Cisco RV016 dropping company POP3 connections

I am getting crazy with our Cisco Linksys RV016. It handles 3 simultaneous connections to the internet using 3 ISP.
All  our company goes to the internet using this cisco linksys RV016, our  corporate switches are connected as clients to the router.
Sometime  ago, this router started to drop POP3 connections to our network, when  this problems is present, all users get Receiving' reported error  (0x80042108) in Outlook 2007-2010.
Currently i have setup POP3  service to use the First ISP connection, but when this problem is  present, the only way to eventually resolve it is to switch the link  POP3 Service from the First to the Third ISP, sometimes it works  immediately, sometimes don't.
We are using this router since 2007 but this problems started to arise from this month.
Our switch is the latest firmware available is Cisco website, this is the Firmware Version: 3.0.2.01-tm.
any tip, suggestion, will be really appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Sergio.

This issue is getting more strange behaviour. Since Monday, it occurs between 4.30pm and 5.00pm and after about 30  minutes it goes away without my intervention.
Is it the CISCO RV016 throughput maybe ?
Is it because i use Intelligent  Balancer (Auto Mode) on all my 3 WANs? Should i use IP Group by Users instead?
Thanks,
throughput

  • Cisco RV016 making connections drop

    Hi,
My cisco rv016 is currently set to load balance 2 lines and soon 3.
However some connections that are active here are with servers and FTP clients.
With load balancing active it appears that people are getting their sessions timed out rather frequently.
    MySQL database connections
    SSH connections
FTP, SFTP connections are the ones that spring to mine straight away.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

Right now I'm testing on a single access point (autonomous) with WEP! The same laptop works fine without the Cisco client. Usually it is several hours, 12 or more when it happens, but I've seen it less than that. And I've seen it up for over a day and a half. At this point I just don't trust the client to roll out to a larger audience.

  • Imac 10.7.5 drops all network connections

I am using an iMac 10.7.5 that has started to drop the network connection (both ethernet and wireless). Using in a corporate environment on a Cisco switch. No other computers on this switch losing their connections. Have an Mac Book Pro that can connect on the same switch without a problem. I have deleted preferences and restarted but it still drops. Will last about 30 minutes then it drops. The only way to restore it is to restart. Have repaired permissions ad nauseum. Tried booting to recovery (Command-R on startup) but it just goes to my login screen. Trying not to reinstall OS but may have to. Any other suggestions?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Cisco RV016 not so Intelligent Balancer

    Hi All,
We have a problem with our Cisco RV016 Routers (we have 12 of them).
Somehow the routers keep switching randomly between internet connections. (2-3 connections per router)
We want to completely disable load balancing and just use the 2nd to 3th internet connection as a failover (when 1st connection is down)
Load balancing breaks the clients session because the ip's switch mid session.
Does anyone have a solution to the problem?
We can't deploy them like this and our distributor does not want to take the unopened boxes with routers back.
    We use:
    Firmware Version : v4.2.2.08 (Apr 26 2013 19:12:26)
    Regards,

    Hi Wouter,
We had the same issue. What I did is create a rule in [System Management] - [Dual WAN] - [WAN 1 --> configuration].
The following rules are in my system:
    All Traffic [TCP&UDP/1~65535]->192.168.1.1~192.168.1.254(0.0.0.0~0.0.0.0)WAN1 [Enabled]
    All Traffic [TCP&UDP/1~65535]->192.168.1.1~192.168.1.254(0.0.0.0~0.0.0.0)WAN2 [Enabled]
    The rest of the settings:
    Enable Network Service Detection: Yes
    Retry count: 5
    Retry timeout: 30 seconds
When Fail: Keep the system log and remove the connection
Only [Remote Host] checked with value 8.8.8.8
Especially the setting with the remote host set to 8.8.8.8 is important.
Of course it's possible to set this to the IP address of the modem, but this only works if the complete modem is switched off. To failover when the internet connection is down, setting it to 8.8.8.8 works.
    Hope this helps you.

  • AP541N-E-K9 keeps dropping all WLAN connections

I hope someone could shed some light on an issue we have with our AP541N-E-K9 on the latest firmware.
Our issue sounds similar to this thread:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2028334
Our AP541N-E-K9 keeps dropping all WLAN connections and will not allow us to connect via WIFI. I have to switch the unit off and on but even so sometimes it will take 10 mins for the WLAN to accept new connections. Nothing has changed on the network for months as it is a very basic scenario ie Draytek DSL Router -> Cat5e cable -> AP541N-E-K9, thats it! The AP is really only used for guest access and may have about 15 staff connected via WIFI at any one time.
    Thanks

    Hi Alena,
I've changed the access point to use channel 1 which seemed to work for about 5 mins and then all wireless devices have dropped off and the even log keeps showing:

  • E1200 - drop the internet connection

I previously owned a wrt54g G router and had that for many years before it finally died. I wanted to stick with Cisco since the last one lasted so long and never gave me any issues. I bought the 1200 and setup was pretty simple as the user interface was the same. The first issue I had was that the router would drop the internet connection and I would have to disconnect the ethernet line from the router and plug it into my ps3 or other device to get the modem to activate the internet again. Somehow the router will not grab a signal once it is lost. Reseting the router will not work or will unplugging it. This has happened about 3 times already in about 2 weeks. My home is about 3000 sq ft and although the signal in my office used to be at 2 bars with the G router I now have 3 bars so not that big of a range difference with the N router. I will be returning this and switching to a Belkin to try out.

There are many reasons why you experience poor signal or connection. Your intermittent wireless connection has a relation to the kind of setup that you have in your home or office. Is the connection dropping on all wireless computers or just one?
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
These settings would have surly helped you...

  • Cisco wrt54g2 drops ip assigned by Motorola modem

For some reason, a couple of days from today, my Cisco wrt54g2 drops ip assigned by Motorola modem.
It gets it back after a while (10 mins) and works for another 15 minutes.
The firmware is uptodste, I just upgraded it today.
What could be causing this behavior?

Well all of a sudden it stopped doing it SO OFTEN.  Its still does it but every 3 or 5 hours or so.
Now the weird thing is that the devices dont hold on to the password for some reason.  I have 2 ipads and 2 iphones and i have to input the 26digit hex key everytime we come home and want to connect.  My macbook air seems to hold on to the password just fine though.
I just changed the cable.  But as I said, Im not sure yet if that fixes the problem because now I get internet pretty much all night from the moment i come home from the office til i fall asleep and thru next morning, and just have to release/renew dhcp lease when i come back home the next day.  So Ill know tomorrow.  Ill post back.

  • E4200 connection dropped once homeplug connected

    HI,
I just installed a E4200, and found that once I connected my Homeplug Powerline to E4200, the connected (wired / wireless) computer (with E4200) connection will be dropped.  The connection become normal again once I disconnected the Homeplug with E4200.
Here is the error description from Cisco Connect: An HNAP call to the device failed because the HTTP connection was broken.
Does someone know what is going on? I will appreciate any comments & replies.
    Many thanks!

There might be some settings required in the router so that it gets the proper solution. If you are facing the concern of getting lag, dropped connections then you can try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] On that same setup page reduce the MTU value to 1400 from Auto
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • MacBook Pro drops Wi-Fi connection after upgrading to 10.6.5. Fixed!

