Cisco WiMax products and solutions

Hi,
I should need to provide a technical solution to our customer who asks for a WiMax solution to build a wireless campus between a train and  rail station along the railway and also under a tunnel. I am having a look to Cisco solutions but I have some difficult to find the right product suited for custome needs.
For example I didn't undestand yet which product Cisco provides for Subscriber unit, in my case the train. More over I read that as ASN Cisco suggests ASR5000 router, is it correct? I think that it's good for Service Provider but I think it is too much dimensioned for my applicationis, so I'd like to know if  there is other appliances more suited for my application ?
Any help and advices wil be very appreaciated.
Thank you in advance.
Regards
angelo

Hi Angelo,
I'm a TAC guy and usually we redirect our partners/customer to the Cisco Sales Team who in turn can bridge you over with some other parties inside Cisco to get the most out of the discussions. If you haven't tried that channel yet, I advise you to do. Just contact your Account Manager.
And sure, if other people on this forum can help you out, that will be great as well.
Thanks
Serge

  • Interoperability of cisco wireless products?

I've been doing a lot of research on various Cisco wireless products and the options are kind of confusing.
I'll start with my deployment; I have two locations both of which have a manufacturing and warehouse environments (no climate control) and regular offices.
Location 1 needs 3 APs on the production floor and 1 in the offices.
Location 2 needs 5 APs on the warehouse floor and 4 for the offices.
I was thinking about using the Cisco 521 APs for both the production floor and offices and the Cisco 526 Wireless Controller for Location 1.  I figure that will give them room for expansion and keep the costs low.
For location 2 I was thinking about the Aironet 1240AG APs for the warehouse floor, Aironet 1140AG APs for the offices and then a Cisco 2112 Wireless Controller to manage all the APs.
Both locations require WPA (or WPA2) encryption and roaming.
    My questions are:
Will the 521 APs work with the 2112 controller?  For that matter, what sort of interoperability is there with the APs and controllers?  Can I manage any Cisco AP with any Cisco Controller?
Are there any cheaper APs than the 1140AG that will work with the 2112 controller?
Is the 1240AG a good choice for a non-climate controlled warehouse environment?  The APs are going to be mounted on the ceiling which is roughly 50 feet high and I'm going to be very upset if I deploy these APs and then have one fail during the summer 6 months later because it wasn't made for volatile environments.
The 521 APs are only going to be about 15 feet up so they can be accessed with a ladder so I'm not so worried about them.
    Thanks!

Will the 521 APs work with the 2112 controller?
    No.
Are there any cheaper APs than the 1140AG that will work with the 2112 controller?
You could try the 1130.  1140 supports 802.11n while 1130 is a/b/g only.
Is the 1240AG a good choice for a non-climate controlled warehouse environment?
The 1240, like the 1130, supports a/b/g only while the 1250 supports a/b/g/n.  The newer 1260 is controller-based only.  The 1240, 1250 and 1260 use external antennae that's an OPTION.

Please be sure to rate the Answers to Questions

A common question we are asked is 'why is my device not achieving 11ac data rates?'
One of the most common answers relates to client compatibility/capability. To get the highest possible data rates of 11ac (assuming proper distance and RF health), the AP and the client device must both be capable supporting the requirements - 5GHZ, 80MHz Channel, short guard interval, 3 spatial streams. Each spatial stream has a max of 433.3Mb/s (at 80MHz, short GI).
The majority of 11ac-capable wireless cards on the market do not support 3 spatial streams. Most adapters in wireless-capable devices are 1SS or 2SS.  For example, the Intel 7260 11ac adapter used in many devices is a 2SS adapter - therefore it's max possible data rate is 866.7.  Another common adapter in use is the 11ac Broadcom 3SS that Apple uses in the newer Macbooks.  These devices can achieve the 1.3GBs PHY data rate.
This guidance is the same for 11n adapters as well.  To achieve max rate, your 11n AP and adapter must both support 40MHz channels, 3SS, short GI.
Note: The 11n and 11ac standards both define support for 4SS.  4SS-capable devices are rare, so 3SS is essentially our reality.
One of the most useful references for questions related to this topic is the AP Data Sheet for each AP.  Here's the AP3700 for example:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/3700-series-access-point/data_sheet_c78-729421.html
Table 1 lists the expected data rate per MCS Index value by #SS at each channel width and GI. Indexes 0-7 are the same for 11n and 11ac (11n limited to 40MHz channels of course).  And MCS 8 & 9 are 11ac-only 256-QAM modulations.

  • Cisco Meeting Place requirements and solution

    Hi There,
I would like to have a on-site; server based manageable audio conference solution in our organization. We have 1 HO. and 25 remote branches located over the country. The Audio system should work via our data network. We have point to point and MPLS link throughout the network.
Audio conference can be held through outlook express/web browser. If not, we can also opt for 1/2 IP Telephones in each Remote site. The HO audio/conference requirement is for 15 users.
We also need to setup conference/Boardroom VC in the Head Office where all the HO Dept Managers would sit in case of remote site conference meeting. Also note that we have data connectivity in all the branches but Internet connections may/may not be available in some of the remote branches.
I have gone through Cisco unified MeetingPlace and looks like a perfect solution to us. Could you please advise if this is the best solution for our audio solution. If yes, Please advise how this would work and suggest part code and license information.
    Thanks
    Aakash.

This works on your voice network.  There is a centralized server usually located in the same location as your CUCM with a SIP connection between the two.  Bandwidth requirements are the same as a phone call. If you are using G.711, then 60K+ per call. Each participant calls into the system on either an internal number or on a PSTN line with a dedicated phone number(s). The enter the meeting ID and are in the meeting. Beside scheduled meetings reservationless is also supported.   The MP Application Server handles managing the voices in a meeting and is the only server required.
MP runs on specific MCS server listed below and won’t install/be supported on other MCS servers.

    Hi Ramses,
I have dozen questions but will try to restrain myself and start with the most important ones :)
    1. Can cables between IOM and FI be configured in a port-channel? Let me clarify what I"m trying to achieve: if I have only one chassis with only one B200M3 blade inside, will the 2208 IOM and FI6296 allow me to achieve more than 10Gbps throughput between the blade and the Nexus 5k? Of course, we are talking here about clean ethernet environment.
         B200M3 --- IOM2208 --- 4 links --- FI6296 --- port-channel (4 links) --- Nexus5548
    2. Is it possible to view/measure throughput for Fibre Channel interfaces?
    3. Here is one about FlexPod: I know that in case of vBlock there is the company that delivers fully preconfigured system and offers one universal support point so customer don't have to call Cisco or VMware or storage supports separately. What I don't know is how it works for FlexPod. Before you answer that you are not sales guy, let me ask you more technical questions: Is FlexPod Cisco product or is NetApp product or this is just a concept developed by two companies that should be embraced by various Cisco/NetApp partners? As you obviously support Datacenter solutions, if customer/partner calls you with are FlexPod related problem, does it matter for you, from support side, if you are troubleshooting fully compliant FlexPod system or you'll provide same level of support even is the system is customized (not 100% FlexPod environment)?
    4. When talking about vCenter, can you share your opinion about following: what is the most important reason to create the cluster and what will be the most important limitation?
    5. I know that NetApp has feature called Rapid Clones that allows faster cloning than what vCenter offers. Any chance you can compare the two? I remember that NetApp option should be much faster but didn't understand what is actually happening during the cloning process and I'm hoping you can clarify this? Maybe a quick hint here: seems to me it will be helpful if I could understand the traffic path that is used in each case. Also, it will be nice to know if Vblock (i.e. EMC) offers similar feature and how it is called.
    6. Can I connect Nexus 2000 to the FI6xxx?
    7. Is vBlock utilizing Fabric Failover? Seems to me not and would like to hear your opinion why.
Thanks for providing us this opportunity to talk about this great topic.

    Tenaro

  • CWWLSE-1030-K9 Cisco WLSE Wireless LAN Solution EE 2.13 with AP 1242

Dear all, my customer has CWWLSE-1030-K9 Cisco WLSE Wireless LAN Solution EE 2.13 with 12 AP1242 (a/b/g) Radio 802.11g in place. Now he will buy additional AP what type of AP can i use because AP 12xx is EOS.

    Hello Dirk,
AP 1200 is EOS, and customers were encouraged to migrate to 1240 Series (which is also EOS now)
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1200-series/eol_c51-506611.html
Therefore it is recommended to migrate to Cisco Aironet 1600 or Cisco Aironet 2600 Series.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure and VLAN fetch

I have about a dozen systems which are showing up under the Archive Failed Devices section of Device Work Center -> Configuration Archives.  The reason is Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed.  All of the affected devices have something in common in that they are all managed by hitting a publicly routable IP address outside of the network on which the NCS server lives (NCS IP is 172.19.40.51).  To the devices, NCS looks like it is coming from an publicly routable IP address (because it is NAT'd by the firewall).  I suspected that the issue was that NCS was trying to TFTP the VLAN.dat file to the NCS server but that it was trying to send it to 172.19.40.51 instead of the NAT address.  I turned on debugs on one of the affected devices and sure enough I see that the device is trying to TFTP something to 172.19.40.51.  Of course that will never work.  I can find no way within the Admin UI of Cisco Prime to change this behavior such that NCS will try to collect the VLAN.dat file in some other way or use the NAT'd IP address for the copy attempt.
Is there a way to get it to use something other than TFTP?  Is there some way to turn this off entirely so that it doesn't show up in the Archive Failed Devices section?  Prime seems to be able to parse the VLANs by way of the configuration file (since we use transparent mode throughout) so it seems like an extra step I don't need.

