Cisco WVC210 WLAN Camera - multicasting question

Hello,
it act's about the CISCO WC210 WLAN Camera, I would be really happy, if somebody could help us to eliminate our problem
Informatiom
We are using the WVC210 WLAN-Cameras (http://ww:w.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9948/), this camera has a web server, so is accessible over a normal web-browser, to see the video transmission.
We just set it up with a normal WLAN-Router, so the camera is connected wireless to the router, and this router is connected to the internet (WAN).
With the cisco video-software or the web-interface, it's now possible to stream the video.
Our questions:
Now we like to stream the Video on our Website, so people what visit our site can take a look at our company and so on.
We are able to stream the Video with the MJEPG-Format, like the camera web-interfaces offers...
The problem is, with normal ip-transfer method, each user would connect directly to the camera and increases the data-transfer, the internet-connection will than overload easily.
But the camera supports multi-casting,  so the camera only transmit one data stream and all clients connected to this stream will receive the packages.
Our problem is, we do not have any knowledge about multi-casting and how it works, the camera has a normal ip-address and a pre-configured multicast address with group name, so how can we connect a client to this multicast group, without increasing the data-transfer with each new user?
Would you recommend us to use the multicast function of this camera or put a server between the camera and the website?
Could you give as advice or some kind of tutorial, how we can set up this multicast service and easily get a player for the stream on our website, without using many plug ins or special apps ?
Looking forward for your help, thank you all
Regards
Markus
P.s.: You can also reply in german

Hi, your general understanding of multicast is correct, but I don't think there is any multicast in general use on the Internet today.  In the mid 1990's there was a thing called MBONE that experimented with this idea for basically the same application as you describe- to multicast video.  Check Google or wikipedia for some history of MBONE in case you are interested. That said, you should be able to use the multicast ability on your own LAN/WAN environment if that helps you at all.
I think the way people stream video to many users via the Internet today is essentially by having a lot of bandwidth and CPU.  You could probably find places to host your video and 'rebroadcast' it via their servers and Internet bandwidth.   Take a look a qik.com for an example of something that might help you.  There must be other services similar to qik that can 'rebroadcast' video streams that you only send one stream to them and they let multiple users see it.  I would expect to pay something for this service, but you might find free, ad supported services.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

  • Linksys Cisco WVC210 Network Camera - Problem

    Hello Cisco Members,
I have problem with one Linksys Cisco WVC210 Network Camera.
When I Power ON, the PowerLED blinking, other 3 GreenLED light and on LCD Display have nothing.
I make 30 seconds push resset button, 30 seconds power OFF and havent result. When I connect it to
Router with DHCP, this camera can not take IP Address... I do not understand where is a problem with
    this camera.
I write here to get a fix of this problem.
    Regards,
    Vivendi

Try power on and after 90 seconds go to the Browser and type in 192.168.1.99 (assuming you are on the 192.168.1.xx LAN network) and see if you are able to get to the firmware page, if yes try reload the firmware, if you are not then I would recommend returning the product by getting in touch with Cisco's Tech Support and get an RMA number and instructions on returning the product and get a replacement.

  • Power supply of Cisco WVC210 Camera with batteries

I want to use my new WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Video Camera on my wheeled robot, so I would like to provide a  separate power source for this camera.
Can I use 4 "D" batteries for it? They give 6 V DC, not 5 V as written  on the camera.
I've measured the voltage coming out from the power supply, which came  with the camera. In Switzerland it outputs 5.39 V DC.
I am afraid 6 V DC may damage the camera. Or is it OK?
If 6 V is not OK, then another possibility is 4 x 1.2 V DC researchable  batteries. But it gives only 4.8 V DC.
Can camera be supplied with only 4.8 V DC? Or is it better to use 6 V DC?
Or I shall build DC-DC converter outputting exactly 5 V?
In specifications for the Cisco WVC210 it is written: "5V DC 2.0A switching power supply". But how tolerrant is the switching power supply? Will it work safely with 6 - 5.8 V?

I'm afraid we can't recommend using any power source other than the AC adapter included with the camera.  Using anything else would likely void your warranty also.

