CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution

What is the difference between VMS server and VMS client?

Server runs VMS, the client is anything that will connect to the VMS console remotely.

Will VMS v2.3 support IDSM/IPS 6.x when it is released in the near future?

    Hi,
    The short answer is no.

  • Install cisco security manager

    Good morning:
I adquire a CSM license and need install, only have one server and this is installed LMS 3.2.
Follow the installation instructions, i found that this CSM can't be installed in the same server that LMS.
    This is the paragraph:
"We do not support the coexistence of Security Manager with any third-party software or other Cisco software (including any CiscoWorks-branded “solution” or “bundle,” such as the LAN Management Solution [LMS] or the VPN/Security Management Solution [VMS]), unless we state explicitly otherwise in this guide or at http://www.cisco.com/go/csmanager
Someone can tell me if this is definitive or can install both in the same server.
    Thank's in advanced

Yes both cannot be installed on the same server. Even if you manage it by some 'fancy' trick, it won't be supported by Cisco TAC. If you have only one physical server available, consider VMWARE. Regards

  • Feedback - CiscoWorks Security Information Management Solution

Can somebody share his experience with
CiscoWorks Security Information Management Solution (CiscoWorks SIMS)?
How do you like it? Is it doing what it is supposed to do well?
    Thanks

I have installed the SIMS 3.1 appliance into a small web hosting network. I have 4 Cisco IDS, 8 routers, and 6 Pix firewalls all reporting to the unit.
I am in the process of exploring all the different reports available. So far I am happy with automated reporting capability.
I have found that the vast majority of events are due to system misconfiguration, network cleanup, etc. There is definitely a significant effort to tune your reporting devices in order to avoid false positives and other "noise".
I am also looking into the Risk Management cabability but the documentation is less than helpful. Apparently the "brute force" method of just diving in and testing all the capabilities of the system is the only way to really learn it.
Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will do my best to answer.

  • Manage a Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine?

    Hello,
how can i manage/observe a 'Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine'? Ich found no things like SNMP etc.
    regards
    Karsten

    Hi,
you have no chance to control the ACS SE with snmp. We have one router, access via ACS and uses a script roboter to control the access to the router. If the access fails, we send us an email

  • Cisco Security Manager Advice

    Hi,
I'm looking into Cisco Security Manager. From what I understand you can monitor and manage Cisco security appliances. I'm interested in the monitoring of our Cisco ASAs - specifically, monitoring VPN sessions and their  trending over months at a time and I would like to monitor other Cisco devices on the network for link problems/performance and such - I don't want to use Cisco Security Manager as a management point. Would Cisco Security Manager not be the right tool for this?
We have SolarWinds and I've heard that you can assign UnDPs(Device Pollers) to devices you want to monitor, including ASAs and these pollers can give you trending for VPN sessions with graphing. I just want to make the most of our budget dollars.
    Any advice?
    Thanks, Pat.

CSM 4.3 and above can be used to monitor VPN sessions on Cisco ASAs. You can definitely use CSM as a monitoring only solution for ASAs (without using it for management). You can also explicitly disable policy change privileges for all admins so they do not modify stuff by mistake. Note however that CSM is primarily focused on end-to-end management scenarios (including policy change, troubleshooting, reporting, etc). So you may not find all the bells and whistles in CSM for monitoring scenarios that you may find with some of the pure monitoring only solutions.

  • Cisco Security Manager 3.2.1 Sp1 and Public Key Infrastructure

    Hi, all!
Recently I created configuration on PIX (FOS 7.2.4) with Cisco Security Manager 3.2.1 Sp1 to allow to work with certificate-based authentication of VPN connections. CSM created necessary commands (and unfortunately many necessary commands left unsupported too). But every time I upload new configuration (even with untouched PKI configuration) CSM adds following command - "crypto ca enroll CA-NAME noconfirm".
Right now I created FlexConfig which just do "no crypto ca....". And it works. But is there more clean solution? Why do I need to enroll every deployment?
    Wait for answers.
    With best regards
    Maxim

    Hello,
I'm having the same problem for one of our customers! but flexconfig didn't work!
Can you please be more specific what exactly you did! Flex config doens't remove generated command it's adding the no crypto ca enroll 'trustpoint name' after the generated crypto ca enroll 'trustpoint name'
I've been also looking for related bugs but didn't find any!

  • Problem In Client Security Manager

    My LapTop is 450G2.
I am using the hp client security manager software.
    I had a question:
If Password Manager does not detect some of the program or website such as logon screen automatically
Or Not appear The logon Sign In the corner of The website automatically How should I fix this probleme?
    In other words
If I want to Use  the software "Digital Person Personal" , What should I do?
    HELP ME PLEASE

    Hi
You could try the new password manager.
     http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS031504
Or you could try to delete all the files,
Find Client Security Solution in user profile folder (Search hidden), and delete them all.
    And restart system.
Before doing this, remember to export passwords

  • Disable or uninstal HP ProtectTools security manager

My fingerprint scanner has gone down.
I assume it is a hardware issue as have gone through all HP recomendations to get it working at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c02519007&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
    but nothing has worked.
Anyway the notebook never leaves my house so it's not an issue. However, everytime I turn the notebook on and log in with my password, HP security manager butts in and spends a minute looking for the reader before telling me the biometric authentication service is not working and asks if I would like to continue without it.
Can I disable this program to speed boot up time as it is not needed in my instance?

