CiscoWorks Updates

I'm new to CiscoWorks and inherited 2 LMS 3.2 servers about 2 months ago.  Sense the server build in Januray this year, there has not been any updates/upgrades to it at all.  The following is the current build info I was able to collect -
Integration Utility - 1.9.0 (no patches or applications installed)
CiscoView - 6.1.9 (no patches or applications installed)
RME - 4.3.1 - several applications and the 4.3.1 package has been installed (no patches)
LMS Portal - 1.2.0 which includes applications and packages (no patches)
CM - 5.2.1 (includes 5.2.1 patch, several applications and several packages installed)
CS - 3.3 includes several packages (no patches or applications)
CW Assistant - 1.2.0 (no patches or packages installed)
I have downloaded all the patches, packages and updates I could find and am now at the quandry of where in the world do I start in the update/upgrade process.
Should I start in a specific application and move forward from there?  I was told at one time that there may or may not be dependencies on each update/upgrade that may affect other applications within CW.
Anyone that can give me a clue would be a friend for life...  lol
TIA
Eric

I'm assuming your server is not allowed to connect to the Internet on its own. Otherwise, you could use the built-in update tool and it will both download the packages and apply the updates for you.
In any case, I generally apply and Common Services (CS) updates first. After that, the other applications are relatively independent and can be done in any order. The upgrade process will check for dependencies and alert you if any dependent packages are not present. In that case, simply iterate the process including the required prerequisite packages.
Here is a link to a post I made recently about the CLI procedure for applying updates on a Windows LMS 3.x server.

I have CiscoWorks VMS setup to auto download new IDS signature files, this works great, however is there a way I can have those signatures automatically installed to my sensors?

Automatic update of signatures is possible with FTP or SCP. You will have to first download the updates from Cisco on to the FTP or SCP server. The sensor will automatically install them.

  • Using Ciscoworks to update netmask on mgmt interface for multiple switches

Is it possible to user Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 to update the netmask for a management interface on multiple switches? For example, say I have a 3750 access switch management network, 172.28.185.0/27 (default gateway 172.28.185.1) that we're resizing to a /26. Is there a simple way to update just the netmask for the management interface on those devices using Netconfig?
    -David

Unfortunately not.  You could use Netconfig or even baseline compliance for this, but since you need to know each interface's IP, that means you'd have to create parameterized templates.  Therefore, you would have to create a template "answer" file for each device in this subnet which had their IP address for the interface in question.
Baseline compliance might be a little easier with a template like:
    Commandlet : CheckIP
    IsPrereq : Yes
    Submode : interface [#.*Ethernet.*#]
    + ip address [#172.58.185.\d+#] 255.255.255.224
    Commandlet : ReplaceIP
    Parent : CheckIP
    + ip address [IP] 255.255.255.192
You would still need to provide a value for [IP] for each device when performing a deployment.

  • Ciscoworks LMS 2.5 don`t working software & devices updates

Terrible happened The old server with LMS on the Solaris operating system refused to work, but I have backup. I installed LMS 2.5 (CiscoView 6.1.2), RME 4.0.3. Posted all network objects that were in the old system from backup. But none of them can not do in the utility Netconfig, all the checkbox on the switches Cisco ME 3400-24TS-A inactive, butwith the Cisco 3750 is no such problem, it works. As I understand it, I must run Device Update, but the answer is a "No updates available in CCO for selected product (s)." The same problem with Software Update, I can not upgrade to LMS 2.6 and other products too. Tell me what to do? Some screenshots attached below.

Maybe Cisco has stopped maintaining the online update repositories for LMS 2.x. Alternatively, you can try finding the relevant RME/CiscoView/Campus Manager device updates at
    http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html?mdfid=268439477&i=rp
For example, select RME, instead of LMS, to find if the RME device pkgs are available for download. Once downloaded, you can apply them on the LMS servers locally.

