Cisco Works server install

All,
does anyone know the best practise install in respect to partitions, O/S, and what locations the log files should be placed? We recently upgraded from an old Cisco Works platform and now our full CW is broke
So can anyone recommend any best practise scenarios?
We have 4 x 146 gb disks that we could utilise.
Thanks in advance,
Tam.

Is your environment Windows or Solaris? Did you upgrade your hardware platform only or also change from an earlier LMS version to the lastest (4.0)?
Generally speaking, the installation guide has a good number of details. If you follow it carefully, your should have a successful installation. As with many products, when upgrading it is usually most successful to back up the data on the old system and do a clean install on the new, restoring the data after verifying a basic working system.

  • Cisco Works tftp download config

I have a Cisco Works server that appears to be backing up config files from the routers.  If I needed to restore a startup-config, how do I do it?
    I tried "copy tftp start"
But I have no idea what it has named the file, where it is stored, it appears to be stored here:
    E:\PROGRA~1\CSCOpx\files\rme\dcma
But I could be wrong about that, there is an extremely convoluted file directory scheme there that seems to have numbered the devices and has multiple backups of each with no common router name to see.
    tells me:
    %Error opening tftp://*.*.*.*/router-confg (Permission denied)
Probably have the wrong file name since I can not figure out what the file name is supposed to be or where it is.

    Ok, figured it out:
    %Program Files%\CSCOpx\tftpboot
TFTP server will allow you to download any file in the above directory.

I need to setup 7800 Series IP Phones in the CUCM 8.6.2 which by default are not support but will work after install the software. Anyone have document from Cisco as I remember I seen once before.

    Hi Ali,
I'll just add this reference to the good tips from my friend Manish (+5)
Support for the 7800 series in CUCM 8.6.2 was first added with this
    Device Pack;
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    Device Package 8.6(2)(24104-1)Release Notes
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Device Package Release 8.6(2)
adds support for the Cisco IP Phones
    7821, 7841, and 7861 running SIP firmware release 10.1(1).
The steps are in this doc
    http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074299/107528/cmterm-devicepack-8.6.2.24104-1_Readme.pdf
You might as well install the latest 8.6.2 Device pack
    cmterm-devicepack8.6.2.24112-1.cop.sgn
    Cheers!

  • PHP stopped working after installing OS X Server on Montain Lion

I have searched prior to posting this and could not find anything remotely related.  I decided to install the OS X Server on my Mac that is running 10.8.3.  Prior to installing I had several PHP scripts that worked fine.  After installation, when I execute one of the scripts, the contents just get printed to standard out instead of being executed.  I have even put bad code in the script to test and the php interpretor is not reading the script, just printing (just like cat).
Has anyone seen anything like this?  The php version is 5.3.15.  Honestly, I don't know what vesion I had prior to installing Server, I am guessing 5.2.x based on looking at saved off config files in /etc

Ok.  I have figured out how to fix it.  But clearly this makes no sense to me.  If anyone has suggestions on why my fix works, it would be appriciated.
I went into my timemachine folders and started comparing files to see what had changed within the php binaries and libaries.  I found nothnig had changed.  In the /usr/lib/php directory there are a bunch more files and folders.  BUT nothing was overwritten or upgraded.
Then I looked at the /etc/php.ini file.  Well here was the difference.  Prior to installing Server, I apparently did not have a /etc/php.ini file.  After the upgrade, there was one (which was the default version).
I renamed the /etc/php.ini file to a backup name and Boom!  Everything worked as it used to.  Not sure what I might have broken with my server install (so far nothing has surfaced).
Very strange with the removal of the php.ini file, all works great.

  • Configure Cisco Works as a Syslog Server ???

    Hi Friends,
Is it possible to configure syslog server in Cisco Works,if possible please share the steps need to be configutreed..

Syslog server in ciscoworks is pretty simple.
    > Configure device to send syslog to ciscoworks
    > Subscribe Syslog Collector in Ciscoworks
    > Set correct filters and Generate report to see syslogs.
When Syslog is recived in Syslog.log(win)/Syslog_info(sol/lin) Syslog collector pics syslog message from that flat log/text file and send it to Syslog Db after filtering messages as per filter settings.
Subscribing Syslog Collector however differs with LMS version. Please see:
    LMS 3.x :

  • Problems Installing Cisco Works 4.2 Evaluation Version

Hello, I'm trying to test Cisco Works LAN Management Solution 4.2
I have a partition in my laptop to test this software but after the installation process i'm unable to access via http to the server,
    I does not display anything.
    Please help me!

Doublecheck your prerequisites as Vinod suggested. LMS is very particular about you meeting ALL the prerequisites exactly. If some are missing it will notify you during installation. Others may not generate an error but will leave you with a non-working setup.
When you machine starts, it takes as long as 15-20 minutes for LMS to be fully functional. There are many background processes started by the daemon manager. There is a shortcut to see if all are finished starting by watching for the "ready" folder (NMSROOT\objects\dmgt\ready is the default location) to be empty. As CiscoWorks LMS starts up, that folder will at various times have lock files put into it as the processes start.
The pdshow command enumerates the status all of the background processes.
Yes, NMSROOT is the parent folder for your installation. The default location for NSMROOT in Windows is under C:\Program Files\CSCOpx. You can confirm on your installation by checking your environment variables under Windows Server.

  • Cisco works 3.1 license recovery

    Hi,
I am using cisco works lms 3.0. I want to install LMS in new high performance server.
The license file gor from cisco earlier has been lost.
Please help, how to get license file for new server.
    Regards,
    DJ

Copy the *.lic files from NMSROOT/etc/licenses on the working LMS 3.0.1 server to the new LMS server.  Note: you will have to decomission the old server as you are only licensed to have one copy of LMS running at a time.

  • Cisco Works SNMP write community string Incorrect

    Hi,
I have installed Cisco Works at my organisation. Under RME -> Inventory -> Import status -> Device Attribute Error: I am getting: Incorrect SNMP write community strings. Even though i know perfectly well the SNMP write community string is correct. To prove that, if I delete the device and then add the same device using the same SNMP write community string it works fine. then a couple of days later, it comes up with the same message "SNMP write community string is incorrect". I have increased the time and retries for the SNMP settings at the ANI server, still it has not resolved the issue.
    Please help

I have sharched the CCO bug toolkit and according them, it was a know issue for verion 3.4 but it has been fixed for Ver RME 3.5. But we are currently running RME 3.5, therefore it does not make any sense.

  • Cisco Fax Server

I have a new install running Cisco Fax Server (Captaris 9.0) and I'm having the issue enabling the OCR converter. Fax Server is up, receiving faxes and sending to exchange if OCR is disabled on the user's mailbox. If I enable the OCR option on the user's Default Receive Settings then the faxes just sit in the OCR queue and never get serviced. Here are the steps I've done.
    * Enabled the OCR service on the Workserver
    * Validated my licensed features have the OCR converter option (assuming it does cause it's listed in licensed features)
    * Given my user OCR permissions
    * Configured automatic OCR conversion on the user's fax/mailbox.
These are all the steps referenced in the docs.

Anyone know if the Event Viewer is the only logging for this application. Turned up both system and database logging to verbose and still no luck.
    Thanks
    Fred

The problem was fixed by deleting the Workserver and re-adding it. All the configuration was correct but the work server was just not functioning correctly.
Debugging can be turned on by issuing this command when the workserver service is stopped.
    worksrv d -1 -sworksvr1 > debug.txt
(worksvr# is the number of your workserver)
    Thanks
    Fred
