Cisco VPN connection just 'hangs', during connection.

Hello all.
I have installed Cisco VPN Client 4.6.00.0045, every so often when I try to connect it, it prompts for the username and password, which I enter, then it appears to try and connect but nothing, I have left it and left it for over 1hr at times, to see is its just slow, but nothing.
If I try and click on the Cancel Connection option, it doesnt cancel, if I use Task Manager, to end task it doesnt, the only way I appear to be able to 'get the system running' is by restarting the workstation.
My workstation is on a works network, other PCs are able to connect using the same VPN details, so it cant be Firewall etc...
My PC is running XP Pro SP2
Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Have been having the same issue for several months. Similar configuration with XP Pro (SP3 now) using VPN Client 5.0.02.0090.
When the VPN client hangs, the svchost.exe uses up 100% of the CPU and a reboot is the only solution. Sometimes it take 5 or 6 reboots before the VPN will connect.
If I wait long enough after the initial login, I can usually connect but this does not always help. If I wait too long, however, or run other programs before I start the VPN Client, it will hang. If the system disconnects for some reason, the VPN client usually hangs on the reconnect.
I've been looking for an answer to this problem for some time now and this is the fist place I've seen where another user was experiencing the same issue.

  • TopLink "hanging" during connection attempt?

I noted the following blurb while reading the TopLink Developer's guide here:
    http://ftp.unex.es/oradoc/application_server_10g/web.904/b10313/sessions.htm#1142022
"If you request a database connection when none is available, the method waits for the next available connection, rather than time out or return an error."
I'm wondering if this might explain the strange issue I'm having which is: after about 48 hours, my web-app "hangs" indefinitely when going to the database. The thing is: I'm not expecting this behaviour with a ServerSession -- AND it only appears to happen when my app is deployed to OAS 10g. It doesn't occur when I deploy it to my standalone OC4J in Jdeveoper 10.1.2.
I can only seem to duplicate this problem in my IDE by setting the DefaultConnectionPolicy to NOT use lazy connection. (Normally my app does).
So for instance if I do:
    server.getDefaultConnectionPool().setMaxNumberOfConnections(10);
    server.getDefaultConnectionPolicy().dontUseLazyConnection();
    ...and then do
    server.acquireClientSession()
...11 times, my app hangs. But with .userLazyConnection() I don't see this problem.
I've also noticed that when I shutdown the JVM in OAS10g after this hanging problem, it spits out the error:
    ClientSession(xxx)--Exception [TOPLINK-2003] .... oracle.toplink.exceptions.ConcurrencyException
    Any ideas? I'm using TopLink v 10.1.3

The documentation is only referring to TopLink's internal connection pooling. If you are using an application server's connection pooling (external connection pooling) you are dependent on the application server connection pooling implementation, which may be different.
If you set dontUseLazyConnection(), this means that when you acquire a client session a connection will be allocated to it for the duration of its life-cycle when it is acquired. Thus if you pool has 10 connections and you acquire 11 client sessions, the last acquire will block until one of the other client sessions is released (assuming using TopLink internal connection pooling).
In general you should use the default of useLazyConnection(), which only allocates a connection to a client session when it requires one. You should also ensure that your read and write connection pool sizes are sufficiently large to support the expected number of concurrent threads accessing your application.
If you have sufficient connections in your connection pool and are using lazy connections and you application is hanging indefinitely I would suggest you contact Oracle technical support as this should never be occurring and typically a more involved problem to diagnose.
It could have something to do with how you have configured your connection pooling; you may wish to include your sessions.xml or source code for how you have configured your connection pools, and also the thread stack trace showing the deadlock. You may also wish to try using external connection pooling, or internal connection pooling if you are having the issue with external.

  • I have 10.8.3 installed. I use Cisco VPN but this hangs after 57 minutes and 35 seconds. I disconnect but can't reconnect straight away but have to wait about 10 minutes then have another 57 minutes

I use a mac with 10.8.3 installed. I use Cisco VPN & citrix receiver to connect to work via my home wireless which connects & works brilliantly but then hangs after 57 minutes and about 35 seconds. I disconnect but can't reconnect straight away although it goes through the motions but doesn't find a connection. I have to wait about 10 minutes (or restart the MAC) then it connects fine again and I have another 57 minutes. I previously used 10.6 for a while without any problems and then the VPN just stopped connecting? after trying to resolve without success I upgraded the OS hoping that this might fix the issue which it has but created this other problem! I can live with it but thought there may be some way to correct this surely.  I'm not heavily technically minded and have read reports about the racoon service may be causing this but not sure how you do this very simply step by step
Thank you for any ideas you can give

  • IPhone 4 won't connect when trying to dial out, just hangs and hangs at "connecting"

    iPhone 4 running 4.3.3 on AT&T network.
For some reason, I can only make one outgoing call at a time on my phone without having to power it off and reboot it.  When I go to make a call, it will just hang at "connecting" -- I don't even get a "Call failed" or "can't connect".  If I power off and reboot, and I can make a call, but just ONE.  The next one I try is the same thing.  Really annoying!
Has anyone had this problem?  Is it a software or carrier issue?  I've resent the network settings and that didn't help.
    Thanks!

