Clarifications on BW on HANA objects

Team
I need your help to get clarification on the below points.
1. HANA Optimized cubes/dso --> I know how to migrate bw cubes/dso into hana optimized objects. But i need clarification on the below point
Suppose i have a cube in my bw system where i have created some aggregates, SPO's/partitions, created indexes,roll-ups and compression. now if i convert this cube into hana optimized info cube what will happen to all these objects already exists in the cube. please clarify.
2. I know how to create  the below objects
    a) Transient provider/Analytical index  -->  By publising HANA views we can create Transient provider and later we can do reporting on these TP.
    b) Virtual provider --> By using HANA views we can create VP and later we can use for reporting.
    c) composite provider --> By using the combination of info-cube/dso and TP and later these can be avialable for reporting.
Please correct me if i am wrong and i request you to explain the usage of these objects along with one sample business scenario for each object.
3. Importing BW models into HANA --> what is the use of importing BW models and under what situation/bussiness need we need to import the BW models. please clarify.
Note: please provide me some links where i can get some point to point documentation.
Thanks in advance.

Raj

Hi jennegolla nagaraju,
Hi,
Let me try to answer your first question here:
As you rightly told, certain process types have become obslete, but can remain(even in process chain) as such when a hana DB is used.
The obsolete rocesses do not have any function when a HDB is used. The system will simply skip them.

  • Recompile all invalid objects in live database

    Hi Expers,
Just need a clarification on recompiling all invalid objects in production database when the systems is busy.
i thought of recompile all the invalid objects using utlrp.sql script in my production database since some of few synonyms were invalid after application patch script been implemented last weekeend.
we have identifed the invalid objects now, i thought to run the utlrp.sql, what will be the consequences.
    Regards,
    Salai

    Hi Hemanth,
I'd reserve utlrp.sql for upgrades, downgrades and patchsets. I do agree 101% with above point, I a not denying on that.
If you really have a large number of invalid objects, you might choose to compile a few "selected" objects every hour instead of running a single-shot "compile all invalid objects". Rare but a possible requirement.I came across such requirement during early days of career during pushing product enhancement to production and we would have get to know the things and number of objects which would go invalid as we use to carry out testing on test databases.
I agree completely utlrp.sql is suggested and should opt for.

  • AMDPs and HANA Security

I just recently created my first AMDP.  The AMDP consisted of an ABAP Class and Method that I ran in an ABAP program to call a HANA stored procedure containing R script. I received security errors whenever any of the associated HANA objects did not reside in the _SYS_BIC schema.
Could someone please explain why this is the case?  I have MODELING, PUBLIC, and AFLPM Granted Roles. On System Privileges I only have the 'CREATE R SCRIPT' privilege. In Object Privileges I have the access to the various Schemas including _SYS_BIC and SYSTEM. Thanks for your help!!

Hi Anand, the AMDP is executed using the standard ABAP database connection (therefore as database user SAP<SID>). This user typically does not have the authorizations and user roles you mentioned above leading to the described error messages. You cannot switch the database user to your user, so you would have to request the enhancement of database use auth. / roles for the SAP<SID> in your system.

  • Part appraisals as part of OSA Status Overview in MSS?

    Hi,
I'm in the middle of a clarification phase regarding implementation of Objective Setting and Appraisal (OSA). This is my question regarding part appraisals:
In the Status Overview page/iview in MSS, the manager can prepare, see, select and modify documents with statuses like In preparation, In Planning and In Process.
If a document has the substatus "Part appraisal in process", and the manager is the first part appraiser, I would expect the document to open the part appraisal column for input when I select the document from the "In Process" column. Instead the document is opened with the Final Appraisal column open for input.
How can you include a managers part appraisal documents in the Status Overview page, or have the part appraisal column open for input?
We want to make the Status Overview the "one point of access" for the managers appraisal tasks, but is that possible within standard?
    Kind regards Henrik

    Hi Henrik,
Is your issue resolved, we did notice the similar behavior. However if BSP application HAP_DOCUMENT/documents_todo.htm is called directly, it displays the Part appraisal first and then upon completion it displays Final appraisal.
I plan on providing this as URL in MSS as an alternative till OSS status overview is fixed.
    Any info ?
    regards

