Class not found in jar

I have a servlet that is using request.forward() to invoke a class in a jar file.
This class is in the class path, as below. However, when that class runs, it cannot find other classes in that same jar file.
In my resin.conf file I have:
<web-app id='/test' app-dir='d:/apps/test'>
     <classpath id='d:/apps/otherApp/WEB-INF/lib/otherApp.jar'/>
</web-app>
The jar file is in the web-inf/lib folder.
Running under Resin.
What do I need to do such that the invoked class will find it's fellow classes that are in the same jar file?

I don't see why
you would need to add that jar to the conf file.My web-app cannot otherwise find the target class. It is part of a different 'web-app'.
how did you create the jar?I didn't. This is a third party app. I cannot disturb the jar.
Due to the third party app, there are legacy issues that I am having to work around.
So my situation is like this.
c:/apps/app1
c:/apps/app2
c:/apps/app3
So, another servlet will contact app1. Depending on the 'POST'ed data, app1 will invoke either app2 or app3.
All code for app2 is in jars in WEB-INF/lib.

  • Classes not found for jars listed in manifest

    I have an applet whose main jar has a number of dependent jars listed in the manifest. All the jars are signed.
    The applet works fine when downloaded from an HTTP server.
    Previous to 1.6.14 it would also run from a local directory.
    As of Java 1.6.15 and 1.6.16, the classes in the dependent jars are no longer loadable from the local directory. ClassDefNotFound is the reported on the java console. Obviously the class is present, as the application is running fine in JVMs 1.6.14 and previous.
    I see that 1.6.16 includes changes for the security baseline, but I cannot find anything that suggests changes are needed to support dependent jars. None of the dependent jars request a specific version of JRE.
    Anybody know what is going on?

    Is this the error? ...Yes, sorry, the exception is NoClassDefFoundError
    If you provide a Short, Self Contained, Correct Example someone may be able to diagnosis the problem, as opposeed to guessing. A link to the real live application can be found at: http://download.equitrac.com/38834/InstallGUI.html. (This original application does not meet the definition of short ... but demonstrates the problem well.)
    When run as an applet off this site, it works fine.
    If you click on the download button, it will place a copy on your local harddrive. To execute it locally double click on your local copy of InstallGUI.html.
    When running it locally with Java 1.6.15 and 1.6.16 it will give you a class def not found exception without doing any thing.
    When running locally with Java 1.6.14, it will not experience any trouble.
    This applet needs permissions to open sockets and store data on the harddrive.
    Probably due to the presence of class files that once existed outside of the jars, but are now not thereClose ... the application is made up of a main jar (our product) and a number of third party jars. The manifest for the main jar properly references the other jars, and works in all JVMs before 1.6.15. As of 1.6.15, none of the classes from the referenced jars can be opened.
    I found that I can work around the problem by placing all classes into a single jar ... which may infringe on licensing requirements for some of the third party jars we use.

  • Taglib: class not found in jar-file

    I've got the following problem:
    I whant to deploy a taglib to tomcat 5.0.25.
    If I point to the jsp which uses the taglib I got the following error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to read TLD "META-INF/taglib.tld" from JAR file "file:/C:/Programme/Apache Software Foundation/Tomcat 5.0/webapps/taglibtest/WEB-INF/lib/gsa_prod3_db_taglib.jar": org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Failed to load or instantiate TagExtraInfo class: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI
    If I copy the taglib.tld out of the jar-file into WEB-INF and do the mapping in web.xml, I get this error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Failed to load or instantiate TagExtraInfo class: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI
    root cause
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI
    It seems like none of the files in the jar-file could be loaded.
    Has anybody an idea?
    Help would be very appreceated!
    Greetings, Jonas

    1 - double check the class is in the jar file, in that path, and is spelt correctly
    2 - restart Tomcat
    3 - check the contents of the tld file - particularly the extra-info tag and class name for it.

  • Class not found in applet using 2 jar files

    I have an applet which has been working for years as a stand alone or connecting directly to a derby database on my home server. I have just changed it to connect to MySQL on my ISP server via AJAX and PHP.
    I am now getting a class not found error in my browser, probably because I'm stuffing up the class path.
    The HTML I am using to call the applet is:
    <applet code="AMJApp.class"
    codebase="http://www.interactived.com/JMTalpha"
    archive="AMJ014.jar,plugin.jar"
    width="500"height="500"
    MAYSCRIPT style="border-width:0;"
    name="jsap" id="jsap"></applet>The AMJ014.jar contains the applet and supporting class files.
    The error message is strange to me because it refers to a class I noticed on another web page but which has nothing to do with my applet. Anyway, the message in full is:

  • Class not found: C:\Orcl\OracleXSU\lib\xmlparser.jar;

    Hi,
    I am testing out the XML functionality within Oracle 8i. I
    downloaded XML SQL Utilities, modified the .bat files and run
    it. The env.bat file ran fine, however, the oraclexmlsql.bat
    file keeps giving me the message error:

    Class not found: C:\Orcl\OracleXSU\lib\xmlparser.jar;"
    I added the xmlparser.jar in the classpath already.
    I am running Oracle 8i, JDK 1.1.8 on NT 4.0 Server Machine. I
    would appreciate any help I can get on this.

