  • W701 Won't boot with USB dongle attached

W701 with current BIOS (6KET46WW v1.12) will hang if there is a USB dongle for a Microsoft Explorer Mouse USB dongle in the upper left USB (2.0) socket on boot. Works fine if you put the USB dongle in the lower USB/eSata socket. Note that the upper socket on this 2541-W1Z is NOT a USB 3.0 port (silver, not blue). Course I don't want to put it in that socket since I like to use that for eSata... Apparently the same problem exists in the W5XX laptops as well, but I don't see a post discussing the issue on the W701.

    Have you seen the thread

Yours may be a similar problem.
I'm about to get a W701 in a day or 2 and will be in the same situation. I'll check it out and report back when I can.

  • Printer will only work connected with USB direct to computer

A few weeks ago I was printing a long document. In the middle of it, it went on hold. Since then I cannot print wireless with either of my computers. If I plug the USB direct from the printer to the computer the printer will work. I cannot print wireless. Do I need a new Airport?

    Welcome to the discussions!
    +Do I need a new Airport?+
Try a simple reset of the printing system as follows:
Make sure that the printer is plugged into the AirPort Express and everything is powered up
Open System Preferences on the dock and click Print & Fax
Right-click or control-click in the area where you see the printer listed
    Select Reset Printing System
    Click the + button
Highlight your printer on the available printer list
    Click Add
    Does that provide any help?

  • Cannot print or scan with USB printer over wifi from airport express / time capsule wifi

    Hi everybody,
I have recently set up time capsule connected to the router from the telephone company but created a new wifi network for the time machine to better work. Now I have bought an airport express to be able to use my USB printer over the WIFI network. I have to laptops, the printing works fine over the mac book air but not over the macbook pro. On top of that I cannot scan with either of the devices.
I have scanned most of the information out there but this issue seems not to be addressed properly anywhere. Advices given do always repeat itself but no solution worked for me.
Now I have plugged the usb from the printer directly back into mac book pro and the problem seems to persist here too. The message I receive everywhere is this one:
The software for the printer was installed incorrectly.
Would you like it to be repaired?
When I hit the Repair button a notice says 'repairing permissions' but nothing really happens. In the end nothing has been printed.
Resetting the printing systems has not really changed anything either. The problems persist.
This is the screen I get when the printer is directly plugged in through USB:
Result: printer recognised and installed, I cannot print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly), but I can scan (probably because of the hint ('multifunction')
When I try to install the printer through the network connection (wifi network over time capsule and airport express) I get this image:
Result: printer recognised over bonjour but without multifunction (in other words without scanning), I cannot scan nor print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly)
As I already mentioned any solution I found online would not work. Now the qustions are:
    1) why can't I print? The drivers seem to be there but somehow broken, and I don't know how to repair it
    2) why can't I scan over wifi? It sould possible that any function that can be performed over cable should also be able to performable over air, right?
I would very much appreciate any kind of help.
    Thank you in advance,
    Cris

    What's up doc?
HP has not provided "network" drivers to allow advanced features when the the All-in-One is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
Therefore, only the printing function is supported when the All-in-One is connected to the Time Capsule's USB port.
If you need advanced features like fax, copy, scan, maintenance etc., you will need to connect over the WiFI network, or connect the All-in-One directly to your computer.

  • How do I export the MUSIC in a playlist to a USB dongle?

    Hi There,
I have put more than 400 songs into a new playlist and I want to export this playlist (music content NOT just the play LIST) onto a USB dongle. I did this some time ago and can't remember how I did it. I can BURN to a disk, but I want this playlist onto a dongle. Any help would be grateful.
    Thanks
    Phacoman.

    Hello arrowepark,
Thank you for providing the details of what you are trying to accomplish.  To transfer a playlist, you will need to transfer the music and playlist file separately.
You can transfer your music by dragging the music to the USB drive, and next, you will have to take the additional step of exporting the playlist to the USB and importing your playlist to the alternate computer:
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File>Library> Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.
You can find this in the section titled "Home Sharing" in the following article:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

  • Problems with USB device when using WindowsNT

    Hi,
my problem is that I want to use a simulator which can only be connected with USB to the computer.
I used the VISA Driver Development Wizard as discribed in this link (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792BAB18242082786256DD7006B6416) and it didn't work.
I'm using Windows NT and VISA 3.1 and I read that it isn't possible to create a USB connection with VISA when using Windows NT. So my questions
    1) is this right
    2) Has someone a idea what I can do? I tried to use VISA USB Control and this also didn't work.
I hope I discribed my problem detailed enough. It's my first post.
    Thanks for your responses
    Joerg

As you can see in this table, USB is not supported by VISA under NT:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/EE34F21ECC2BE01286256C52005D1A1F?OpenDocument
I would recommend to use Win2000 or XP. Using one of these OSes you could use this turorial  to create your VISA-driver:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzoneweb.nsf/Opendoc?openagent&1D0DD81FF1448CAE86256D90006EE2B4
If it is not posssible to change the OS, you have to look for other ways of programming your usb-device. Check the web or the Microsoft site for help concerning Windows SDK and USB.
    Hope this helps a little!

