Hi, I'm a network administrator and I wanted to get the security license price for our cisco1941K9. How could I have the cost ?

Cisco Security Manager (CSM) License Problem

Hi All,
We have CSM V3.2 with Professional license edition and support 50 devices. It's installed properly in the Cisco Security Manager client as appeared in the attachement but the problem is in the server administration- license management which doesn't include any records for license (see attachment).
I tried to upload the .lic file by clicking the Update button in server administration but an error message appeared stated that the license file is corrupted although it's installed properly in CSM client!!!
Could you please advise what's the problem and what should I do?

Sorry but Cisco seems to have removed that product bulletin from cisco.com.
Your reseller can use Cisco Commerce Workspace (CCW) to order the correct part number for your CSM installation. There is a unique number for each licensing level and/or upgrade.
For instance, for a 10-device standard license, the support would be part number CON-SAS-CSMST10K.
For the 100-device Pro license, the support would be CON-SAS-CSMPR4K9.
The reseller needs to adjust the support term (12-60 months) to suit when ordering.

Cisco Secure ACS license question.

On the Cisco ACS server under the internal identity stores… is “users” and “host” counted against the "base server license" or “network device license”?

With the Base license, Cisco Secure ACS 5.3 appliances or software virtual machines can support deployments of up to 500 network devices (authentication, authorization, and accounting [AAA] clients). The number of network devices is based on how many unique IP addresses are configured. This is not a limit for each individual appliance or instance, but a deployment-wide limit that applies to a set of ACS instances (primary and secondary) that are configured for replication.
The optional Large Deployment add-on license allows a deployment to support more than 500 network devices. Only one Large Deployment license is required per deployment as it is shared by all instances.

Cisco Security Manager related queries

In one of our projects, we are running CSM 3.2 on VMWare ESX 3.5.There is a project in place to have the ESX upgraded to 4.1
This looks like a challenge as CSM 3.2 is not supported on ESX 4.1. Cisco TAC has suggested to upgrade CSM to 4.2
Queries:
1.       CSM 3.2 to 4.2, will it involve additional license cost?
2.       If we upgrade CSM 3.2 to 4.2 and then upgrade ESX from 3.5 to 4.1, will it be back immediately without anything required to be done on CSM end, once VMWare is upgraded.
3.       Is there any other preferred solution/workaround to manage the situation
4.        If we have to move CSM from one ESX to another, what would be the steps involved to retain the same configuration and logs.

To migrate from 3.2 to 4.2, you will need to acquire a 4.2 license. The part number depends on how many devices your 3.2 installation is licensed for. Please refer to Table 2 on this announcement. You Cisco reseller or partner can provide you a quote but if you search the Internet for that part number you can see typical costs.
The procedure for upgrade would be to first move to an interim step of CSM 4.0 and then to 4.2. Please refer to this guide. Also see the section on that guide on moving to a new server for how to handle your ESX upgrade / migration.

Cisco Secure ACS

With the Base license, a Cisco Secure ACS 5.6 appliance or software virtual machine can support the deployment of up to 500 network access devices (NADs) such as routers and switches. These are not authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) clients. The number of network devices is based on the number of unique IP addresses that are configured.
So, when i have 1 firewall for vpn gateway, and using acs as an aaa server, how much network access device which is counted ? 1 or as many as vpn client connected to the firewall ?
500 network access device means concurrent connection or not ?

ACS is based on the number of NADs (Network Access Devices) like switches, routers, ASAs, etc. So in your example, your Firewall will consume 1 license regardless of the total number of VPN sessions.
With ISE, the licenses are based on the total number of endpoints. So in your example, each VPN session will take a license.

I checked SAP Note 77503, and as per the information:
As of SAP release 4.70, the AIS tool is integrated into the SAP_BASIS component. So logically you would not need a seperate license for the usage. The license for SAP ECC 6.0 should cover the same.
Also the latest version of AIS would be dependent on SAP_BASIS component version. As per Note 754273 the following PFCG roles are required for usage of the AIS tool
SAP_AUDITOR_SA System audit
SAP_AUDITOR_SA_CUS_TOL System audit - Tables
SAP_AUDITOR_SA_CCM_USR System audit - Authorizations

ASR1002-x Security License just for SSH?

