Cisco RV180 VLAN tagging WAN interface

Is there by any chance in the future firmware update that this product (RV180) will be able to support VLAN tagging on WAN interface like the Cisco's RV315W router? ISP in Singapore (Singtel) and Malaysia(Unifi) (http://klseet.com/index.php/mikrotik/mikrotik-rb750-750g/setup-for-unifi) requires certain type of vlan tagging on the WAN interface for it to work.
Is there any workaround to this?

I tried with only two vlans and set the DHCP active only for the office "vlan2". Computers receive the correct ip but some of them won't register on the network, i tried to set the ip manualy on the computers but that computer will still be isolated.
Ex: computer A receives ip 192.168.10.25, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.10.1, for 2-3 minutes i can access the router on 192.168.10.1 and the internet, after a random time interval the gateway won't even respond to ping. It's not from firewall related issues as i set to accept all both incoming and outgoing. If i set a manual ip corresponding to vlan1 "default" everything works. It's like that computer is isolated so i believe it has to do with the asignment of Tagged, untagged and Excluded settings on the vlans.

  • WRVS4400n v1.1 VLAN on WAN interface

    Hi,
Been trying to figure out howto create VLAN's on the WAN interface of the WRVS4400n. Is this even possible with the factory firmware?

    Dear Steve,
    Thank you for your reply.
The router already has the lastest firmware, 1.1.13
The situation is as follows. Our office gets several services over fiber which is switched to coper over an end node (not protocol just light <-> electric) so essentially we are connected to the internet over ethernet.
Anyway, our provider is rather mysterious over how their services work and preffer that everybody uses the equipment provided by them. The equipment is rather cheap and limited in functionality, also we're having a few problems because the equipment doesn't allow us to switch certain functions off.
We get 3 services from our provider.
    1. Internet (VLAN tagged 12)
    2. VPN like closed connection between locations (VLAN's tagged 123 and tagged 124)
    3. SIP (VLAN untagged 13)
So I did A little investigation and came up with the following.
    * For internet services they're using a PPPoE tunnel, this tunnel is established over a tagged VLAN 12.
    * VLAN's 123 and 124 are for ourselves, so just connection between our offices. I don't know what the infrastructure/setup is behind this service but it somehow magically works.
    * Then finally there's the SIP services which is done over VLAN 13 untagged.
So what I need todo is create a PPPoE tunnel over VLAN 12 (for internet access) and also setup VLAN's 13, 123 an 124 to be forwarded to specific ports on the the router.
    /edit:
When I look at the settings in the web interface I only get the VLAN settings for ports 1 to 4 and WLAN (no port 0). I'm pretty sure this router does support it and I could set it if I had a shell on the device but I don't and I'm not seeing it in the webinterface either.

  • Transport dot1q vlan tagging over wan link

    Hi,
I would like to transport 802.1Q vlan tagging over a wan link, is it possible ?
    I heard about l2tp V3...
    Best regards

    Hi,
You would have to use a technology such as Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) or VPLS. This technology is referred to as Layer 2 VPNs. You can get more info on this at the following locations:
EoMPLS (part of the Cisco Any Transport over ATM suite):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6646/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
    VPLS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6648/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • RV180 DHCP IPv4 client working on WAN interface?

    Hi,
Does the Cisco RV180 firewall/router support DHCP client on the WAN interface? This is specifically mentioned on the DHCPv6 client, however, it is not mentioned for the IPv4 client. I'd like to set it up using my cable modem in bridged mode connecting it to the WAN interface on the RV180? So I'd get the IP address from my ISP.
    Thanks,
    Niels
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Hello Niels,
The RV180W certainly can pick up a DHCP address from your ISP on the WAN interface, through a bridged modem. In fact, this is the default configuration. Of course, you can also change your connection type to a static IP address or PPPoE connection profile (DSL).
All of our Small Business routers are definately capable of this confiugartion. Personally, I currently use a RV180W with a cable connection. The RV180W picked up the public IP address from my ISP just fine.
    All the best,

  • RVS4000 WAN VLAN tagging.

I have upgraded this device to Firmware Version: V2.0.2.7 (yes its a v2)
As far as I can see it is missing a critical function; I can not put a tagged VLAN on the wan interface. I intended to use this in router mode with a static wan and all firewalling disabled as my CPE equipment on a 100mbit metro-e.
The provider requires the traffic be tagged on the CPE side. I did not want to use a low end dd-wrt device (who's gui only supports upto vlan 15 but you can define higher by hand) as it is not "standard" and supported. I like to provide clean solutions that can be maintained by persons other then myself if needed.
Is there any way to access the CLI on these small business routers and accomplish this by hand?
    Thank you.
    Don

As you can read above, I'm having problems with my IPTV pixelation/cuts... I need to be able to connect directly to the fiber and have more control over the connection, but I don't see the option on the web admin for PPPOE over VLAN. I don't know if it's a hardware limitation or just software (the GUI).

  • 802.1Q VLAN Tagging on DSL WAN Connection

    Hi
Does anybody know if SRP527W supports 802.1Q VLAN tagging on DSL WAN connection for RFC1483 bridged connections?
    Thanks
    Justin

    Hi Justin,
Sorry for the delay in responding.  Yes, this feature is now supported by the SRP527W using the MR3 release.  (Please see https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-13853).

  • Cisco SG 300-10 VLAN and IP Interface Question

    Hello,
Please forgive me if you find my question too basic. But, I would really appreciate an answer as I am having a heck of a time getting the VLANs to work. I have several VLANs configured as follows, but, my question is related only two VLANS: VLAN 104 and VLAN 2000. Followings are the screenshots.  I have connected cable from Port 6 of the switch to the NIC2 of Windows 8.1 PC. When I use GE6 as access port for VLAN 104, I am able to ping to the NIC2 configured with static IP 10.10.30.30. However, when use GE as Trunk Port for VLAN 104 and 2000, I am not able to ping the NIC2 configured with static IP 10.10.30.30 or static IP 10.10.110.30. I am using the ping utility from the GUI.
If there is a better way to test the trunk port, please let me know.
At this point, I am assuming that something is wrong with my configuration as the NIC2 is unable to receive IP address.
The other assumption is that NICs with Windows 8.1 OS does not accept Traffic from Tagged VLANS.

Tom and Michal, your response is much appreciated. You are 100% right. The issue was with the Windows recognizing the VLAN tags. I have tested trunking by using the vmxnet3 driver from VMware and it works.
I had another question where I can use your help too. I am not sure how to connect two Cisco SG300 switches - one with L3 mode and the second one with L2 mode. I have configured GVRP for Port 5 of both switches and run a cable connecting to Port 5 of each switch. I have made port 5 of both switches trunk mode ( 1U, 1000T). I have created VLAN 1000 on both switches. With L3 switch, I have added IP Interface (192.168.100.1) to VLAN 1000. My issues is that, I am not able to access the management port (192.168.1.238) of the L2 switch. Note that the L2 switch has only on uplink, which is to the L3 switch. Since the Port 5 also receives untagged traffic from VLAN1 (192.168.1.1), I am assuming that it would receive the management network from VLAN1.

