Cisco WAP321 crashes entire network

I'm trying to add a Cisco Access Point (WAP321) to our network and every time I plug it into the network, the internet goes down. The Access Point works, but the rest of the network loses internet access. DHCP is disabled and I have manually set an I.P. address and this issue still occurs, so I've ruled out a possible I.P. address conflict. What could be causing this? The network consists of a modem going into a Cisco 5505 Firewall and then to a Cisco switch.

My name Eric Moyers. I am an Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.
What IP scheme are you using on your network? Are you pre-configuring anything else on the the AP before you add it to the network? Can you try to by-pass the switch to see if you get a different result?
If this does not improve your issue, please call our support center and open a case so that one of our engineers can work directly with you.

  • IChat crashing router/entire network??

I've been trying to video chat with others, some in a corporate network as well as friends and family elsewhere.
The problem I am having is some iChat AV sessions I initiate, I can chat and video conference just fine - then there are other times which happens very frequently where I invite someone to chat, and my entire network hangs. I then have to reset my Linksys WRT54GS over and over again until I get an internet connection.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? It seems as though it completely upsets the router and I have to unplug the router's power for around 2 minutes in order for it to come back up.

    News flash:
AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 Special Report follow-up: Changing protocol setting
Troubleshooting the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001: The report offers several workarounds for resolving the most pressing problems apparent after the update, particularly lapses in connectivity and inability to connect to wireless networks.
Finally there are signs indicating that a workaround not mentioned in the report -- setting Base stations or third-party wireless routers to 802.11g only -- can have eliminate some dropouts and other issues.
Change of this setting can be accomplished with the AirPort Admin Utility (located in Applications/Utilities).
Open the AirPort Admin Utility, and click on your desired Base station on the left-hand pane, then select "Configure." Go to the "AirPort" tab at the top. Next, find the "Mode" pop-up menu, and select 802.11g-only. Of course, you will need a Mac with an AirPort Extreme or other 802.11g-compatible wireless device in order to connect to the Base station.

  • Cisco WAP321 hangs with WDS

    Hi,
I bought nearly a year ago two WAP321 and I'm having some problems with one of them. A couple of months ago I bought a WAP121 to increase coverage area of my WAP321 and I set up a WDS between 321 and 121. It works fine and the interfaces are up. The problem is that between 2 days to a couple of weeks, the WAP321 crashes and wds link goes down, and Ethernet so does. (Ethernet is active but no response to ping is given and web cli doesn't responds too). The only way to solve this is restarting the AP.
    The topology is the following

I tried multiple versions of the software. I'm currently with 1.0.3.4. I have the feeling that is more stable than 1.0.4.2. With both versions, the same problem.
Also notice that there are 2 VLANs on the network.

    Hi Nicolas,
I still have problems with one of my WAP321. I haven't discovered anything else so far. What I have observed the last days, is that the AP restarts itself after crash or whatever. A couple times I have logged in the web interface I have seen uptime around 5 hours with noone having restarted the AP. Really strange.
The one that runs properly, is at version 1.0.4.2 and I've had any problems with it. Their configuration is the same except from the WDS.
There's quite a lot of people with similar problems. Hope that Cisco solves this via software update the sooner. The last software version dates from August...
I will have to do a bigger deployment and I'm seriously thinking to go with Aironet 1600. They are much more expensive but its stability and performance should be better. I don't want to have stability problems and this Small Business series are giving me too much headache.
This holidays I will have time to do some different tests to the AP and try do discover what makes it crash. I'll post everything relevant I find! If someone knows something, please, help!
    Sincerely,
    Àlex Roig

