Cisco WAP 321 Quality Superb Worst + RMA Slow

hi Everyone, recently i notice that the WAP 321 quality is superb worst as base on project we bought 13 units of the cisco WAP 321, out of three not even use for 1 months the unit faulty (unit cannot be power UP) but adapter power is working fine.
beside the quality issues, the RMA process also very slow, when we send the unit to distributor for RMA claim, the cisco feedback the unit need to wait until November of 2015, this ridiculous, how u imagine the unit faulty the replacement unit only can send it back to you almost in 9 months time. I really can't believe it, cisco is so worst on the RMA claim.

this is the case number, we are planning to return all the cisco ap to cisco, as our end user and us really piss off with the RMA process and quality of the cisco AP. we now waiting the feedback from the ECS which is the distributor in malaysia.

  • Cisco WAP 321 causes network failure ?

    Hi everybody.
I recently bought a Cisco WAP 321 for my company, but when i connect it to the network, the switch on which I connect crashes, and I lose all connectivity to the network, (internet also). i have to unplug the WAP321 and wait for a few minutes to be able to use the network again.
I'm currently using a small 8 port switch, There are usually 3 or 4 users connected on it. When I try connecting the WAP321 on another switch, only connected to 1 computer, it seems to be working : I can access the configuration page, and make some modifications.
Has anyone had this problem already ?
    Any idea ?
Thanks everybody for your time !

Could you give a little more detail about your network? What is the switch that you are connecting to? The 8 port and the other one. A network topology would be helpful as well.
    Thanks

  • DHCP issues with Cisco WAP 321

I have 4 Cisco WAP 321's in my office connected to our Cisco 2911 ISR for DHCP, everything is fine on the office wifi on vlan 1 but vlan 3 with the guest wifi network it fails to obtain an IP address. I have tried under each of the WAPs to make sure it wasnt just the one nearest my desk. I was on the phone yesterday with Cisco about this and we turned on debugging and watched the DHCP requests and no requests even hit the ISR (only thing I have smartnet support on). I noticed our firmware was a few versions old so updated that this morning but still have the same issues so now I am turning to you all to help me figure this out.
    Thanks

  • Cisco WAP 321 found bug that causes loss of config

I have been setting up a WAP 321 which has been unable to retain it's settings across reboots.
What I have found is that if I leave the Timezone set to USA (Pacific) the WAP 321 can be rebooted without losing config, but as soon as I set the timezone to United Kingdom the next reboot will cause the device to take a long time to reboot and will have then gone back to factory default setings.
To help me determine if I have a faulty unit, does any one else have one they'd be willign to set to United Kingdom timezone & reboot to see if you get the same results?

    Hi Tom,
It seems the exact same problem, described in diferent ways.
For me even if i configure a different management IP and after that reboot the system, the system take much time too boot and my laptop lan interface keeps goind "connected, disconnected, connected, disconnected..." until i turn off the access point off and turn it on again after about 10 seconds.
When it boots is in factory default settings.
When i'm configuring the access point on Safari Browser on a Mac laptop, i have no problem at all. I can change everything and reboot every time i want without losing my configurations.
The problem is only when i'm configuring on a windows laptop with IE9 or Google Chrome.
I will send you an e-mail with my CCOID, serial number of the access point and this description.
Note that this is the second Cisco WAP321 that we have received with the exact same symptom. We have returned the first one and received the second one with the same problem.
    Best regards,
    Vitor Oliveira.

We have installed other RADIUS client on Windows 2003 Server and we have the same error.
On the Web interface of Cisco WAP only can configure the IP and password of the Radius server.
    Please, can you help us?.

  • Client cannot associate to WAP 321.

    Dear Support Team
I have purchased, cisco wap 321 2 days back and configured it. Problems I am facing are
    1. Clients are not able to connect to it. If they get connected and get an IP address from DHCP server. They have frequent disconnection.
    2. User face high latency.
I would like if cisco team can take remote and resolve the issue.
    Thanks
    Deepak Khemani

Hello Deepak, first please try disabling the Bandwidth Utilization found under the wireless tab. If that does not resolve your problem the best thing would be to call in and open a case. At that point then one of our engineers can remote into your system and see what is going on.

