Cisco Wireless Cable Modem & Time Capsule

Hi,
I am having problem extending the cisco wireless modem using time capsule.
1) I am trying to wireless extend the range in time capsule but it hit error like "can't extend this wireless".
2) Since I hit error in 1), I try the Join wirelss setup. I can successfull join the wireless network but I could not use the ethernet port.
Any advise, please.

If you have not already done so, perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule (TC) to get it back to a known state.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Then before you hook up the Time Capsule, make sure that the Ethernet port is working correctly on the AirPort Express (AX) by connecting a laptop to the Ethernet connection. Turn off the wireless on the laptop and see if you can get an Internet connection. If you can, the AX and the Ethernet port are working correctly.
Connect an Ethernet cable from the AX to the WAN port (circle of dots or world icon) on the TC
Open AirPort Utility, select the TC, and click Manual Setup
Click the Time Capsule tab below the icons to assign a name to the TC, device password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the Cisco network if you want more coverage under that name
Check mark next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Auto
Channel = Auto
Wireless Security = Exact same setting that the Cisco network is using...if you want more coverage...etc.
Wireless Password + Same password as the Cisco network
Confirm Password
Click the Intenet icon, then the Internet Connection Tab
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings, wait a minute or two, then power off the entire network and restart again, starting with modem, then Cisco, then AX, then TC, then other devices.
If you want the TC to provide a different wireless network than the Cisco, then assign a different name to the Wireless Network Name on the TC.

  • How do I set up a connection from my time machine to my newly installed a wireless cable modem.

Hi, I previously I had an ethernet connection from a non-Wireless ADSL modem to my time capsule / airport base station. I now have a wireless cable modem. My mac book can no longer find the the airport base station and is unable to backup to the time capsule. Can my time capsule be set up to pick to use the modem WiFi? I previously used the Airport base station WiFi but I do not need to do that now.

Your modem is also a router that has wireless built in. It also has Ethernet ports on it. So connect your TC the same way as you did before. I don't thing you can connect the TC to your new modem/router box by WiFi and still use it as a backup point.

  • Do I need to setup my AirPort Express on a modem before trying to connect it wirelessly to my time capsule existing network?

I have an airport express that I used in another location.  I brought it home and want to use it with my existing network and time capsule to do AirTunes.  I can't get the Express to show up in my airport utility to even set it up.  Do I need to connect it to my time capsule with an ethernet cable first to configure, or should it be showing up as a device to add to my network automatically?

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

  • Xfinity wireless/cable modem connected to Apple Time Machine

I set up my Xfinity wireless/cable modem by ethernet to my time machine.  The set up appears to work (2 wireless networks with internet access) but the amber light on the time machine is flashing (not green)....is there some issue I'm missing?

Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page), and a window will open to explain why the amber light is flashing, along with suggested actions

  • How can i extend a wireless network with time capsule

How can i extend an existing wifi verizon wireless network with time capsule? the router is connected on the bottom floor. want to boost the signal to a home office on the top floor, four flights up. connect time capsule via ethernet cable to iMac on 4th floor? Do I have to start a second wifi network or can I set it to just boost the one I have? thank you

How can i extend an existing wifi verizon wireless network with time capsule?
It all depends on what you mean by "extend".
If you plan to "extend" by connecting the Time Capsule to the Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable, this can be accomplished.
If you were hoping to connect the Time Capsule to the Verizon router using wireless only, unfortunately the Time Capsule and Verizon products are not compatible for that purpose.
Check with Verizon to see if they offer an "extender" or "repeater" that could be located very close to the Time Capsule.
This would provide both more wireless coverage and also allow you to connect the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable from the "extender" or "repeater".

  • Painfully slow wireless connection with Time Capsule

I have recently bought and changed over my home wireless to a Time Capsule 2TB, which I wanted for both the backup and the ease in home networking. I have set up the wireless network and since day one it has been painfully slow! I have created two wireless networks, one for 2.4GHz and the other for 5GHz. I have been reading all over the web and boards but to no avail.  Any suggestions? I am about to give up on the time capsule completely! I couldn't even download my podcast tonight.
    Help!

Firstly plug in directly by ethernet to be sure there isn't a network issue on wan side.
Are you testing on multiple computers .. Mac and/or PC?? Which ones. and what network cards are being used?
Try and remove anything that uses G wireless and throw away any B wireless. It will not work together with N even if it is an option.
Turn off the guest network if you have it on.
Have you used a wireless analyser like kismac or inssider for pc? Find the free channels and set the wireless to that. Use no security at first to test.. briefly.. and then select wpa2 personal. Is there any difference?
Do you have another wireless router running?? Were you using a different wireless router for comparison?

