Cisco WAAS Upgrade HW Support

Hi.
I need to upgrade my WAAS solution from Release 5.3.5 to 5.4.1, but I do not find any information about my Hardware in version 5.4.1.
Is this hardware supported on version 5.4.1?

  • WAAS upgrade help

    Hi Guys,
I am doing WAAS upgrade from version 5.1.1  to 5.4.1a on the Central Manager. This would be my first time. I uploaded an image from ftp://xx.x.77.166/waas-universal-5.4.1a.17-k9.bin to the CM. I haven't enabled the Auto Reload. Once I enable Auto Reload check does that software installation is done completely?. After the upgrade is done for CM can i push the image and upgrade the SRE engines?
    Thanks for your reply.

    Hi Vishnu,
Basically you should follow the procedure outlined here :
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v541/configuration/guide/cnfg/maint.html#26348
Since you've already have uploaded the software to the CM (and I assume that you want to use the CM as the "software repository" ) you should do the following :
Remember to create a backup of the CMS database and copy it somewhere outside the CM
enable ftp server on the CM (inetd enable ftp)
optionally create username for ftp usage (pointing to the CM itself)
Register the software image on the CM (see guide) - click "Auto Reload" if desired
on the CM device - click updatenow the software will be installed on the CM and the CM will reload (if Auto Reload is enabled)
Perform the same for your remaining WAAS devices - however I would recommend that :
You use the "Accelerator image only" for non-CM devices (it's "only" 290 MB vs 395MB) and thus reduces the transfer time
Upload and register this image similiar to the universal image
and follow the same procedure for each SRE/WAE/WAVE
If you haven't click the "Auto Reload" you'll need to reload the device yourself ... after the upgrade.
Remember that WAAS 5.4.x is not supported on 274/474/574/674/7341/7371

  • Waas upgrade

    hi guys!
am upgrading waas 4.0.19 to 4.1.1.
are the licenses (enterprise, transport and cm) affected? or i have to reload them again on the upgraded devices?
    thanks

In 4.0.x the license is a paper based and system don't check anything. But, in 4.1.x you need to have appropriate license configured to use the WAE properly. Pl look at this URL (especially under 'Licensing' heading)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/contnetw/ps5680/ps6870/data_sheet_c78-445372.html
    From the above URL
"Upgrade from Cisco WAAS Software Version 4.0
Customers who have an active Software Application Support plus Upgrades (SASU) contract in place can upgrade from Cisco WAAS Software Version 4.0 to Version 4.1 with no additional cost. "

  • Cisco WAAS

    Hi friends,
Having couple of doubts with respect to Cisco WAVE technology,
    1. What are the differenences between WAAS and WAVE, apart from Virtualization?
    2. What are the key functions of Cisco WAVE?
    3. Planning to deploy WAVE 274 or 474 for my branch offices and WAE 674 at HO, the services that this must support are AD, File & Print servers. Will these support with WAVE ?
    4. Do the WAAS virtual blade support the services like Active Directory, Print Services, DHCP, and DNS services?
    5. Is there any prerequistes for Windows server for having the services like Active Directory, Print Services, DHCP, and DNS services?
    6. It would be great if you could guide me with some design documents for the above scenario?

    Karthik,
    1. What are the differenences between WAAS and WAVE, apart from  Virtualization?
WAAS is the software that runs on several different types of hardware:
WAE - Appliance-based form factor that supports WAN optimization and application acceleration features.
WAVE - Appliance-based form factor that supports WAN optimization, application acceleration, and virtual blades features.
NME-WAE - Router-integrated network module that supports WAN optimiation and application acceleration features.
    2. What are the key functions of Cisco WAVE?
    See above.
    3. Planning  to deploy WAVE 274 or 474 for my branch offices and WAE 674 at HO, the  services that this must support are AD, File & Print servers. Will  these support with WAVE ?
    Yes.
    4. Do the WAAS virtual blade support the services  like Active Directory, Print Services, DHCP, and DNS services?
If you run Microsoft Windows Server as the virtual blade, then yes.
    5. Is there  any prerequistes for Windows server for having the services like Active  Directory, Print Services, DHCP, and DNS services?
    6. It would  be great if you could guide me with some design documents for the above  scenario?

  • Cisco WAAS deployment over VSAT WAN links

    Hi.
I would just like to know if you can implement Cisco WAAS on a WAN running on 128 VSAT llinks and if the performance improvement will be very significant. Significant enough to make me change my mind from upgrading the link?
    Thanks

    Hi Tod.
Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful. I am currently researching into the viability of Cisco WAAS as an optimization tool that will increase bandwidth and reduce costs. I wanted to know if you could help suggest any useful document that could help in my research.
    Thank you again.

