Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 Processes down
Hello all,
I have installed ciscoworks lms 3.2 on windows 2003.
The discovery ran successfully and the devices were added to dcr.
After a few days, the ciscoworks processes were automatically down.
“Processes NOSServer, CmfDbMonitor, FHServer, IPMProcess, Sysloganalyser, 1041, CTMJrmServer,
Interactor1, EDS-GCF, IPMOGSServer, CMFOGSServer, 1015, DFMOGSServer, UPMDbMonitor, ChangeAudit, Inventory Collector, CampusOGSServer, Interactor, TISServer, jrm, UTManager,
ConfigMgmtServer, DCRServer, PMCOGSServer, ICServer, EssentialsDM, InventoryCollector1, PTMServer, RMEOGSServer, UPMProcess are down” .
Why were the processes down?
What might be the solution?
Thanks and Regards

User tracking not finding any hosts in Ciscoworks LMS 3.1
L.S.
Our test-configuration is as follows:
Application versions:
Ciscoworks LMS 3.1
Ciscoworks Common Services 3.2.0
Campus Manager 5.1.4
We have 31 managed devices in Campus Manager (data has been collected on all),
Edit: All of them show up green in the topology window.
The device are: 2 6509 cores (running IOS s72033_rp-IPSERVICESK9_WAN-M version 12.2(18)SXF8), 1 ASA firewall (running ASA-OS version 8.0.5) and 29 switches (2960 and 3560 models both running ios version 12.2(52)SE). The switches are connected as follows:
User tracking jobs are running normally, but aren't finding any end-hosts or IP phones at all (I suspect around 250-500 hosts+ on these switches)
We are running SNMP v3 on the switches and have added the following configuration items to all the switches:
snmp-server group readonly v3 auth context vlan-1
<repeat for all present snmp-contexts as shown in show snmp context output>
snmp-server group readonly v3 auth context vlan-83
Debugging is enabled in CM->Admin->Debugging Options->User Tracking Server

I'm slowly getting to a dead end here. What am I missing?Well, our problem was resolved finally through a weird coincendence after having a websession with a Cisco TAC engineer (TAC case SR 613376661)
We changed the
snmp-server group readonly v3 auth context vlan-xxxx
commands in the switches to:
snmp-server group writeonly v3 auth context vlan-xxxx
that is: use the writestring in the snmp-server groups instead of the read string.
After we changed that, all of the User Tracking mysteriously started working.
As far as I know, the writestring should not be needed, but apparently it is....
Is there any explanation for this? -
Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue
We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
no logging event link-status
no snmp trap link-status
So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.Hi Nessie,
Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
select the device and click on view then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
Thanks-

How to get Ciscoworks LMS 4.0.1 serial number
How to get Ciscoworks LMS 4.0.1 serial number ? I need that to put the product under mainrtenance, and I can't manage to get it.
Thanks for your help
Rolandas LMS 4.0.1 is a service pack on LMS 4.0 you need the serial number of your base installation of LMS 4.0.
The serial number for software products is called "PAK" ("Product Authorization Key")
For LMS there are 3 options to get the PAK:
1) the PAK is printed on a paper sheet in the box in which LMS was sent to you. Sometimes it is also printed outside on the box.
2) the mail you received from [email protected] after the online licensing process includes the PAK;
the first lines of the email looks something like this:
===========================================================
DO NOT DISCARD THIS EMAIL.
Product Name : R-LMS41-1.5K-MR-K9
Product Description : Update LMS 4.0 to 4.1 Base download for 1500 devices
Product Qty : 1
Product Authorization Key : 1354Jxxxxxx
Sales Order Number : 117yyyyy
Options Included: No additional features have been selected for this product.
You have received this email because your email address was provided to
Cisco Systems during the registration process for a software license key file to the CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution (LMS) software.
===========================================================
3) the license file itself contains the PAK, sourounded by the tags and <\PAK>
the line looks like this:
1354Jxxxxxx" SIGN=658Czzzzzzzz
if you have access to your LMS server you can find the license file at the following location:
NMSROOT\etc\licenses\1317812nnnnnn.lic
open it with a text editor and you 'll find the PAK.

Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 - CS job browser extremely slow
Hello,
I have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 on a solaris server with 8 GB of RAM.
Whenever I try to access Job Browser (CS->Server->Admin->Job Browser), the page is just loading forever. All other links like Backup, Log Rotation, Selftest etc load pretty quickly.
But opening the Job Browser seems next to impossible. All the processes are up and running, so I am not sure what the root cause might be.
Please help me if anyone has a solution to this issue.
Thanks,
SivaHi Sivarama,
I had a similar issue when LMS had many jobs ? Did you try to purge them (<30 days, for example) ?
Hope it helps,

CiscoWorks LMS: not receveing certain SNMP traps
CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 (I know it's old and unsupported).
Problem: not receiving certain SNMP traps.
For example: I receive trap like "STP new root" but not like "port put to err-disabled" or my custom traps (produced by EEM scripts).
I've investigated my situation and found out that switch sends traps and they reach* LMS but somehow LMS ignores them (there's no trace of them in GUI). I've read that some traps just pass through LMS but my traps are very important and I need to know about them.
* I did Wireshark capture on LMS machine.
I'd like to know how to debug receiving of SNMP traps in LMS:
which specific debugs need to be enabled,
which specific log files need to be examined.LMS uses DFM to process certain traps.
All traps it deems unimportant are dropped.
If you want to use the LMS GUI you can have you device send a SYSLOG message rather than a trap.
use logging source command to make the management interface send the message.
Then there is a GUI that allows you to launch an action on a message
Cheers,

CiscoWorks LMS cannot add PIX/ASA in software repository
Hi,
I can see that LMS in RME Software Management cannot add PIX/ASA software saying not supported.
Any configuration issues.
I have got another problem. CiscoWorks LMS need to download IOS on cisco router, the process fails in RME Software Mgt. But the LMS is nated when it goes through the router.
i guess the script does not know the natted ip when running it on the router. If there is a way that I can specify the natted IP of the LMS. Fortunately, it is a nated static IP.
Thanks,
AshleyHi Joseph,
It is working fine. My mistake, issue with TFTP source interface.
However, I had got a small issue.
I have got a cisco router which RME accesses with ip natted ip, which you have indicated and It is working fine with RME. RME can manage the router perfectly.
However, DFM is leaving this router in questioned mode. So, the SNMP Credentials must be ok since it is good with RME.
Do I have to specify the Natted DFM ip as well for this router? Or something else must be done. -
Need assistance in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 for enable monitoring of cisco switches
Hello,
I am new to the ciscoworks LMS 3.2. I have a task to add a devices in ciscoworks and configure the SNMP on the devices and ciscoworks both. My company has bought the ciscoworks LMS3.2 in 2009 december since then one engineer has configured some devices in it but not fully. I tried to look into the guides and documentation but has huge stuff. My infrastructure lead also not familiar of ciscoworks tool. I know there is lot of documentation in it but I have very less time say this weekend I have to activate monitoring of devices in ciscoworks LMS 3.2. Can anyone please provide me the screenshots or step-by-step procedure to how to enable a device for monitoring who has prior experience on ciscoworks LMS 3.2.
Regards,
AhmedRegarding SNMP reachabilty, you are the man........ thats true the firewall is blocking, because the subnets for the swithces which i m trying to add into the ciscoworks are not added into the firewall. Those subnets are different than the other 20 switches which are shown as reachable.
and regarding the swithces which are already seen reachable, based on the document you have provided me for alert and monitoring of a device. I checked the DFM and configured as it is but still i didn't see any of the alert when I turned off one of the 4506E power supply. Is there something I am missing it.
What do you need from my side to provide information or screenshot so that we can sort out the issue of monitoring of the device. Should I get an alert even if the device goes down?
regards

Hi there,
I would like to seek your counsel with regards to the recent incident that we encountered with our CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 running on Solaris 10.
A few days ago, we received a few complains from our users that they were unable to view the pollers or contents of the TOP-N <CPU | Memory | Interface> Utilization on the HUM’s home page (see attached file, hum_homepage.jpg).
We (tech support guys) checked the pollers’ status and they’re all Active (see attached file, pollers.jpg); we notified our Administrators and requested for a copy of the HUMPortal.log (see attached file, humportal.zip).
The following day, while waiting for the HUMPortal.log, we received reports that users accessing the HUM home page are stuck with the message “loading…” on all TOP-N Utilization reports.
As we were about to re-queue our request from our administrators, we received reports (a few hours ago) that our CiscoWorks LMS is inaccessible via web browser.
We alerted our administrators and they attempted to restart the Daemon Manager (/etc/init.d/dmgmtd); they were able to successfully shut it down but took several attempts to start it up.
As they attempt to start up the Daemon Manager, they encountered the following error message:
# /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
Error: Daemon Management could not start. Trying again
Error: Unable to bind to port, please check port (42340) state and permissions.
Error: If the port is in use, please try starting Daemon Manager once it become free.
After several minutes passed, they were able to start up the Daemon Manager successfully although the CiscoWorks LMS is still inaccessible via web browser.
We requested for a copy of the “pdshow –brief” log and every daemon (as far as I know) seemed to be working fine but it never hurts to ask for help to verify my findings (see attached file, pdshow0818a.log).
As of the moment of this writing, we are still unable to access CiscoWorks LMS via web browser; any insight or suggestion on the next step to take in troubleshooting and eventually solving this problem is very much appreciated. The port 42340 issue is most likley not related to the HUM issue you described. The latest log entry you provided indicates "Possible reasons for 'No Data' in HUM Portlets could be either Poller is not configured, or Poller is deactivated, or Poller Failure has occurred, or Summarization job did not start." The error is repeated back to the beginning of the file dated Aug 14 16:39.
To focus on the HUM issue:
Did any change occur on or around the 14th that you are aware of?
Please provide some additional debugs:
1. Please enable debug for "UPMProcess"
Log files are stored here: #/var/adm/CSCOpx/log/#
- HUMPortal.log
- upm_summarization.log
- jrm.log
- upm_process.log
2. To set log levels:
*Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences*.
- Select Log Level Settings.
- Select the application module from the drop-down list.
- Select the Debug log level from the Logging Level drop-down list.
Thanks,
Nick -

