Clarity Slider disappeared in Camera Raw CS3

I'm working my way through Scott Kelby's 7-Point book and in lesson 7, I'm directed to adjust the clarity slider in Camera Raw but it's just not there! I see vibrance and saturation but no clarity. Can anyone help me find this baby? thanks so much for your help.

I installed the latest version of Camera Raw today, but still no clarity slider. In Kelbys book its shown in the screen capture as right above the vibrance slider, so I guess its made an appearance on his computer at least. Any other thoughts?

  • Can't Open .NEF Files In Camera Raw CS3 - Windows 7

    I have a Nikon D60, Windows 7 Professional (32bit) and  Web Premium CS3.
I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7.
I cannot get my Nikon's .NEF (Camera Raw) files to open when I select "Open in Camera Raw". I can see the .NEF thumbnails, but neither Photoshop or Bridge will open the files in Raw, you know where you can adjust all those killer settings non destructively.
I had cs3 installed on an XP machine and my .NEF files worked perfectly in Raw.  Not so in Windows 7. I have tried to update to Camera Raw 5.6 but that wouldn't install. Is there an earlier version of CR that I can get and use, or any other advice would help.
    Thanks

The last version of Camera Raw to work in Photoshop CS3 is version 4.6. If you HAD been able to open your D60 NEF files and now can not, then something changed...did you do a fresh install of CS3 under Win 7? If so you installed version 4.0 (what shipped with CS3). You'll need to go to the Camera Raw Updates for Windows and download an install version 4.6.

  • Can't open D90 NEF files in Camera Raw CS3?

I've downloaded the latest version of the plug-in, and it works perfectly when opening JPEGs. However it won't open my RAW files, it says they're not recognised?

Unless it is listed in the ACR 4.6 compatibility list (in which case there is some other issue), the D90 came out after CS3 was obsolete so Adobe did not update the obsolete Camera RAW plug-in and only added D90 support to the current ACR plugin which comes with CS4.
If you want to open D90 files in an older version of Photoshop you can download the latest DNG Converter from Adobe's website, which will recognize the RAW files, and convert the NEFs to DNGs and then open those DNG copies in CS3...or update to CS4 (or wait until Spring and update to CS5--just a guess since the LR3 beta expires 4/30/10).

  • Camera Raw CS3 - Download Practice Images

I'm reading through "Camera Raw with Adobe PS CS3" & trying to download the samples from realworldcameraraw.com using the login XXXX & password XXXXXX. However, each time I enter the login & password, press the enter key, the same window keeps popping up time after time, instead of accessing the download samples. Suggestions?
    Thanks!

Read again carefully the Download section of the preface and you will discover that you did use the wrong password. Since it is a password and only to use for the buyers of this book it is not nice to tell the correct entrance for the downloads on any internet forum in public :-)

  • Camera Raw 4.0 Fill Light Slider Not Working

    Hi,
Just installed Photoshop CS3, and I'm having an annoying problem.
When using Camera Raw 4.0, all the sliders work smootly except for the Filli Light slider. Its the only slider that is almost impossible to adjust via dragging the slider via my mouse. Of course, this is probably my most frequently used adjustment.
The Photoshop CS3 was a clean install, directly from the CD provided by Adobe.
There was never any Beta version installed.
Sure hope that you can help.
    Thanks,
    Ira

The Fill Light adjustment is the single most processor intensive of all the controls in Lightroom. When you first move the slider it causes Camera Raw to generate a large blur copy of the image and that takes a bit if time. During that initial bit if time, fill Light will NOT be as responsive as the other controls in Lightroom...it only takes a moment but if you are trying to make adjustments while CR is building the mask, you'll get jittery results. The key to using it is to move the adjustment off zero, pause a bit while the mask is being generated and then start fine tuning the adjustment. After that initial move off zero is done, it should be about as fast as most of the other controls-and no, you DON'T want CR to auto-generate the mask for every image by default, it would make Camera Raw much slower overall.

  • Mac computer: New Nikon d300s, CS3, and Camera Raw

I just purchased a Nikon d300s. I had a Nikon d50, Mac, iPhoto, CS3, and Camera Raw 4.6.0.30. With Nikon d50,  no problem opening an image from iPhoto into Camera Raw/CS3. With the new D300s, the image opens into CS3 but does not open into Camera Raw. Do I have to buy CS4?