  • Jumpstarting changes with U6:  VLAN tagged interfaces and sysidcfg

    Hello,
I've been banging my head on U6 for a few days and finally have to give up and cry for help. I can no longer build a jumpstarted server which ends up on a separate VLAN tagged LAN after first reboot.
I have an existing U5 SPARC jumpstart environment setup. We use VLAN tagging a lot in our environments and by default the only time a non VLAN tagged interface is used is during jumpstart. With the existing jumpstart we are using the following profiles:
    root_password=mypassword
    security_policy=NONE
    timezone=GB
    timeserver=localhost
    terminal=vt100
    network_interface=none {hostname=hostname}
    system_locale=en_GB
    name_service=NONE
system_locale=CIn the U5 profile we let the jumpstart server obtain its network configuration via DHCP and then obtain the profile above, which excludes all network settings. All the network settings were added as part of a finish script. This worked fine with U5. As far as I can see, with U6 at the point where the sysidcfg is first evaluated it removes the network settings and obviously then kills the jumpstart. So I have had to try a different approach. I have tried both of the following:
    network_interface=PRIMARY { default_route=none protocol_ipv6=no}
network_interface=PRIMARY { dhcp default_route=none protocol_ipv6=no}However, using either of these causes the ce0, bge0 or whatever to remain defined, instead of the ce200000 and ce206000 interfaces that I have explcitly defined in hostname.ce200000 separately. I also get a number of arp errors on initial reboot, such as
Nov 20 20:27:29 unknown ip: ip_arp_done: init failed
Nov 20 20:27:29 unknown /sbin/dhcpagent[44]: configure_v4_lease: cannot set interface flags for ce0: Cannot assign requested addressI don't know if I am barking up the wrong tree but I believe I need to get the server on initial boot (or during finish) to reevaluate a different sysidcfg file. Alternatively, it might need some combination of presence/absence of /reconfigure or /etc/.UNCONFIGURED. I think I might also need to stop /sbin/netstrategy return dhcp specific results (I only use DHCP for jumpstart booting and not for normal boot), but I have no idea how to do that...
    # /sbin/netstrategy
ufs ce0 dhcpAny help much appreciated!
    thanks
    Paul

    Paul,
I don't want to suggest that I understand your problem but have you seen the comments about tagged vlans on the Opensolaris LDoms forum?
Near the bottom of thread [Solaris 10 10/08 (update 6)|http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=81505&tstart=0] there is some discussion of tagged vlan support changes with U6.
It sounds like tagged vlans are going to be a problem with U6.
    have a good weekend,

  • RV Support VLAN Tagging on WAN Port?

    Hi,
I'd like to know if RV Series Router can support VLAN tagging on the WAN port itself? I need this cause my ISP using such method to connect to end user modem/router.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Danny

Anything available other than this RV315W?  That model is only 10/100 on the LAN.  VLAN on the WAN is fairly standard for fibre installs and should be a feature across all SMB routers.

  • RV320 and WAN VLAN tagging/IPTV

I have a fiber connection on WAN1 which only works with VLAN tagging and I can't find a way to make it work without the provider's middleware router (Comtrend C5813)... Is there a way to connect to my FTTH (Lucent I240G-B) router directly? I'm having problems with my IPTV (multicast) service, if it's connect direct to the middleware I can have multiple channels running at once, but if I go back to the RV320 and do the same, everything start to pixelate.
Using Wireshark I can see that the RV320 is connecting to the different channels with CS4 DSCP marking.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

As you can read above, I'm having problems with my IPTV pixelation/cuts... I need to be able to connect directly to the fiber and have more control over the connection, but I don't see the option on the web admin for PPPOE over VLAN. I don't know if it's a hardware limitation or just software (the GUI).

  • ISA500 tagged WAN port

    Hello,
I'm currently evaluating an ISA570W firewall.
The use case is to deploy it as an entry level firewall on FTTH internet access lines.
The ISP provides a CPE that requires internet trafic to be tagged on a specific VLAN.
I was a bit suprise when, after trying this configuration, finding out that the WAN port on the ISA500 can only be put in access mode.
Which effectively makes this device unusable.
Is there another way to set one of the ethernet interface in trunk mode and put it in the WAN zone with DHCP client enabled?
    Thanks,

so I digged a bit further and found a document from Cisco's knowledgebase that describes steps by steps instructions for the WAN port: http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=2&app=search&vw=1&articleid=3719
searching for vlan tag showed me a screen that allowed the setting of a tagged vlan on the WAN port but only available for PPPoE IP address assignement.
the VLAN tag option is not available with "DHCP Client" IP address assignement.
Is this something we could see in a future firmware release?
From what I've seen tagged vlan on the WAN port is a typical configuration requirement for FTTH services here in Switzerland.
    Thanks,

