Cisco RV320 Load balance

Dear all,
I have 2 ADSL routers (4MB and 2MB). Can anyone advice me to can I use the RV320 for load balancing (4+2=6MB)?. Also, please advice me how the other 2 ADSL router should be setup to support for this load balancing?
Thank you,

Hello phoutsavong,
To learn more about load balancing and how to configure the WAN Interface on the RV320, you can refer to the article, Dual WAN Configuration on RV320 and RV325 VPN Router Series. This article will help you configure the WAN Interface. To start, select Load Balance in the Router configuration Utility.
I hope this helps and if you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kevin Yen

  • Cisco ACE20 Load balancing issues

    Dear All,
I have a problem with the ACE 20 load balance
To start with following is our architectural request flow:
Load Balancer --> Webseal /(reverse proxy) --> HTTP Server --> Portal Server
We have Hardware Load Balancer Cisco ACE20.
When we access our portal from Webseal server it works totally fine without any issue, but when we access the same application using ACE we face the following issues:
    1) Some of the links on do not work. For eg: We have a link "subscribe" which points to https://intranet/abc/wps/portal/subscription , whenever we click on this link, the request is directed to https://intranet/abc/wps/portal i.e homepage
    2) URL redirection does not work We have some links which have a url forwarding or redirection for example when we open https://intranet/ef/quickplace it forwards the requests to https://intranet/ef/quickplace/Main.nsf?opendocument....., but this redirection fails and again the request is thrown to homepage i.e https://intranet/abc/wps/portal
    3) The response of the request and the overall portal when accessed via ACE is very sluggish and it takes 20 seconds for homepage to load, whereas the homepage loads in 4 secs when accessed via webseal.
below is the ACE details. Kindly provide the your inputs to resolve this issue. will rate all the suggestions

  • Cisco ace Load balancer not maintaining session persistence

    Hi All,
We have observed from the IIS logs on the internal webservers that loadbalancer is not maintaining session persistence for two specific request for the internal servers.
    https://123.xyz.com/Webresource.axd
    https://123.xyz.com/ScriptResource.axd
    Error
    Webresource.axd : 500
    Scriptresource.axd: 404
Session persistence is maintained for all other requests hitting loadbalancer.
Issue is observerd on hits for these two specified components. WebResource.axd and ScriptResource.axd are Http Handlers used by ASP.NET and Ajax to add client-side scripting to the outgoing web page.
For e.g /WebResource.axd d=t2GXfySdqWmJ-lZSI0KVbw2&t=634868473645172160 is valid for server 1 and return 200 response but the same request is seen on few other servers where the response is 404 even though load balancer cookie is same. This means that if the request for the both the axd contains a valid decrypter and it connects to the right server then the response seen is 200.
The url passed by the user contains d and t parameters when are unique for each user session.
    Solution tried:
Accessed website via another VIP without http redirect rule but could not see difference.
Tried to match machine key across all servers : Failed . Could see the ‘d’ value different for each server.
    Load balancer VIP :
    x.x.x.x
    redirect: http > https
    SSL Offload : ON
    Poool:
    WEB1
    WEB2
    WEB3
    WEB4
    WEB5
All servers listening on port 80
    sticky config:
    sticky ihttp-cookie cookie1 vip-1.1.1.1-80-stickyfarm
      cookie insert browser-expire
      replicate sticky
      serverfarm vip-1.1.1.1_80
    sticky http-cookie cookie1 vip-farm:1.1.1.1:443
      cookie insert browser-expire
      replicate sticky
      serverfarm farm:1.1.1.1:443
Has anyone else come across similar issue?
Can you plese check if there is any config on cisco ace that will ensure that session persistence is maintained for these 2 requests.
Thank you for all the help.
    regards,
    Sangram

    Hello Sangram,
We would need simultanous packet traces before and after the ACE to get to the root cause of this issue so I would recommend that you open a cisco tac case for more in depth troubleshooing of this issue.

  • RV320, load balancing problem

    Hi,
How do I force the router to use WAN1 till it's saturated, and ther switch to WAN2 when needed. I've already configured the bandwidth correctly for each WAN, but it seems that some clients use WAN1, others use WAN2, disregarding the fact that they should use WAN1 as primary and the bandwidth it's not saturated by any other client.

Only from load balancing point of view cluster is not really needed.
apart from session replication and failover capabilities, few more benefits are there with clustering only if you are using a web server also.
Stuck threads can be due to lot's of problems like application issues, load issues etc, So first make sure you are getting stuck thread on both servers or only on one, if on one, then in this case your load balancing not working properly and sending more load to that server, and if you are getting stuck threads on both then try to add one more managed server.