  • Latest Apple TV Kills entire network connection

I was super excited to purchase my first Apple TV, until I hooked it up. I have found if I use it wirelessly, it will kill my entire network within a short amount of time. 10-15mins. After that time, no computer can access anything on the internet, and the Apple TV will not find the library again after I finish watching whatever was playing. But, everything runs smoothly until that point. It finds the library, internet access through ATV is fine, remote app on my iPhone works fine, it's beautiful! …for a short time.
Through troubleshooting that issue, I found if I connect via ethernet, it will not find my iTunes library at all, but it will connect to the internet just fine. ????
I've found a few random things on the web related to this, but they are all in reference to old ATV models, and I cannot seem to come across any posts mentioning my exact problem. So far, I've tried doing the following on both wired and wireless connections:
-made sure my Linksys router has the latest firmware version available
-tried increasing the client lease times on the router to roughly 1 week.
-tried manually configuring the ATV IP to maintain a static address, but it still kills the entire network when running wireless, and will not find the library when wired in.
I've never had problems with my network before; it's been running smoothly for 5 years. I've also been streaming Netflix to my LG Tv for about a year now with no issues. I am totally happy to invest $99 in an ATV-love the concept, love the convenience. But if Apple has something going on where it will only work with an airport extreme, I am not happy with investing $278 in an apple tv when my current wireless setup works just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or how this can be resolved? I really do love the idea of having access to my media wirelessly, and would hate to have to return the ATV.
    Tech details:
Latest little ATV model, library hosted on a mid 2011 MBPro Core i7 running OS 10.6.8 with latest iTunes version. My library has about 65gigs of music and about the same in movies. We have that MacBook and 1 PC runing on the network. I am using this Linksys router: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/wrt54G
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Very similar situation here. My ATV3 is connected via WiFi, but it loses its network connection if the following two conditions are met: it sleeps, and my Aiport base station is turned off any time afer the ATV sleeps. When I power up the Airport again, the ATV does not find my network without either restarting or selecting the network manually from a list of nearby networks.
In other words, sleep is OK only if the network is never powered off.

  • Server 2008 R2 SP1 with RRAS takes down entire network

We have a Hyper-V server (2008 R2 SP1) that is running several DC's.  These DC's are for different domains and establish outbound VPN connections using RRAS to sync with remote DC's.  We have a few of this with 20-30 DC's running on each Hyper-V
    server.
Application of SP1 to the host OS went without issue and everything remained normal.
Upgraded a single Hyper-V VM from 2008 R2 to 2008 R2 SP1 and everything connected to the physical switch went down.  Ping times went through the roof and timeouts were happening on the local physical network.  All Hyper-V guests on all
Hyper-V machines had CPU usage that went from about 0% up to averaging 5% to 7%.  The processing taking all the CPU was the LocalServiceNoNetwork one which is related to packet inspection.
Using the process of elimination, we found that if we stopped RRAS on the Hyper-V guest running 2008 R2 SP1 then everything went back to normal.  We duplicated the same scenario with a different machine...and again, just stopping RRAS fixed everything.
As soon as RRAS starts, the network crashes.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?  I plan on opening a case with PSS tomorrow but thought I'd ask.
    Rob
    Rob

PSS is useless.  They work on the ticket when convenient for their overseas hours and have no idea what is wrong.  They keep asking for the same information over and over.  We've decided to remove the RRAS component from our VM's.  Instead
we've decided to set up a VPN configuration where we use IPSec tunnels for each VM.  This allows us to remove all the RRAS roles and the issue goes away with SP1 applied.
There is definitely something wrong with SP1, RRAS and Hyper-V.  Maybe Microsoft can figure it out on their own time.  It is easier and simpler for us to just remove the component.
For historical reference, the issue seems to be that RRAS with SP1 picks up packets that are not destined for the RRAS tunnel and attempts to retransmit them.  This, in turn, saturates the switches with retransmit packets and takes down the entire network.
Microsoft has absolutely no clue on how to resolve the issue and the techs have so little knowledge in real networking troubleshooting that it is laughable.

