Cisco UC on Intel Xeon E7340 2.40GHz

Guys,
As per following link, Intel Xeon E7340 2.40GHz, Xeon x5550 2.67GHz is not supported spec to install Cisco UC on VMware. Can some confirm this?
Is it only CPU models like Intel Xeon E7-2800, E7-4800 or E7-8800 etc.. in in the following URL are supported?
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/UC_Virtualization_Supported_Hardware#Processors_.2F_CPUs

What is mentioned in the link, is what is supported, nothing else.
If it shows, it's supported (with any caveats like restricted performance)
If it doesn't show, we won't support it.

• Intel Xeon E7 4830 for Prime LMS 4.1

Is this processor model "Intel Xeon E7 4830" supported for the installation of Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 in a virtualized environment ?

That CPU type will be fine, subject to the processor requirements outlined in the Installation Guide here.
A new installation should be based on LMS 4.2 however, and not 4.1. LMS 4.1 will limit you to being hosted on VMWare 3.0-4.1 (see elsewhere in the same Installation Guide). LMS 4.2 introduced support for VMWare 5.
There are also a fair number of updated features and bug fixes in 4.2. See the Release Notes for the full listing.

• Intel Xeon E5640 VS E5649 for VMWARE

Hello,
I am new to virtualization and working on getting a server for my lab to try out VMWARE. I am planning on getting a dual processor, 24GB, 1TB SAS, HP Proliant DL380 server. I have two options for the CPU. Intel Xeon E5640 (4 core) 2.66GHZ and Intel E5649 (6 core) 2.53GHZ. What would be better for virtualization? more cores or better clock speed?
Initially I will be installing lab Cisco Call manager on this server. Later I might add few more VMs.
Thank you

I would choose more core
Most of the time speed ins't an issue for lab
You just need to run more VMs

• Installing Windows 7 (64 bit) in MacPro 2.6Ghz Intel Xeon - Impossible?

There is a list of machines on which Bootcamp apparently does not suport Windows 7 - and lucky me, having purchased my copy of 'ultimate' it looks as if mine is one of them.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986
According to the list "*Mac Pro (Mid 2006, Intel Xeon Dual-core 2.66GHz or 3GHz)* " is not supported - now mine is mid 2007, not 2006, but it isn't clear whatis meant there - but I'm thinking it probably means from mid 2006 until the end of production of the 2.66Ghz Intel Xeon Dual-core model. Correct?
But, has anyone managed to get Windows 7 onto one of these, with or without BootCamp - if so, how?
When I use bootcamp, put the 64 bit disc in the drive, it then gets as far as trying to boot from the DVD, and gives a message:
1
2
*Select CD-ROM Boot Type:_*
at this point the keyboard (as supplied with the Mac Pro, apparently important) does not work, nor does a PC format keyboard, so there is apparently no way to select an option, and I wouldn't know which of 1 or 2 was the correct boot type anyhow. The disk sticks and can only be ejected by pulling it out of the casework and pressing the usually concealed button on the drive.
Any pearls of wisdom gratefully received - or do I need a newer Mac Pro for W7?
Thanks. Stephen.

I'm experiencing exactly the same. Found some articles about re-burning the DVD but it hasn't helped.
My suspicion is that the BIOS (or mac equivalent) does not support booting 64bit OS. I remember trying to force OSX Leopard to boot 64bit and it wouldn't work. I can't recall the exact issue, but I suspect its similar.
I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in a Fusion VM - but not bootcamp - just a regular old VM. So far that is fine. Its not done yet but it is loading.
It may be as simple as a BIOS update - but as far as I know - there are none for my Xeon 3GhZ based system.
oh well.

• Importing to Mac Mail Tiger 10.4.8 (intel xeon) From Netscape (7.2) mail

Importing to Mac Mail Tiger 10.4.8 (intel xeon) From Netscape (7.2) mail.
I can import old mail from Netscape 7.2 into Mac Mail Tiger 10.4.8. And most old mail back from 2002-2004 is imported but starting around MARCH 2005, no more mail is imported. That is out of 10-15 folders imported INTO the "import folder" each new folder contains, older mail but only a few from 2005, and nothing from after march 2005. (perhaps when switched from NS 7.1 to 7.2?? don't know) But in any case viewing with NS mail shows the files and attachments, but they DO not import to Mack mail. (one oddity when viewed in NS mail, if the priority column to be "normal" then they are imported. If empty then not imported.)
Any ideas how to get the rest of this mail into Mac Mail?
thanks

I simply DID NOT have the correctly dated BACKUP SET!
So NOW with all the data, properly in my Netscape Mail "local folders" I can easiliy (but slowly) convert them to Mac Mail.
Sorry for pulling the trigger too soon, It works perfectly if I use the proper backup data.
DUH! on me!