    Hi @taliz ,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.
Even though this is a Commercial product, You could follow these steps, even though, I don't recommend this as it is Security Tools.
Step 1:Click Start, then "All Programs." Select "HP Protect Tools Security Manager" from the list of programs.
Step 2:Click "Settings." Click the box to the left of the menu. The green check in the box should disappear, which means that the application is disabled.
Step 3:Close the window and restart the computer.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • No security manager: RMI class loader disabled Error at RMI client programm

Got following error on invoking remote method from RMI client,
java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling return; nested exception is:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.rmi.RmiImpl_Stub (no security manager: RMI class loader disabled)
    Please let me know solution.

    Hello JAAZ,
I got the same error yesterday. I was a little frustrated, because the day before everything was fine...
java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling return; nested exception is:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: uk.co.it.ete.server.ETE_Server (no security manager: RMI class loader disabled)
at sun.rmi.registry.RegistryImpl_Stub.lookup(Unknown Source)The solution was, that I did some refactoring and some of the classes were now in different packages. I updated the system on the client-side and now everything works again.
I think debugging RMI-applications is not as easy as "normal" applications ..
    maybe this helps..

  • Wireless network management solution

We are running a pilot project to deploy a centralize wireless solution for our campus. The pilot consists of only about 20 Cisco1200 access points. We are in need of Network Management solution to manage these access points. The NMS would have to pretty much behave like what we already have into place for our wired networks such as: alerts on snmp traps, thresholds settings, data capture, administration, etc, in general be able to proactively check possible shortcomings on the infrastructure and help to troubleshoot problems. Once we fully deploy the centrally controlled wireless network, there could be any way from 1200 to 1500 access points, so whichever system we choose must be able to scale to these numbers.
I’m interested in knowing which wireless network management solutions are the preferred one from the audience on this forum. Your input will help me to narrow down possible options.
Thanks a lot for any information.

I would suggest that you go for the WLSE. CiscoWorks WLSE is a centralized, systems-level application for managing and controlling an entire Cisco Aironet WLAN infrastructure. For more information on this read

  • Cisco Security Manager and User-aware firewall rules

    Hello !
I have a firewall ASA which is managed with CSM and I try to create some user-aware rules. To do this, I need to match CSM with an Active Directory server.
I added an AAA server group matching my Active Directory server in the Identity Setting menu from Security Manager Administration and when i click on "Test", I obtain the error message "Unsuccessful Bind prevented to fetch data, please reconfigure AAA server".
What can I do to solve this problem ?
    Thank you !
    Stephane

You can contact your local AM to get an evaluations version, this is related to the new 'restricted' downloaded access on CCO. You need to have a service contract assocaited for that 'specific' product to download software (I know it does not make sense in case of an evaluation).
And you also have the following alternate:
    Note:
This download does not include  CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials (RME). For customers that wish to  also evaluate CiscoWorks RME or that prefer a media format rather than a  large download, an evaluation DVD can be ordered from Cisco  Marketplace. At http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/marketplace/welcome.pl,  navigate to the Collateral and Subscriptions Store and search for part  number EVAL-CSMGR-4.0.

  • Differences in setting a security manager

    Hello,
what is the difference between installing a security manager using a system property like this:
-Djava.security.manager=java.rmi.RMISecurityManagerand by executing the following at the beginning of the main method:
    if (System.getSecurityManager() == null) {
         System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
}To my understanding of the various reference documentations for java security, they should be equivalent in the obtained result. In my case, however, the system property one doesn't work, that is classes are not downloaded dynamically; everything works fine with the java code solution.
    Many thanks,
    valerio

    Works for me.
-Djava.security.manager=java.rmi.RMISecurityManagerThis argument needs to appear first on the command line, before any other -D and -jar arguments.
NB the RMISecurityManager is obsolete, you can use java.lang.SecurityManager. See the Javadoc. You can just specify:
    -Djava.security.manager=defaultor just:
    -Djava.security.manager

  • Cisco Security Manager evaluation

How to download CSM software for evaluation ? CSM Q&A state -
Anybody with a valid cisco.com account can download Cisco Security Manager and use the software for up to
90 days in evaluation mode. Visit  http://www.cisco.com/go/csmanager  and select the “Download Software”
But when I click "Download" I get "To Download this software, you must have a valid service contract associated to your Cisco.com user ID."