  • Cisco WAAS Prepositioning 0.0 bytes Copied........ :-(

    Good Evening All,
I am having my first attempt of using the prepositioning function within Cisco WAAS running version 4.1.7a and its not going very well at all.........:-(
We are trying to test a preposition of Microsoft Updates to a selection of Branch WAE devices but the "Amount Copied" is constantly sat on 0.0 bytes and never changes.
Clearly i am doing something wrong and im hoping someone can advise, basically i create the Preposition task via the CM (also running 4.1.7a), i see the root folder i need (which has further subfolders benieth it) and select the folder, i submit this and it takes this with no problem, i assign the branch WAE's to this and its also submitted and accepted, i select schedule for "Now" and the preposition appears in the statuc tab however no matter how many hours its left it constantly sits at 0.0 Bytes - Clear something is wrong.
Doing a "Sh run" on the branch WAE it sees the preposition task at the end of the config but still nothing. I am assuming this is down to the fact that the Data Centre WAE is not loading the files in the "staging" area, the Data Centre WAE has flows for the chosen Server when you do a "sh stat con" and can ping the server by name and ip address.
Im at a lost of what to check next, we are not running the "legacy" WAFS as we first started running 4.1.3b and recently upgraded to 4.1.7a.
    Can anyone help......??
    Thanks in advance
    Craig

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for your quick reply on this, i have a feeling you may have hit the nail on the head already with your first comment...... Doh.
Ill give you an example of how the branch site is setup:-
e.g. (not actual addressing used but gives you the idea)
    Branch Site
    int vlan 10
    ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.192
    ip wccp 61 redirect in
    int vlan 11
    ip address 10.10.10.65 255.255.255.192
    ip wccp 61 redirect in
    int fa0/1
description *** BRANCH WAE WAAS Device ***
    ip address 1.1.1.5 255.255.255.248
    Int se0/1/0
    172.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
    ip wccp 62 redirect in
    ip wccp 61 redirect-list 161
    ip wccp 62 redirect-list 162
    access-list 161 permit tcp 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.127 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255
    access-list 162 permit tcp 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.127
    Data centre end:-
This access-list is then replicated but in data centre but with the access-list 161 & 162 swapped - the 192.168.1.0 subnet is acting as the Data Centre server subnets.
In the data centre the WAE will have an address of say 172.21.1.5 255.255.255.248.
Is there any risk/implication of including the ip address ranges of the WAE devices themselves? currently we dont do this on any site where we have a WAE device and we are seeing great benefits still but i guess this will explain why the prepositioning is not working as the devices are not matching the ACL and therefore being denied redirection.
    Cheers
    Craig

  • WAAS - Bandwidth Management support?

    WAAS - Bandwidth Management support?

Sorry, I had a problem with the web. My comment was:
I know that other products such as Juniper's WXC supports Bandwidth Management. Does Cisco WAAS support it too?
    Bandwidth Management means:
    - Guarantee a minimum bandwidth for your most critical applications.
    - Set maximum bandwidths to limit (or drop) low-priority traffic.
    - Set priorities to determine how the “excess” bandwidth is allocated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Does IPv6 traffic "pass-through" or "drop" by cisco waas?

Since cisco waas is not yet supported IPv6, if i am running IPv4 and IPv6 dual stack mode on the same circuit, does IPv6 traffic get dropped by the waas or does waas put IPv6 traffic in "pass-through" mode and let it goes?  I am thinking, waas will treat IPv6 as non-IP traffic and will let it goes.  Am i right?

    Hi Joe and Kanwai,
One note though - if your running WCCP as the redirection mode, you won't get the IPv6 traffic redirected, as WCCP does NOT support IPv6. Hence you won't see IPv6 traffic at all on the WAAS device.

  • – Enable high availability and redundancy for Cisco WAAS

    How this is available
    – Enable high availability and redundancy for Cisco WAAS appliances in data centers.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
You can serially cluster two WAE devices with the Cisco WAE Inline  Network Adapter installed to provide higher availability in the data  center if a device fails. If the current optimizing device fails, the  inline group shuts down, or the device becomes the overloaded, the  second WAE device in the cluster provides the optimization services.  Deploying WAE devices in a serial inline cluster for scaling or load  balancing is not supported.
More deatils here: Clustering Inline WAEs
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Cisco WAAS Central Manager

Can someone tell me how to deploy Cisco WAAS Central Manager to manage 100 WAE devices over WAN? Is there any additional devices need to setup redundant design and any license cost included here per device basis to monitor? I need detailed solution to manage WAE devices centrally.

