Ciscoworks Software Management

Does anybody knows the steps involved on Ciscowoks Software Management when upgrading and IOS?? Does the old IOS is erase and then the new IOS loaded? or Not erase until the newer version is in?
Or how does it work?

It depends on the parameters you select when running the job. You can have it erase first, or you can just add it and add boot parameters.

  • Lookin for a NMS such as CiscoWorks network management software

    hi everybody
I 'm lookin' for CiscoWorks network management software or equivalent on support section on cisco website support.
I want it to configure snmp on my catalyst 2950 and get some results likes input and output traffic rate on my catalyst, all trafic generated by equipment connected on my catalyst with some detailes likes equipement ip, input and output trafic rate, graph and son on.
I don't find it on the cisco website so I think they'll have an equivalent on the website but I don't know.
If someone has an idea or a link...
    Thank you

    Hi Serge,
Are looking to obtain software that you can install and use, or are you looking for documentation for software you already have?
One type of network management software freely available is MRTG, it will produce graphs of network traffic, a very handy utility:
    http://www.mrtg.com/
Another freeware NMS, if I'm not mistaken, is Nagios:
    http://www.nagios.org/products/nagiospowered/
We do have some software available for device configuration also (depending on the device). Perhaps the Cisco Netowrk Assistant? You can navigate there from http://www.cisco.com . Choose Support, and under Otion 2, choose "Download Software". Then select "Netowrk Management", "Routing and Switching Management", and "Cisco Network Assistant". Follow the navigation, and you should be able to have a tool to help configure your devices.
    Cheers,
    Curtis

  • Software Management Tool

    Hey everybody!
I just want to know, if anybody would also prefer a management tool for the software in the mac. 2 years ago, I used Linux. It has a management tool for the software. So you can install software easier from the web and updates for EVERY INSTALLED software can be seen in this tool. You haven't to start every tool to update. Just open the software management tool and take a look if something new is availlable.
I am interessted in your opinion.
    Thx

It's not a typical Mac way-to-do ... Some months ago i've heard something about a project but it's not useful because many applications as AdobeCS3 for example needs their update clients to patch apps.
So what use of a program that search updates and notify you if there are something new but it can't update your apps?
On Linux what you're talking about is very useful because of many daily updates (for system or for apps), you can install applications from Synaptics (ubuntu) and track their updates.
Usualy Mac programmers use to add a module inside their products (located under program name on the right of apple menu) that search on app launch for updates.
If you need only System Updates they are automatic , go to Apple menu and choose Software Update
    for some options.

    Greetings,
I have installed Ciscoworks vms ver 2.3 on a windows 2000 box and can start all services except the ciscoworks daemon manager. I have tried reinstalling and verifying permissions but still have the same problem. any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
maybe the user of Ciscoworks was erased or was disabled. Verify the status of the CW user on Windows. I guess the user is named casuser.

  • Limit DCR crendentials to CiscoWorks software with ACS 5.1

    Hi !
we are currently deploying ACS 5.1 in our network, I would like to limit DCR crendentials to CiscoWorks software if-sefl not only to the server itself is it possible ?
We would like to make sure nobody can use DCR crendential to open an administrative session on AAA Clients without CiscoWorks sofware (even if the attempt is make from the CiscoWorks server it-self, by taking in remote control the server and trying an Telnet or SSH session from that point)

I don't think the end device would know the source application, only the source IP address, so even with ACL's etc if the CiscoWorks server and credentials are compromised the user will be able to access.
To prevent this we got two admins to each generate a complex 8 character password, and then got them to set these in turn for the ACS account used by CiscoWorks (thus it has a 16 character password) and then set these using the "Default Device Credentials" in CiscoWorks.
Then as CiscoWorks is ACS integrated removed the functionality to export the device credentials from users within the ACS shared profile components.
Thus the only way to exploit the credentials is to have both people remember the 8 character password they set and combine them into 16 character password, or get the ACS administrator to reenable device credential export.
Slightly convoluted but it works - all comes down to suitable role seperation between individuals.
    Hope this helps

  • Additional software manages deployment of applications

I'd like to utilize "Additional software manages deployment of applications"  option in Client Settings (using SCCM 2012 R2).
Need to write a SDK to manually kick off the deployment for certain collections with a 24/7 business hour and zero maintenance window.
Anyone has ideas or if a class is available to do this?  I need the ability to start the deployment on individual machine one by one and not entire collection.

    Hi, katiedonut.
If your intent is to immediately start a deployment then the 3rd party deployment facility activated by that setting may not be appropriate as it is basically an entire replacement of the whole Application/Updates facility within the client.
That seems a bit heavyweight for what you're trying to do.
You may be better served by having a scheduled task or listener service that runs on the client that can invoke the installation methods in the root\ccm\clientsdk classes (these are also what Software Center uses) if you have a time sensitive need to
    run something right away.
If you do need to go the native 3rd party client route that the "Additional software" setting enables you'll need to work with an account manager or CSS as we don't publish this on MSDN.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Scourge: Macrovision Software Manager

    Hi there,
My new Curve 8900 is great, but I am very unhappy that RIM has included the "Macrovsion Software Manager" in their tools desk, which installs itself, unasked, when installing the Blackberry software.
This disgusting program is an irritating resource hog that imbeds itself on your computer and, like some virus infestation, resists every attempt to uninstall it. It can't even be removed by the Windows Install Clean-up utility. Such invasive software is obnoxious and I can't believe that RIM which makes fine products would use employ such programs. Their human "software manager" should be taken to task.
RIM, please DO NOT use such garbage software in your otherwise fine products, and
Please do let me know how I can get rid of it!
Many thanks for anyone who may have some insights to share. I've googled the issue and there are many people with similar complaints but I've yet to find an effective solution. Apparently, RIM does not seem to be jumping in with any help, either.

I can't see that happening initially after you start the laptop. After being powered on, laptop has to make it through the BIOS power on self test to get to the Windows login screen. That is (BIOS) firmware first and then software, like the operating system and other programs. Do you mean after you login to Windows?
From what I have found online, Common software Manager is something that some software makers add to their programs related to updates. One such example is Dragon NaturallySpeaking, which is reputed to have been then cause of "Common Software Manager" popups like you have described.
Try turning off updates to programs you have installed made by other than Microsoft or HP.
