Cisco Unity 4.2 to Unity Connection 8.5...patch needed?

Hello All,
I would like to upgrade my Unity 4.2 to Unity Connection 8.5....(the latest version) however, I'm unsure if I need to do any upgrades on my Unity server first before I run the COBRAS tool and export the data. Is this a direct upgrade or do I need to do any patching on the unity server?
I've tried to read through the Upgrade guides but, I'm having a hard time getting a direct answer.

David has the correct answer there. But also, if you can, do not touch your existing 4.2 server. The last thing you want to do is repair a perfectly working Unity server because you wanted to patch it. You can install COBRAS on it to export the data no issues. If its a very large enviroment, Id even go as far as creating a DIRT backup of the Unity 4.2, and a new build of Unity 4.2 offline and DIRT restore so you can work with the data offline from the network. Some enterprises have crazy change controls and it may save you time in the end, even though it will take a little bit of time build the lab offline. If you havent used COBRAs, it will take you some time to get used to the import/export on what you want to do, how you want to do it, and how much time it will take to do the work. The Help files are extremely helpful, along with the Videos posted at ciscounitytools.com

Unity 7 upgrade to Unity Connection 10.5

Hello,
We need to complete an upgrade from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 10.5. Note: This is UNITY 7 and not Unity Connection 7. I understand that this will involve using the COBRAS tool to perform the upgrade.
The challenge is that no ESW/UCSS contracts exist, so of course the upgrade will have to be purchased. The upgrade guide for Unity Connection 8.x provides information on the process of migrating from Unity to UCXN however the upgrade guide for UCXN 10.5 does not. My question is whether or not it is possible to upgrade from Unity 7 directly to UCXN 10.5 in order to save from purchasing UCXN 8 (which may not even be possible anymore due to end of sale)?
Any info you may be able to provide to assist with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the COBRAS tool to take a backup from Unity 7.0 and restore it on Unity Connection 10.5. Consolidated Object Backup and Restore Application Suite (COBRAS) is a set of tools designed to allow administrators to backup all subscribers, call handlers, interview handlers, public distribution lists, and schedules and to restore some or all of that information onto another Unity or Connection server. It is specifically designed to allow for partial restores, restores onto different versions or products than the version that was backed up, and “merges” of data from multiple system backups.

Cisco CSS not NATing FTP 'data' connection

I have a CSS11501 that load balances traffic to 4 FTP servers.
2 of the 4 servers also initiate outbound FTP connections (Active mode) to other servers on the internet.
(When I talk about these 2 servers initiating a FTP session from behind a CSS I will refer them as 'client' to avoid confusion.)
Inbound FTP traffic to all the servers work fine. The outbound Active mode FTP traffic from the 2 client is failing (passive FTP works).
I have defined both the 'content rules' and 'groups' (source groups) for these connections.
But what I see on the PIX is this:
PIX515-active %PIX-4-406002: FTP port command different address: 10.1.1.15(10.1.1.16) to xx.xx.xx.70 on interface inside
I believe this dropped packet on the PIX is the acknowledgement 'ACK' packet from the client(sitting behind the CSS) to the connection attempt from the server (on the internet) for the 'data' connection. And basically the CSS is not translating the source address of the client from 10.1.1.16 -->10.1.1.15(VIP) for this acknowledgement 'ACK' packet.
Here is the relevant config:

Inbound FTP works fine without any issues. Even outbound FTP (passive mode) works fine.
However active mode FTP fails and I see this error on the PIX:

What am I missing here to get active mode connections to work with the CSS so that machines sitting behind the CSS can initiate active mode FTP connections? Do I need a content rule for the "data" connection as well???

For active FTP to work, the CSS need to inspect the FTP control connection and nat the PORT command.
The CSS is told to do ftp inspection when you configure the 'application ftp' command.
But for connections initiated by the servers, the traffic does not hit any rule and no inspection is to be done.
Therefore the CSS will only nat the ip header.
You could try to configure an ftp content rule with no vip address - to catch all ftp traffic and use a service pointing to your default gateway in transparent mode.
Then configure 'application ftp' to force ftp inspection.
It may work.
Haven't tested so.

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

2. The phone wont even turn on!!!

If the phone wont turn on it sounds like it needs to be charged. Plug it into a charger and wait about 15 minutes and try turning it on while still charging. Have you tried holding in your home button with the on/off button held in? Hold them both together until the apple logo comes up and then release them. The screen will blink off an on while it is resetting. I still think this is a battery issue. Good luck~

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, is not iCloud compatible. You need to upgrade to Lion, Mac OS X 10.7, via a download from the app store...$29 (US), provided you had at least 10.6.6. You can upgrade to 10.6.8 for free as part of the software updated function, then go to the app store and purchase the Lion download.
When you do that, before installing Lion, make a copy of the Lion Installer from the Applications folder where it downloads to some other location, such as your Documents folder, so you have a backup copy.
For Lion you must have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7, or Xenon processor, 2 GB memory though 4 GB is better and 7 GB free space on the hard drive.
As part of 10.7.2 you end up with the iCloud connection.

No T.37 fax support / Unity fax tools in Unity Connection?

I'm moving from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 9.1
In unity we used the T.37 inbound fax / unity fax (ie Fax is sent from router running .tcl scripts as e-mail + tiff into central mailbox. Unity moved fax into specific mailbox based on DNIS matching "faxId" setting on unity mailbox).
It appears as though this is not supported in Unity Connection, is this correct?
I am think the workaround is to set the destination mailbox directly on the dailpeer on the router by specifying an individual target mailbox as the smtp destination (rather than sending all to a central mailbox for unity fax service to move). The only downside to this appears to be the admin for setting new fax, or moving the mailbox delivery destination now relies on changing the SMTP address specified in the router config, instead of changing the faxid with the Unity/Unity Connection GUI.
Is this how others have addressed this situation? (I have a limited number of inbound faxes only, no outgoing - so wont be looking at full-blown fax server).

I know how T37 is, sometimes is really difficult to get support for this. On CUC is the integration is not supported by Cisco, but you can try this:
- You can use T37 to send messages to CUC subscriber
- To do it [email protected], on CUC subscriber. If the gateway IP has been added as the fax server in Unity Connection, it should show up in the users web inbox as a fax message since it has the TIFF attach.
But I'm not sure if this works and Cisco does not support it.

Upgrade Unity 7.02 to Unity Connection 9.1.2

According to the Cisco document, we chose 'Flash Cutover' to migrate the configuration and data. We also, want to install the Unity conneciton on a virtual server during the upgrade. Can I migrate the old license or I have to purchase a new license for the new Unity Connection server?

it is a major upgrade.Thus, u need to have different license file .To get the same , u need to have a valid ESW and UCSS contract.