MacBook Pro drops Wi-Fi connection after upgrading to 10.6.5. Airport says no IP is detected then suddenly reconnects?
This has been a problem I’ve been troubleshooting for the last month. I’m new to the Mac family and have loved my experience up until this point. I was under the impression that mac’s are supposed to be so user friendly that even your grandmother could use one with out having any technical knowledge. I mean I shouldn’t have to be deleting drivers or reformat my mac because of an OS update glitch? (That’s what the guy at the Genius Bar told me to do.) What I refused to succumb to was that I’m really good with computers. I get at least a phone call every other week from someone asking me for tech support. So I’d like to think that nothing I’ve done to the system would have caused this anomaly.
After numerous attempts of troubleshooting and researching forms I believe I’ve discovered a solutions that seems to be working for me.
Here are the steps I took to create a consistent connection to my Wi-Fi. I believe it was a combination of all these steps to create success.
1.) Changed my router to use G Wireless Only. (I’m assuming this removed any unnecessary frequencies to allow G to broadcast stronger?)
2.) Did a scan on the other networks in my area to find out what channel everyone else was broadcasting on. Copy and past the text below into a terminal window.
    sudo ln -s /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resourc es/airport /usr/sbin/airport
This will allow you to simply type “airport” in the terminal window to execute the command.
    Type airport –s
This will display all the networks in your area and what channel they are broadcasting on.
3.) Changed my router to use a channel that no one in my area was using. (This helped to make my network stronger and free of interference.)
The last steps will help your home network improve but these next steps I believe helped fix any install errors caused maybe by the 10.6.5 update on my mac.
4.) Boot your Mac into safe mode by holding down the shift key while booting.
5.) Open System Preferences and Click on Network.
6.) Click the drop down menu from Locations at the top of the screen. Click edit locations..
7.) Create a new location by clicking the + and give it a new name.
8.) Delete the old location by clicking on the old locations name and click the – to remove.
    9.) Reboot
10.) Open System Preference and click on Network.
11.) Click on the settings sprocket next to the + and – and click on Set Service Order…
12.) Drag Airport to the top of the list of devices then click Ok.
Now this last step is what seemed to eliminate the issue. I hardcoded my IP address to my network. This way my computer will always use the same IP and not have to search.
13.) Click on Advanced under Network.
14.) Click on TCP/IP. Click on the drop down for Configure IPv4 and change it to Manually.
15.) Fill out the fields with your IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.1xx (x=whatever number) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.1.1 (All of these settings are pretty standard for most home networks.)
16.) Click on the drop down for Configure IPv6 and change it to Off.
17.) Next click on the DNS tab at the top.
18.) Click the + to add a DNS Record.
To find your DNS Server open a Terminal window by launching Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal
    Then Type cat /etc/resolv.conf
(There is a space between cat and /. Without it you’ll get no such file or directory.)
This should return two addresses. Your ISP’s DNS Servers.
19.) Add both records to the DNS and click Ok.
20.) Click Ok then under Network Click Ok.
    21.) Reboot router then Mac
    22.) Fixed my connection issue
The symptoms I experienced eluded me to believe that something with the DHCP is going into an idle then disconnecting. Before when DHCP was set to automatically assign the network signal would time out then searchers for a new IP resulting in Airport displaying No IP is detected. By setting my IP to a fixed address I still notice a slight drop in bandwidth at moments but because of the assigned IP I never loose connection. I can now stream video, play games, chat all without getting disconnected.
I believe this fix will work for my home network but I also noticed this issue at work so for each location that I connect for the time being I’ll create each there own location and hardcode the IP address to that network. I’ve been reading that 10.6.6 is coming soon so maybe this will be resolved for good in the next update.
Let me know if this helps or if you have any questions.
    Best of luck.

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

  • My LaCie external hard drive connected to Time Machine for data backup drops it's connection and a error message displays tell me that I did not properly disconnect the device.  This started after upgrading to OSX10.6.7.

My La Cie external hard drive drops it's connection after mounting on my iMac computer.  This problem seems to have started after upgrading to OSX10.6.7.  When I turn on my computer and than turn on the external hard drive the hard drive mounts to my disk top without any problem, but when I bring up Mail or Safari the hard drive drops its connection.  Is there a fix for this problem?  Hope someone can help.

The connection to 10.6.7 may just be a coincidence.  I had a similar problem with a disk and was about to throw it out but decided to try a different USB cable.  That fixed the problem and the drive is still in use.
Try a new cable if you have not already done so.

  • Problem to open ports in Cisco RV016

    Hello everyone,
I have a Cisco RV016 router, with some ports configured in "Setup --> UPnP". Currently I have problems to configure new ports. I can create the service in "Service Management", but when I add this service to the list, I press "Save" and the router close the session. I need to re-login the router, and it don't save the changes.
However, if I add a service that was already exists before having this problems, the router save the changes (But the router close the session too).
The router has the last version of firmware since the first run.
Anyone has the same problem? Or how to solve it?
    Thanks and regards

    Hello,
Yes, I tried with different computers and different browsers (Firefox and Internet Explorer). I contact with Cisco Support and their solution is reset the router to factory settings, and configure manually all the options. Is possible that the configuration files are corrupted.
I can't reset it now, when I do I will tell you the result.

  • 3rd gen atv drop wifi Internet connection?

Why does my new 3rd gen atv drop wifi Internet connection? 2nd gen in bedroom works fine

    Hi Gvegastiger,
The problem might be just with your iMac, so I will suggest you to check your firewall on your iMac, and if it is on make sure you are allowing incoming traffic in the area you need to work with...
Second I would check the Proxy settings on your iMac as well under Network profile. Also for troubleshooting purposes leave the IP address DHCP if you have it set static. And Under Network/Ethernet make sure you have it set "Automatically"
Third make sure you use ether Wireless or just Wired connection, not both. I don't know your network layout but if you have to separate networks that will be a problem when you have both of them enabled on separate networks.
Let me know if this helps,
    Goran