Hi, we are about to buy Cisco ASR 1002-X router, By default it comes with IPBASE License.
As per PCI we shouldnt be using telnet to access router, but as per research IPBASE dont support SSH.
so does that mean i will need to buy Security license just to enable SSH feature on router for remote management ? :-s
please guide, if my assumptions are wrong.

SSH support depends on the IOS you've downloaded. Make sure the IOS filename contains "k9". If the filename doesn't contain "k9" then it doesn't support SSH.

Cisco ISE licensing...

seeking help to reduce our ISE licensing cost, actually we are out budget and we planning to order ISE licenses less than what we required, and looking for efficiently using the same, is there any way, i mean if we reduce "user idle timeout" is it reduce our license consumption?

License Count
A Cisco ISE user consumes a license during an active session. Once the sessions has ended, ISE releases the license for reuse by another user.
The Cisco ISE license is counted as follows:
A Base, Plus, or Advanced license is consumed based on the feature that is used.
An endpoint with multiple network connections can consume more than one license per MAC address. For example, a laptop connected to wired and also to wireless at the same time. Licenses for VPN connections are based on the IP address.
Licenses are counted against concurrent, active sessions. An active session is one for which a RADIUS Accounting Start is received but RADIUS Accounting Stop has not yet been received.

ISR Security License

I am going to order ISR 3925 with NPE IOS and NPE Security license. Will it be possible to upgrade NPE security license with Encryption support after ordering, without any charge ?

CBAC is not supported on the 4451-X.
IOS Zone-based firewall is supported.

Remote desktop connection blocked by cisco security agent

Hi,
I have a deployment of a Management Center for Cisco Security Agents 6.0.2 and i just noticed that the agent is blocking the remote desktop connection to the hosts, the agent installed on the server shows me the event but i'm not able to see it logged on the Management Center (i can see logged any other events), i'm not sure what rule should i enable in order to allow this connection.
Do you have any ideas???

Remote desktop connection uses the highest possible security level encryption method between the source and destination.
In Windows Vista or later versions of Windows, the remote desktop connection uses the SSL (TLS 1.0) Protocol and the encryption is Certificate-based.
TS Gateway can also make the connection more secure, enhance security, see detailed information in this link

With Cisco Secure ACS For Windows TACACS+, authentication fails with AD

I am setting up a Cisco Secure ACS 4.2 server to act as a TACACS server for Switches and Routers I am using Windows 2003 server for the ACS,
and a Windows 2003 Active Directory server. The AD server is fine, as it is used for many other things.
I have set up ACS as defined nit he installation guide, including all the steps in the 'Member Server' section of the install guide
when using AD as an external database (i.e. setting up the services to run with a domain admin account, setting up a machine called 'CISCO'
on the domain etc).
I've set the unknown user policy to use the Windows database if the internal database doesn;t contain the user details.
If I add a user to the internal database, the authentication goes through fine, with an entry in the 'Passed Authentications' log,
02/24/2010,05:07:03,Authen failed,eXXXX,Network Administrators(NDG) ,X.X.X.X,(Default),Internal error,,(geting error message as INternal Error)
I've scoured google etc, and just cannot come up with any reason why this should be happening.
I've followed all the install guides to the letter. I need to get this up and running as soon as possible,
so am looking forward to finding out if anyone can help me with this one!

My previous version was 4.2 and it was installed on 64 bit machine hence getting internal Error.
After this answer i have upgraded it to ACS4.2.1 and its started working fine

Do I need a security license to setup VPN on router?

Hi All.
I'm trying to setup VPN connections on 2 different routers and I'm not sure about that Do I need a security license to setup VPN connection on router?
First one is 1941-K9 site-to-site.
Second one is 887G-K9, EasyVPN connection.
Both of them don't work properly. What do I need to check on both routers to see if they're abled for vpn connection, maybe some commands as well.

yes, for VPN you need a security-license.
The 1941 should show the following line:
