Clamshell Mode Question - Yosemite - Volume Controls on External Keyboard

Forum,
I was wondering if it was possible while in clamshell mode to, instead having to use the remote on the TV to adjust volume controls, but rather use the external board to control the TV's volume controls?
Obviously when I change the output device to the Macbook Pro the speakers kick on, a lot lower than the TV of course, but the external keyboard picks back up the volume control scroller. Again when I switch it back to the TV the TV speakers kick back on.
I am using a Macbook Pro (Late 2011) on Yosemite 10.10.1.
Using a HDMI adapter to connect to the TV, and the keyboard is the Corsair Gaming keyboard.
Thanks in advance!

Here is what worked for me.  My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly.  I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below.  Hope it helps you too!

  • Clamshell mode and mouse not working on external monitor

Suddenly I notice that when I put my MBP (late model 2008, Lion) in clamshell mode, my blue tooth mouse and wireless keyboard become unresponsive
I think the MBP has frozen but its only that the mouse and keyboard do not respond.
I have to open the MBP in order for the mouse to work so I can work using the externa (Apple 24" monitor).
    This just started happening.
    Has anyone experienced this?
Just started happening as of yesterday March 19. I cannot think of anything new I downloaded. Rebooting did not seem to help.

  • Os X Yosemite Volume Control Won't Work

Since upgrading I've had serious issues with my volume control on my macbook pro. First is that the keyboard buttons won't do anything. I can press them and the picture shows up saying they're moving the volume up and down, but on the actual menu bar icon, nothing changes. Also, when I plug things into my computer I have to manually open the preferences to change the output, and once I do that I have to wait about 5 mins for it to register the change. I've tried restarting my computer many times but it doesn't seem to fix the issue :s.  HELP!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List

  • KT3 Ultra2 Problems. Baby Steps. Question 1: Volume controls

The volume control window in Windows XP Pro is using the "wave" file volume slider, not my "CDplayer" volume slider. I checked to make sure that I have set the CD-player to use analogue sound. Is this normal?
    Lite-on 48X24X48 CDRW
    MSI Ultra2 (no raid)
    Onboard sound AC97
    Fresh clean WinXP install
    Thanks

Just wanted to let you know that I have experienced the same characteristic on a Kt3 Ultra2 and onboard audio.  I have also noticed a similar situation with Windows XP using a Creative SB Live 5.1 on a K7M mobo and a Santa Cruz sound card on an A7V333 mobo.
I will also be interested in finding out how to make a change to enable controlling the audio level on the analogue CD ROM input.  I believe it is a Win XP issue and not an issue with the KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio or its associated driver.

  • Right-click on Magic Mouse and Volume Controls on Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 on an Late 2012 iMac.
One morning the right click on my Magic Mouse and the volume controls on the wireless keyboard stopped working.
These mouse and keyboard themselves seem fine; they work okay ehn used on a MacBook.
Everything else about the mouse and keyboard is fine.
This seems to be a problem what has been around for a whole, with a wide variety of solutions.
    I have read
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16799039#16799039
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23474052#23474052
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19660884#19660884
    and have tried
Clicking on and off the 'right click' checkbox in the Mouse System Preferences - No effect
    Deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist - No effect
Restarting in Safe Mode - When starting in safe mode, the computer crashes out and restarted
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM - Is it CTRL+CMD+P+R or CMD+OPT+P+R ?  Neither work for me (I do try it using a wired keyboard, but never get the double chime)
Upgraded to 10.9.2 - no effect
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext and and back in (and re-authenticate) - No joy
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext from a working MacBook on same OS - Made the keyboard misbehave even more
Has anyone got any other cures for this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • External display's brightness can no longer be controlled with external keyboard in 10.8.2

I can no longer control external display's brightness with external keyboard.
Until now my external keyboard controlled external display's brightness and MBPr's keyboard MBPr's brightness. Now the only way of changing external display's brightness is via Display preferences which is cumbersome
Is there any way of going to pre 10.8.2 settings?

I noticed that the keyboard and tablet were'nt working when plugged into a usb hub or monitor usb port.  I had to plug in the keyboard and tablet into a mbp usb port where they worked.  For some reason, after plugging them back into the usb hub they worked again.  Could just be dumb luck though.

  • Lion + volume control external soundcard

    Dear Apple users,
I recently bought my iMac 2,5 Ghz (didn't buy it brand new). I installed the iMac to factory settings.
On the moment I am using Lion 10.7.5. Is it necessary for me to update to Mountain Lion? What are differences that I am gonna experience with Mountain Lion?
Another question is about my external soundcard
I' m using a M-Audio Fast Track Pro (1.8.1. drivers). The card is working. But, I can't set it as my main sound card. So I cant use the volume control on my keyboard. When Im going to System Settings -> Sound; the input/output settings aren't recognized by my Mac?
    Whats the problem?

