Cisco RVS4000 vs Linksys RVS4000 Firmware

I have both Cisco RVS4000 & Linksys RVS4000 routers in Use.
I can only find Firmware V 1.4.1.2,
I have updated all my CISCO branded Routers.
Will this File work with my Linksys Routers as well.  They have V 1.1.14 now.
Thanks
Greg.

Hi tyler0009,
You will find the latest firmware here: https://software.cisco.com/download/navigator.html?mdfid=283005379&catid=268437899
However, if you download Cisco FindIT, this tool will tell you when the latest firmware is available and update it for you.

  • RVS4000 firmware update won't update

Two days ago Cisco released an firmware update (2.0.0.3v2) for the RVS4000. I downloaded it and my router won't recognize it as a firmware upgrade. I noticed the file has a .img extension I thought perhaps it meant for me to burn an image of the firmware so that I could upgrade from a CD, but apparently Windows7 does not recognize this as a burnable image. I've downloaded the file with Firefox, IE and Safari with the same results. Can't burn the .img file and it won't be recognized by the router as a firmware upgrade.
    What do Cisco?

The following is straight from the firmware release note.
RVS4000 V2 is a hardware revision of the RVS4000 product. Although all of the
features of RVS4000 are preserved in the V2 product, the firmware is
    not compatible.
If your router has hardware version 2, you will see V
02 in the PIDVID label on the
    bottom panel of the router.
Firmware v2.0.0.3 shares the same set of known issues as RVS4000 firmware
    1.3.2.0.

  • RVS4000 Firmware v2.0.0.3 will not save settings

I have a RVS4000 that will not save any settings. Click on, for instance, Disable WAN requests. Click save and it goes back to Enable.
If I create a VPN tunnel, click save, it clears all settings like I didn't type anything.
    What is going on?

I recently purchased the RVS-4000 v2 and setup a single VPN tunnel.  Then I upgraded to the latest firmware v2.0.0.3.  Today, I attempted to add a second tunnel and none of the settings could be saved.  I found that this was not limited to the VPN settings, so the issue is more widespread; although, I was able to do deletions of tunnels, so this appears to be some sort of global-edit-save issue.
My workaround for the moment was to go back 1 level in the firmware, which of course, is always dangerous with any brand or device.  I was not comfortable doing that, but it works for the moment.
Looking at the security issues which v2.0.0.3 addressed, I (and other users) are at a severe disadvantage if we are forced to use firmware prior to v2.0.0.3, and if we do, then we lose edit-save, at the least for VPN, which is why I purchased this to begin with.
So, I'll throw this out to Cisco - the first report of this issue was in August.  It is now almost December and there is NO FIX?  Cisco is supposed to be *the name* in networking devices.  What is going on there?  Was ANY Q/A done on this firmware?  Now that you know it's broken, why isn't it fixed?  I recognize that now you are looking to retire the 4000, but I for one can tell you that this is going to leave a bad feeling with this author if it is done without resolving the obvious issues.  I am very sure you have a firmware engineer who knows what happened here and has a fix.  So, why isn't it out here for end users?  Product manager  - where are you?

  • RVS4000 firmware updates don't work with Internet Explorer 8.0

I have 2 RVS4000 VPN routers.  Neither would accept firmware updates via the admin browser interface using Internet Explorer 8.0.  After lots of troubleshooting, I tried Chrome (Google) on 1 router and Mozilla Firefox on the other.  Both updates were successful.  The firmware rescue utility that you can download from the Cisco web site also works.  It does the update without the browser interface, but installs a slightly older version of firmware than is availble for browser-based firmware updates.  I hope this saves you time and frustration when you need to update your routers.
    Rene Feitelson

    Rene,
A thousand thanks for taking the time to post your result. You've made my day!
I have spent over 8 hours today trying to implement a firmware upgrade on my RVS4000, with zero success. I initially used Safari 5 (on a Win XP SP3 machine) in order to update IPS to v1.42, with no success. Switching to MS IE8 and the update worked fine - hence I stuck with IE8 for the firmware update. I can confirm your result - IE8 does not initiate a firmware update, nor does it provide any feedback whatsoever on its failure.
Using the Firefox v3.5.9 browser the RVS4000 v1.3.2.0 firmware update worked straight away without a glitch.
So, perhaps a general "Heads Up" to everyone - if you have any issues when trying to configure your Router, then try using another browser as the first step.
    Many thanks again, Rene.

Oh, another issue that might help folks:
When the firmware update file "filename.img" is downloaded from the Cisco site Windows interprets it as a .zip file and associates the usual ZIP file icon to it. Cisco's documentation states "unpack the file and ......". This immediately leads one to believe that the firmware update file is contained in the ZIP file. This is not the case! It is NOT a ZIP file at all, but is the binary that the router requires.
If one tries to unzip the file WinZip throws up an error "ISO file incomplete" and doesn't unzip it.
So, ignore the ZIP file icon and just point the router firmware updater at the .img file, despite its ZIP icon.

  • RVS4000 Firmware 1.3.1.0

I just git myself the RVS4000 and found that the installed firmware is 1.3.1.0 but on the cisco website only 1.3.0.5 is available.
What are the changes to the 1.3.1.0 Firmware and why ist this version not downloadable?
    Thanks

I was told the firmware is on the way to be posted.
The following problems were fixed in firmware version 1.3.1.0:
    - Fixed a poor resolution issue in the left navigation pane of the web-based application that occurs when using Firefox v3.5.
    - Fixed the issue that was causing the Delete button in the Status > Local Network page not to work.
    - Updated the IPS Signature to version 1.41.

  • Unable to get registry key for protectlink in cisco rvs4000

    All,
I need help. Just a few weeks ago I purchased a rvs4000 router. On that small business device is a product called protectlink. To get an activation key, you need a registration key first. That is normal in the package. However, my wify like to cleanup up and throws stuff away that she should not do. So, I lost the registration key.
It is impossible to key a new registration key. The webstore does not have them. They are in the package and will not open an other one. Cisco (if you can get passed the ...you don't have a support contract...go away statement) does not even know that they have this product. Registration keys, never heard of it. But you get the normal ... we can't help you, go to the webstore or trendmicro.... And that after the statement, we don't know that product. How do you know that this is a trenmicro piece of software.....
Well call trendmicro.... Same answer, we can't help you. Go to Cisco or the Websore. I realy feel like a dog trying to get his tail.
So, last hope of some progress I post this on the community group for small business devices. Maybe this will help. If some one can help me getting a registration key for a cisco small business router rvs4000 to obtain an activation code for the cisco/trensmicro protectlink product.... then please send it [email protected]
    Kind regard, Rembrandt

I want to inform you that the rvs4000 router does not come with the protectlink license. Protectlink is a service that you can purchase from a resseller or you can also get the trial license from the cisco website to test it our before you buy it for free. I am going to provide you with the link for the trial: http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/solutions/small_business/products/security/protectlink/index.html
The second link is to find a trend micro reseller: http://www.trendmicro.com/buy/partners/Small-Biz.asp
    Thanks

  • RVS4000 firmware upgrade to ver 2.0.3.2

             Hello,
I have firmware version 2.0.2.7. I've down loaded the firmware upgrade utility ver 1.3, and do not see a read me or help file.  I've disconnected the cables as directed, but recive a 'broadcast error' and a 'browse device error'      What is causing this?
    Curtis

Hi Curtis, the firmware upgrade should be done through the GUI of the RVS4000. If you're able to log in to the device, the upgrade is under admin -> firmware upgrade, then just browse the file and upload it.

  • Linksys e3000 firmware update FAIL

I am trying to install the latest firmware (downloaded from cisco site) on our E3000.
I downloaded this file from their site....
I am using a Windows 7 Toshiba laptop.
    Model name: Linksys E3000
    Model number: E3000
    Firmware version: 1.0.03 build 2
Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1
    Software version: 1.3.11006.1
    Connection type (WAN): DHCP
This is the downloaded file I am trying to use
This is the message I get immediately.

To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file.

  • Linksys EA4500 Firmware

Hi! I downloaded a new firmware EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware Ver.2.1.39.144146 (10/31/2012) and I can't find the option that hides my SSID. How to select the channel? Help, please!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes that is normal. I will suggest to select the channel with the less interference and does not overlap with other wireless devices available in the area.