    2) when device is replaces or IOS is updates Work Center is not refreshing at all (weeks).
I'm looking for a way to troubleshoot this but searching internet resources gives me no hints where to start. If you know what logs can i check, what debug can i enable, or what processes are responsible for readiness job your help will be appreciated.

    Any hints?
I can't find any piece of configuration where i would be abe to enable DEBUG for Identity Work Center.
Does anyone know how to verify problems with identity work center?

  • CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 unable to update device packages

    Chaps,
This is a new install of LMS 3.2 with the Campus Manager patched to 5.2.1.
I'm unable to install any new device updates, if I use the GUI and Check for Updates then it says that none are available.  The Device Count Type for Campus Manager is 0 although and my 3750X stacks are not supported.
    Any ideas?
    Jim

Try to install the update manually. Open CLI on the server, navigate to $NMSRoot\bin directory and execute the commands:
    1. PSUCli.bat -p cm -dst  -download CMDeviceUpdates ,     On providing cisco.com credentials CMDeviceUpdates.zip will be
downloaded to "\cm" location. For example if  is
C:\psu_download then package will be under C:\psu_download\cm.
    2. Install the package by executing below command:
    PSUCli.bat -p cm -install -src\cm CMDeviceUpdates

  • CiscoWorks IPM 4.1.0 - SNMP Community String Updates

    Cisco NetPro,
    We're running IPM 4.1.0 on Solaris 10.
Periodically we change SNMP RO/RW strings on our devices.  I recently changed the strings on our devices and within IPM.
Now that they're changed, 26 of my collectors are appearing in the Source Not Responding list.  Both my Source and Target devices have the same strings configured.
I need to verify the strings IPM has stored.  I exported my collectors via the command line utility "ipm" and via the GUI and still no strings in the output.
How can I see the SNMP strings in IPM?
    Stephanie

I ran "pdterm IPMProcess" followed by "pdexec IPMProcess"  and now I'm getting this error:

  • Follow-up on "LastSeen" field of UserTracking in CM of CiscoWorks

Found this discussion here ("LastSeen"  field of UserTracking table in Campus Manager of CiscoWorks).
Here is a few follow-up questions:
If UT acquisition is scheduled to run everyday, and a user end host (PC workstation) is online all the time on the same port, does the LastSeen column change everyday?
If the LastSeen field stales, what could be the reason(s)? I guess the troubleshooting should start with the log files. What should one look for?
If a user end host powers down everyday during the UT acquisition, what happens?
    Thanks!
    Wei

    1. Yes.
    2. If it stales, it could be that Data Collection is not running properly (there is a bug in CM 5.2.1 where this can happen if wireless devices are in the network), or it could be that the end host could not be found.  The log would be ut.log for UT acquisition, and ani.log for Data Collection.
    3. If the user power downs their host before UT acquisition can see it, then the last seen field will not be updated.  This kind of thing is why we added Dynamc UT.  Dynamic UT allows UT to get notified when users enter or exit the network in near real-time.

  • Upgrade from LMS 3.0.1 to LMS 3.1 or 3.2 and problem with devices update

    Hello
How to upgrade from LMS 3.0 December 2007 update to LMS 3.1 or LMS 3.2. The problem is the large number of C2960S-24TS-L  switches that my organization has and cannot managed them..
I tried to upgrade devices through Software Center but always Ciscoworks informs me with the following message.
"Error while downloading package information from Cisco.com for the selected  products. See the log file for details".
Also i can not run EOL/EOS inventory report. The message is
" INVREP0102: Cisco.com user credentials are invalid. Enter correct credentials." I check my credentials and is right.
The server  has access to www through proxy without any restrictions.
In the past I've already updated devices through the software center. Also in the past i ve run EOS/EOL inventory reports.

