Cisco VPN and Microsoft Virtual PC (xp mode under Windows 7)

I've installed XP under my users Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise.  Unfortunately I set up networking for DHCP so that the host and guest (too much vmware :) )  get two different IP's.
So with Cisco anyconnect, I can't get the guest (i.e. the Win xp vm) to connect correctly.  I want to change networking back to bridged and try that, but for the life of me I can't find where the settings are.  I'm thinking that bridged (where
I don't have to try the Cisco client in the vm might work better)
But I"m in the US
My users in Australia
and right now I can't get remote tools to work on the host and talking this guy through it on the phone is not pleasant.
Are there instructions somewhere, and where is the full downloadable documentation for this product. I can find online, can't find a full downloadable copy

Bridged networking is what VMWare calls it and it works basically the
same as the way you don't like here. The guest will interact with the
NIC on the host and from the outsie it will present a second channel
with a different MAC address. This channel will acquire an IP address
of its own from the DHCP server.
But no matter what you do, the host and guest will NEVER EVER get the
same IP address!
Additionally, Cisco VPN by design will shut down ALL other network
interfaces when it connects the tunnel so the computer running Cisco
VPN will be effectively disconnected from the local network and
INSTEAD connected to the remote network. You cannot share this VPN
tunnel to another local computer and this includes the host.

  • Cisco NAC and Microsoft NAP

    Dear all,
I need to know what are the differences between Cisco NAC and Microsoft NAP ?
Can NAP be used instead of NAC or not ? why ? why not ?

I really do not know if you will find the answer that you are looking for. From what I remember NAP was an option that was available with the ACS via a special patch. This is only supported for vista clients if memory serves me correct.
Here is the link that will help you with the basics.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ns466/index.html
We do not get much case volume or exposure to the NAP solution and with ACS 5.2 and ISE around the corner it might be too late to go through this setup and then run into issues with acs 4.2 possibly hitting eol/eos.
    Thanks,

  • What plug in do I need to open files in virtual pc xp mode on windows 7?

I am unable to open CS 2 In Design files in virtual pc xp
mode on windows 7 - even tho it says I should be able to.
It says under 'content manager' check for the right plug ins
or upgrade to the latest version of in design.
What plug in do I need?
Or should I send windows 7 professional with xp mode back??

More than likely these are CS3 or later files and the latest version you have installed is CS2. Without a newer icon handler from a more recent version, the CS2 icon will be displayed for anything newer than CS, and Windows itself has no clue that any version of ID other than the last one installed is associated with the file type.
As Jongware points out, this is the typical error for trying to open a newer version file.

  • I have an airport extreme with a HP Folio laptop and cannon pixma MX882 printer. when i am VPN'd in thru Cisco vpn and try to print the wireless print connection stops. i Un-VPN and it prints. then i have to go back into VPN to continue?how do i configure

i have an Airport Extreme wireless router, HP Folio laptop (company supplied) and a Canon PIXMA MX882 wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax.
when i am VPN's in thru CISCO VPN to my company Intranet site I cannot print wirelessly. i have to turn off VPN, priint and log back into the company intranet site.  is there a way to configure the router so that it is not blocking the signal?
    Tx

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • RMI and Microsoft Virtual Machine

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently tring to find a solution for a migration issue to which I'm confronted.
I have several ActiveX components used in a server context to deliver services to a client.
I intend to migrate the whole to Java soon but there's a huge amount of work to do.
I would like to work on this migration progressively. For now, I would like to make a Java Swing Client running in a JRE 1.4 environment. This client is going to connect to a server running in a Microsoft Virtual Machine environment. The client is going to request some stuff to the server and the server is going to obtain the requested info by queryng an ActiveX component (via JActiveX).
The thing is that I need to do this communication with RMI but I wonder wether RMI is supported in Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, is it ?
What would you suggest me to do ?
    Thanx for any help,
    Diego

I think that IBM's AlphaWorks team has programmed an API to make possible to use Applets that use RMI in InternetExplorer4 interpreted by a Microsoft Virtual Machine. But... is this supposed to allow RMI support only in IE4 or in windows in general ?

  • Cisco VPN client & Microsoft ISA firewall client.

    Hi all,
could someone give me advice how to set
up Cisco VPN client to route traffic
to our proxy ISA 2004. We have installed
Microsoft firewall client on PCs but we dont know how to set up routing of IPSEC
    to Proxy.
I know that this is maybe problem of Microsoft but maybe it is possible to do this directly in Cisco VPN client.
    Any suggestions?

Be sure that the Department or organizational unit (OU) corresponds to the Cisco VPN Client group name, as configured in the PIX vpngroup name. Select the correct Certificate Service Provider (CSP) appropriate for your setup

  • Mac, VM XP Pro, Cisco VPN, and Printing.

