  • LMS 4.0.1 - ANI Server may be down

    Hi all,
I'm facing a problem with my LMS 4.0.1...when I tried to access anything under "Admin> Collection Settings> Data Collection>" I received the following message:
"Error while loading. ANI Server may be down. Please check for ANI Server Status in Admin -> System -> Server Monitoring -> Processes"
And then, all fields are blank in:
    SNMP Timeouts and Retries
    Data Collection Schedule
    Data Collection Critical Devices Poller
But everything is OK, the process is running (with busy flag set) on pdshow...I tried to restart ANIServer with "pdterm ANIServer/pdexec ANIServer" and other actions mentioned in other posts but no luck at all...
Maybe It's related to another problem, where my shadow directory is not being updated, after change any configuration...in any device...
    Could you please help me?

    Hi ,
Found some errors and exception in the log..
We need to follow the below steps to fix the issue::
-we need to re-initialize the ANIdatabase ::
    1.stop the daemon manager :
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd stop
    net stop crmdmgtd
    2.Go to : /opt/CSCOpx/bin/ and issue the command :
    Run the below command:    /opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    windows::
    NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    3.Start the Daemon manager ::
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
    net start crmdmgtd
***IMP***   Re-initialize the ANI database will not lose any of the history information of the device.  Also ANI database does not contain any historical information as soon as the above steps are complete you need to run and new DATA COLLECTION followed by User tracking Acquisition and then check the issue.
Data collection:: Go to  Admin > Collection Settings > Data Collection > Data Collection Schedule   under "start Data Collection" > For "All Device"  >> click "START"
User tracking :: Inventory > User Tracking Settings > Acquisition Actions
    hope it will help
    Thanks-

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Fault Device Details Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 but when I go into,  Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
I get the following message (see attached document with screenshot) and being a LMS newbie am unsure what to do? As have tried to search for this
           file but no luck.
So thanks in advance for any advice.

Check if the fault management rediscovery page shows device as discovered and known or does it have any errors?
Are you able to generate any fault management reports and view other pages?
Just try to reboot the server/restart daemon to see if it is goes away.
Else it is mostly corrupt FM DB. Which would need to be re-initialized.
Fault Mgmt reinitialize is very simple task, which doesnt removes a lot of data, except past 31 days of FM history and custom notifications, if configured.
    Thanks

  • LMS 4.2 User Tracking (Ani Server) issue

    Running LMS 4.2.
I have an issue where Data Collection, UT Acquisition, and VRF Collection go from normal display (on Device Status Portal Page) to "loading". At this point user tracking stops functioning. Eventually a number of processes are reported as down. When trying to view items such as Discrepancies and Best Practice Deviations the message "ANIDbEngine process may be down"
If all daemons are stopped and restarted everything runs fine again for a few days then the same thing happens again.
I have attached some log files related to ani. These were collected while the problem is evident, prior to processes being restarted
    Any feedback would be appreciated

Yes, the Nexus 5000 series has a few issues with LMS (and other things). Among them is the non-support of User Tracking. I'm told it's a MIB variable issue but it's been the case for some time now and remains so with the current LMS release.
Here is the reference from the Supported Devices Table which states in part:
The following features are not supported:
User Tracking (Nexus 1K, 4K, 5K and 7K with FEX), VLAN Management, VRF Lite, LANE Management
Configuration Deploy Protocols: HTTPS, SCP, SSH, RCP
Configuration Fetch Protocols: HTTPS, SCP, SSH, RCP

  • CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 Won't Start on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

    All,
I installed CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 RME on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and the daemon manager won't start.  The server is a VMware ESX server 4.0.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing.
I get message "The service is not responding to the control function"
    Has anyone had this issue?
    Stephanie

There could be several reasons this happens.  Common one in Windows 2008 is the swap is not set properly as it defaults to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".  Try setting the swap to 8GB manually or whichever is the recommendation for your current device count as per:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/install/guide1/prereq.html
Also make sure the startup services are set this way:
    CiscoWorks ANI database engine: Manual
    CiscoWorks Daemon Manager: Automatic
CiscoWorks RME NG database engine: Manual
    CiscoWorks Tomcat Servlet Engine: Manual
    CiscoWorks Web Server: Manual
    CWCS Cmf database engine: Manual
    CWCS rsh/rcp service: Automatic
    CWCS syslog service: Automatic
    CWCS tftp service: Automatic
    DFM dfmEpm database engine: Manual
    DFM dfmFh database engine: Manual
    DFM dfmInv database engine: Manual
Set DEP for "Windows Essential Programs Only" and set an exclusion for CSCOpx in your anti-virus on-access scanning settings.  Note that Windows 2008 R2 versions are not supported.

  • Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 SP1 upgrade issue

    Dear all,
I've recently upgraded our CW 3.2 to 3.2.1 and I'm having a strange issue with HUM application registration with ACS. The privileges options such as 'Super Admin' etc are no longer there! All the privilege options for all of the other LMS components are there, it's just the HUM module! This is having a knock on affect on the server as Common Services DCR is now failing as it reports the System Indentity User configuration as not having all the privileges assigned!
    Anyone else seen this?
    Regards and thanks in advance,
    Col

So I worked this out. I decided to try and re-register the Ciscoworks applications within ACS. The major issue was that Common Services just refused to talk to the ACS servers. I then remembered that we closed down the tcp port range on the ACS to a manageable number of sockets to firewall. This appartently is the issue, Ciscoworks registration with ACS wont work unless you re-open the port range! Once I did that Ciscoworks re-registered with ACS and I could re-register the applications and HUM was restored back to how it was!

    Hello.
We are using CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 with TACACS login module enabled.
We have an issue with an account, and only this account. When I try to login into LMS, TACACS server registers a passed authentication but my IE session stops running.
Same issue when I configure CiscoWorks to use the local login module.
Anyway, I can successfully login with any other account, newly created also.
I have deleted and created again without success.

  • What to backup on Ciscoworks lms 2.6 windows server

    Howdy,
I need to do a file level backup of a Ciscoworks lms 2.6 windows server and want to know what i need to backup on the windows server file level?
Basically what partitions, folders, files etc?
    Thanks..

Application-wise, just backup NMSROOT (e.g. C:\PROGRA~1\CSCOpx).  To get the dynamic stuff, you will also need a full Windows Registry backup as well.
Typically, when customers ask about FULL LMS server backups we recommend they first do an LMS data backup using the Common Services > Server > Admin > Backup interface.  Then, take the backup directory and back that up to your archive server.  Then do a full server backup (i.e. file system backup).
On a restore, first restore your full server backup.  Then, use the LMS NMSROOT/bin/restorebackup.pl script to restore the LMS data backup you took.  This will ensure database integrity.

  • Installing Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 on Windows domain member server.

    Hello.
I'm looking for some suggestions about installing CiscoWorks LMS 4.0, and upgrade, on a domain member server running Windows 2008 R2 SE 64 bit.
    Thanks.
    Andrea

Here are the basic install best practices:
    1) Install as a local administrator (this means create a local account and add it
    the "Administrators" group).
    2) My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
Set the USER TMP and TEMP to a shorten path like
    C:\Windows\temp
    3) Make sure you have FIXED pagefile size like 8182
My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> Advanced
    4) May need to reboot, certainly log out an back in to make sure step 2 applies.
    5) Stop all anti-virus and firewall during the installation.  Disable them in services and reboot if necessary.
    *  NOTES: Anti-virus can be re-enabled after installation, but you should  EXCLUDE
the NMSROOT directory as long as LMS is installed on the  server. DEP should
remain off (that is, set to only protect critical  Windows system files) as long as LMS
    is installed on the server.
    *  If Internet Information Services (IIS) is detected on your system and  if you have
continued the installation with IIS services, you cannot use  the port number 443 for
HTTPS. Instead, you must use the port numbers  ranging from 1026 to 65535 for
    HTTPS to avoid this conflict.
When performing the installation, make sure these two steps are followed:
    *  Install from original, locally attached media
    *  NEVER abort the installation after the installer says not to
It may not always be possible to install from original, locally attached  media
(especially on VMs). But you should avoid from installing over  the network as hiccups
can cause bad installations. If you are  installing on a virtual machine, convert the DVD
to an ISO image, then  mount that within the VM.
Here is the document detailing all ports needed to be allowed (excluded from policy)
    for LMS 4.0
    LMS 4.0 Port Usage
    General Notes:
If you want to upgrade the operating system from Windows 2003 or Windows
2008 to Windows 2008 R2, you must first complete upgrading the operating
system, and then install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch.
    *  You can install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch only on LMS 4.0.x
and not on the lower version of LMS.
    *  You cannot install Integration Utility and HP Open View 7.x or 8.x on
    Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 servers.