Has anyone knows what can be the problem??.
    Thanks

    Hi,
the problem to access cisco.com is because of a "bug". Its ID is CSCto46927.
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCto46927
    Symptom:
After the 16th of June 2011 LMS will no longer  be able to download Software and Device Package updates, or PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information from CCO
    Conditions:
Hosted  services in Cisco.com that are being leveraged by LMS, for downloading  the latest Software and Device Package updates, as well as the PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information are being migrated to a new framework and  the old services will be retired.
This will affect all LMS 3.x and 4.x versions.
Refer to https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16806 for more information
    Workaround:
Users of LMS 3.2.1 , 4.0 should install the patch that can be downloaded from cisco.com
Users of earlier version will need to upgrade to LMS 3.2 and then install the LMS 3.2 SP1 patch set before installing the patch"
Because of that it is necessary to upgrade not only to 3.1 or 3.2, you need 3.2.1 to get the patch and then access to cisco.com again.
The question about the better way for updating I can't answer. I did a update to 3.1 and then to 3.2. But I think you will find the requirements for the updates in the notes for them.
But I can't find LMS 3.1 in the cisco download center. There is only 3.2 and 3.2.1 available for me.

  • How do you install RSAC 4.3.2 when upgrading to ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1?

We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 which we have recently updated to ciscoworks 3.2.1 using the ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 patch file.  In the "Readme for CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2 Service Pack 1" document, it says that you have to install the Remote Syslog Collector 4.3.2 separately.  It says the file (setup.exe) is located at disk1/RSAC.  However, ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 only appears to be a patch file and when we ran the patch file on our Remote Syslog Collector server, the version remained at 4.3.0.  When I looked at the server where RME is installed (version 4.3.2), it says that Syslog Analyzer is 4.3.2 and Syslog Collector is version 4.3.0.  The patch file doesn't look like it has the installation files for RSAC 4.3.2 and there doesn't seem to be a directory that was created on the RME server to install the updated RSAC from, so how do you upgrade from RSAC 4.3.0 to RSAC 4.3.2?

I opened up a TAC case, worked with TAC, and was able to update RSAC to version 4.3.2.  The procedure is:
    1. Download the ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1 patch file to the remote syslog server.
    2. Create a temporary directory on the remote syslog server (ex. c:\test)
    3. Go into the directory with the extracted LMS 3.2.1 patch file and type the command:
    Ciscoworks_LMS_3.2.1.exe /extract_all:c:\test
    4.  Go into the c:\test directory and find the RSAC folder.  In the RSAC folder is a setup file.  Run setup and install RSAC 4.3.2 over RSAC 4.3.0 (if you uninstall RSAC 4.3.0, you will get a message saying that RSAC 4.3.0 must be installed before installing RSAC 4.3.2)
    5. Check the installation by going to Common Services->Software Center->Software Update on the remote syslog server.  The version should be RSAC 4.3.2.

  • LMS 4.2.3 Update Issue

Is anybody else seeing an issue in applying package updates in LMS 4.2.3?
I am getting an error whether going via the GUI or CLI. The key issue appears to be (acroding to the PSU.log):
[ Sat May 11 16:41:25 EST 2013 ] ERROR  [PsuPkgResolver : pickUnselectedBasePackages]  : Consistency check failed for base package SharedSwimRtr800(2.2)
    I have the version 2.0.1 of SharedSwimRtr800:
    327.
    SharedSwimRtr800
    2.0.1
    SharedSwimRtr800 device package
...and I can't seem to find 2.2 anywhere in the downloads section for LMS 4.2.

The patch is a zip file which includes both the patch and a readme file. Follow the instructions (excerpted below) and the patch will invoke Perl to run a script that copies a bunch of files from one location to another on your server
It takes about 10 minutes to complete - wait until you are presented with your command prompt again to know that it's done.
    The readme states, in part:
    Patch Install Instructions:
Step 1. Download the patch to any temp directory other than NMSROOT, the directory where CiscoWorks is installed.
    Step 2. Untar/Unzip the patch.
Step 3. Go to the directory to which you Untarred/Unzipped the patch.
Step 4: Execute the following command:
    On Solaris: NMSROOT/bin/perl CSCue69689-1.pl
    On Windows: NMSROOT\bin\perl CSCue69689-1.pl
    On Soft Appliance: NMSROOT/bin/perl CSCue69689-1.pl
Note : NMSROOT is the directory where CiscoWorks is installed.