  • Cisco Catalyst 3750 & Linksys SGE2000P

    Hello everyone,
I m in the process of addin new switches with Gigabit port in my server room, actually I have a single switch 48 port (a Cisco 3550) that is connected to a Core Switch via fibre channel but I need to migrate some of my server in a gigabit mode. My management did not allow me to buy a new Cisco switch, because the model with 24 port Gigabit is a bit expensive. so I need to find another solution.
My first thought was to buy a Linksys SGE2000P, and connect it to our Core switch via a fiber channel, to do that I must be sure that a SGE2000P is compatible with my Core switch (3750 12 port SFP) so here is my question does anyone around here has already tried that ? :-)
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    Arnaud Leresche

I think there should be no compatibility issue BUT I have not personally tried it.

  • Linksys Router Firmware Upgrade ?

Just got my new iPad on Monday. Been trying to get it to work with my wireless network. Several conversations with At&T and Apple support and it was determined that I needed to upgrade my Linksys, BEFW11S4 Router. Just completed that process. The "code.bin" was very interesting...Still not working. My iPad sees the internet, but does not connect. In reading some of the posts, I don't see any switching from 'g' instead of 'b/g' in my Linksys set up. Don't see the QoS or the WMM setting. Anyone have any ideas. At this point, I'm going to just go buy a new router.

    Thanks for you msg.
My IP does begin with a 169. I say that my iPad is seeing the internet because of the wavy lines next to the iPad logo in the upper left hand corner. That's what an Apple Support person told me. I've taken the iPad to an Apple store and it works fine, so I'm confident there is nothing wrong with the iPad unless I've screwed up some setting. I have Renewed the Lease a number of times. I've got an AT&T 2Wire modem/router that I'm debating on installing. It shouldn't be that big of deal, but you never know. Anyway, thinking the new router will have the latest and greatest firmware.

  • Linksys Router firmwares

I was curious what the new Linksys firmwares are based on?
The E8350 looks like the old fimrware UI you would find in WRT54G Series, is it Linux or VxWorks based?
And what is Linksyssmartwifi bases on? still VxWorks but with a new UI?
    Cheers,

Can't speak for all of em... but this sysinfo.cgi output of a WTR1900AC would suggest it's based on Linux

  • Cisco 3030 with Linksys BEFVP41 VPN

I have 3030 concentrator, currently iam using Cisco 806 router for site to site tunnel and its working fine. is it possible to use BEFVP41 linksys box to configure tunnel? If yes, can i have more details?

Though I haven't worked on the same myself, the answer is yes, it is possible. The reason for that is that IPSec is an open standard and supported by both the boxes in question. Some minor issue do crop up such as the system message "Failure during phase 1 rekeying attempt due to collision" followed by a quick disconnect and reconnect of the tunnel. Even these issues can be sorted out using simple steps such as setting the rekeying interval. You'll need to be careful about these issues.

  • Cisco RV016 2.0.18 firmware VPN timeouts

Hi i have a RV016 with older firmware that when connected to a cisco 1841 via ipsec the cisco tunnel times out and protocol goes down. Im able to pass traffic for about one minute each time its up then goes down. The only way to bring it back up is to initiate the connection on the RV016 or do a shut/no shut on the tunnel interface on the 1841.
I notice that older version of firmware is not even being offered anymore and version 3.0.x fixes a few vpn issues but the release notes dont go into it much.
    thanks, Paul

    Hello Thomas,
In my case, it was pfSense Linux firewall connected to the WRVS4400N...
We changed the ISP modem during the troubleshooting and as a result, the tunnel was always up at both sides. In both modems (the original modem and the new one) we used PPPoE (bridge mode) so there was no reason to have a problem with the first one...
Unfortunately, with the new modem we got another problem:
    - If I try to connect from the pfSense network to the WRVS4400N network I have access all the time
    - If I try to connect from the WRVS4400N network to the pfSense network I am getting "Request timed out". If I do PING x.x.x.x -t for a minute I am getting a reply and the connection works fine. As soon as I stop using the tunnel for more then 5 minutes, the WRVS4400N shows that the tunnel is up but the ping shows again "Request timed out".
As a final solution, we replaced the WRVS4400N with RV-042 and now it works fine at both sides all the time...
So... Sorry but I am done with the WRVS4400N. Do not have time for it.