  • HP P1102w Wireless Printer will not pair with a Motorola SBG6782-AC Wireless Cable Modem Gateway

I previously had AT&T U-verse Internet using an Arris IPDSL NVG510 Wireless Modem Gateway.  My HP Laptop running Windows 8.1 and the HP LasrJet Pro P1102w Wireless Prnter routinely  & automatically connected to the NVG510 Wireless Network  without any problems over the past two years, and the wireless Printer worked without problems. I recently replaced the AT&T U-verse Internet connection with a 25 Mbs Comcast Xfinity Intrnet connection, using a Motorola Arris SURFboard SBG6782-AC Wireless Cable Modem Gateway.   My HP Laptop running Win 8.1 Pro connects to the Network and accesses the Internet with no problems what-so-ever;  However,  the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w wireless Printer does connect to the Wireless network and I cannot Print at all from my laptop. I have tried all the P1102w Wireless Printer Setup suggestions from the HP Printer Support Site, but to no avail.  I have also updated the Printer Firmware and Loaded the latest Full Product Installation & Driver Software.  I have tried and re-tried these suggestions over the last two days, but with no luck. I would greatly appreciately any help from the  experts  in this Forum.  to get the printer to work wirelessly, since we also  wirelessly print to this printer from  IPads and other wireless laptops.

Hi , I see that you are having issues connecting the printer to the new router. I would like to help you. I would reset the printer first to clear out any previous network settings.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise. Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
Printing a Configuration Page. If the network name has any spaces or special characters, the printer may not recognize it. The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4 ghz band. If it is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 ghz. (rename the 5 ghz or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.Multi casting needs to be turned on.
Firewall on router has to have open ports for printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from Configuration page. You might need to contact your router company for further assistance to check those settings. Try running the Wireless Configuration Wizard from the HP software to configure the printer over the network. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. If you have any issues, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank You.

  • Wireless Printing using Time Capsule

I tried to print wirelessly but I keep getting the message: There is a problem communicating with the printer. What am I not doing?

I have had similar difficulties trying to get my HP 460wbt to connect wirelessly to the Time Capsule. It works fine if you take off any wi-fi security (a useful thing to check compatability but probably not wise to leve the network open!).
I previously used an Airport base station and though I had some initial difficulties I did manage to use WEP security on that and it worked faultlessly with any computer attached to my network including Windows XP via Parallels. HOWEVER, I couldn't get WEP to work with the Time Capsule and printer (it worked with the computers) and WPA/WPA2 is I suspect not compatible with WPA_psk (or at least I can't figure this one out!).
The conclusion then is that the wireless card/software security for the printer isn't going to work with the Time Capsule - a pity and rather odd since there is a work round with the Airport base which is at least 5 years old! Why do Apple not make such issues backwards compatible I wonder?
I have solved the problem temporarily by having BOTH the Time capsule and Airport base connected wirelessly - which means a one click change of wireless network to print - but hey-ho it works until I find another solution. Any ideas?

Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?
Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

  • Wireless cable modem

my inlaws are getting a computer for Christmas....they have Charter cable....they want wireless for the new laptop, so I was looking at the Motorola SURFboard gateway SBG901 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless cable modem for them....Charter told them that they could rent a modem for $5 per mo or or buy one from them for $50 and then get a router from somewhere else or, even buy the modem somewhere else as well... Im not real computer savvy but I thought this would be a better solution....than to buy each individually....any thoughts or suggestions

I agree with buying separately for reasons above as well as interference issues.
"Most WiFi enabled access points operate in the 2.4 Ghz frequency range.  This unlicensed frequency range is also shared by many common household and business devices such as cordless telephones and microwave ovens.  Use of these devices within range of your wireless enabled ISP router can cause interference and other negative effects ranging from seemingly insignificant brief Internet outages up to the need for router resets."

  • Connecting a Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear wireless cable modem gateway

I was wondering how i would go about connecting a WRT54GS v2  Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear CG814WG v2 wireless cable modem gateway. the reason I'm doing this is to get extra modem ports and i was just wondering what steps i would take to make it work correctly.

If you are trying to add WRT to your network to increase the number of ports then, you can cascade linksys router to wireless modem.Connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the wireless gateway to the linksys router  on the Ethernet port. Also,if the ip address of the Gateway is 192.168.0.1 then, change the ip address of the linksys router to 192.168.0.2.Also,disable the DHCP and Disable NAT under Advance routing on the linksys router.Power cycle the network and it will work.

  • Networking: extend wireless network Apple Time Capsule to cisco DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem

How should I connect a Time Capsule (4th gen) to a Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 that came with xfinity service to create a wireless extension to network... any  special settings???
Should I use the Cisco or TC for the DHCP controller?

You cannot wireless extend a network using TC.. Apple designed it to only work with other Apple products.. this is not that unusual.. but it is important .. you cannot do what you want.
One network .. one router. Keep the cisco as the main router and plug in the TC by ethernet and bridge it.. that is router bridge not wireless bridge .. you will find the control in the NAT and DHCP section of Lion
Or download the vastly superior older version of the utility here.