    Vinod,
There is no need to buy additional licenses or no need to  add per device license  on the central manager. You can go with the 294-4G or the 474 device , these can support upto 250 devices. However would suggest you to go with a higher model so in future if you expand , you might want to replace the CM that time.
Also a central manager cannot work as a inline or wccp device nor it can do any optimization.

  • Cisco WAAS x Asymmetry

                       Hello All,
I have the scenario below and the comunication between the Routers and Core Switchs are in a load share way witch means that we will have asymmetry on the WAAS below. How can we avoid it ? is there any specific configuration or feature to enable to avoid Asymmetry ? We must keep the inline design as the Routers and Core Switchs are HPN devices and do not support WCCP.
NOTE: Riverbed side we have "Connection Forward" feature to avoid asymmetry.

    Hi,
What i understand from "connection forward" feature of riverbed is that it will switch to passthrough mode for assymetric connections (without this feature such connection will be droped). Please correct me if i am wrong.
comparing to cisco WAAS, which work on different mechanism of WAE discovery (TCP options), asymetric routing will result in no optimization (as end WAE's not able to see each other), but there will be no connection drop.
Now in your setup i see asymetric flow for corporate MPLS. Can;t we modifying routing (only for LAN and still use both WAN) to make a single path (switch--WAE--routerA) preferable.

  • Cisco NME upgrade Urgent help!!

    Goodday,
I have a small issue here i have followed all the instruction on recovery the system software on cisco WAAS on NME.
    I constanly get this error.
Where am i missing it. I have done this before but i cant remember were am dropping it.
Here is the configuration you have entered:
    Current config:
    IP Address: 10.111.18.100
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 10.111.18.1
    Server Address: 10.111.18.24

    Were am i loosing it?
My FTP is running on my laptop and i have directly connected my router to my Laptop.
Should i try using my Laptops IP address as gateway.
I tried to change  the Gateway Address to 10.111.18.24 which is my IP address on my Laptop no luck.
    Still same error.
    where should i be loooking.

    Hello,
    Your process is right.
Couple of issues I can think of.
    1. Please make sure interface LED is showing GREEN and up and running.
    2. Please make sure your login credentials are good.
    3. Please make sure directory path is good.
    4. Please make sure FTP server is reachable.
    5. Please make sure to turn off firewall on FTP server or anything between NME and FTP server that could block the traffic.
    6. Please make sure to provide right IP addresses credentials to NME e.g. subnet mask, gateway, etc.
on the other note, jsut curious to know wy you are following this process?
If NME can boot to any WAAS software image, you can upgrade from CLI in a pretty easier way.
    CLI upgrade process:
Option 1: Using ftp server to upload image and install on the box.
commands to install a new full system image:
        copy ftp install
        reload
Option 2: Uploading image to WAAS and then install.
    1) Download the 4.1.1.x bin image from cco to your computer
    2) Ftp to the wae (assuming that you have the following command enabled on your wae "inetd enable ftp")
    3) Put the image on the wae(make sure transfer is done in binary mode)
4)Verify if the image is present on the wae ,cd to /local1 and type dir and you should see the image
    5) Next type install
    6) Reload the wae
    7) Log in and check the sh ver output on the wae
Please let us know how it goes.
    Regards.

  • BSI Tax Factory Upgrade:HR Support packs

    Hi All,
We are starting with upgrade of BSI tax Factory from 8.0 to 9.0. And as per SAP main note '1469858' for upgrade, the support
pack required is 'HRSP61' but we currently have 'HRSP59'. Also, CLC 61 was applied for 2010 year end activities.
So, with CLC 61 present, would it be possible to upgrade to 9.0 without upgrading to HRSP 61 ?
In other words I want to confirm if CLC 61 includes the Tax Factory 9.0 updates.
    Thanks,

Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core (4cores)) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices. Does this need to be done through the Graphics card expansion or a additional card to be inserted?

No. There is no way to upgrade any Mac Pro older then the cylindrical 2013 Mac Pro to ThunderBolt.
The requirements of Thunderbolt require a totally redesigned motherboard and chip set rather any plugin cards. These motherboard were never developed for older Mac Pros.
