Cisco works as snmp/syslog

Hello folks
How to configure ciscoworks 2.5 for as syslog and snmp server and point all my devices asa/switches/ips to send trap and log to it
thanks

Syslog server in ciscoworks is pretty simple.
> Configure device to send syslog to ciscoworks
> Subscribe Syslog Collector in Ciscoworks
> Set correct filters and Generate report to see syslogs.
When Syslog is recived in Syslog.log(win)/Syslog_info(sol/lin) Syslog collector pics syslog message from that flat log/text file and send it to Syslog Db after filtering messages as per filter settings.
Subscribing Syslog Collector however differs with LMS version. Please see:

  • Cisco Works LMS snmp v3 credentials

I'm attempting to get a switch managed via SNMP v3 with CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 but I keep getting an error.  I'm using the same User, Group names and also the same auth and priv credentials but I keep getting the error:

I'm not sure what I'm missing.

actually the ACS 5.2 is not supported in CS 3.2

  • Cisco Works - SNMP for Pushing instead of TFTP

Is there a setting in Cisco Works I can change for getting SNMP used instead of TFTP for pushing configuration changes?  I recently did a push to over
4500 network devices (routers & switches) in my network and found that Cisco Works was using TFTP instead of SNMP.  Is there a setting I can change
for getting SNMP used instead of TFTP?
Also when I look at running config on the devices, they do NOT show the name of the "profile (TACACS Account)" used to log into the device by Cisco Works.  Thus the Audit function could not pickup the profile that made the changes.
    Currenting using LMS 3.2.
    Thanks

LMS uses TFTP triggered by SNMP.  There is no way to use SNMP exclusively to push config changes.  LMS will use one of either SNMP/TFTP, SSH, telnet, or RCP.  This is set under RME > Admin > Config Mgmt > Transport Settings.
If you are not using telnet or SSH to do config management (i.e. archive, Netconfig, etc.), then the running config will not relfect a username logging into LMS to make config changes.

  • Cisco Works Daemon Manager Service down after deleting Syslog files

    Dears,
Cisco Works Daemon Manager Service is not comiing up after deleting the syslog.log files from NMSroot, al other services are comes up except this.
    please help ...
    Rgds
    Aslam

Not sure what is happening, but I see several services that should be started by the daemon manager, that are already started!!
You best stop them, make sure the services are set to manual except daemon manager, tftp syslog and rcp who are automatic.
Then I suggest to reboot server. If the daemon manager still can start run the resetcasuser.exe  in \CSCOpx\setup\support\   and try again.
    Cheers,

  • Cisco Works SNMP write community string Incorrect

    Hi,
I have installed Cisco Works at my organisation. Under RME -> Inventory -> Import status -> Device Attribute Error: I am getting: Incorrect SNMP write community strings. Even though i know perfectly well the SNMP write community string is correct. To prove that, if I delete the device and then add the same device using the same SNMP write community string it works fine. then a couple of days later, it comes up with the same message "SNMP write community string is incorrect". I have increased the time and retries for the SNMP settings at the ANI server, still it has not resolved the issue.
    Please help

I have sharched the CCO bug toolkit and according them, it was a know issue for verion 3.4 but it has been fixed for Ver RME 3.5. But we are currently running RME 3.5, therefore it does not make any sense.

when i test connectivity between cw2000 server and vpn3030, everything is good, except snmp is not response, while use third party snmp program, snmp status is ok!
when I change the cw2000 server's ip address to 172.16.8.3 and connect it directly to vpn3030,test connectivity between cw2000 server and vpn3030 ,everything is good, snmp is ok.

  • Cisco Works Access Levels

I was wondering if anyone could maybe point me to where it states that access levels cisco works needs. We have some core switches that we only want cisco works to store log and configuration settings, but not necessarily allow it to access to change these. Any ideas? or any documentation anyone can point me to?
    Thanks
    AJ

    AJ,
So you want Ciscoworks to store syslog messages and device configurations?  Not the settings?
For Ciscoworks to be able to retrieve and store the device configurations, the server will need at least SNMP ReadOnly-ReadWrite access to pull the configs from the devices via an snmp set using tftp.  The only other way Ciscoworks can pull configs is through telnet or ssh where it needs access to the enable prompt to get the configs.
For Syslog, as long as RME can classify the type of Cisco device and knows what kind fo device it is syslog messages will be stored in RME.
Again, these answers apply to the clarification question I first stated.

  • Cisco Works Integration with MARS

Can cisco works be integrated with MARS. I mean cisco works is acting as a syslog server for some switches. Can mars pull the records from Cisco Works and use it for its co-relation

As Michael pointed out, configuring two syslog destinations on your switch is possible, and allows the switch to send to both CiscoWorks and CS-MARS simultaneously.  This affords the safety that should one system be down, the other system will continue to receive syslog events from the switches.  Should you not wish to configure two logging destinations on your switch, you could configure your switches to send their syslogs to CS-MARS and configure CS-MARS to relay the received syslog messages to CiscoWorks.  This options is outlined in the CS-MARS user guide:

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 4402 under Cisco Works RME 4.0?

I am trying to manage a Cisco 4402 using non-default snmp communities from Cisco Works RME 4.0.  RME Credential Verification fails with “Device Not Supported” recorded against selected option; however, the controller does respond to snmp queries.  The 4402 has snmpv1 through snmpv3 enabled; and the snmp communities are associated with the correct client IP.  Is the WLC only responsive to snmp from the WLS and should the box be manageable via it’s management interface.  ICMP and telnet to the WLC from RME works OK.
Advice and Guidance would be greatly appreciated.

What firmware version are on the WLC's..... minimum is 5.0.148 per the RME Table.

    Hello Johan,
    debugs show:
      Authentication failure, bad community string
This indicates community string mismatch. Make sure about the community string and encryptin and privacy passwords.
Make sure to enable only SNMPv3 on WLC to isolate better.

  • Cisco works changes ignored when someone leaves config mode

Hi When a user leaves cisco router config mode, a syslog message is triggered pointing to my Cisco works device.
but the changes ignored when someone leaves config mode (i.e., not picked up until the next scheduled archive)
is it possible in cisco works to immediately archive the configuration of router, when someone leaves Config mode?
if yes , can someone guide how to accomplish this?
    thank you in advance

    Hi!
I think you want to use the automatic action for config fetch which comes with ciscoworks, right?
Did you check that the syslog message from the router came to the server?
If yes, is it in the right form? (I think it is)
I have sometimes the problem with this function that the Analyser was full of syslog messages and drops all new syslogs.