  • RV320 - vlan on Wan Port

Here in Brazil VIVO (from the spanish Telefonica group) is recently providing fiber links.
Their fiber link is being splitted into 2 vlans: one for their IPTV (vlan id 20) and another for internet (vlan id 10).
So, when they install on your house or company, they install 2 boxes: 1 ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and 1 router (which connects to the ONT and does the PPPoE auth on VLAN 10 and creates the internal VLAN for the IPTV - id20).
So, is it possible to replace their router with the RV320 and create tagged / untagged VLAns on Wan Ports and assigning ip address on each vlan (PPPoE for internet, DHCP for iptv)?
The topology is basically like this:
    [Fiber Cable]
    ONT
    [Ethernet Gigabit]
    Router
    [Ethernet / Coaxial]
    Network Devices
TVs (coaxial connection provided by 2. Router)
PCs (wireless /ethernet connection provided by 2.Router)

    Hello,
Thank you for sharing the information about the DD-WRT firmware on other devices.Unfortunately the RV320 is not capable of such a feature, it is just not designed to do that.
On the other hand we do have one unit that is capable of such configuration, it is the RV315W router.
Here is a link to the emulator for the unit so that you have an idea of its capabilities.
    http://www.cisco.com/assets/sol/sb/RV315W_Emulators/RV315W_Emulator_v1.01.03/index.asp.htm
The feature you are looking for can be configured by going to Port settings, WAN, Wan interface settings, then you can configure the desired VLANs.
I'm not sure that this device is available in Brazil. If it is not available then you may have to consider using enterprise units or other devices.
Please let us know if this is helpful.

  • 7600 second-dot1q & vlan tag manipulation

    Hi,
Does anyone know what the hardware requirements are for using config such as "sencapsulation dot1Q 660 second-dot1q 1" or any of the "service instance" commands such as below to manipulate dot1q tags?
Im running 7600 with SIP-400, IOS 12.2(33)SRD and there are no such commands available at the cli. Suspect ES-20 is needed as a minimum but can't see this mentioned in any docs.
    interface FastEthernet1/0.660
    encapsulation dot1Q 660 second-dot1q 1
    OR
    interface GigabitEthernet3/0/0
    description Sample Configs
    service instance 1 ethernet
    encapsulation untagged
rewrite ingress tag push dot1q 3 symmetric
    xconnect 10.30.30.173 2 encapsulation mpls
    service instance 10 ethernet
    encapsulation dot1q 10
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    bridge-domain 500 split-horizon
    service instance 20 ethernet
    encapsulation dot1q 20 second-dot1q 200
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    bridge-domain 500 split-horizon
    service instance 30 ethernet
    encapsulation dot1q 20 second-dot1q any
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    bridge-domain 500 split-horizon
I just need to pop the service vlan tag. At the moment I'm using a port per service to peel off the outer tag and this approach isn't going to scale.
    Appreciate any advice on this.
    Cheers
    Kent.

    Hi Jerry,
I believe - about to test it - that this only works with SPA-v2 interfaces. I was testing with a SPA-v1 interface previously. Is this your understanding? Docs are pretty light on with hardware requirements.

  • VLANs On WAN Side

I'm looking for a security device that can handle VLANs on the WAN side.
Like virtual WAN interfaces; one for each VLAN
I'm hoping something like the SA540 can do it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
SA500 today supports only vlan on LAN ports.  vlan/sub-interfaces over WAN is not supported.
You may want to check out Cisco IOS 800 router or ASA that should support what you are looking for.
On the other hand, I am interested in understanding what you are trying to accomplish with subinterface support over WAN?
i.e. sub-interface based application service provided by local ISP? or?  Feel free to send me through private message if preferred.
    Regards,
    Richard