  • WAP-321, Captive Portal and Wi-FI repeaters

    Hi,
So I am currently deploying a Wi-Fi Network based around Cisco WAP-321. I use the CP function with a Radius server to authentify my users. So far so good, when a user connect to one of the AP and uses his credentials, he can login and access Internet without any trouble. But I also use some Wi-Fi repeaters (Netgear WN-1000RP) to extend the range of my wireless network in places I can't install an AP. The repeaters effectively extends the range of my network, and I can connect on them without any trouble when the CP is turned off. However, when I turn on the CP, I access the login web page and enter my credentials, but no matter what, I can't login while connected on the repeater. After some research, it looks like I have to manually enter the MAC address in the MAC trough list of the AP. Except such a feature doesn't seem to exist on the WAP-321. I have tried using WDS bridge and Workgroup bridge, but without success, since I think it's only compatible with WAP-321 and WAP-121 devices.
So I am kind of running out of ideas to make this work, and I would be very grateful if someone could help me out.
Thanks in advance, do not hesitate to ask me for more informations if needed.

My name Eric Moyers. I am an Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.
While what I am fixing to share is not in any way a great solution, It can be utilized as a workaround.
With the WAP321, after trying a few different scenarios that didn’t work. I simply created two vlans, leave the Untagged vlan as main vlan and changed the Management vlan to the second. I then attached the guest SSID to the Management VLAN. This allowed me to authenticate to my guest captive portal and get an IP and get out to the internet. The Main SSID still worked normally.
    Now for some caveats:
Problem: If a wireless client knows the IP of the WAP and the username and password they could get into the WAP.
Solution: Setup Management Access Control to an IP outside the DHCP scope for that VLAN and have a Strong Password.
Problem: Management of the WAP321 can only be from an IP on the Management VLAN. (In my case 2)
Solution: Setup Management Access Control to an IP outside the DHCP scope for that VLAN and have a Strong Password.
Not the very best solution, but the only workaround I can come up with for now.

  • WAP 321 best practice

    Hi
I've got 4 AP placed in the corners of the house.
I would like to provide the best possibilities of roaming users which will be moved in the building.
What kind of parameters I can change to set sensivity of reconnection user to another AP ?
Many times I saw that device works with AP with weak signal when available is another with much stronger signal.
Is any way to change moment when device will be reconnected ?
Is this process related to OS of the device ?
Generaly to avoid interference AP in neighborhood should work on different channels 1 6 11.
To configure WDS all AP should work on the same channel. Why ?
Is WAP 321 is salt water resist ?
Could it be install on boat ?
Of course inside of cabin but I can imagine that salty fog or steam available around can be dangerus.
Please advice if I can use this model or should chose differrent ?
    Best regards
    Darek

    Hello Dariusz,
What kind of parameters I can change to set sensivity of reconnection user to another AP ?
Generally, the clients control which AP they want to connect at any given point of time. If you are using Windows operating system, you can set the roaming mode to aggressive where the wireless interface on the device will constantly monitor the signal strength from different Access Points in the viscinity (on the same SSID) and when it finds an AP with better signal than the current one it is attached to, it will switch the association to the new AP.

Answer is included in the link below:

This is typically controlled by the Client Operating System/wireless card driver.
Generaly to avoid interference AP in neighborhood should work on different channels 1 6 11.
To configure WDS all AP should work on the same channel. Why ?
Essentially, WDS is sort of bridging/repeating across multiple Access Points without the need for a wired infrastructure to connect the access points. Since the WAP321 has a single radio interface, it cannot switch between different channels on the fly when communicating with another AP and with the clients. In order for the AP to bridge/repeat data from a neighboring access point, it has to be on the same channel as the neighboring access point and for association purposes, all other radio parameters should remain the same.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_distribution_system
If you have a wired infrastructure connecting these access points, then you can use Single Point Setup to connect these access points in a clusture and manage the channel assignment.

  • WAP 321 Losing connectivity

    Hi,
I installed four WAP 321 for a customer at a remote site. They are set to use a tagged VLAN 80 for management, there three additional VLANs used for SSIDs.
    They have latest firmware installed.
LAN setting has untagged VLAN unchecked, 'Green Ethernet' is enabled but I think I have tried disabling it.
Connections are to trunk ports on 3560 with native VLAN 1.
WPAs are in single-point access mode.
All seems to work, but after a period of time, I would guess about 5-6 hours, the WAPs start losing connectivity to the wired ports, I cant ping them and there is no entry on the switchport MAC address table. Sometime I see ARP entries for both VLAN 80 and VLAN 1 (not used).
The only way I can regain connectivity to these devices is to shut the switchports for a while (count to 20;-) then re-enable which I presume hard boots the device.
I haven't been able to verify yet but I suspect these devices are losing all connectivity to the wired network.
I really need a resolution for this, so any help gratefully received!
    Regards,
    Kevin.