No, you do not have to. You can alternatively use the DNG Converter, which will process your D300S NEF files into DNG files, which can then be opened in CR 4.6 in CS3. The latest version of the DNG Converter, which supports the D300S, is currently in Release Candidate phase and is available here:

  • How do I use camera raw?

    Hi,
I've only recently moved from PC to Mac and have been used to editing my raw Canon pics in camera raw before saving them down in Elements.
I've just tried to download Camera Raw and I think this has happened successfully (it shows up as a folder in the download section). However, I don't really know for sure! When I go to edit my raw pics (currently in iPhoto), it just opens them up straight away in Elements. This is annoying because I love the quick edit slider functionality in Camera Raw, so that I can rapidly edit for white balance/contrast/exposure etc.
How do I know if I've really downloaded it? And if I have downloaded it, is there something specific I need to do in order to install it?
    Thanks so much,
    Bek

Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. *But* iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • PSE 7 - CS4...no camera raw?

I have PSE 7 and just installed the trial version of CS4, when I use PSE7 to open a pentax k200d PEF raw image in CS4 I dont get the option to use camera raw, the conversion is done automaticly. When I open the same image in the PSE7 editor or directly in CS4, camera raw opens the way it should. Is there a setting somewhere to change this?
A friend of mine has PSE5 and CS3 and that combination works just fine (PSE5 -> Camera Raw -> CS3)
    /Sven

I don't know the exact knowledgebase atricle but this is a known issue.  I don't know if Adobe is going to correct this or not.  You'll have to use Bridge to process the RAW files.  Then import them into PSE when you are finished with any RAW updates.

  • Change preferences for Auto black/white point in Camera RAW

    Hey guys,
By hold shift and clicking on the slider for whites Camera RAW automatically sets the white point, same goes for the black. However, it always gets pushed to 255 (white).
Is there some way that you can edit this preference?

I don't know, but somebody may know for sure over in the camera raw forum:

  • Clarity slider in camera raw disappeared when I installed CS3 Bridge on my new mac laptop

I have recently installed CS3 bridge on to my new mac book pro and when I went into camera raw to edit photos, the clarity slider has dissappeard.
I had bridge intall on my previous laptop, the same one, and the clarity slider was there.
I have tryed up dates but they have made no differance.
    I'm running 2.0.0.975
    Thanks for any help!!
    Deb

That's an obsolete, super-buggy version of Bridge, but the clarity slider should not have disappeared, of course.
You should be at Bridge 2.1.1.9.
Try updating to Bridge 2.1.1.9 in the hope that the updater fixes your bad install, but if that doesn't do it, you're going to have to re-install from scratch.
Of course, your new MacBook Pro must have come with Mountain Lion 10.6.8, which so far has proven to be one Apple's worst OS offerings, and there so guarantee that CS3, even with its updates. will work well with new OS.
    Wish you good luck!

  • ? The Chromatic Aberration slider in Camera Raw V. 6.7 disappeared. How do I retrieve it?

The chromatic aberration slider in the Lens Correction panel in Camera Raw 6.7 (PS CS5) has disappeared. Must I re-download again, or?
If I do, should I uninstall what is on the computer now? I use a Mac. Robert C. Tanner

The CA corrections are now automatically applied using a checkbox, the sliders are gone (and won't be returning).

  • Clarity slider in cs3

I am working with cs3 in windows 7 x64 and cannot get the clarity slider in camera raw.  I do get it in my computer running the cs3 in vista x32?

You should update to the latest camera raw, which is 4.6 for cs3.
The easiest way is to use Help>Update from within photoshop or bridge.

I've downloaded the camera raw plugin version 4.1 because I'd like to take advantage of the clarity slider, but when I try to open it, photoshop gives me a message that the file type isn't recognized. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks ssprengel.  What threw me off was the capitalization of "Naff".  I thought it was the name of some software developer.
There are one or two for whom the name would sit all too well.  I think naff is used fairly universally in the UK.  My wife comes from oop north, (Cheshire) and I've had to learn a whole new language since meeting her.

I hope you are not in line for an incremental change of user name — it could get way too confusing.   I vote that you should be able to return to your original user name, which had a proud and distinctive sound to it.  Either that or sound like a baddy in the old Bonanza TV show.