  • CISCO Load Balancing Mechanism with SAP

    Hello Experts,
Explain me the steps How CISCO Load balancing Mechanism works with SAP Enterprise Portal?
If anyone implemented and achieved the same, please explain me the steps to follow from Initial Stage to end of implementation.
Or If you have any documentation on this just share with me to my google id kekarthick or point me to the particular link.
I have seen the below SAP help which is somewhat helpful.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/d3/e12840d89d185de10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
I would like to know how CISCO will connect to Java Dispatcher.
And explain me the steps to follow to implement External Facing Portal using Cisco Loadbalancer.
This should be achieved in Unix and Windows 2003 environment.
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    Karthick Eswaran
Edited by: Karthick Eswaran on May 21, 2008 12:40 AM

    Hello Karthick,
let's say you have 2 servers for your portal:
    host1 -> e.g. DB, SCS + CI --> http://host1.my.company:50000/irj/portal
    host2 -> DI --> http://host2.my.company:50000/irj/portal
Now you can implement an CISCO hardware load balancer. You have to connect it to your network and reserve one port and another ip adress of it for the portal.
After that you have to add the ip adress of the both servers (host1+host2) to this port, so that the CISCO load balancer knows to which servers it has to forward the incoming connections.
If you use DNS in your company you can now map a more user-friendly name to the CISCO port (e.g. http://portal.my.company:50000/irj/portal) and distribute this link to the users of the portal.
When they connect to the portal via this link the CISCO load balancer will forward the request to one of the configured servers (host1 or host2) depending which one is online and/or the load of them.
I hope I understood your question right and my answer helps a little.

  • SSL Setup in a load balanced portal

    Hi,
We are implementing a portal landscape and also we are using a hardware based (Cisco ACE) load balancer for load balancing purposes.
    So the configuration would be:
Portal requests --> Load Balancer --> Portal --> Backend
We are trying to implement SSL until the portal server and I have a question regarding the SSL certificate installation process.
The URL on the load balancer would be for example https://portaltest.mycompany.com which would load balance the requests between the application servers of the portal (https://sapeptest1.mycompany.com:50001/irj/portal and https://sapeptest2.mycompany.com:50001/irj/portal).
So, first thing we will have to do would be to install an SSL certificate (signed by a Trusted CA) on the load balancer with a CN=portaltest.mycompany.com.
I understand that for https to function properly, the host name in the URL we are using to get to the server should match the CN of the SSL certificate installed on the server.
Now, can we install the same certificate (that we put on the LB) on the portal as well?
(This might not work because the server type will be different)
    (or)
Do we need to buy 2 certificates with the same CN and install one each on the LB and portal ?
Can some one please suggest on how to proceed with the SSL setup and certificate installation process ?
    Thank You ,
    Raj

    Raj Kumar wrote:
My question is about how to go about installing the certificates on the LB and on the portal.
If you aren't using web dispatcher, then the details of the installation on the LB will depend on your LB (Cisco? Radware? etc?). I suggest contacting your LB vendor for that.
Sen's link is for SSO, you want the [SSL procedure|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/f1/2de3be0382df45a398d3f9fb86a36a/frameset.htm].
You probably don't need a signed cert on the portal server itself (depending on whether your LB validates the cert). You could just use the default self-signed cert, since users won't be connecting to it directly and so won't be troubled by warnings about untrusted certs: the traffic from the AS would still be encrypted, you would only lose out on the server authentication feature (which you don't need, since again users won't see it).
On the other hand, do you really need SSL on portal server? That adds overhead at both the LB and portal. It's usually sufficient to use HTTP from the LB to the back-end, as long as the servers only allow connections from the LB. I realize you aren't using web dispatcher, but this looks like scenario #3 in [this diagram|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/d8/a922d7f45f11d5996e00508b5d5211/frameset.htm]

  • Discussion on load-balance and load-sharing

Hi, I found a article, which discuss the difference between load-balance and load-sharing. I think the explanation is pretty good, please see below. But I still have a question: how can we decide to choose one the both balance in the production environment ?  Thank you
"In short, load balancing tries to distribute traffic evenly over multiple paths, whereas, load sharing intends to do it (for the lack of a better term) equally.  True load balancing is difficult to achieve.  For example, let's say there were two links (100 mbps and 300 mpbs) and a router needed to send out 600 mbps of traffic.  Load balancing would distribute the traffic evenly, sending 300 mbps on each link.  On the contrary, load sharing would divide the traffic equally based on the available resources, sending 200 mbps on the slower link and 400 mbps on the faster one. That's not how Cisco uses the terms, and generically they are often used almost interchangeably.
Cisco uses load balancing as the catch all for how a single L3 device routes across multiple paths to the same destination.  Equal metrics or equal actual load distribution are not required.  Most often, load balancing will be discussed with ECMP, but unequal path loading balancing will include Cisco's proprietary IGPs, such as EIGRP.
Cisco uses load sharing when using multiple paths when a single L3 devices doesn't normally route across multiple paths or multiple L3 devices are involved.  Cisco load sharing discussions usually revolve around BGP.
Generically, I would say load balancing has more of a dynamic aspect to it, i.e. something is trying to actively balance traffic across multiple paths, while load sharing might mean multiple paths are utilized but not actively dynamically balanced.
I'm unsure what's your question with a production environment.