  • Parsing raw DAT files from WVC210 IP cam

    Hi,
Is there any information available about the raw DAT file format that cisco uses for the WvC210 IP camera's?
A surveillence system based on 2 WvC210 IP camera's was vandalised and we could salvage only the DAT files, the rest is trashed.
I've loaded the software onto a new system and put the DAT files in the correct location but nothing works on these files.
I can see structure in the raw data, so there is something there.
The validate tools and the DBTools don't have any effect so maybe the files are mangled.
But as a programmer I could parse the files and possibly pad stuff to get it working again.
It's really important we do a full effort to retrieve some evidence, any help is appreciated.
I've read most posts and I relalise the product is EOL, but all I need is the file structure, any tech docs available?
    Regards,
    Shaun

    Hi Alan,
We have more .DAT files but no .rcd or other files.
Here is the full file list, showing bytes and filenames.
These are all the files that were recovered from the vandalised harddrive.
But I'll double check this just to be sure.
I'm guessing the naming convention is:

  • CGI Documentation for the WVC210 PTZ camera

    Hi everybody,
I would like to get the OFFICIAL AND COMPLETE LIST OF CGI COMMANDS that can be used to control the Linksys WVC210 PTZ camera.
I could only find a partial (and possibly non-official) list of CGI commands for this camera at:
    http://www.myhomeserver.com/?page_id=80
For documentation on how to control cameras made by AXIS, Trendnet, Intellinet and Genius see:

The following link can also be useful for developers of IP camera software:

That's all for now. Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
Can you point me to these third party web sites? I could only find one site and the info there seems to be incomplete: http://www.myhomeserver.com/?page_id=80
I am aware that the LINKSYS makes the GPL code for the camera (firmware) availabe at their site.
However, it is very hard to me to understand why I should look through their code and try to find (or guess) the CGI commands that one could use to control the camera, a task that seems very cumbersome to me. Am I the only one that thinks this way?
Fortunately, there are manufacturers of similar products (in the same price range) that release documentation for advanced users and developers, that is, for those people whose needs are not satisfied by the packaged software that comes with the product and know how to go further. These manufacturers know that not everybody is a dumb happy user. I guess I am forced to give their products a good look.
    Thanks,

  • WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Camera Audio question

I cannot get the Audio OUTGOING to work so that someone can hear me while I am viewing them on the camera.
Is there some trouble shooting that I can do or is there a known problem?
I have made all the necessary adjustments in the setup of the camera and it still does not work...  I own 4 of them.
    thank you

Hello Mr Autieri, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Thank you for using the Cisco Community Post Forums.
There are a couple of places to check in the camera when you have speaker issues. One is like you mentioned, under audio settings and checking the duplex settings. Also check on the main screen, there is a button that is sometimes defaulted to off. It is only visible when the audio is enabled. Once you enable it here then you should get a volume slide to adjust volume as well.
If this doesn't solve your issue, please call in and let one of our answering agents help troubleshoot this further.

  • Cisco PrecisionHD 720p Camera with C60 codec - Firmware?

I can't find any documents regarding firmware availability or updates for this camera model.
It's connected to a C60 TC7.2.0 and in the Peripherals page, the camera model is Cisco PrecisionHD 720p
and the software ID is S01692-3.0Final [ID:30038] 2009-08-27
The problem is that the camera does not respond to the IR of the remote control. (PTZ)
Is there a firmware update or DIP switch setting or something needed to use this camera with this codec?

Yes, that's correct about the 720P cameras not upgrading from the C series codec.
If you want to upgrade them, the best way to do it is to connect them to one of the older MXP devices (ie, and Edge 95 MXP).
The firmware you posted is the latest that is available: S01692-3.0Final [ID:30038] 2009-08-27.
Dumb question: Do you have the camera control cable connected?  And are you using the correct camera control cable - from memory, there are two, a "C3000" and a "C6000" cable - only the C6000 cable will work when connecting the 720 Camera to the C series codec.  The C3000 cable is used on the Edge 95.
The other problem could be that you don't have the IR turned on on your endpoint:
    xconf // ir
*c xConfiguration Cameras Camera 1 IrSensor: On
*c xConfiguration Cameras Camera 2 IrSensor: On
*c xConfiguration Cameras Camera 3 IrSensor: On

  • Transfer HD video from canon dslr to iPad 2 via cam kit Question!

    Hey all.
    I have a Canon DSLR that records 1080p HD video at 24, 25 & 30 fps and 720p HD video at 50 & 60 fps.
I have an iPad first generation with a ipad cam kit for transferring video and photos. It transfers photos just fine, but with video, it can't transfer full 1080p clips at all directly from the camera using the USB cam kit connector or via SD card using that adaptor. Nor will it transfer 720p clips using the cam kit unless the clips are not more than 30 fps. Since the canon t3i dslr shoots 720p video at 60 fps, the video is not viewable unless I first transfer it thru my iMac at home and THEN load it on the iPad.
Since I travel a lot, this is not convenient for me.
I want to be able to transfer my HD movies directly onto my iPad while on the road and edit them and then upload them to my travel blog or YouTube.
The first gen iPad cannot run the new iMovie app. Only the new iPad 2 can. So I was thinking of upgrading to the iPad 2.....
HOWEVER...I want to know if I will have the same problem trying to transfer my HD video directly from my canon t3i DSLR via the cam kit while on the road so that I can view and edit the clips on my iPad 2?
I know getting the MacBook air is an option, but I prefer traveling with the iPad. I just want to know if any video/photographers who have the new iPad 2 and canon dslr can answer my questions.
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers.