  • SOA / SOAP - Direct Binding

    Hello,
I have already searched and googled for plenty for online resources about the question, although they haven't really made my concepts clear.
I am following this document - Using the Direct Binding Invocation API
Section : 36.1 Introduction to Direct Binding
    for clarifications about Direct-Binding.
Objective : Interaction between OSB and SOA Suite Components(BPEL, Mediator).
    Question 1: Why would I use a "direct-binding", instead of a "web/soap binding" ? What are the (dis)advantages ?
I am quoting snippets from the aforementioned document, around which I have some doubts.
[Document] A common way to invoke a composite is to use SOAP over HTTP.
[Question.1]  What are other ways of invoking a composite ? I am aware of SOAP over JMS, however, never used it.
[Document]  This is enabled by creating a SOAP service for your composite using web service binding. Direct binding enables Java clients to directly invoke composite services, bypassing the intermediate conversion to XML required with web service binding.
[Question.2]  What I interpret this is : Composite + WebService Binding = SOAP Service of my Composite. I added a "Direct Binding" to the composite and deployed the service. The deployed concrete "directWsdl"  contained 2 auto-generated bindings for SOAP1.1 and SOAP1.2. The Endpoint URL contained "t3" URL. Now the question is, if the aim of direct binding was to avoid to conversion into XML, as with WebService binding, then, why is the deployed directWsdl contains SOAP 1.1 and SOAP1.2 bindings ?
Any pointers to some theoretical books / resources will help !
    Thanks !

Direct binding avoids intermediate conversion to XML because an XML Object on client side does not need to be serialized as XML, sent over HTTP(or other transports), deserialized at server and converted to XMLObject again. Client will directly invoke the server side method using RMI and passing the XML object as the input (may be via the direct binding API) this should probably save some processing. But keep in mind that it is not the only reason to use Direct Binding. See the documentation on Direct Binding to identify other benefits or use cases where direct binding may be a good idea.

  • Add Qualification" free enhancement in Performance Appraisals

    Hi all
I trying to activate the "Add Qualification" free enhancement in Performance Appraisals.
    Can anyone tell me:
    1. Can I use this enhancement only in the VB level?
    2. How to define correctly the "Refers to Attributes of"
    3. How can I set up that the scale will be according to the scale maintained in the Qualification (Q)?
    Tx a lot
    Maya

    Hello,
You have within PM the possibility to extend the appraisal document with additional elements based on flexible criteria (for example employee, country assignment etc.). The added elements can be appraisal objects (VB/VC) or external objects (D, Q, etc).
These added elements need to be defined in a way that the appraisal application understands it. If we take the Q object, it has no configuration that describes how to be used in an appraisal environment.
Thats where the reference objects come in place. These objects tells the appraisal application how to behave in case of added new elements. A reference element is a VB or VC and has the same settings as a VB or VC you add fixed in a template configuration.
So here you can then say, if you add one or more Q's to teh document then all these Q's use the settings of the reference object (and will use for example only FAPP with scale YHM as per column config on ref. object).
If you have a fix or free enhancement then atleast one reference object needs to exist. however multiple reference objects are allowed, in the implementation of the fix/free enhancement you can then program which element is to be used when.
in the config, double clicking on the entry after 'Refers to Attributes of' will navigate you to the reference object configuration.
Hope this clarifies the concept of reference objects.

  • What is the best practice to replicate the change of an object name in HANA AT/AN view where there are dependent views in it?

