Claris File Maker Pro file

I have a Macintosh Classis that I used at work a number of years ago. I started a file in File Maker Pro that I would like to access and use now. The Mac itself is running fine but I don't have another Mac to transfer the file to and I am not sure what software program would accept or open this file. I am considering clearing out all of the other files and use it just for the Claris program. If I do that I am lacking a printer. Does anyone know what model printer would hook up to a Mac Classic?

Apple has made various model of inkjet and laser printers throughout their history that would work via your Classic's printer port. The models I'm most familar with are the StyleWriter & LaserWriter models. It would also help to know which version of the Mac OS you plan to use on the Classic. Generally when dealing with such an old Mac I'd recommend System 6.0.8 if you have two MB of RAM or less (if the files on the hard drive are unfamiliar to you this may be a good chance to reformat the Classic & start over from scratch if you like having a fresh/clean start). If you have more than that I use Mac OS 7.1 on my Mac SE I upgraded to a Mac SE FDHD quite comfortably. Your Mac Classic comes with a Apple Sony 1.44 MB SuperDrive. I'd recommend downloading the files for your OS of choice onto a modern Mac that can get online more easily than your Classic. After that just transfer the compressed files to a external hard drive or Zip disk & hook that up to your Mac Classic's SCSI port. If you don't already have them installed you'll also need to download StuffIt Expander or MindExpander to expand the compressed files you'll download from Apple's Support Older Downloads site (if you choose System 6.0.8 that is). In addition you'll also need to use Disk Copy to make the floppy disks needed to install the OS. If the Classic's hard drive is either unformatted or the startup partition is corrupt you'll need to make the disks on the modern Mac you'll use to download the files. If that is the case that will be the easiest way to do things. I also recommend using your fastest/newest model of Mac to make these disks as they can create them faster than older models of Macs (if possible a 68040 based Mac like my LC 580 works great). If you choose to create Mac OS 7.1 disks I recommend converting the 800k and double-sided floppy images to 1.44 MB images. The reason being 1.44 MB floppies are much easier to find & Apple designed your Mac Classic to be used with them primarily too. You can even copy over the PC Exchange extension from a Mac OS 7.5.X install to be able to read PC/DOS formatted floppies (though it's only compatible with Mac OS 7.1 & the X in my statement means any numbered point release of Mac OS 7.5 such as Mac OS 7.5.5).

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

  • Compatibility with File Maker Pro

I am using File Maker Pro (v.7) to make a relationship database.  I am using container fields that have shortcuts to PDF files.  Unfortunately, I can not open those PDF files via File Maker Pro using Adobe Reader X.  Apparently there is a compatibility issue between the two softwares?  How can I remedy this issue and open my files?

Since Filemaker 7 was 2003-2005 (they're on 11 now), I'd have to imagine that the issue is the age of the software creating the PDFs and the compatibility with what is, essentially an Acrobat 6 document.
While newer versions (Acrobat 10 or Filemaker 11) can make backward compatible documents (readable by older versions of Reader) there is no "forward compatibility" feature.
If you visit oldversion.com, you can dowwnload previous versions of Adobe Reader, but that won't solve the bigger issue: that you're using nearly seven year old software with new software and they just don't work together.

  • Adding background to Acrobat DC file makes large file

Help! In the past (as recently as Acrobat XI) I have made mail-merged envelopes using Microsoft Word, then added a background PDF of the envelope in Acrobat. In December a file of about 2700 pages was only a few megabytes. Today I made a file of only 1705 pages worth of addresses, added a similar-sized envelope background, and the file is almost a terabyte! What's going on?

Then why -- when I do EXACTLY the same thing in either X or XI do I get a file that is only a few megabytes and works fine? In DC the same procedure produced a file that was almost a terabyte! Sorry, but something pretty basic has changed between XI and DC. Hope someone can pass this info to those who can do something.

  • How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?

I had somebody create a DVD for me using DVD Studio Pro. (This was a compilation of many different videos.) It turned out great.
I now want to make a DVD of one of those videos on my own using iDVD '08.
I have the raw video/audio files. But, my problem is the raw files that were used for the DVD Studio Pro project are separated into one video file and one audio file. I don't know how I can get them both into iDVD. I was told that I have to recombine these two files into one file. But, how do I do this and still maintain the best quality?
(I am not a video expert by any means, but I can tell you that the video file is a ".mpeg" and the audio file is an ".ac3". When looking at the .mpeg file in the finder it lists its Kind as "MPEG Movie" and when looking at the .ac3 file in the finder it lists its Kind as "Unix Executable File".)
(I'm using iDVD 7.0.1 - I do have Quicktime Pro - I do not have the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component - I do not have DVD Studio Pro)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Q: How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?
    A: You don't, essentially.
DVDSP is apple's top end app and it is intended to be used with FCP > Compressor > DVDSP. All of these are pro apps.
i-Apps are consumer apps all of which are QT based. With that in mind ....
now that doesn't mean you can't use FCP > iDvd. You can. But you have to do it in a way that iDvd will read all the files (meaning you must think in terms of QuickTime and export in this way). So when you export your QT File / Movie from FCP over to iDvd, it will look something like this hopefully regardless of the raw image & audio files you have already compiled which unfortunately will NOT work with i-Apps BUT will work with apple's pro apps which is the intended workflow / direction of said files in the first place.
Btw ... if your QT movie has chapter markers then please use the following settings so iDvd can read these markers. (if on the other hand you were looking to export this file to DVDSP; then you would choose DVDSP Markers.
Let me know if the above helps. If not, just come on back.

