Cisco SD2008 v3 switch dropping connections every few hours

Hi, I have a Cisco SD2008 v3 switch at the office that routinely drops connections every few hours and must be turned off/on to get back up. It doesn't seem to drop all connections, but some boxes plain and simply become unreachable.
I've double-checked that there aren't any looping cables. The network infrastructure wasn't touched, as we had a cheap unbranded switch before (which amusingly didn't have any problems other than an annoying fan) and just put the Cisco in.
I've googled a bit and found some references to this problem, which leads me to believe it's reasonably widespread. Is there a firmware update of some sort for this equipment? Any ideas?

Hi Bruno,
If you would be so kind as to ring the good folks at the Small Business Support center regarding this issue.

If there is a known problem with this older product it should be replaced.  You cannot update the unmanaged switch with new firmware as I guess that can only be done in a factory.
But the older SD2008  has been refreshed by  the new  technology SD2008T  (100 series)  which are really quite advanced compared to the older SD series switches.

  • Drop outs every few hours

    Hi all
hope someone can help as i am coming to the end of my tether with my BT Faster Broadband connection
it drops out every few hours and has done for almost 2 months.  i cant watch a movie or play a game without losing connection at least once, maybe twice if i am really unlucky.
i got a new hh5 a little while ago and was fine for a while. then the problems started - dropping 2 or 3 times a day.  contacted bt and they sent a replacement hh5. no change.  eventually in the last few days got worse and its now sometimes dropping at least a dozen times a day, rendering my connection little short of useless.
almost convinced it was a hh5 issue as they seemed to take an age to resynch, so bought an asus dsl-n66u and crossed my fingers.
soon enough, connection dropped again and again.
i have tried 3 different cables, between router and socket, removed the openreach faceplate and plugged a new filter  in to the test socket.  connected for around 4 hours and droped again.
Connection details from the Asus, with the filter in the master socket - the same as with the openreach filter (as you can see i lost connection again not so long ago.

  • BT Homehub 2 dropping connection every few minutes

Hi, my homehubs been working perfectly until today when it started dropping the connection every few minutes (ranging from 3 minutes up to 13). The broadband and phone lights go out then orange and then back to blue after about a minute.
Having browsed the forums etc Ive changed the location of the hub, changed channels, checked cabling and changed the microfilter.
Im now at a bit of a loss. The firmware is Version 8.1.H.J (Type A) and i notice that the firmware updated on todays date.
Im hoping someone has some ideas as im all out now.
    Thanks

I have the same problem friday afternoon at 4.30 to 11.30 at night the router reset itself every five minutes ....the prob first started in nov 2010 i have had 3 home engineer visits and finally we might be getting somwhere it looks like its caused by interferance on the line the phones fine its the broadband ,looking at the engineers meter it was running fine then all of a sudden it spikes erros 21,000 of them the router reboots and steadys again .......somthings causing line interferance it could be anything a pir on a security light ,a street lamp with a faulty timer ,there has even been a case where a car tyre garage has had its broadband removed by sombodys faulty tv .......
the engineer fitted a resistor box under the wall socket and ran the wires through it to the socket ...this is disigned to filter out certain frequencies of line pollution but not all ......it seems to be working its only shut down twice tonight and that could be the exchange mucking about as they are continuing to monitor the problem ......HOPING ....... oh he also removed the front of the wall socket and fitted me a dsl one with a separate phone socket hence doing away with the dsl filter ......................

  • Broadband drops every few hours

My broadband drops out every few hours and takes me between 5 - 15 minutes to reconnect.
I have good speed (for here! about 1.3mb down) and this doesn't change but the connection drops at least 5 times a day. It's been doing this for at least 3 months. Sometimes it does just run very slow, but mostly it drops altogether.
The only way to get it working again is to turn off the router and turn it on again, then after anything from 5 - 15 minutes for it to reconnect.
It happens to all the computers we have connected, all via wireless, some mac some pc on Win 7.
    Can anyone help please?

I will try changing the filter and cable, I may have tried this a while ago but will again.
Quite line has very very slight crackle but I don't think it's anything, we live a long way down the line in the coutryside and I never had better.
Not dropped completly since last night
but this is last activity showing how it's connecting, not sure what the fails mean..

I am working on a Toshiba Portege 400. I have no problem connecting, but I loose the connection every few minutes. Sometimes it reconnects quickly, other times I have to select "connect".I do not have the same problem with my other laptop. Any ideas?

  • Server shares drop every few hours

Every few hours for the past few days the server shares have dropped off for all SMB and AFP users. Looking at the permissions for these shares when they do this, the group name has been lost and is just a alphanumerical string. Rebooting makes things work again. This is running Mac OS X 10.6.4 Server.

  • MacBook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours

So my Macbook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours. It's that "Dummmmmmmm" sound when you first boot up the computer. Things I noticed: when the sound played and I quickly went to open my laptop it was like nothing has happened - I had my Google Chrome window from the previous session open, everything was just normal as if I had just opened the laptop to resume using it. This has only happened when the Mac is folded up. Today it just happened at approximately 10:00 and here's the log:

  • EA6500 reboots every few hours

Hi, I got my new comcast connection and using CISCO DPC3008 cable modem and EA6500 Wifi Smart Router. Internet works fine and then suddently the internet goes away. Further investigation shows EA6500 Wifi router just reboots every few hours and then wifi devices don't reconnect like it used to do with previous routers.
Any idea what is wrong? Have the latest firmware. Reset multiple times.

    Hi,
Is there a specific time when the router reboots? This performance seems weird and there's no way for most of us - the end users to check what causes the reboot. Anyways, you can try to set static channels on both 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz bands. For the 2.4Ghz - set it to channel 9 - 2.452 Ghz and for the 5Ghz band, set it to 153 - 5.765 Ghz.
This is based from  an observation on my friend's N450 Belkin Router - got so curious of it's "self healing" feature. Based on observation, self healing will just re-initialize the router based on the specific time that had been set and it will cycle through other available wireless channel. So, to avoid re-initialization, we can try setting a static wireless channel on EA6500.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • Network security key resets every few hours

Hi all, I have had an 802.11b wireless router for a few years now, and over the past few months I have been getting kicked off the network every few hours and having to reset the router in order to get back on. I ran a diagnostic check and it is telling me that my security key is not correct, even when it is the same saved password that I was using that earlier let me on the network (as in, I only typed it once for both times). Is this a known error? Has this ever happened to anyone else? I am thinking I will just replace the equipment but I'm curious to see if anyone else has had such strange experience. This happens to me on either XP or Vista. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

    Hi,
First thing you should try is to update the firmware of the router. As your router is a bit older.
After this Check the security key by logging to routers setup and if it is not your security key, then you can change it.
To check security key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable.
    1.      Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier
    2.      Go to wireless tab.
    3.      Go to wireless security sub-tab
    4.      If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key

  • FMS server keeps logging this message "fiber pool full : 0 active" and crashes every few hours

    Hello.
We have a live video streaming application running on Flash Media Server 4.5. It usually has about 50-80 concurrent clients connections - and at peaks it can sometimes reach 200-300.
The server log in the admin console keeps repeatedly logging this message:
fiber pool full : 0 active
I have no idea what this message means, and googling it returns 0 results.
Please, someone clarify what this message means...
    Plus:
Every few hours the application in the flash server suddenly seem to stop responding - in a way that makes it seem (at least in the admin console) as though clients gets connected but never disconnect - and then the numbers of connecting clients seem to rapidly increase really fast to about 4000-5000 - and the server becomes unresponsive.
I don't know why it happens but - probably is related to that cryptic message mentioned above.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Yuval.

Hey Yuval, I am having the same issue on my server, it keeps showing me a wrong number of connected clients and on server logs the message "Fiber Pool Full: 0 active".
After I am on manage server and try to go back to application flash player stop responding and I need to close that tab and open again!
    Does this happen to you?
Too bad I don`t have any solution to that, but if you find anything, it could be valuable for me as well, and vice versa.
    Thanks.

  • Mac Mini becomes unresponsive every few hours

I'm using a Mac Mini 2011 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b) connected via HDMI to a HDTV, Magic Trackpad, Logitech Solar keyboard.
Two days ago I installed IceFloor to set up my firewall. While using IceFloor (http://www.hanynet.com/icefloor/), the app became unresponsive, and the spinning beach ball appeared. After force quitting Chrome and Thunderbird, and waiting another 10 minutes, I had to shut down by long-pressing the power button. On restart, I used AppCleaner to remove IceFloor and Permanent Eraser to empty the trash.
Since then, every few hours, the spinning beach ball reappears, nothing responds, and I have to shut down via the power button. It doesn't matter which app I'm using - Chrome, TotalFinder, Kindle, LaunchBar, Thunderbird, Keynote, Calibre - they have all become unresponsive at various times over the last two days. I've run Sophos anti-virus and everything has come back clean. All software is up to date.
It is frustrating to be in the middle of something and have the computer become unresponsive. Additionally, it can't be good to continually shut down via the power button.
I'd really appreciate any suggestion to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

I have similar problems with IceFloor on my MacBook.  I wish I knew what firewall rules was causing the issue, but I don't have the interest right now to learn PF firewall configuration rules.
I suspect your issue is the PF firewall that IceFloor enabled is still running.  The PF firewall is a standard OS X component, IceFloor just gives you a GUI to manage it.  You enabled the PF firewall with IceFloor, but did not disable it before removing IceFloor.
I'd suggest reinstalling IceFloor, launching the app, and then selecting "disable" for the PF firewall.  If that solves your problem, then you can again remove the IceFloor app.

  • Urgent help. I have upgraded my phone but every few hours the apple appears and stays for 15 min an hour or more?

Urgent help. I have upgraded my phone but every few hours the apple appears and stays for 15 min an hour or more?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation.

  • Adobe Flash CC hangs every few hours

Hi, I have this issue since I have started using Adobe Flash CC in my new desktop pc. My Flash Window hangs and I have to force close it every few hours to make it work again. I am just doing some basic tracing work and the file size is not too large. I am using a very high configuration pc and with ample disk space. Attached is the screenshot of how it looks when it hangs. If someone has experienced this issue before please revert with any solution. Thanks

check your running processes to see if you have an adobe thread that's hanging (other than flash pro).  if you find one, you can usually terminate that and regain control of flash pro without needing to terminate it.
