CK 15W - bad audio quality

Hi,
I just got a brand new CK 15W car kit. I've installed myself (not too much trouble as my car had another older nokia carkit installed so it was just a matter of cable switching).
I am using Nokia 6120 classic brand new phone.
After 2 days in use, I can tell the audio quality is extremely bad. I can hear very well the other party, but they all complain that they do not hear me.
They say I sound like talking from a barrel.
Really disappointed. Called Nokia today. They have no suggestions other than saying that 6120 is not yet fully tested with CK-15W.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Claudiu

Glad to hear it's not a problem with the 6120c itself

Welcome Anshhardcore, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!
If you would like to customise your sound quality I suggest playing around with the equalizer feature. The equalizer feature can be found inside the Media Player. The equalizer has some preset levels but also empty slots for you to make you own custom levels
I hope this helps and that you are able to achieve a sound quality you are happy with.

  • Bad audio quality - USB to headphones adaptor?

    Hello,
I've had my MBP for nearly a year now, and have had a problem with the audio quality ever since I got it. The problem occurs when the music is quiet or there is silence - there is a lot of white noise, and occasional beeps and pops. It seems that this is a common problem with MBPs? This isn't a problem I have with any other device, and is not due to the encoding of the music (the same music library produced excellent sound on my old 12" powerbook).
I was wondering whether there exist any good quality (and small) USB adaptors for headphones? I presume this would solve the problem by bypassing the audio card altogether? If so, could anyone recommend such an adaptor that would be mac-compatible?
    Thanks!

Not an answer to your question. But I got confirmation last week that this is a known issue. See my earlier thread. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7831115
I'd be interested to know about any headphone adaptor you find. You should send the bill to Apple though.

  • Very bad audio quality through Thunderbolt/HDMI

The last year or so I had been using a Windows 7 laptop, connected to my HDTV as an extra display through an auxilary cable for the audio and a VGA for the video, then I plugged in another cable to the headphone socket on the TV which ran into my 2 channel stereoand the quality of the audio and video was always excellent. I recently got a MacBook Pro 13" (mid-2012), it's the best thing ever. I'm doing good with learning all the tips and tricks for Mac, but there is one problem I can't fix. I bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable, and plugged it into the MacBook to the TV, and the video is outstanding, but the audio is completely opposite. It is absolutely terrible. The mid frequencies sound alright-ish, but the high treble and bassy frequencies are just really, really bad.
Through headphones or even out the in-built speakers, everything sounds better.
I've tried it on multiple TV's so it not the TV, it must be something to do with the output settings or the cable.
I don't feel like buying another cable yet, so I want to see if anything else works first.
    Any ideas?

    CJBaily14,
I would think it is the cable or adapter, but things you can check into are system preferences>sound, output tab and make sure your TV is selected in the side bar. Another is Applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, open that and click the output tab, select HDMI from the side bar on the left and try changing the rates and see if that does anything. If this does it with other TV's and you were using the sme cable/adapter, especially if the HDMI cable is old it might not have the spec for audio as all HDMI cables are not created equal.
You could also try a PRAM reset, power down, power back up holding the following keys: COMMAND+OPTION+P+R  continue to hold these kys till you hear the start chime 2 times then release.
If you search the web for VESA specs you will find plenty of info. You can also check with Apple store for suff that is compatible.

  • IPhone 4S on iOS 6 GM has bad audio quality for Siri and a few other apps, will it be fixed before release?

Is there enough time for this to be fixed before release? I have the gold master and it's usually the final version so
I hope they sort it out.

It did not get fixed, my wife uses her iphone to play music on when she have dance classes (as everybody else does), now the sound is so bad that she have to bring her macbook to get a normal good sound.
We look forward to an update so she can use her phone again to play music on.

  • ITunes CD burns bad audio quality

Audio does not play on non-iTunes devices, such as automobile CD players or other CD or DVD players. Either the sound is completely distorted and/or the player does not recognize the iTunes disc. The imported audio files are in AIF format. Thank you for your attention.
    Carson Dunbar

You say you are creating AIF files. The thing is CD players can't play AIF files but your computer can, which may be why it works on your computer but not in other players. The files need to be burned to CDs as Audio format (specified in the burning section of iTunes), not data. The files are similar to AIFF but it makes a world of difference to a CD player which format you use.
If you are doing this correctly you could try things such as slower burn speeds. Your home player is pretty new and should be able to handle burned CDs. Your car player is about the same vintage as a boombox I have in the kitchen that has all kinds of problems with burned CDs though occasionally I can get one to play.

  • Retina Macbook pro audio quality is bad in windows 8.1

Like the title states, my Retina Macbook pro's (2012 model) audio quality is very bad in windows 8.1. It is unbearable to listen to music on it. I am using the latest bootcamp drivers, 5.1. I believe this is a driver problem, as it sounds fine in OS X. I tried to find the proper driver myself with no luck. I feel this is unacceptable on a computer I spent so much money on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes...
I also just recently purchased a MacBook Pro retina 15 (mid-2014) with bootcamp (windows 8.1) installed.  While using my windows partition, the MBP seems to be running a bit hot, at least hotter than the OS X partition.
As for comparison, I have the 2012 MacBook Pro retina 13 with bootcamp (windows 8.1).  It does not get as hot as the 15, and in fact, I don't think it runs hotter than OS X...
Any thoughts?  Is it perhaps because I have the NVIVIDA dedicated graphics and in the windows partition, IRIS PRO isn't running?

  • Bad DVD quality

Imported video as "large" from Sony HDR SR12. burned a DVD using Toast 11. I realize Std def on a 40" LCD is not ideal but I expected better. I have Blu ray  and plan to burn HD or BD but some friends do not. Render the movie in Imovie and then burn or import the raw footage into Toast and burn?  I tried to increase the Mbps to 7-8 in Toast but that extended my approx 1 hour video to 2 disks needed? I otherwise tried to use the best quality settings. Any tips appreciated!