  • IOS 8.0.2 on iPhone 4S crashes WiFi network

    Question:
Has anyone seen problems with their WiFi network associated with iOS 8.0.2?
    Background:
I installed 8.0.2 on my iPhone4S and it appears to crash my entire home WiFi.  I have 4 iOS devices in the house: iPhone 5, IPad, Apple TV and iPhone 4S.  Only the 4S has IOS8.0.2.  Since I installed it this morning my WiFi has been continuously crashing, making it impossible for the 4 Windows laptops in our house to stay connected.  I left the house for 2 hours and things went back to normal.  When I returned, the network immediately crashed again.  I turned off WiFi on the 4S and power-cycled the router.  The network came back up.  When I restarted WiFi on the 4S, it crashed.  Turned off the 4s's WiFi again and reset the router.  Everything has been fine now for 30 minutes.  I have Frontier Communications FIOS with a MI424WR-GEN3I router.  Throughout all of the outages, the wired/Ethernet functionality of the router has worked fine and I have been able to access the Internet via Ethernet.

    sstelter wrote:
Sorry, but that's just a ridiculous thing to say. The fact that an issue is intermittent or dependent on other variables does not mean its not an issue.  You have provided an opinion with no data and no help.  If you can't contribute to a solution, please abstain from this thread.
If a device on a network can crash a router/WAP, the issue is with that router/WAP is there is no "crash the network" command within the Wi-Fi protocol.
That's why there are networking standards; if properly adhered to they dictate what will occur when commands are received and commensurately, the only things that will happen.
Feel free to fill out the form and peruse the actual specifications of the protocol yourself if you so choose; there's no "crash network" option.
    http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/download/802.11n-2009.pdf
Whether the router is Apple's or another vendor's, it needs to be able to deal with whatever traffic/commands are sent to it.

  • Help! Cisco WAP321 Roaming problem

I've setup 3 Cisco WAP321's with Single Point Setup turned on.  SPS works great - everything propagates and I can see that all 3 WAPs have the same configuration.
However, I have a problem.  With my laptop, I connect to the wireless network downstairs on WAP1. Then I walk to a remote part of the building where the only WAP within range is WAP3.  My laptop disconnects from the network.  When I look at the list of networks that my laptop can see, it can see my SSID with 4 bars - this is WAP3 (it's pretty far from the rest of the network, and it's separated from the other WAPs by a cinderblock wall).  When I try to connect, my laptop says "cannot connect to (SSID)".
I've tried this with my Windows laptop and my iPad.
When I go back downstairs (I left my laptop up near WAP3 - definitely not in range of WAP1) and login to one of the WAPs and go to Single Point Setup > Sessions, it tells me that the MAC address of my laptop is connected to WAP1.
It seems that the WAPs are not passing my session from WAP to WAP.  I cannot turn on WDS because it says that WDS doesn't work when clustering is turned on.
Am I totally wrong about the way this stuff is supposed to work?  Shouldn't I be able to roam around the building and still be connected?
    Any ideas?

  • Final Cut crashes on network users

I'm running into some strange problems with Final Cut 7 crashing on network users, but not local users. I am a teacher at a highschool. We have a 30 Imacs running OSX 10.5.8 We authenticate users through an Active Directory and I also have a Open Directory OSX workgroup server running 10.5.8. Students Logon through the active directory but their home folder is stored locally. Final Cut is installed locally as well
When Logged in as a Local user final Cut works fine. When logged in as a network user final cut will crash upon launch. This problem is solved by deleting the "Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs" File located in User/Library/Preferences/Final cut pro user data/ . However at next launch this file is rewritten and final cut pro will crash again.
So I'm thinking there must be a permissions problem with where Final Cut is setting the scratch disk. So I look at the scratch disk settings to find that nothing in selected or checked. Final Cut usually sets its default location for scratch disk in Users/Documents/Final Cut Pro Documents. The students have read/write access to this folder. So I set the scratch disk to their Documents, save a Project, and Quit. On relaunch Final Cut crashes.
I have tried setting a scratch disk as an administrator allowing full access to it, reinstalling Final Cut, verifying disk permissions, and shutting down the Open Directory Server. Nothing has worked.
So I opened the Final Cut Pro 7.0 prefs file with text edit and did as search for scratch. I found one paragraph that listed scratch a few times, but I did not find the name of any stored locations. With some trial and error I found that I can delete the word undoedit at the end of this paragraph. Lock the file and Final Cut will no logger crash. A scratch disk can be set inside Final Cut, however the location of the scratch disk is no logger saved and needs to reconfirmed upon relaunch. This is of course a temporary solution to my problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the insight - I did a bit more searching and found that there was a hidden Midi preference set for the GNX, and there was also an old preference for it buried in system file - both are gone and
Voila! Final Cut is now open for business.