Yes, they will transfer as long as they are in 720p. However, you might want to check this if you are willing to try. Might save you from having to buy a new iPad?

  • Camera Connection questions...

I have a couple questions about the iPad Camera Connection that I have not been able to find answers for on the forum:
    1. Does the Photo app recognise already imported images if you leave images on your camera after importing and want to import newly shot ones? or does it import them all again?
    2. I use a Canon 5D Mk2 - I've read that the iPad cannot play the movies, however does it still import them from the camera and then allow you to transfer them to your laptop later?
    thanks!

For your first question, the answer is no. It will ask if you want to import an old (already imported) image just like it asks for a new image. At least that is how it works with my ipad.

  • Cisco LWAP & WLAN Controller Flexconnect Across HP Switches

Hello All, I'm looking for a little guidance in making the needed routing and switching configuration changes on our Corporate Network to accomadate flex connect functionality for Cisco Lightweight Access Points (LWAPs).  The LWAPs that are currently configured on our network only work when our WLAN Controller is up and running and I need for them to be disconnectable so that we can move the WLAN Controller to our virtual co-lo.  It should be known that I inhereted this network from the previous admin and have been working hard to map everything out to the best of my ability.  Also, the WLAN controller is already operating in our production network so it limits my ability to do much testing.
Just FYI, I'm a new Systems Admin promoted from a Desktop Support role and have my CCENT (Currently working on CCNA & MCITP Server Admin) so I have some knowledge but it is limited on the networking and switching side of things.  Unfortunately, the Senior Systems Admin has even less knowledge of networking than me and I don't really have anyone to turn to which is why I'm posting here.  I would have utilized GNS to help me simulate the configuration however there are HP switches in the mix and no means of emulating them.

    (COSW240) HP Procurve 4108GL - 10.1.1.240

(COSW239) HP1810G-24 - No IP (Inaccesible but being replaced)
I will now go on to explain our network topology as it pertains to the WAPs and WLAN Controller and how I believe it needs to be configured in order to operate from my perspective.
Our Corporate and Guest Wireless Access is provided via the Sonicwall CONSA251 through a connection from the X0 interface to HP Switch COSW239 which is then connected to WLAN Controller CO-WLAN-CTRLER as detailed below:
    Device - Interface Name/Port
    CONSA251 - X0
    COSW239  - 2
    COSW239  - 18,19
    CO-WLAN-CTRLER - 2,3
The WLAN Controller currently communicates with all the LWAPs via Layer 3 TCP\IP as I understand it and then routes all DHCP requests and traffic destine for the 10.1.101.1 (corporate WLAN) and 192.168.1.1 (Guest WLAN) to the Sonicwall and vice versa.
Now what I am trying to do is VLAN the LWAP CORP-AP-MIS across the HP Switches to the X0 interface on the Sonicwall NSA240 where it will be able to route traffic via VLAN 20 & 30.  The problem lies in my inexperience with HP VLAN configurations and how the ports need to be configured on each device so it can route traffic to the Sonicwall when the WLAN Controller is shutdown.
The LWAP CORP-AP-MIS layer 2 trace to the WLAN Controller is as shown below:
    Device - Interface Name/Port
    CORP-AP-MIS -  FA/0
    COSW238     - 16
    COSW238     - 25
    COSW240     - B4
    COSW240     - H6
    CORT250     - GigabitEthernet0/0
    CORT250     - Se1/0
    CONSA251    - X0
Now for all intesive purposes the Corporate Router CORT250 should probably be handling the routing for our Corporate and Guest Wireless network however that was not the way it was originally setup and I have to work with what was inhereted.  The Corporate Router CORT250 has a default route to the Sonicwall and the Sonicwall CONSA251 has all the routing already in place for the Corporate & Guest WLANs.
What I would like to do is VLAN off the X0-V20&V30 accross multiple switches and switchports to each LWAP in our building.  I do have the LWAP I'm testing on configured with Flex Connect which I understand is required for it to be disconnectable.
Any guidance on how I would go about configuring this accross devices would be appreciated.  I know there are some difference between HP and Cisco Switching terms and how tagging, untagging, and trunking works however I lack the experience to apply this in practice especially in a production environment.
I will be happy to provide any additional information or clarification that is needed.  Thank you in advance for the help.

Just to add about the ISE... you can profile, but having only one ssid might or might not work in your situation.  Also if you end up with remote sites or ap's in h-reap mode, currently ISE cant do any profiling.  If you go with the 7500 or 5508/WiSM2, they don't really do an active-active or active backup. They are both up and you can split the load or put all ap's on one, its up to you.  I usually split the load just to make sure both are working.  I don't want to all of a sudden loose the primary and then find out my secondary/backup is not working.