  • View image instantly on monitor from camera with USB connection

    Hello,
What I want is to see my image instantly on monitor when I am taking a picture from example a portrait or a painting in the studio. The camera is connected with USB to the computer.
    Help!!

So I was shooting teathered the other day with the following:
    Nikon D100
USB to Powerbook G4, 1.25 Ghz 2GB Ram OS 10.4.8
    Nikon Capture to Hot Folder
    Hot Folder to Aperture
My issue was that sometimes for reasons I could not work out my
Camera would lock-up after a couple of frames shot. I was also syncing
to a couple of dynalites but I dont think it was a light re-cycle thing.
This became embarrasing as my subject was standing there and my shutter
    would be locked up.
Was this an issue with maxing out the processor on the Pbook?
Or perhaps writing the file to aperture?
Would it be better to have the image display in Nikon Capture and worry bout importing into Aperture later?
After finally de-teathering and shooting normaly I never ran into the problem again.
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    TIA.

  • Good Bluetooth USB Dongle on a computer with no built in Bluetooth?

    Hi Everyone
What is a good external USB dongle to use to link up my new Apple bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse on my Mac Pro without built in Bluetooth?
    Thanks

Probably most any usb bluetooth dongle will work.  I use a IOGear GBU421 (got it on sale at Fry's for about $9) but I believe the DLink DBT-120 is another populer one.  Mine is plugged into the back of my 27" LED so it's only a foot or two away from my magic mouse and trackpad.
Note, there are a few "gotchas" with these things.
    1. They are usb devices so if you sleep the machine the dongle is off too.  So you can't, for example, click a bluetooth mouse to wake your machine.  I wake my machine by clicking a key on my wired keyboard.
    2. They don't always pair right away after waking up from sleep (at least mine doesn't).  You may have to flip the switch on the mouse to get your machine to notice it.    There is rarely a problem with the BT coming up after a (re)boot.
    3. Depending on the model of mac pro, there may be some concern on whether plugging in a BT dongle disables the internal BT.  On late 2010 Mac Pro's like I have it does.  On earlier models I am not so sure and the internal card may have to be disconnected.  Since you don't have internal you don't have to worry about this.  I'm just mentioning this for others that may read this.
I guess I should answer the question on why one would stick a dongle onto a mac pro that has internal BT.  Mainly because for some, the BT on the mac pro s**ks!  IMO sticking an antenna inside and near the back of what amounts to a Faraday cage is not a bright idea.  End result, skipping mice (google it and see this thread and there could be other dongle suggestions in that thread as well), poor reception, and a lot of frustration.  Results vary depending on how far the mac pro is from the mouse, it's position, and what's between the back of the machine and the mouse.
    4. Even if you use a BT mouse (with or without a dongle) I recommend always having a wired mouse as a backup (keboard too if you are using a BT keyboard).
    5. If you are having pairing problems, the "standard" first attempt to fix is to do a smc and pram reset.  And if all else fails you can do a "factory reset" of BT and re-pair your BT devices.

Once we use the USB dongle to image computer 1 , then the MAC address of USB dongle gets associated with the computer name of the tablet because the tablet does not have Ethernet port.
Now to image computer 2 if we PXE boot with used dongle gets PXE abort as it is known computer.
If we advertise to "All Known" computers then try the PXE boot works and we can image computer2 .
Now how can we advertise task sequence to "All Unknown" computers and get the task sequence to work with used USB Dongle.

I suggest going back and reading it again then.
    Highlight:
A “better” solution could be to create a collection, that is based on the Mac Address of the devices, which are used to deploy those systems. So typically this collection will have a handful of Mac Addresses. Important part is, that those Mac addresses
shouldn’t be used in day to day business, just for the plain purpose of deployment. Then one can advertise as many task sequences as required and limit the deployment(s) to only media and PXE. This way, the deployment isn’t visible from the Software Center
but the support staff can continue to deploy new systems using PXE or other medias like USB Sticks.

I believe the next time you sync your phone to itune via the cord, you will have to check the box that says sync via wifi and also enable that setting on your iphone.