  • Cisco WAP321 Captive Portal Redirect

Hi I have setup a Cisco WAP321 as an Internet Cafe Captive Portal. When initially switched on clients connect and are redirected to the Log on page where they can add their name and tick to say they agree with the usage policy.
Works great, unfotunately the next day when the clients connect again they are never redirected to the logon page so cant access the internet.
I have tried putting in the redirect url and if i do that it works fine.
I have checked all my settings but cant find out why.
Anyone know why im not getting the redirect?
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Luis
Thanks for the reply. I have been reading up on possible issues and just need to clarify whether the Guest WIFI has to be on VAP0? I have it configured on VAP2 and as i said initially it works OK and gives me the Redirect.
My WAP321 is connected to a Cisco 887 Router with the Port set to Trunk and the VAP2 is set to Vlan2.
VLAN 1 set to 192.168.192.1 255.255.255.128 and VLAN2 set to 192.168.192.193 255.255.255.224. DHCP scope on the Router is from 192.168.192.194 to 192.168.192.220.
Im back on site again this morning and its working after a reset. Ill monitor over the next day or so and see what happens

  • Flash Player goes nuclear - takes down entire network

We have 10 Windows computers on a  small unmanaged gigabit network with a DD-WRT Linksys WRT-54GS router  and Dlink 2208 hubs, and were having problems with the network dieing,  and nobody able to reach the internet or other computers on the network.  It started happening suddenly.  There are additionally 3 VOIP lines on  this network too and they would be killed.
In  troubleshooting, I could see an enormous amount of activity coming from  one section of the network.  Disconnnecting this segment brought the  network back online and functioning correctly.  Further tracing based on  the flashing lights on the front of the hubs narrowed the problem to  one computer, a new Windows XP-64 bit computer.  When I brought up the  Local Area Connection Status in Windows, I could see an enormous number  of packets being sent.
Close to a million packets per second were being sent from this computer.
Adobe  Flash Player (ver 10,1,82,76) was taking a tremendous amount of CPU  time for an idle computer, and killing this in task manager resulted in  the network coming back alive immediately.
Is this a known problem with Adobe Flash going nuclear and killing an entire network?  I had this problem twice before and was never able to trace it to my satisfaction and now I wonder if this was what happened.
(was originally posted in Flash but I suppose I should have posted it here since it is a player problem)

Yes, sometimes Flash Player doesn't close down when Firefox is shut down.  I didn't find any gremlins on my computer during virus analysis, so can't comment on that.  I suppose I could find the problem site and SWF, but since I didn't develop it, my concern with Flash is that it can get into such a snit, that it can take down an entire network and not just a computer.
My concern is summarized this way.
    1. Was there something else on my computer that caused this problem. (virus etc)
    2. If it is Flash causing this problem, perhaps Steve Jobs concerns with Flash were legit??  (I see Apple has backed down)
    3. Grandma certainly wouldn't have been able to resolve this issue, and most computer users would have blamed their ISP since their internet was down.
    4. How is the average computer user to deal with the complexity that these new technologies sometimes dump on them?
    5. Are we headed to systems that are so complicated that these type of isses become more and more common?

  • Why my server crash the network?