  • How to make DIR # = File # in SAP PLM ?

    Hi Friends,
Here is one scenario. I have a ProE file say ABC.prt. When I try to Check in through CAD VIEW, It wil generate DIR number as per the Doc Type. Is it possible to generate the DIR# equal to PROE File name, I mean DIR# ABC ?
I tried entering parameter DOCUMENTNUMBER and some name say ABC123 in the parameter of Proe file, modified the below in CDESK Configurations  in Document Data ( for attribute data, Determination type and Determination paramaters) for particular CAD System but still am not able to acheive the same.
         DESCRIPTION----
         File name with Extn.
         DOCUMENTNUMBER----
         File name without Extn
         WSAPPLICATION--       Constant--
    DES
Is this require a Zprogram to be developed or it can be possible in CDESK Settings only ?
I appriciate if someone can make me understand how actually I can achive DIR# = File #.

    Hi,
I am able to solve the above problem with the settingsmentioned in previous thread. Earlier, It was internal number range for that document type hence was generating internal numbers. Once I have selected external number range and given range as AAA-ZZZ , it fetched up the file name ABC from part to assign it to DIR.

  • How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?

My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
    Question:
How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?
    Help!!

    No.
You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

  • I can't figure out how to make a file permanently "un-hidden"

So this is the story.  My wife downloaded a virus that I couldn't fix on the PC.  I thought it was a good excuse to move to mac for good.  So I bought a Mac Pro and am running Lion.  The problem is that the virus made the music and movie files on my hard drive "Hidden Files"  I have been able to see them throught the help of the program "Houdini"  as well as the comand line instructions found in the forums.  But I haven't found a way to make the files on my external drive permanantly "visable".  Is there away in OSX 7.3 to do that?  I have looked and looked but found nothing online or in support forums.  Again I am just looking to make the files i the external USB drive visable.  I also want to add that I have two drives and that simply transfering them to the other drive by dragging the root "Music and Movies" folder didn't work.  They still show up on the new drive as being "Invisable"
Thanks for any insight anyone may have!

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 can't make pdf files in 2003 Word

    Hello, Can you help me?
I purchased Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro four years ago when I went onto Windows 7 as I needed the 64 bit version. Prior to this I had Adobe Acrobat 7.
Recently I have been unable to make PDF files in Word although it is working in all the other Word applications and through the HP scanner.
It also won’t make PDF files through the Adobe programme and comes up with the message “Missing PDF files”and the repair command fails to save the problem.
I am using Word 2003 but prior to now the programme has worked without a problem.
Can you tell me how to solve the problem as I need the facility as I manage numerous websites for different charities.
My serial number is 1118-1780-5717-0649-5947-1289 and I am reluctant to unload the programme incase I can’t reload it.
I have tried to load Acrobat 7 onto my laptop which still has Windows Vista on it.  The serial number for this is 1016-1284-2194-6099-0208-1387 but it refuses to activate this.  Can you advise me on this ?
    I am desperate..
    Many thanks, Sheila

  • Wrongly transformed the sentences of left and right paragraphs into one sentence in PDF files to txt files by Acrobat 9 Pro

I found that the when transforming PDF files into TXT files by Acrobat 9 Pro, the Acrobat will wrongly transform the sentences of the left hand side and right hand side paragraphs into one sentence, while the correct format should be the later sentence follows the former sentence in each paragraph.
An example PDF is : http://cardiovascres.oxfordjournals.org/content/cardiovascres/45/1/200.full.pdf
Is there any solution for this problem? Or should I use other software (or other version of Acrobat) to solve the problem? Thank you.

PDF is not a word processor file format.
It has no "styles", "format", "layout", "columns", "rows", "tables", etc.
PDF writers paint the content to the canvas that is the PDF page.
Depending on what was used and how it operates this painting can be like a paint by numbers affair.
ISO 32000-1:2008, the ISO standard for PDF explains it all.
So, when exporting to text from your PDF the progression is left to right, top down.
Remember, PDF has no awareness of "columns". What we see is our construct not PDF's.
What you and I see as two columns with a specific read order is our imposition.
What is on the PDF page is simply a line of text characters.
That is how it is with all versions of Acrobat. Applications can only make use of what the file format supports eh.
    What to do?
Master content in a logical hierarchy in the authoring file.
Always use the build-in Headings for Headings.
    Use the built-in "table" feature.
Use a PDF writer process that is compliant with the ISO standard and that supports proper output of Tagged PDF.
A well-formed Tagged PDF will export properly.
Two key design considerations for Tagged PDF are:
    (1)  Support Accessible PDF
    (2)  Support Export of PDF page content.
What constitutes a "well-formed tagged PDF?"
This would be a PDF that is ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant.
    Be well...

I recently purchased QuickTime 7 Pro to convert avi files to mov files for editing on Imovie. However, QuickTime won't play the files. How can I get them to play and how can I convert them to mov files?
Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.