I'm slowly getting to a dead end here. What am I missing?

Well, our problem was resolved finally through a weird coincendence after having a websession with a Cisco TAC engineer (TAC case SR 613376661)
    We changed the
    snmp-server group readonly v3 auth context vlan-xxxx
    commands in the switches to:
    snmp-server group writeonly v3 auth context vlan-xxxx
that is: use the writestring in the snmp-server groups instead of the read string.
After we changed that, all of the User Tracking mysteriously started working.
As far as I know, the writestring should not be needed, but apparently it is....
Is there any explanation for this?

  • LMS 2.6 / RME 4.0.6 : Update device packages

              Hi All,
I want update device packages for the device Unknow c3560v2 and ME2400 on ciscoworks lms 2.6.

    CV = 6.1.5
    DFM = 2.0.7
    IPM = 2.6.0
    RME = 4.0.6
The server doesn't have access internet so i downloaded files and copy this on directory psu.
    1) I've tried directely upgrading the device package in RME, but it failed. He want file mdf v1.22 and the version is V1.20.
    2) I've upgrading CiscoView for device, it's ok
    3) I've upgrading Campus Manager with version 4.0.13, it's ok
    4) I've tried upgrading the device package in RME, but it failed. He want file mdf v1.27 and the version is V1.25 after upgrade Campus.
I don't find on site cisco the version 1.27 of mdf, where i can found this file ?
I have the version 1.56 but it's compatible for LMS 2.6 and RME 4.0.6 ?
How can uninstall a version of mdf if I have a problem with this version?
    thanks

Indeed. It does look like the only MDF available is 1.52 for CS 3.0
    I also saw the note:
You must install Campus Manager 4.0.13 and MDF 1.27 before installing CMDeviceUpdates 2.0.

FYI.  LMS 2.6 is EOL.  As such I suggest you contact your account team to see if they can acquire it for you.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Kindly check if you have CSCtj20850-0.info at location CSCOpx\setup\patch
Try this workaround too as it look like rme map files got corrupted :-
    Navigate to -->
    CSCOpx/www/classpath/com/cisco/nm/xms/psu/maps
Backup these two files (rme*.map) at another location and finally delete them from this location. You need to stop the daemon manager to be able to delete this files with the command net stop crmdmgtd.
Now, run the following command two command, rememer they are one line command :-
    1>
    set NMSROOT=%CWMIBDIR%\..\..\..
    2>
    %NMSROOT%\lib\jre\bin\java -classpath %NMSROOT%\lib\jre\lib;%NMSROOT%\lib\classpath;%NMSROOT%\objects\log4j\1.1.3\log4j.jar;%NMSROOT%\MDC\tomcat\shared\lib\MICE.jar;%NMSROOT%\MDC\tomcat\shared\lib\NATIVE.jar;%NMSROOT%\MDC\tomcat\shared\lib\jdom.jar;%NMSROOT%\www\classpath;%NMSROOT%\lib\classpath\servlet.jar;%NMSROOT%\MDC\tomcat\webapps\cwhp\WEB-INF\classes com.cisco.nm.xms.psu.packagemgmt.map.CreateMaps %NMSROOT%\www\classpath\com\cisco\nm\xms\psu\pkgs\rme
The above workaround should generate the rme*.map files again and then it should work fine.
Now, start the daemon manager and wait for 20 minutes before logging back to CiscoWorks.
Note :- Its important to backup (rme*.map) before deleting them.
    Many Thanks,