We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 which we have recently updated to ciscoworks 3.2.1 using the ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 patch file. In the "Readme for CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2 Service Pack 1" document, it says that you have to install the Remote Syslog Collector 4.3.2 separately. It says the file (setup.exe) is located at disk1/RSAC. However, ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 only appears to be a patch file and when we ran the patch file on our Remote Syslog Collector server, the version remained at 4.3.0. When I looked at the server where RME is installed (version 4.3.2), it says that Syslog Analyzer is 4.3.2 and Syslog Collector is version 4.3.0. The patch file doesn't look like it has the installation files for RSAC 4.3.2 and there doesn't seem to be a directory that was created on the RME server to install the updated RSAC from, so how do you upgrade from RSAC 4.3.0 to RSAC 4.3.2?
I opened up a TAC case, worked with TAC, and was able to update RSAC to version 4.3.2. The procedure is:
1. Download the ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1 patch file to the remote syslog server.
2. Create a temporary directory on the remote syslog server (ex. c:\test)
3. Go into the directory with the extracted LMS 3.2.1 patch file and type the command:
Ciscoworks_LMS_3.2.1.exe /extract_all:c:\test
4. Go into the c:\test directory and find the RSAC folder. In the RSAC folder is a setup file. Run setup and install RSAC 4.3.2 over RSAC 4.3.0 (if you uninstall RSAC 4.3.0, you will get a message saying that RSAC 4.3.0 must be installed before installing RSAC 4.3.2)
5. Check the installation by going to Common Services->Software Center->Software Update on the remote syslog server. The version should be RSAC 4.3.2. -

Dear All
We are running CiscoWorks LMS 2.6
I have scheduled a backup in Common Services > Server > Admin > Backup
My question is, what does this backup actually do?
Does it just backup the CW configuration?
Or does it include data such as devices configuration archive, reports, jobs, device inventory etc
If it does not, anyone have a suggestion of how this can be achieved?
I am looking into DR scenario - i.e. how we can restore net devices if the device AND CW server is destroyed.
Thanks

You may want to move this thread to the Network Infrastructure>Network Management community; they focus on LMS there.

Custom device prompt in Ciscoworks LMS
Hello,
In emerging network infrastructure of our client we decided to use some custom promps at device VTY (SSH and Telnet). Console users are network authenticated by means of ACS, and in case ACS is not reachable, we decided to use login prompts as follows:
Username(local):
Password(local):
In this local mode, when CiscoWorks LMS (3.1) tries to collect configuration of switches, VLAN configuration exactly, we got such error messages in LMS interface:
TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to 10.52.0.1 - Cause: Authentication failed on device 3 times. VLAN Config fetch is not supported using TFTP. Command failed VLAN Config fetch is not supported using RCP.
Of course, we have checked the possibility to got from LMS host to these devices by SSH and Telnet, credentials are correct, only login prompts are as described earlier.
I conclude, we need to tell LMS to accept our custom prompts. Is there any possibility and how to achieve this?If you're sure the failure is due to the custom prompt, yes, you can simply follow the steps in the following document to let LMS know about that:

TS1424 100 error? Credit Card Processing down for 4 hours
Any Clue?
Attempting to buy Numbers and Keynote.
Getting a 100 error followed by cc processing down. It has been 4 hours ...Leonnears
I have the same problem, but being as you have had your account for 5 days by the time of this writing, I had mine for about a year. Recently, the security code showed up blank for the credit card I was using, and even when I used the correct security code, iTunes figured that it wasn't valid.
Thankfully, (go shopsafe!) it was easy to get another credit card for a dollar or two (I just want to update my free software for free...), yet this didn't work, for it again said that the security code was invalid.
Then, after a few tries, it said "Credit card processing is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
Judging by other Apple forums, when this sort of thing happens, it's a problem on Apple's side, rather than my computer.
I came to this conclusion when I came to a forum that had a bunch of different people complaining that they can't buy music on iTunes. However, that forum was dated in 2008.
If someone finds contradictory information, feel free to reply to my post and tell me how I, too, could fix this.
And in case it matters, I am using a MacBook Air with OS X 10.6.8 and have iTunes 10.4.