I have an end user running a Mac with a VM XP Pro Machine that connects to our corperate VPN. This part works just fine. The problems come up when he tries to print to a local network printer. The job just sits until he disconnects from the VPN and then it prints just fine. Does anyone know what to do to fix this? I have little or no MAC knowledge.
    Regards,
    Dan

That's what I figured but I hoped someone would have dealt with this in the past and have a work around other than split tunneling.
    Thanks,

  • Cisco VPN client install fails with Error 1722 on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am having issues with laptops upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
Prior to the upgrade they are running Cisco VPN Client 5.0.05.0290.  These laptops also have Juniper Network Connect 6.5 and Citrix web client installed.  The windows upgrade advisor made no recommendations regarding uninstalling / reinstalling these apps.
I have done an inplace upgade to Windows 7 (Windows Vista Enterprise 32bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit) and after the install the Cisco client is not working.  Uninstalled the client (the uninstall was successful) then reinstalled and the installation fails at Installing Cisco Systems Virtual Adapter - error 1722 there was a problem with the windows installer package.
I have followed the steps for a manual uninstall of the Cisco client and then tried the install again - still not successful.  Interestingly (or not) the Juniper Network Connect also fails with the error The Network Connect Virtual adapter driver is not installed properly.  This also fails to reinstall after being removed.
I tried removing the VPN clients on another laptop and then running the upgrade but the same errors occured when reinstalling the VPN Client.  I have tried the Winfix and DNE patch from Citrix but these fail saying there is a corruption in the application.
On another laptop where only the Cisco VPN client was installed a reinstall was required after the upgrade, but it did install successfully.
On a clean image these applications all install fine, however I have a large number of laptops do upgrade and don't want to do a fresh install and settings migration on all of them.
What files / registry entrys are involved with the DNE adapter so I can manually clear it all out before reinstalling?
Anything else I can do to troubleshoot this issue?
    Cheers,
    James

You should be able to install the 64 bit version of the Cisco VPN software
    Latest version is vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe
You should download and run MCPR.exe first, to clean out any traces of McAfee products that conflict with Cisco VPN.
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
If there is a problem with vbscript registration on the system - there is a fixit tool from Microsoft for that:
    MicrosoftFixit50842.msi
(Using Shrew VPN is a possible workaround.)

  • Cisco vpn and Internet Connect 10.4.6

Today, after upgrading to 10.4.6 and mindful of the advertised feature that the built-in vpn now works with a Cisco server, I tried to use the l2tp/ipsec configuration to connect to a Cisco 3000 VPN service. Didn't work.
I sniffed the connection and found that on connection Internet Connect sends an ipsec exchange type of "Identity Protection (Main Mode)". The 3000 does not respond to this request at all, only to Aggressive Mode. I have tried eliminating the "Main mode" exchange type from /etc/racoon/racoon.conf and also /etc/racoon/remote/anonymous.conf which are the only two places I can find a setting for it. Made no difference.
The plist file for the vpn config does not have any of the lower level ipsec parameter settings so I assume that /etc/racoon... is what is used.
Is there anywhere else or any other way to change the phase 1 negotiation type from Main to Aggressive?
Has anyone got the built-in VPN service to talk to a Cisco 3000 Concentrator with the current OS release?
    Thanks

I found this tip in another post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1738615) - thanks to Alan Snelgrove! - there is a conf file that is generated during the VPN session (in my case only 30 seconds long until it times out). The name of the file is "IPADDRESS.conf" (where IPADDRESS is the actual address to connect to) and it is located in /etc/racoon/remote. If you look there during the attempt to connect another file besides anonymous.conf will be there.
I tried to save this file in the /etc/racoon/remote directory, but the next time I tried to connect it overwrote the file and removed it after the attempt timed out.
I don't know if that helps...

  • Cisco 5505 and Microsoft DirectAccess

Does anyone have a complete list of what parameters need to be enabled/set on a ASA 5505 so MS Direct Access is happy?
I can't be the only one wanting to place a 5505 in front of the DA Server.

If you are using the ASA to perform NAT, you'll only need to allow inbound TCP 443. If you are routing to the DirectAccess server or have the ASA configured in transparent firewall mode, then you'll need to allow inbound IP protocol 41, and inbound UDP 3544. If your ASA and your DirectAccess clients are on the IPv6 Internet, you will also need to allow inbound IP protocol 50, inbound UDP 500, and all ICMPv6 traffic.

  • Cisco IPT and Microsoft System Centre Operations Manager

    Hi All

Does System Centre Operations Manager supports Cisco CallManager OS and Hardware for monitoring?

    Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the links which you have mentioned. As per the Overview of Operations Manager 2007 R2 section in What's New & Improved in Operations Manager 2007 R2 document it is clearly mentioned the below points:
Delivers monitoring across Windows, Linux and Unix servers–all through a single console.
Extend end to end monitoring of distributed applications to any workload running on Windows, Unix and Linux platforms.
The Cisco Servers are also Windows and Linux Based.