    Hi Minh,
    It could be because of case-sensitvity. Looks like your
    directory is C:\ORCL\OracleXSU\lib whereas the error message
    indicates C:\Orcl\... Please check that. (i.e. set the path to
    C:\ORCL\ in the bat file and execute the bat file).
    Also please check the xmlparser.jar file is indeed present in
    the directory shown in the error message.
    Also in the command line window in which you are running the XML
    SQL, please verify the CLASSPATH settings by printing out the
    CLASSPATH. e.g. set %CLASSPATH%.
    Thx

  • "Java Class not found in classpath" Error in DESIGNER

    Hello All,
    I'm trying to connect in Designer using a JDBC connection to MS SQL Server 2008.  As per the instructions, I updated my jdbc.sbo file with the path to the existing two JAR files.  However, I still get the following error when I try and connect in Designer:  "Java Class not found in classpath : C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\dataAccess\connectionServer\jdbc\Drivers\sqlsrv".  Of course, this error includes the drive path with the location to my JAR files.  Any help in resolving this nagging issue is very GREATLY appreciated.  Also, if anyone needs it I can post a copy of the jdbc.sbo file to this thread.
    Thank you,
    Pankaj

    Stratos,
    Your suggestion didn't help.  I tried to connect after restarting my machine and I still get the error.  And, I've also tried adding a connection to MS SQL Server 2005 using this JDBC driver, and that didn't help either.  Any other suggestions?  Would it help to see my "jdbc.sbo" file?  Thanks again for your and everyone else's help, and I look forward to your reply.

  • Problem deploying connector: META-INF/ejb-jar.xml not found in jar file

              Has anyone seen this problem:
              I built Sun's Blackbox implementation and packaged
              it identical to the BlackBoxNoTx.rar included with
              Weblogic's 'jconnector' sample (even using the same
              ra.xml and weblogic-ra.xml). When I try to deploy
              it, the server reports:
              java.io.FileNotFoundException:
              META-INF/ejb-jar.xml not found in jar file
              I have no idea why the server thinks my connector
              is an EJB. If I deploy the BlackBoxNoTx.rar included
              with the sample, everything works without a hitch.
              The only variable that I'm changing in my BlackBoxNoTx.rar
              is that I build the Blackbox classes myself--otherwise,
              the RAR packagings are identical. Any assistance is
              greatly appreciated since I'm banging my head against
              a wall...
              Thanks,
              -jason

              I was finally able to resolve this one. On the odd chance that someone else encounters
              the same problem, here's what went wrong:
              My RAR file had two directories: 'META-INF' and 'meta-inf'. The first was created
              by the jar tool and contained the manifest.mf file. The second I created manually
              and it contained my ra.xml and weblogic-ra.xml. When I examined the RAR using
              any tools or I extracted the contents, it looked like it only contained one directory:
              META-INF (because NT is case-insensitive).

    Have you restarted servers after putting jar in $Domain_Home/lib directory? Also try after explicitly adding this jar in classpath by editing server startup script (startManagedWeblogic.cmd or .sh) or in domain env setting script (setDonainEnv.cmd or .sh) and restarting the servers.

XMLGregorianCalendarImpl XMLGenTime = new XMLGregorianCalendarImpl(gentime);
    Kindly help me to solve this problem.
    Thanks,
    Kubra

    I have found the solution.
    The problem is solved by adding jaxp_api_1.3 jar and jaxp-ri-1.4.1.jar.we have to have both these jar in PI 7.0 to use com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.datatype.XMLGregorianCalendarImpl package
    Thanks