    Hi there,
I would like to seek your counsel with regards to the recent incident that we encountered with our CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 running on Solaris 10.
A few days ago, we received a few complains from our users that they were unable to view the pollers or contents of the TOP-N <CPU | Memory | Interface> Utilization on the HUM’s home page (see attached file, hum_homepage.jpg).
We (tech support guys) checked the pollers’ status and they’re all Active (see attached file, pollers.jpg); we notified our Administrators and requested for a copy of the HUMPortal.log (see attached file, humportal.zip).
The following day, while waiting for the HUMPortal.log, we received reports that users accessing the HUM home page are stuck with the message “loading…” on all TOP-N Utilization reports.
As we were about to re-queue our request from our administrators, we received reports (a few hours ago) that our CiscoWorks LMS is inaccessible via web browser.
We alerted our administrators and they attempted to restart the Daemon Manager (/etc/init.d/dmgmtd); they were able to successfully shut it down but took several attempts to start it up.
As they attempt to start up the Daemon Manager, they encountered the following error message:
    # /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
Error: Daemon Management could not start. Trying again
Error: Unable to bind to port, please check port (42340) state and permissions.
Error: If the port is in use, please try starting Daemon Manager once it become free.
After several minutes passed, they were able to start up the Daemon Manager successfully although the CiscoWorks LMS is still inaccessible via web browser.
We requested for a copy of the “pdshow –brief” log and every daemon (as far as I know) seemed to be working fine but it never hurts to ask for help to verify my findings (see attached file, pdshow0818a.log).
As of the moment of  this writing, we are still unable to access CiscoWorks LMS via web  browser; any insight or suggestion on the next step to take in  troubleshooting and eventually solving this problem is very much  appreciated.

The port 42340 issue is most likley not related to the HUM issue you described. The latest log entry you provided indicates "Possible reasons for 'No Data' in HUM Portlets could be either Poller is not configured, or Poller is deactivated, or Poller Failure has occurred, or Summarization job did not start." The error is repeated back to the beginning of the file dated Aug 14 16:39.
To focus on the HUM issue:
Did any change occur on or around the 14th that you are aware of?
    Please provide some additional debugs:
    1. Please enable debug for "UPMProcess"
Log files are stored here: #/var/adm/CSCOpx/log/#
    - HUMPortal.log
    - upm_summarization.log
    - jrm.log
    - upm_process.log
    2. To set log levels:
*Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences*.
    - Select Log Level Settings.
    - Select the application module from the drop-down list.
    - Select the Debug log level from the Logging Level drop-down list.
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • CiscoWorks ANI server cannot connect, Joe Clark please help

Joe, if you see this, please help
I noticed yesterday I was getting some Java errors when opening different modules of Cisco Works, Campus Manager, RME.
I rebooted the server and everything seemd to be working fine. I tried to set up Notification Services after the reboot and it seemed to go without incident.
    This morning Common Services shows
"DCA Server is down or inaccessable"
    Campus Manager shows:
"Cannot connect to ANI Server since it is down"
Here is a clip from ani.log:

Reboot has not helped this morning.
I just found out we did some WIndows patches a couple of days ago.

    Joe,
Is there any way this could have been related to me setting up Notification Services?
Something I noticed yesterday is that when setting up "Event Sets", nothing shows up.
Per the document (and I saw this yesterday after a reboot of the server (most likely what caused the problem), I should see a list of items to trigger notification and I can configure nine different sets.
But, I see "No Records" on the Event Sets page.
I see the A,B,C etc, but nothing under them.
After a reboot yesterday, then I saw the items and checked off for the different event sets.
My goal is to have an e-mail alert when switch or router interfaces go down , or high utilization of fragmentation.

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
    no logging event link-status
    no snmp trap link-status
So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nessie,
Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
select the device and click on view  then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
    Thanks-

  • Adding Device support/definitions in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2

    Hi All
I am having some issues adding updated definitions for Cisco C3750X-48PS switches.
We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 and I need to update the definition/device support for these switches. We are conducting a network refresh and are having some issues with ciscoworks polling these devices correctly.
I have looked through the various user guides and searched on google with not much luck as to how to actually do this, the links I have found breifly go into it, but not indepth, and the cisco links I have found, of course have redirects to new pages which bear to resemblance to what is in the original document.  Is there a clear guide out there on how to update the switch definiton in ciscoworks? So I can i can try and do this correctly?
I am new in my current role and I want to ensure I am doing this correctly. Apologies if this has been asked before.
    thanks

First thing to check is the supported device table for LSM3.2. According to it, the 3750X-48P-S is supported pretty much across the board by the LMS tools.
So you then need to just make sure you update the RME, CM, DFM and CiscoView device packages to integrate the updates into your server. While you can manually download and install the various packages, this task is more easily accomplished via the application GUI itself.
In LMS 3.2, updates can be done via the Common Services Software Center. The User Guide (here) tells how to use that area in great details. I usually just select "everything" for updating so as to be fully updated for whatever gets installed (as opposed to trying to pick and choose the minimal set of packages).

  • Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 - CS job browser extremely slow

    Hello,
I have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 on a solaris server with 8 GB of RAM.
Whenever I try to access Job Browser (CS->Server->Admin->Job Browser), the page is just loading forever. All other links like Backup, Log Rotation, Selftest etc load pretty quickly.
But opening the Job Browser seems next to impossible. All the processes are up and running, so I am not sure what the root cause might be.
Please help me if anyone has a solution to this issue.
    Thanks,

    Hi Sivarama,
I had a similar issue when LMS had many jobs ? Did you try to purge them (<30 days, for example) ?
    Hope it helps,