    No one?

  • MacBook late 2008 - stuck in clamshell mode

This laptop was recently attached to an external display and all was fine - running in either mirror or non-mirror mode. When I last saw it it was set to mirror mode and the lid closed to effect "clamshell" mode.
Recently however it has got into a state where the built-in screen display is not recognised. The external display is OK. If the external display is disconnected the MacBook will go to sleep regardless of the lid being open or pressing keys etc.
On a reboot the laptop screen will show everything OK up until a few seconds after completeing the login phase - then it goes black.
There is a lot of chatter in various forums about sleep issues but I can't see much about this particular variation. I've spent several hours scanning through these discussions and general Google searches.
As I say in the title - the symptoms appear to be that the firmware believes the lid is closed and hence the OS X software, such as display preferences, gets locked out from accessing the display after startup is complete. If the OS decides there is no display present it puts the MacBook to sleep.
I have reset the PRAM and SMC, rebooted in Safe Mode, deleted the display preferences plist file, run the Apple Hardware Test - all with no change to the symptoms.
Hass anybody reading this observed the same symptom and noted a method to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Graham

I had a similar issue where my Late 2008 Macbook would get stuck in closed clamshell mode after connecting and disconnecting an external display, or just closing the lid.  Only rebooting the machine would bring back internal video.
External video continued working via the mini displayport, but the internal display would stay black no matter if the external display was connected or not.  I was also unable to adjust the display brightness from the internal keyboard, pressing the F1 and F2 keys had no effect (even while holding fn key).  Resetting PRAM and SMC had no effect.
I resolved all aforementioned issues by replacing the HDD Bracket with IR/Sleep Cable.  This can likely be done fairly cheaply at a local Apple Store.
I might suggest first having the HDD Cable and or IR/Sleep Cable reseated on the main logic board, before replacing anything.

  • Clamshell Mode Has Changed?

Okay, So I am enjoying Lion very much, it's a pretty sweet upgrade. However, I've run into a big problem and it's a feature I loved in Snow Leopard and it works under Windows 7 (BootCamp) as well, In Windows 7 I can just easily choose what Display I want to use, why Mac OS X doesn't have this feature is beyond me.
So I'd go through putting my Macbook Pro into Clamshell mode, and wake it with the Apple Keyboard, but after I've turned the Macbook back on, I'd open the lid to help keep my MacBook Pro running cooler, this was when I was on Snow Leopard...Now in Lion, everytime I open the lid the built-in display turns back on!
MacBook Pro 15" it's the model with the Thunderbolt Port, and the external monitor is using HDMI.
Anyone know of a solution to turn off the Built-In Display like Snow Leopard did?

I also have the same problem. There were big operating temperature improvements to be gained by running the MacBook Pro in clamshell mode with the lid open (but the in-built screen still turned off) as opposed to closed whilst using a 27" LED external display under Snow Leopard. Other uses have reported performance improvements, too.
The instructions for how the internal display is supposed to behave whilst in clamshell mode remain unchanged here (last updated May 2011): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131?viewlocale=en_US
I have just upgraded to Lion and am appalled to discover that I can't now open the lid of the MBP without the display springing to life. I neither want nor need two displays live at once!
Apple: PLEASE provide a fix so that the display setup behaves like it used to under Snow Leopard. It's summer time and I have no aircon, so this is pretty urgent from my point of view!

  • Internet while in clamshell mode, macbook pro

Whenever I have my MacBook Pro in clamshell mode while using it with an external display, it seems that the speed of my internet lowers drastically, but when I open the laptop (while keeping it connected to the external display so that the attached screen remains off), the internet comes back full force... Is there any way to fix this, or is it not something that I can fix? Or maybe is it just a coincidence and it just happens that every time I try this, the internet is just generally slow? I use the clamshell mode a lot now, so it would be nice if the internet was as fast as if the laptop were open..

This is probably because on the MacBook Pro, the WiFi antenna is built into the hinge, so when you close the lid, the antenna's reception is severely impaired. This is a Homer Simpson "doh" moment for the Apple designers.
Here's some discussion of the problem:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=386891
Personally when running my MBP in clamshell mode I connect to my router with a USB cable, which totally eliminates the problem.

  • Wireless keyboard volume control

Finally paired my wireless keyboard with the older Mac and cannot get the volume controls on the keyboard to work at all. Keeps taking me to widgets or closing current window when I hit the F11 or F12 buttons. I tried going to system preferences, disconnecting, powering down and repowering keyboard per a post I found (which worked for the person who asked the question initally) but it will not work for me. Can someone help me to get my volume controls to function properly?
    Thank you.