    Marvin,
This is where everything goes off the rails for me when it comes to understanding Prime Infrastruction, Prime LMS and everything that you're talking about.  Refer to this link:  http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-management/prime-lan-management-solution/data_sheet_c78-697479.html
    How should I interpret this?:
"Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1 bundles campus switch, branch, core routing, and wireless LAN management into a single, easy-to-order solution that enables businesses and enterprises unparalleled operational efficiencies and investment protection. The bundle consists of:
    ● Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution, which delivers simplified management of Cisco® Borderless Networks and reduces operations costs by aligning network management functionality the way network operators do their jobs
    ● Cisco Prime Network Control System, which provides complete wireless LAN management with converged user and access management, and integrated lifecycle management of branch routers
For more information about Cisco Prime Infrastructure, please visit http://www.cisco.com/go/primeinfrastructure."
Am I wrong to assume that the first bullet point, which states "Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution" is referring to Prime LMS 4.2?
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Best Practice on Knowledge Management, IS01 Problems and Solutions

Been Playing with KM and looking for insight from other users (will give points) using it for ICWC.
We have mulitple product lines where we have documents with Q & A's in each line.  As I look at moving that into CRM via IS01, I am looking for any Best Practices or recommendations.
    1. Create a single problem and solution for every question.
    2. Create a single problem (list all questions)  for every product line and create multiple solutions that are linked to that problem (solution for each question)
    3. Is LMSW a good tool for loading data in mass?
The ICWC search brings back the 1st line on the problem & solution on the screen, meaning I try to limit the characters used so it fits on the ICWC screen, a long 1st line on the problem doesn't allow the agent to see enough of the solution without opening the link.
    Thanks,
Edited by: Glenn Michaels on Jun 14, 2008 9:52 PM

    Hello Glenn,
If it helps, here's a scenario about KB on my company system.
Our call center supervisors are the persons who creates problem and solutions in our KB. They maintain it but don't use IS01 transaction. They use instead  People Centric BSP's for Problem s and solutions (they're integrated in IC webclient with the help of transaction launcher).
Normally, they prefer creating multiple solutions to one problem, instead of single problem - single solution method. This because some questions may have multiple solutions. They could put all the solutions text in one solution object, but for maintainance purposes we think it's better to create multiple solutions object to every solution text, because if one solution becames obsete, all we have to do is unlink instead of changing the text.
We don't use LSMW. I don't have much experience in LSMW, but if you use it, be careful to respect KB interval numbers for problems and solutions. We implement an initial set of problems and solutions in our Development system, and we passed to the Quality and Produtive system, with the precious help of sap note '728295 - Transport the SDB customization between two CRM systems' and '728668 -Transport the content of the SDB between two CRM systems'.
One cool idea to use the KB is using Auto-suggest feature. The idea is to integrate the links between problems and solutions with, for example, service ticket categorization, using BSP Category modeler, and when an agent classifies a ticket, at the top of the screen it will appear the suggested solutions/problems for the classification choosen.
    I think that's all.
Sorry for my poor english. Today I'm not feeling very inspirated
    Kind regards.

  • Re: Rational Rose product and Forte

We use Forte 3.0 with Rational Rose 4.0 since more than one year on a
medium size project (10 developers). I have not tried Rose98 with Forte,
so what I have to say may or may not apply to Rose98.
In general I am very satisfied with the Forte support of Rose. The code
generation facilities are sophisticated. For example from one attribute
in Rose you can generate a virtual attribute and the corresponding get
and set methods which implement the virtual attribute. You can even
change the naming conventions (how to generate the name of get and set
methods). You can also model all components of a Forte application like
interfaces, events, eventhandlers, constants, domain types etc.
Since access to the Forte repository is difficult, Rose does not read
from or write to the repository. Instead you must export a plan as a
.pex file, regenerate the plan from Rose and reimport the generated file
into Forte. Rose correctly preserves the code that you have written as
well as other information like GUI layout etc. Nevertheless this process
is a bit tedious and prone to errors.
Rose can import a Forte .pex and produce a model from it ("reverse
engineering"). This works O.K. but I use it only on small prototypes
that I developed in Forte to get a "first cut" of a model. The analyzer
has only a few global options (for example whether you want to model
object-valued attributes as associations or as attributes). In addition
it names all attribute types and method parameters with fully qualified
class names so that your methods tend to have very long signatures like
    Add(input source:Framework.IntegerData):Framework.IntegerData
    instead of
    Add(source:IntegerData):IntegerData
On the other hand Rose generates correct Forte code if you use the short
form in your model. So I use Rose mainly for forward generation.
I find the combination of Rose with Forte very valuable, mostly because
Forte does not allow a convenient documentation of plans, classes and
    attributes.
If you have additional questions, I will be happy to answer them.

We don't have separate servers for development and production. So we use same control center for running the mapping for production and development, cause of this we are getting some problem while changing the existing mapping.
So we are planing to separate these environment like production and development with in one server and both environment should have the same database and we need to lock the some mapping to development environment which is in live.
Please suggest me how can i follow because i don't have EXP in these area.Hope you understand the situation.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Hi,
I am not sure if we can lock the mapping according tot he env. you log into. I can provide an alternate solution by using different project names and store the mapping into them or using different mapping names to indicate them as prod or dev maps.
From a developer perspective i would suggest u have different environments for dev and prod and as a manager i would like to inform that u have have many audit issues if this goes on.