  • Load Balancing Convergence

Does anyone have advice on how to have multiple instances of Convergence running with a load balancer is front?
We currently have an environment that consists of 6 Convergence web servers behind a Cisco ACE Load Balancer
However, we ran into problems initially in regards to SSL offload. HTTPS connections come into the LB on port 443 where the LB handles the security decryption and are then forwards to the Convergence web server on port 80. This was causing a problem because Glassfish was always redirecting the traffic back to HTTP
Our only solution to get around this problem was to install an apache proxy server that sits in between the LB and Convergence. So now the HTTPS connections come into the LB on port 443 where the LB handles the security decryption and are then forwards to the Apache proxy server on port 80 which checks the url and if it is HTTPS it forward the traffic to Convergence which is running on port 1080, or if the url is HTTP it redirects it to HTTPS
This doesn't seem like an ideal solution to me. Has anyone got this or something similar working in their environment?
FYI, would prefer not to use the Glassfish software load balancing

Is there any documentation on these filters?Nothing public.
They are the ones executed before the SSOFilter, so one of them is redirecting the URL https://domain/iwc to http://domain/iwc
SetCharacterEncodingFilter=> This sets the encoding to UTF-8. It doesn't perform a redirect.
UserTraceFilter=> This is used for adding the users' IP address and session ID to the iwc.log when enableusertrace is enabled. It doesn't perform a redirect.
AnonymousRequestFilter=> This is for anonymous calendar access. This is the only filter that performs a redirect however only not to "http://domain/iwc".

  • Load Balancing ITS on ERP 2005 displayed through EP 7.0

We are having trouble setting up our Cisco ACE load balancer for ITS on ERP 2005 displayed through EP 7.0.  The help documentation is a little confusing as to whether ITS does its load balancing by itself, or with ERP 2005, you need an external load balancer.  Does ITS on ERP 2005 provide load balancing?
If it does not, we need an external load balancer and are trying to figure out how to configure the ACE tool for that, particularly around session persistence.  Since we are also doing reverse proxy, we would need to use session cookies to key the sticky round-robin load balancing off of.  The documentation is a little vague on what the cookie variable is for ITS sessions.  Can anyone point me to detailed instructions on how to do this?

  • Wlp and apache load balancing

    Hi,
I have been trying to understand webloigc clustering and load balancing capabilities. I have been through the edocs but it does not explain how things work, instead they only emphasis on how to configure.
              Consider the following scenario:
              --------cisco firewall/load balancer------------
              apatche1 apache2 apache3
              -------------------firewall-------------------------
              WLP1 WLP2 WLP3 WLP4
              My questions are:
              (1) how apache servers load balance incoming requests amongst the four portal instances? I understand that it will use weblogic proxy plug-in. the httpd.config also should be configured to proxy requests to WLP instances by adding the corresponding address:prot entries for each instance, using WebLogicCluster keyword.
              (2) Weblogic cluster will have nothing to do with load balancing? The only benefit I get of configuring weblogic cluster is session replication, right?
              (3) even failover is going to be handled by apache servers?
              (4) if I need to use SSL and I need to have my SSL encryption/decryption to be done on WLP instances; apache servers will only forward requests, no encryption/decryption to be done on the web tier. Is this possible?
See in WebSphere the edge component will handle the load balancing and through it I can assign load weights for each appserver instance.
              (5) Are there any best practice to implement load balancing and failover on weblogic portal?
I appreciate any input in this regards.

    1. yes, configure the apache plugin. put your 4 servers in the WeblogicCluster property (host:port,host:port...). The proxy will round robin requests between the servers in the cluster, although sessions are pinned to a single server. So if a request with a session (jsessionid cookie) comes in, it will read the primary server from the cookie and route it to that server.
note that we have had trouble with keep alives ON and load balancing. we had to turn keep alives off to get load balancing working.
    2. right, the cluster allows failover by replication. apache plugin will perform the failover.
    3. the plugin will keep a dynamic server list so if a server goes down, it will update the cluster list and not route to it. it will also retry requests on another server on an error or timeout connecting. you can tweak timeout settings like WLSocketTimeoutSecs and ConnectTimeoutSecs. and keep idempotent ON which allows failover, unless you aplpication can't handle this.