    Hi
May be my notes can give an idea ?
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start. (Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other res.) (I never use "Share to iDVD" any version of iMovie)
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • External speaker audio quality

I find that the audio quality from the external speaker on my Touch is very poor.
I don't have to turn the volume up very much before the sound starts to become distorted. Anything close to half of the full volume or higher, the distortion is so bad it's not even worth listening to.
This problem is most noticeable when using the external speaker to listen to music. I don't notice it when listening to audio from a video on YouTube.
I realize that this speaker must be extremely small and that the audio won't be the greatest but, just wondering if this is a common characteristic or if it's a problem with my unit.

P Fleming wrote:Anything close to half of the full volume or higher, the distortion is so bad it's not even worth listening to.
It's still better than nothing. It beats having to dig out the headphones or speakers when you don't have it plugged in.

  • Audio Quality

    Hey folks,
We've got a client who is looking for better audio quality than we've previously been able to get out of LCCS. Looking into it a bit, it looks like the Flash microphone class has two main quality settings: encodeQuality and rate. The MicrophoneManager allows you to set the encodeQuality (although it seems to default to the max: 10 (~42kbps)) but not the sampling rate, which defaults to something like 8 or 11 kHz. Is there a reason for this? Would it be a particularly bad idea to up the sampling rate on the mic manually if we'd like to improve audio quality?
Also, in the Flash Microphone class documentation (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/Microphone. html) it looks like the rate can be set to 5, 8, 11, 22, 44 kHz. Another article I found on audio capture (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/dev/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9b90204-7d1d.html) seems to suggest that those settings are available with the Nellymoser codec only, and that the SPEEX codec, which is recommended for LCCS, can only do 16 kHz sampling. Was wondering if that article might not be a bit outdated and if we might not be able to set the rate to something higher (the wikipedia entry on SPEEX seems to suggest that it can handle 32 kHz).
Our client was hoping for relatively high grade audio quality - I believe he wanted, in an ideal world, something like 44kHz sampling frequency and 96kbps bitrate. I don't know if these values are possible, but I'd hope that we can improve the audio quality to some degree.
Do you have any suggestions on how to produce higher quality audio from LCCS? Are there any other factors in the audio quality that I'm neglecting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Davis

    like this....
                        private var audioCodec:String="Nellymoser";
                        private function onTimerComplete(p_evt:TimerEvent):void
                                            activityTimer.start();
                                            if ( audioPub.isPublishing && !audioPub.isPaused ) {
                                                      if (audioPub.microphone.codec.toLocaleLowerCase()=="speex" && myCodec=="Nellymoser") {audioPub.microphone.codec=myCodec;audioPub.microphone.setSilenceLevel(0,666666);}
                        blablabla....
Even if I apply the codec this way:  <rtc:AudioPublisher id="audioPub" codec="Nellymoser"
when a new user enters or leaves the room the audioPub.codec switch to Speex. To correct this, I can reapply the codec and also setSilencelevel but the audio stream will be stopped for 1 or 2 sec.

  • Terrible audio quality in 5.1 mode

    Hi !
This issue has been here for a while, but it's only now that I come to try to get a fix for it ...
So, it's been a few version that I've noted that the sound was really bad when playing videos on youtube and came to realize that this was fixed when I switched my audio configuration from 5.1 to just stereo in the windows configuration.
I've searched a bit and it seems that flash proudly converts stereo audio sources into 6 channels using the Dolby ProLogic II algorithm. This would probably be fine if it was customizable and de-activable, which it is not right now.
From what I hear, my subwoofer is overloaded with sounds and seems to be used to play low-medium sounds rather than just the deep basses it's meant to.
I have also noticed that, in the sound configuration of windows, I can specify whether my satellites have a broad spectrum or not, but this doesn't seem to change the issue.
Sure, I can get my audio quality back by going to the windows sound configuration and switch to stereo, but I don't want to do that everytime I use flash and then change it again everytime I play a movie or a video game.
The simplest way in my opinion would be to have an option to disable that audio conversion in the flash client.
In case the algorithm for upgrading stereo to 5.1 is customizable, could we perhaps also get access to these parameters (for this kind of algorithm, I would really expect a way to specify the ranges for the individual speakers)
    Thanks,
    WishGate.

    Standard track height:
and no waveform. Now extend it vertically,
and voila, the whole waveform. Just drag down the bottom of the audio track to make it wider (vertically) and there you are.

  • Windows Xp bad sound quality after installing itunes 10.5

After installing itunes 10.5 to be able to get the ios5 update my itunes plays every file with really bad, distorted quality. I try other players even Quicktime works fine. What could be happening?

Try to download, and install the latest Realtek HD Audio driver.
    Here is the download link:

Select the second options (High Definition Audio Codecs (Software))
And when you install this, i think everything will be good.

    Welcome to Discussions, Little Eddy
Depending on whether you mean sound you hear or how you sound to others, here are some ideas for your consideration:
    (1) Call from an area with less background noise.
    (2) Use an iPhone. Its sound quality is superior to iPod touch.
    (3) Try http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB770G/B It sounds better in my tests than internal mic.
    (4) For FaceTime on your iMac, sit closer to the Mac's mic. Also test speaking louder.
    (5) For FaceTime on your Mac, try a USB mic like http://store.apple.com/us/product/T6831LL/A
    (6) Both you and your connection should test with other users to determine who has the problem.
    (7) If sound you hear from other end, ask your contact to double check that his mic is not obstructed by a case, fingers, etc.