• System crashes when attempting to install 10.6. Keeps asking to restart. Computer is a Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor and 2 GB Memory.

I have tried to install 10.6 and when install is complete it says restart. The computer restarts but keeps coming to a gray screen with a small black box that says to restart. The processor is 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon with 2 GB of memory. This should be more than adequate. Any ideas? Has anyone encountered this before? I had to restore 10.5 from Time Machine.

Your sig line says iMac, but TMK no iMacs were ever made with 2x2.66 GHz processors. Is this a Mac Pro you are installing on? Are you using a retail Snow Leopaard DVD?

• I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run.

I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run. I tried 7.0.4 and 7.1.2, both from Apple software update and both crash during "loading themes". I am reluctant to upgrade OSX from 10.7.5 because I do not want to loose Final Cut Express 4.0.1. Apple Care no longer supports iDVD. I want a version if iDVD that supports Chapter markers as in iDVD 7.?.? that i used with my old (now deceased) Apple Power PC Mac Pro.

iDVD 7 should work fine with 10.7.5. Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

• Best graphics card for MacPro 5,1- 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon OS 10.6.8

Hi everyone.
I have a 2011 MacPro 5,1- 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. 32GB RAM OS 10.6.8 with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.
When I output/process/convert video through Quicktime or iMovie or Adobe Premiere or VisualHub (not always, but usually WS multi-pass H264, best quality), it seems to take forever.
Currently (as I type this) outputting a 2 hour movie made of 14 clips of 852x480 30fps 44KHz movies to a 29.97 multi-pass H264 48KHz file with Adobe Premiere CS 5.5.2- is coming up on 10 hours.
I would like to upgrade to a better graphics card with better VRAM and processing power. I realize that being on OS 10.6.8 may create a few problems. I'm willing to upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 if need be. Though I'd hate to lose the carbon programs that I still use (like VisualHub).
I've heard that nVidia is the way to go, but I'm not sure which card to get. The Quadro FX 4800 looks promising (and expensive).
Anyone have any insight?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dual or triple boot until you are sure if Lion or ML works.
GTX 570 2.5GB VRAM $320 from MacVidCards is one way to go, even GTX 680 (but that does require 10.8.x)
Nvidia 4000 (I thought I read Nvidia has a 5000 Quadro) not the older 4800. Amazon has Q4K $800.

• Oracle installation on Windows 64 bit with Intel Xeon

Hi!
we have Windows Enterprise Server SP2 64 bit with Intel Xeon processor and would like to install the SOLMAN with Oracle.
According to the original Oracle-DVD from SAP there are only three possible choise entries:
a) AMD64
b) IA64
c) I386
But I have the feeeling it should be one choice like "x86" is not?
Which one should we apply?
The I386 can be installed indeed, but we are getting the error during the SAPINST-Installation "Oracle software not installed". I thought this entry was only for 32 bit?
The IA63 Bit can not be installed.
Only the AMD64 we could install. But the question is, whether AMD is the same to Intel Xeon?
Thank you very much for any useful help/comments...
regards

AMD64 is the correct one.
IA64 is "Intel Itanium-2"
I386 is generic "Intel Pentium (32bit)"
AMD64 is the generic term for processors supporting EM64T (Intel) or AMD Opteron

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Try trashing them in Safe Mode, reply if that doesn't help.

Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

• Running 10.6.8 on Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66GHz processors. Can I upgrade to Lion 10.7

I've just upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intell Xeon, 2.66GHz. Is it possilbe to upgrade to Lion 10.7 with my Mac Pro Dual Core or have I just hit my ceiling on 10.6.8 update ?

Mac Pros are not PowerMacs. In 2006, Apple changed all its cheesegrater enclosure Macs to have the Xeon chip installed, and changed the name to Mac Pro at that that time from PowerMac G5. That said, all Mac Pros can upgrade to a minimum of 10.7.5. Only the earliest ones can't upgrade to 10.8 and above. 10.7 and later do not have Rosetta, the ability to run PowerPC (pre-2006) applications natively. For other pitfalls, read this tip.

Why is the build to order 12 core processor limited to 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon "Westmere" processor?

if you look at apples online store; you'll see there is no options to buy / upgrade the CPU at a later date. The online store dose offer: RAM, Graphic Cards, Hard Drives, Raid Cards, Fiber Cards.
The 12 core machine is two 6-Core "Westmere" processors
The 8 core machine is two 4-core "Westmere" processors
The 4 core machine is one 4-core "Nehalem"
The Westmere is a improved variation of the nehalem. With great price performance ratio.
Westmare allow for 12 cores. The Westmere has 3 times faster AES, pages up to 1GB, and improved VMX. (better encryption and virtualization)
With two more cores, there is one third more heat. To compensate for more heat the processor runs at a slightly slower speed. You still get better performance; because you have more cores. When not all cores are in use, the other cores can actually run faster then the chip is rated.