  • Error using load balancer in ebusiness suite R12

    Hi
Has any one used Cisco 11503 load balancer in their ebusiness implementation
we have upgraded a customer instance from 11i10cu2 to 12.0.6. we have configured the R12 instance for load balancer as per metalink note 380489.1
when we access the ebusiness suite, we hit the issue as mentioned below:
You cannot complete this task because one of the following events caused a loss of page data. Possible Causes:
You have left your login session idle past the timeout period. A system failure has occurred. The application server is incorrectly configured and does not send a session cookie to the client browser. If you were testing in JDeveloper: JDeveloper OC4J process did not fully shut down before restarting the application. You closed one of the Internet Explorer browser windows while the request is being processed in another Internet Explorer window. Closing an Internet Explorer window causes OC4J to expire a user session. OC4J XML files in your JDeveloper user home system directory have been modified or corrupted.
as per many metalink notes, this may occur due to load balancer ..example note : 755825.1
we have then removed load balancer setting from the applications context file (xml file) and issue doesnt occur.
so issue seems to be with load balancer setting, however we couldnt find any doc which mentions setting for Cisco 11503 load balancer
we saw notes for Bigip and cisco ACE load balancer in metalink 601694.1
Customer is also unable to help here .. as to what setting needs to be changed
    Can someone kindly advise

Have you opened a case with Cisco to see if they can help ? Has persistence been enabled on the load balancer ? Is there some kind of timeout enabled on the balancer ? I do not know much about load balancers, but the settings should be somewhat similar across all of them. See if these docs help

  • SSL termination using Hardware Load Balancer

We are trying to implement SSL at the Hardware LoadBalancer layer and terminate the SSL there.  Architecture includes Apache Reverse Proxy and Portal server running EP7 SP18.  In this scenario we want encruption between the client browser and the Load Balancer (BigIP F5).  The Load blancer will then decrypt the request and send it to the Apache reverse proxy on port 80.  Apache Reverse proxy will send request to Portal J2EE engine on the http port.
this scenario seems to work in most cases but we are having issues with the standard portal login page.  The login page is sent to the browser on https but when entering credentials and selecting the login button a request gets generated on port 80, not 443 (https) and is not serviced by the load balancer.  99% of the requests that get generated from the client borwser stay on port 443 as expected but for some reason this particular request switches to port 80.
How can we keep all requests generated on port 443 (https)?

    Hello Brian (all)
I am facing the same issue - except we do not have the Apache proxy in the setup..... just HTTPS to a Cisco ACE load balancer and then HTTP to the portal.
Nearly all of the portal content is working great, but am facing the situation that some ESS content is switching to HTTP.  In discussing with the network team, they have done the following:
1/ Replies from the portal server back to the client have an SSL rewrite performed, which modifies a 301 or 302 reply and changes http ULRs to https.
2/ The load balancer adds an HTTP header u201CClientProtocol httpsu201D to the request it sends to the portal server.
They feel we need to find a way to have the portal server only send either references with no host:header (i.e. http) or only send host:header with https to keep it all SSL.
    Any advice?

  • Load Balancing on RV320

    Hi,
My Cisco RV320 router are not working like I want ...
I get two ISP in France, same tech. specs., sames bandwidth, but 2 differents way to connect.
The first WAN is connected in PPPoE with a ADSL2+ Modem
The second WAN is connected in Static IP with a modem/router
I set the load balancing Auto. but it seem that the WAN2 is more used than the WAN1...
For example, I upload a big documents, like a video on youtube, witch take a long time and need the max Bandwidth. While I'm going to download a file with an internal software, who use a different port by the way. The most of the time, it only use the WAN2 ... so my download is flanged ! It only donwload @~450KB/S when it can max @ ~1,8MO/S, and the WAN1 is not blinking ... And sometimes the balancing is good ... I can't understand the RV320 logic ? But Maybe is there a bug ? Maybe I get a bad configuration ?
    Have a clue ?
    Please help me !

So, you can hear the phone ringing and answer it? which means that SIP pakets are coming through WAN to LAN and well redirected to the phone IP, but you cannot hear after that, which means that there could be a problem with the RTP packets.
If you have problem only with the incoming calls and not the outgoing, than try enable/disable SIP ALG (Firewall). If that doesn't fix the issue, try to allow (or even forward) from WAN to LAN RDP -  UDP ports 16384-32767 to the phone IP.