  • Configurator 1.4 hangs at Connect Devices in Prepare screen

The devices show up in the "Supervise screen" as connected. And they show up in Itunes. But when I go to the "Prepare screen" and hit the prepare button they just hang at "Connect Devices".  Have tried through the cart (Bretford) and plugging in individually.
I have wiped all of them and started again.  Same results.
    Running 11.1 Itunes. 10.8.5 OSX. Configurator 1.4

I had a reply to my topic from NYLink with the advice to check the Supervise pane and unsupervise the devices so that you can prepare them again.
What happened in my case was half of my iPads needed a full restore to get iOS7.02 installed - Configurator still had them listed as being supervised, but would not apply any apps to them, and they would not show up in the Prepare pane. So they needed to be unsupervised first before anything else could be done to them.
What I did: I plugged in a single iPad at a time, so that there was no confusion as to which device was which in Configurator - for me, Configurator had decided that all my devices were iPad02. Once the iPad was connected, I was able to go to the Devices menu at the top, and select Unsupervise from the bottom of the menu. After going through one by one, all my devices are now visible from the Prepare pane again, and once prepare was completed they were visible in the Supervise pane again.
    Good luck!

  • Cisco VPN disconnects after a minute or so

I can access the internet with my verizon dsl but I'm having problems accessing my work network via cisco vpn software.  I can connect for a minute or two and then it kicks me off.  I'm pretty sure its something with verizon because I can hop on the free wifi and connect with the vpn no problems
    Thanks

One thing that was updated recently was the antivirus software was migrated from something to Symantec Endpoint Protection.
I have a feeling you may have to contact your tech support at work to see if they have to set a parameter to their Symantec software.  Either that or when they made the upgrade it may have disabled your dsl connection if yours was set up to access our network by havin g the computer supply the user name and password.
When you used to go online did you have to select a connect button on the computer?
Another thing you may try is, select Start> run and type CMD
now type.... ping yahoo.com ......and see if you get a response. If you get a response this way, something in the software is blocking your connection

I have an issue with the connection sequence using Cisco VPN & BT Openzone/FON
I cannot connect the VPN until I have logged in to BT FON/Openzone

It should be possible to connect the VPN first, then the browser

The VPN client connection cannot be established without a path to BT Openzone, which hosts the VPN server.
That`s just the way VPNs work, you have a server and a client.

i have an Airport Extreme wireless router, HP Folio laptop (company supplied) and a Canon PIXMA MX882 wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax.
when i am VPN's in thru CISCO VPN to my company Intranet site I cannot print wirelessly. i have to turn off VPN, priint and log back into the company intranet site.  is there a way to configure the router so that it is not blocking the signal?

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

    Cisco vpn client..

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase

My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase.  The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.

Just as a thing to try, and this is assuming that you all have an integrated camera, please try this camera driver and let the board know the results:

  • Mapped drives do not open after connecting via Cisco VPN Client

I have an issue when I initially connect to my remote network, I cannot get to any mapped drive unless I wait a few minutes for the VPN connect to mature. To explain further, I have to wait 2-4 minutes after connecting to the VPN for me to actually connect to those drives.
The error that pops up is:
"An error occurred while reconnecting to DriveLetter: to \\Server\sharedDrive\    Microsoft WIndows Network: The network path was not found. This connection has not been restored.
Now, immediately after  I connect, I am able to successfully ping the server that hosts those folder locations but for some reason I cannot get to the server via UNC/shared drives until I wait a few minutes after connecting.
Below is the list of error logs I get when attempting to connect to the mapped drives during those first few minutes of connectivity:

Any ideas on what it could be?

I have a client that is showing a similar issue.. Windows 7 computer using Cisco IPSec client terminating on a Cisco 881 Router.  I can ping the server by IP, Name and even access the drive from the start menu option, but not the mapped drive.  Currently I am looking into this from a offline file issue in windows, but ran across this post and was wondering if you had figured this out?  I am going to try the following and will post back if that resolves it.
Doing some research I found that Windows 7 and Vista both have what’s called “slow link mode”.  The behavior is that if the latency of the network connection exceeds 80 milliseconds (ms), the system will transition the files to “offline mode”.  The 80 ms value is configurable using a local group policy edit.
Open Group policy (start -> run -> gpedit.msc)
    Expand “Computer Configuration”
    Expand “Administrative Templates”
    Expand “Network”
    Click on “Offline Files”
    Locate “Configure slow-link mode”
This policy can either be disabled or set to a higher value for slower connections.