    Hello b:
Look in system preferences>keyboard. Is the use F1,F2… box unchecked?
    Try a couple of things:
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
    Reset PRAM:

Reset the SMC (look in the knowledge-base articles. Your profile is not complete and I cannot point you at the specific article).

  • Volume control doesn't work, sometimes

I've noticed recently sometimes my volume control on the keyboard doesn't change the volume at all. I would have to go into the System Preferences and change it from there. There would be different situations where this will happen: (sometimes) after opening the computer from sleep, (sometimes) in the middle of using the computer, (sometimes, most of the time) when plugging external speaker into the headphone jack. Most of the time everything is fine after resetting, only 1 time where I had to reset again.
I'm trying to not have to restore the OS as i don't want to reinstall all my software again.
    Any help is appreciated.
    THANKS! In Advance

    Same problem^
    Well...kind of.
    Here's an example...
I'm watching a youtube video- the youtube video's sound is halfway up and the video is too quiet.
no problem I'll turn up the volume on the youtube video- my cursor is already there, hitting fnF12 (because nerds like f keys) is far too difficult- who has time to move that far, anyways?
    youtube volume adjusted.
    glad that's done.
    It's still too quiet!
    guh.
    Command+Left Arrow
    Spacebar.
    sigh.
    Fine.
    Left Hand:
    fn (pinky);
    Right Hand:
    F12 (pinky).
    "*click*
    *click*
    *click*"
my pinkys say to flashback (name of my computer. get it? because of the flashback trojan?! I know. I, too, thought it was hilarious.).
"click click click" the Volume icon replies.
"My computer and I make such a good team" I think to myself as I press the spacebar (to play the youtube video).
    Same volume.
    Frown level raised.
    fnF12 x3
    click click click
    Each click is equally loud.
    Frown level set to maximum.
    Apple. System Preferences. Sound. Output.
    Internal speakers?
    selected.
    Balance?
A little to the left, just the way I like it.
Output volume, what are you doing down there?!
    You had me worried sick.
    Trackpad click, slide.
    CLICK.
Atta boy- Youtube I'm comin' for you.
    Spacebar.
    TOO LOUD FNF11 FNF11 FNF11 FNF11 FNF11
    FNF10!
    Silence.
If this were a high-five, my computer just left me hangin'.
    This aggression...
    will not stand...
    man.
FINE. PRAM RESET, COME AT ME BRO.
    *Chimes at full volume* twice.
    Sure. Now you're loud.
SECONDS later (omg it took so long to load) I'm back to youtube,
    click Click CLick CLI CLICk
    adjusting volume like an OG.
    Cool. Glad that's done with.
    Later:
    click click click.
    RAGE.
    TLDR:
I adjust the volume, the computer registers it, the volume speaker/bar displays and adjusts accordingly, the actual volume doesn't change unless I go to:
    system preferences
and drag the volume slider manually.
    and who.
    on this planet.
    has time.
    for that?!

  • Volume control not working after I plug in speakers or headphones

When I turn on my 13 inch with Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or if I restart it, my volume works perfectly. However, whenever I plug in earphones or speakers the volume will be 'stuck' on the loudest it can go. When I use the volume controls on my keyboard or the slider at the top menu bar, it will make the clicking sound as if the volume is going up or down and will show the white speaker with the volume being adjusted but the volume will stay on the loudest possible setting. Even after I unplug my speakers/headphones the volume will continue to not work. There is no red light coming from the headphone jack and since it works upon startup, I'm inclined to think it's a software issue and not a hardware issue but then again, I don't know the first thing about computers. Since this has started, I've looked online for similar problems or suggestions but nobody has had this exact same issue, but I did follow the suggestions for similar issues. I repaired the disk (I could only do it for the Macintosh but I am running bootcamp with windows on the other side but I've used it maybe once for a pc only program and have never run the internet on it so I doubt the problem is coming from that side). It repaired a bunch of stuff but it didn't fix my issue. I also reset the PRAM and the NVRAM (I don't know what this does, but someone suggested it so I gave it a shot) and it did nothing. If you have a suggestion for something I can do, please be detailed, or point me to detailed instructions because my computer knowledge is very limited but I'm willing to work to fix this. Thank you!

  • Wireless Keyboard Volume control not working

    Hi all
recently got a new Envy Phonext 800 050, came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which work fine apart from the volume controls on the keyboard and I cant seem to find software/drivers for them that run under windows 8 ? any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi capnchuck,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would like you to check out Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting it has some troubleshooting steps we can try first. You may be required to download the drivers for your specific keyboard can give me the name of your keyboard  example: HP Wireless Elite Desktop Keyboard, HP Wireless Entertainment Keyboard etc.. so that I can narrow down the keyboards that are coming up with that product number. Hope to hear from you soon.