For the sake of those that come after me .....
My WAP 321s connected for about 40 hours now so it looks like this is resolved, this looks like a bug in the 'OS/firmware - currently version 1.0.3.4
    To summarise;
In 'VLAN and IPv4 Address' settings your are advised to leave the Untagged VLAN Enabled, and leave the untagged (native) VLAN and Management VLAN as 1.  I haven't established if any one of these settings causes the problem, but certainly changing all three is likely to cause devices to hang within a working day.

  • Camera quality get worst after unlock bootloader

Hi, I unlocked bootloader on my z2, after that I realize the Xreality mode not working, also the camera quality got worst. Is there a way to go back? I tried relocking the bootloader but got no luck. I may not need the xreality, but I really want the camera to be as good as before. Please help, thank you!

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
I'm afraid it's not possible to go back. When you unlock the bootloader, the DRM keys are permanently deleted. This may affect advanced camera functionality as stated here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/

  • Problem with Workgroup Mode WAP 321

Hello i want to setup the WorkGruop Bridge feature at the WAP 321.
The problem is that i can´t choose the the Static WEP as Security. Does someone know the Problem?
    Regards
    Anton Fischer

    Hello Anton,
You will not be able to configure WEP as the encryption when in the Wireless "N" mode. You can only configure WEP in "B" or "G" mode.
    Hope this helps.

We purchased a Cisco WAP 2000 unit several weeks ago. I have had a few complaints that people could not send or receive email on it. I finally started an investigation on this with a guest who has an Apple Ipad. Sure enough she could surf the web and download music and all but neither her ".ME" account or her Gmail account would work. Upon further investigation I found her Ipad uses IMAP. I had to do an internet search for the correct ports and all. I took my Dell laptop and set up one of my Gmail accounts with IMAP and was able to do everything on our corporate network I downloaded email sent email and all. When I took the laptop over and connected to that access point nothing! I could not even look at my Gmail inbox. Now Exchange works ok and so does POP3 but no IMAP. I have never heard of this before. Now the Cisco WAP2000 uses the same internet connection as the other network and goes through the same firewall. I am not blocking IMAP or any IMAP ports. I am guessing that WAP2000 is not allowing IMAP to pass through.
Has anyone out there experienced this before? Is there a way to fix it?
    Thank you.

At the advice of Cisco support I changed the wireless encryption from 64 bit WEP to WPA. I attempted to connect to my gmail account with IMAP and it seems to work. I was able to look at my inbox and send email. I will have to watch this over the next couple weeks to see if it is a fix. Most of the people who connect through this access point are using Mac hardware so I will have to see what happens there.

  • MacBookPro - Suddenly can't connect to Cisco WAP while Windows Users Can

    Hi,
My partner and I, both consulants, use MBP's. At one of our client's sites, our MBP's suddenly stopped being able to connect to the wireless network there. We believe this started happening shortly after installing a regular security update last February.
The odd thing is, we can go to another building where there is another access point, same make and model, same SSID, which we can connect to with no problem.
Meanwhile, since we are the only Mac users, and are mere consultants, the local IT guys don't bother to check it out.
We get the "There was an error joining the Airport network "<network name>" error message. We have double checked and know we have the right WEP keys. I don't remember off hand the strength of the WEP, but it's pretty simple and straight forward, and must be the same as the other WAP since all the Windows users can go between locations without having to reconfigure.
I've been to the genius bar, and they haven't seen any reference to this any where in the KB or on any of the forums.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    -ktb

My partner called Apple Support today after downloading a security update he hoped would address the problem (but to no avail). He managed to reach someone who knew something about the problem.
The support staffer indicated that there was a known issue connecting with some Linksys WAPs (and since Cisco now owns Linksys, they are probably using the same chip sets in some products). Even though the staffer acknowledged that the problem was caused by a security update, and thus was a software problem (confirmed by the fact that we can connect when we boot windows in Boot Camp and are able to connect), they said there was nothing they could do - not even offer a way to downrev our airport firmware.
This is the kind of support I expect from the Evil Empire in Redmond, not Steve and company. Feh - success breeds contempt.

  • Cisco Jabber for Mac 9.2.1: slow to register with CUCM

    Hi,
We have this specific problem on our Jabber for Mac 9.2.1 client only: the client takes 60 to 70 seconds to connect to CUCM (running 8.6.2) when it starts.
After Jabber registers with CUCM, there is no issue, it's just very slow to register.
Anybody getting the same behaviour? We have no such issue on previous versions of Jabber for Mac version 8 or Jabber for Windows version 9.
    Thanks,
    Fabrice

For those interested, I have the answer to my own question: if one of your configured DNS servers is not responding, Jabber 9.2.1 will delay registration to the phone services. This behaviour is seen only in this specifc version of Jabber, hopefully it will be fixed in the next release. Watch out if one of your DNS server goes offilne.