  • Error in beanshell - class not found in namespace

    We use beanshell to evaluate business rule validations on our application. Below is the calling method...
    private Object callBeanShell(final Object parameters, final String expression)
    throws EvalError {
    if (LogConstants.FINE_ENABLED) {
    logger.log(Level.FINE, "Expression: " + expression);
    beanShell.set("params", parameters);
    Object result = null;
    try {
    result = beanShell.eval(expression);
    } catch (Throwable ex) {
    getErrorHandler().fatalError("Expression: " + expression, ex);
    if (LogConstants.INFO_ENABLED) {
    logger.log(Level.INFO, "Expression: " + expression);
    logger.log(Level.INFO, "Result : " + (result == null ? "null" : result.toString()));
    return result;
    This has been working fine on the application for years, but we've suddenly started getting a problem with evaluations which are called from a SessionBean (via some reflection).
    Every time we try and call a certain set of expressions they fail on a 'class xxx not found in namespace'. This happens both when the expression contains code like:
    com.chubb.euz.SomeClass sc = new com.chubb.euz.SomeClass(); etc...
    or
    import com.chubb.euz.SomeClass; SomeClass sc = new SomeClass(); etc...
    The strange thing is that when I remote debug it & look at the bsh Interpreter what I see is that it's NameSpace object has a table called ImportedClasses on it which before the eval() call contains just bsh.Interpreter and bsh.EvalError but after the eval() it then contains all of the classes I pull in as imports in the expression passed to it, yet it still manages to throw this damn 'class not found in namespace' error!
    It still works whenever else it's called in the app (and this is only happening in our DEV environment). All I can think of now is that it's possibly something to do with the Thread that the beanshell is running on at this time, but that's just a guess as I know bugger all about Threads... I only think this because I can get the thing to work by stopping the processor which was built to run Events (EJB) generated in the app; resetting the Event's Task (regular class) to run again; then restarting the processor (not an option if this goes into PROD with the release!!!)
    Unfortunately, re-factoring the validations we need to run at this point is not really an option, as this is all coming at the tail end of a new release & the amount of code changes & subsequent regression testing required would kill us.
    This is on weblogic 8.1 - with the beanshell jar just embedded in the main application ear (I ran it with bsh.20b4.jar instead of the 1.3 version we were using but that has no effect).
    Any ideas would be more than gratefully appreciated as this is doing my head in!!!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I am trying to reverse SAP tables. Initially the Reversal process stuck at Set MetaData step. I stopped the session and restarted it then Set MetaData completed successfully but Set FlexFields give the error.
    Any idea?

  • Class Not Found Exception - applet won't run anywhere outside of IDE

    I have an applet that runs perfectly in the netbeans IDE, but won't run from command prompt (I'm using windows) or from a browser. I've been banging my head against the wall for a few days on this one. Here's the HTML I'm using:
    <applet width="400" height="525" code="musicapplet.class" archive="crypticgraffiti.jar">
    <param name="bgcolor" value="ffffff"> <param name="fontcolor" value="000000">
    </param> </param> Your browser is not Java enabled. </applet>
    Here is the structure of the jar file's contents:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    com/
    com/crypticgraffiti/
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/musicapplet
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/GetNotes.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/InstList.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/Mode.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/MusicCreator.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/OctaveTransformer.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/Phrase.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet$playerThread.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet.class
    (Musicapplet.class is the main class)
    When I attempt to run from command prompt, I get:
    "Error: Could not find or load main class crypticgraffiti.MusicApplet"
    When I attempt to load via html:
    "basic: load: class musicapplet.class not found.
    load: class musicapplet.class not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: musicapplet.class

         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: musicapplet.class
    security: Accessing keys and certificate in Mozilla user profile: null"
    I have tried every possible variation for the 'code' element of the applet tag (package.mainclass.class, mainclass, mainclass.class, etc). I have also tried compiling with JDK 1.6 and this didn't change anything. I've tried clearing out the cache of temporary files using the java control panel settings, and have verified that my browser can run other applets using JRE 6 and 7.
    I've tried some different ways of distributing the applet, also: putting all the class files in the folder with the html file, putting the classes in a source folder in the same folder as the html file, and finally putting a jar in the same folder as the html file (which really seems the simplest).
    Any help at all would be most appreciated! This applet is a very cool and original music creating app that draws heavily on the JFugue API. It's a shame that I can't get it online for people to play with!

    Please note that class names are case sensitive so "MusicApplet" is not same as "Musicapplet" or "musicapplet". Your applet tag should have fully qualified class name (without quotes) and should look like this:
    <applet width=400 height=525 code=musicapplet.MusicApplet archive="crypticgraffiti.jar">
    </applet>
    The JAR should be in the same directory as your HTML file. While launching from command line, you can also check if your JAR file is getting included in classpath.

    Hi Mark,
    I have seen your two posts and there are something you need to notice:
    Where the ClassNotFound exception you got? From deployment tool or
    application server kjs process?
    Of course, you need not to add supporting classes to each ejb jars or ears.
    1. If you use deployment tool to package your application, I'm sure you'll
    fail to resovle your classes without supporting classes added to jars.
    Please select Edit->Preference,in Classpath entry, enter the supporting
    classes(packaged to jar files) location. This should work.
    2. After deploy to ias, please edit the registry using kregedit which you
    described in your posts.

    When I deploy EJBs to the iPlanet app server I find that I need to include
    all supporting classes in each ejb jar file. According to the
    Administrator's manual I should be able to modify the kjs classpath bydoing
    the following:
    On Windows
    a.. Open iPlanet Registry Editor.
    (See About iPlanet Registry Editor)
    b.. Open the following key:
    SOFTWARE\iPlanet\Application Server\6.0\Java\
    c.. Modify the class path and restart the server for the change to take
    effect.
    However, when I add my supporting classes to a jar in this directory Istill
    get a class not found exception when I run the deployment tool.
    Adding the classes to each EJB jar is redundant and introduces lots of
    problems. How should I configure iPlanet so I only need to put my
    supporting classes in one place?
    Thanks,
    Mark