    Hello to all,
    we have:
    - macpro with SLServer 10.6.2
    - some macbook client with SL 10.6.2 (+ VirtualMachine with Win XP SP4)
    - some PC clients with win XP SP4
    - Airport Extreme manage the network and the VPN
Until server was at 10.6.1 everithing was ok.
After updated to 10.6.2 all Win clients (really and virtualmachine) are disapparead from network list and the win PC are unable to open the network places.
All other services (file sharing, imap...) running fine but we are unable to join any PC in the network.
If I turn off the server, all PC appear again in the network list and everithing is ok. If I turn on the server, they disappear again...
    someone have the same experience?
Do you think I need to reinstall 10.6.1?
I'm going to Mac because I detest all win problems, but I'm not so happy!!!
    best regards,
    Marco

I'd guess you have a business or an application to run here, and could infer you're not currently in a position to troubleshoot this case. This based on the relative lack of details around the symptoms and the current configuration, and around the "crash the network" phrasing. Given you have other tasks and skills here, this usually then means calling in somebody to have a look at the local (and malfunctioning) configuration. Few folks around are IP geeks, after all; it's a pretty weird topic area, and one that touches on a great many areas of expertise.
Mac OS X Server is easier to install and manage than most any other server operating system I've encountered, but running servers still requires knowledge of the individual servers and of networking, or some sort of a support channel or support resource, or a willingness to learn these topic areas from the manuals and the web sites and/or classroom training. Your choice here depends on your budget and on where you want to spend your time.
While re-installing and downgrading might resolve this issue, it doesn't strike me as the best investment of time, and (depending on what happened here) it might not fix the problem.

Is there a way for our network administrator to change an Adobe Reader XI Preference (specifically, uncheck the "Enable Enhanced Security" checkbox) for our entire network?

You admin should know how to do that.

  • Virus (?) slowing down the entire network ?

    Hi, my problem is following:
about a month ago, I started to have this issue. Whenever i plugged my macpro to the internet, the speed of entire network had rapidly slowed down. Other computers in the house had fallen to an extremely slow download/upload speed, but my mac speed remained quite well working (except the ram memory, which was in pretty low numbers). When I unplugged my mac from the connection, others' speed went immediately up.I called my network manager, and they told me that my network is sending 500mb to the internet, although any of my computers wasn't sending anything (visibly of course).
I identified it as a virus, so I launched my Mackeeper antivirus, but it didn't find anything! I desperately decided to reinstall the software (the mountain lion version). (maybe it's worth mentioning that I didn't reinstall it from the cd, i didnt get one when I was buying it, it has it somehow installed inside). When I reinstalled it, I once more upgraded the system to OS Mavericks. After these two reinstallation, I again ran my Mackeeper antivirus, and it finaly identified some kind of virus. I eliminated it and for about two weeks it went very well. But now its happening again! I dont want to reinstall my mac, and my Mackeeper isn't finding anything again. How to get rid of it? Please help!

I like the Mackeeper abilities, like cleaning the disc or finding your mac when stolen, ect..
That's a bit like saying you like the fact that your doctor can get rid of the bad humours in your blood by leeching you.
Macs do not need cleaning, and in fact, overzealous cleaning can cause performance problems or even damage to the system. See The myth of the dirty Mac.
As for locating your Mac when stolen, you should know that your Mac can do that already. If you have an iCloud account set up, just turn on Find My Mac in System Preferences -> iCloud. It reeks of scam for a program to require you to pay for an ability that your Mac already has.
All the features of MacKeeper can be done just as well or better by other free or cheap software, and the company behind it has a long history of unethical behavior. It's not something you want to be messing with.
Ultimately, it's your choice, of course.

  • ONe Cisco Prime 3 different networks?

Can one Cisco prime deployment be used to manage three physically different Networks without creating a bridge between the networks. It is imperative that the networks remain separated but they will be managed by the same team so can you somehow use one Cisco Prime without the networks becoming connected

Prime is just a management tool that is used as more of a collaboration tool so you can manage devices in one place instead of physically touching each device so yes it can manage 3 different network as long as those networks are able to reach Prime.
I would create 3 different Virtual Domains for the network and only allow visibility to the specific devices that are in each network so you have complete segmentation.
    Hope this helps!