    Dear All HANA Studio Experts,
I'm using SAP HANA Studio Version: 1.0.68 in our current landscape and looking for a expert and intelligent solution for a problem that we have encountered recently.
We have created multiple AT views, AN views and created CA views on top of these AN views to cater different LOB related to our organization. We have also designed BO universe on top of the CA views from HANA and finally created webi reports out of these universes.
In a particular scenario, we have one AT view which is been used by 10 different AN views.
Now we had 3 Requirements like below:
    1. To add a new field in this AT view,
    2. To update an existing field in this AT view and
    3. To remove a field from this AT view which is not required anymore.
    Problems Encountered:
Req 1. When we added a new field (e.g. XX_ADD) in the AT view and activate it, its throwing warning that there are dependent objects on this AT view. However no error thrown and it leads to re-work to check if this new field is available in all those dependent views and re-deployed those all.
Question: How to ensure if this addition of object will not impact the rest of the dependent views?
Req 2. When we updated an existing field (e.g. XX_UPDATE_NEW) in the AT view and activate it, its throwing warning that there are dependent objects on this AT view. However the BO reports built on top of these different dependent AN views became inoperative.
Question: How to ensure if we need to update the name of an existing object it will not impact the rest of the dependent AN views?
Req 3. Finally we have removed one object from the existing fields as it is not required. Again we faced warnings that there are dependent AN views on this AT view.
Question: How to ensure if we need to delete an existing object, it will automatically reflect in all dependent AN views?
Please suggest, if it is a good practice to create separate AT,AN and CA views for each of the LOB's and avoiding any dependent views (hence gradually the total no. of logical objects will be increase) or to reuse the AT/AN views whenever possible and in case of any updation/deletion we need to do a huge rework to check and redeploy the dependent objects again and again?
Thanks for reading this detailed explanation and please let me know in case you need any other inputs....don't hesitate to share your expert thoughts on this.

Are you using Development or Modeller Prespective?

    1) Adding a new Field in the AT View and after activating the view. Then you have to Refresh/Check out the dependent views to see if it is reflecting.
    2)  We cannot update the existing field in the AT view i.e like name change if it is being already used in joins in any of the dependent views. It will not allow you to activate
    3) To remove the field which is not being used any where, we can make the changes in AT View and Refresh/Check out to see if the dependent views are reflecting the change

  • Changes to existing Reports,Dictionary objects when we migrate DataBase to SAP HANA

    Hi Experts,
Can you please let me know the changes that effect to existing ABAP Dictionary objects, Reports, MPP etc... that we build by using ABAP if we migrate our underlying database to SAP HANA from any RDBMS.
                           Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sandeep Rajanala

    Dear Sandeep Rajanala,
In general the existing ABAP code(reports, classes, module pool programs, function modules etc) runs on SAP HANA as before and the existing dictionary objects like tables, views, DDIC types and structures continues to exist and work as before after migration.
However if the existing ABAP Code relies on the technical specifics of the old database , ABAP Code changes might be necessary(which is the case for any database migration ).
    For example,
Your ABAP code uses a feature that is specific to the old database and not in the SQL standard and therefore not in Open SQL(consumed via Native SQL using EXEC SQL or ADBC interface)
You have ABAP code that relies on unspecified undocumented implementation behaviour of the old database
the above cases may need minor code changes in ABAP during HANA migration inorder to ensure that your ABAP Code runs with functional correctness after migration.
The SAP note 1785057 gives guidelines on migrating the existing ABAP Custom Code for HANA.
Additionally we have several code inspector checks to find the ABAP code that requires changes and you can find details about these check in SAP note 1912445.
In addition you can find an elaborate guide for transitioning custom ABAP code to HANA here which has a dedicated section on required and recommended adaptations during custom code migration.
You can also find the recording of the SAP Teched 2013  hands on session which focuses completely on ABAP Custom Code migration aspects for HANA here
Hope this answers your question and gives you some pointers on how you could prepare your ABAP for migrating to HANA.
Please revert back if you have further questions.
    Best Regards
    Sundar.

  • Object level authorization for SLT Configuration schema in HANA DB

    Hi All,
We have connected SLT with HANA DB (& ECC as source system).
Now for certain users we wanted to restrict the access for certain tables ( tables owned by SLT Schema, i.e schema created in HANA DB with the configuration name provided in the SLT configuration).
With the SYSTEM user object level authorization's of another schema is not possible hence , an error is thrown when we are trying to provide/control the access of single table for a user.
Is it ok that we generate a password for SLT schema and try login with schema owner. Is it the best practice or Is there any other way around.

    Hi Santosh,
You can find more info about SLT Roles and Authorization from below security guide.

