisco switch perfectly(with the same ip and vlan).

Yes. the linksys switch (SRW2024 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch) supports trunking.
If you want you can visit the link and see that the switch supports vlan, dot1q and trunking.

  • Does cisco router support "tcp reset" mesg when the traffic blocked by access lit ?

    hi ,
im trying to know if i  blocked a destination with an access list on cisco.
can i make "tcp-rest " to that connection instead on dropping it ??
i belive it supported on ASA appliance , but not sure if supported on cisco routers.
im trying to migrate from linux router to cisco router and apply the same config , one of the challenging task is , i have
    "reject-with=tcp-reset"
im wondering if i can do it on cisco router
    waiting ur responce
    regards

One of the things that keeps me engaged with these forums is that they challenge me and give me opportunities to learn new things. My initial reaction to your question about IPS on IOS router was to say that this is not supported. But I did some research and find that apparently IPS functionality is now supported on some (but not all) of Cisco IOS routers. See this link for additional detail:

hello - I have just moved your post to the Topic forums - you had posted your question in an obscure non-visible promotional community  Hopefully our community users will see your question now.

  • Can cisco router support OSPF-TE and ISIS-TE same time for CSPF to compute a TE LSP? I may need to run both IGP in parallel

Can cisco router support OSPF-TE and ISIS-TE same time for CSPF to compute a TE LSP? I may need to run both IGP in parallel.

    Hi Johnny,
Per my understanding you can. It is equivalent to running 2 IGP and installing the entry in RIB table based on administrative distance.

  • Do Cisco router 2811 and Catalyst 3750 support SNMPv3?

    Hi,
Do Cisco router 2811, IOS 12.4(20)Ti, and Catalyst 3750, IOS 12.2.(53)SE, support SNMPv3?
Attached file contains my SNMPv3 configurations and "show snmp" results.  Would you please give me your advice?  Thanks.
    Hugh

    Hugh
Certainly both the 2811 and the 3750 do support SNMPv3. So support for the feature is not an issue in your situation.
I have looked at the config that you attached and believe that it looks reasonable. You have not told us about the SNMP server that will communicate with these devices. So we have no way to know if the details of the configuration are correct.
Have you attempted to discover these devices with an SNMP server that is configured to use SNMPv3 and has this user and passwords configured? If it does not work my first suggestion would be to check to verify that the passwords configured are exactly the same on the clients and on the server (and perhaps re-configure the passwords just to be sure). If the passwords are not a problem my second suggestion would be to check and verify that the authentication and encryption parameters match between the server and the clients.

  • Cisco Router support 24 E1 (Ethernet port)

    Hi
I use E1/Ethernet conveter 8 port for my internet link and want to replace this converter by cisco router support 24 E1(ethernet port).
could you please suggest  for me wich router model can I use for this?

    thanks Leo for your answer
I have the E1s separated, now i have 24 E1 so I will need 24 port Ethernet to terminate all my 24 E1s, at total now the total sppeed is 48 Mbps, but  I plan to expend this capacity later to 100 Mbps, thats way I tald you the total capacity is 100 Mbps.
can we have 24 port Ethernet for this router model and in witch module? thank you in advance.

  • Problem with gateway voice in router 1841 or 1760

Reading Cisco documentation , I see that router 1841 and 1841 does not support as Voice Gateway.
My idea is to connect to him a Primary ISDN (30 channel B) so that it works like a PBX and users can make calls towards PSTN.
Is possible to do this with these routers (1841, 1760)?

  • Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router

    Dear All
Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
    Hub -- Juniper SRX
Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.
    Thanks
    YK

    Hello YK,
On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
    hostname(config)# management access management_interface
where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
You can define only one management-access interface
Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
      SSH
    - ssh 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
    - Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
*crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
    Telnet
    - telnet 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL
Afterwards, if this works you can define the subnets that should be permitted.
    On the router:
!--- Step 1: Configure the hostname if you have not previously done so.
    hostname Router
!--- aaa new-model causes the local username and password on the router
!--- to be used in the absence of other AAA statements.
    aaa new-model
    username cisco password 0 cisco
!--- Step 2: Configure the router's DNS domain.
    ip domain-name yourdomain.com
!--- Step 3: Generate an SSH key to be used with SSH.
    crypto key generate rsa
    ip ssh time-out 60
    ip ssh authentication-retries 3
!--- Step 4: By default the vtys' transport is Telnet. In this case,
!--- Telnet and SSH is supported with transport input all
    line vty 0 4
    transport input All
*!--- Instead of aaa new-model, the login local command may be used.
    no aaa new-model
    line vty 0 4
      login local
Let me know how it works out!

  • How do I identify the ports to open on my cisco router from Rogers to allow access through my apple tv - I am not using wireless!

I only have spotty access at best through m Apple TV to itunes, netflix and utube.  I am  Rogers subscriber (feel my pain) and am now using their CISCO DCP3825 router.  Apple TV purchased this past Christmas.  I am not using wireless. No issues prior to replacing my old router and Rogers modem to go to DCP3825.
Apple TV is up to date - updated by connecting to my Macbook Pro.
Rogers tech support was of no help - suggested I open some ports - where do I go for the list(s)?

When you launch IME are you prompted for a password, is that failing on the password entry or does it simply fail to connect to the device?
I have not been able to access my NME via https either, I get a Java error, but I pretty much always use Cisco IME to access my NME module so I have not chased down the Java issue.

Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?
    Flow would be
Cable modem---->cisco e2000 wifi router (This is broadcasting wifi but not strong enough)---->4 port hub ---->airport express (to extend the wifi in another part of house)
    thanks!

Yes, you can do this as you stated. In essence you will want to configure both routers for roaming network. Please check out the following Apple Support article that describes this type of network. Although this article uses two or more AirPorts, it can be done with just about any manufacturer's router.