  • Regarding HANA concept clarification

    hi
I have two questions from TZHANA materials. Need more understanding about HANA
pls let me know if you have more details on this
    1) regarding EDW and LSA Architecture.
For certain requirements, the role of the classical Reporting layer
(query optimized InfoCubes) might diminish. DataStore Object might
be able to provide sufficient query performance to omit InfoCubes.
So does this mean inmemory DSO will replace inmemory infocubes infuture?
pls can you give me reason why infocubes will be dropped and so reporting layer does not exist in LSA.
    When is this scenario possible?
2)I could not find more explaination about DB connect archicture in topic of consuming HANA models.
What does the Architecture picture says?
DB Connect driver is required for HBD case and not required for other than HDB case?
    Pls confirm
    Regards
    Magalingam

    Hi Vishal,
Well, I believe, one of the major differences between a normal DSO and an in-memory DSO is that a normal DSO would hold data and an in-memory DSO is just a view.
It seems that we are seeing a lot of statements like the above quote in this thread, but as far as I can tell this is simply not true. For DSOs that are configured as "in-memory" or "Hana optimized" in BW on Hana, there is certainly data stored in a materialized table. There are also views that are generated in many cases, specifically for the changelog. You can read about this here: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/32/5e81c7f25e44abb6053251c0c763f7/frameset.htm]
The same is true in the case of InfoCubes, where all SIDs and key figure values are written into a wide version of the fact table. That information is available here: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/e1/5282890fb846899182bc1136918459/frameset.htm]
Maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean by "just a view", but when I read this I normally think that there is no data held in a table associated with the object. This is not the case as far as I have learned.
    Cheers,
    Ethan

  • Can we import all BW object to SAP HANA ?

    Hi to all,
Can we import all BW object to SAP HANA.
Can I get relevant URL / PDF for same.
    Regards
    Pavneet Rana

    Hi Paveena,
There are diffent ways to achieve this and here is the info.
when you are importing the BW Cube it is Extended Star schema Structure hence the BW HANA Interface model can easily build in HANA Using Calculation View.
when it comes to other models there are some complexities hence still they not supporting.
Suppose if you go using Multi Provider it have limtations like we need to get Key Figure value only from One cube and it applies to the character as well.building this is bit complesx in HANA ( interface needs implement ) , hence SAP may not look in this are as they are looking more possibilities in other areas.
If you go for query it is more complexity to build such a model in HANA using the exception , conditions and rest.
Instead of importing models to HANA why can't use expose them directly when you are in BW Powered HANA.
    Regards
    Jagan

    I have 2 questions:
Relating to accepting Terms and Conditions:
If I click <Try Now> for solution SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP5 incl. SAP Business Objects BI 4.1 SP2 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP7
and scroll down Terms and Conditions, the button <I Accept> remains disabled.
Other solutions like SAP HANA, developer edition 1.0 Rev 80 I can accept.
I have to mention, that so far I have no CAL account
Is it possible to choose another Amazon Instance Type - instead of the default one (r3.8xlarge with 244 GB RAM)?
I don't need 244 GB RAM on my BW on HANA server.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Harald,
ad 1) I assume that this is caused by a browser bug. Which browser (IE8, FF31, Lynx, ...) are you using on which operating system (Windows 7, SUSE Linux, ...)? Have you tried another browser to narrow down the possible root causes?
ad 2) The 244Gb instance is not only hosting HANA but also the ABAP/BW portion. In order to have all the demo scenarios of the BW on HANA Trial working it is required that the HANA server has 244GB of memory available. With less than 244Gb the demo scenarios wouldn't work and then there would be users complaining ;-)

  • HANA - Address of Business Partner can not be updated by DI-API-Object

    Hello, everybody,
I do need help very urgent. My customer goes live with Business One HANA in two days and I got severe problems in importing master data by DI-API.
I managed to import all Business Partners. Now I would like to import the addresses by using the object oBusinessPartners and object Addresses.
When I test my code (vba) with SQL-Server everything is fine. All data are imported, no error-message. So the code has to be correct (it is not the first time, that I do such thing).
Using the code for HANA everything is fine only in the first step. That is to say, the objects got their correct values and I can update the Businesspartner without any error-message. The new address is created in the bp-masterdata.
The only thing is, that despite of the address-name all other data are not saved. The fields are simply empty.
Is there any difference between SQL-Server and HANA when using the di-api-objects?
I really do hope for fast and helpful answers.
Thank you very much in advance!!!
