Classes in programming

Where can I find a reference (preferably web) that includes descriptions of the classes in the Java class library -- descriptions of each class's instance variables, methods, constructors, etc.?

  • Could not find main class. Program will now exit. *SIGH*.....

    At first I thought it was just my own programs that I created with netbeans that had this problem; however, even the demo programs under the sdk folder give me this problem when i try to run them. Virtual Machine Loader will just come up with pop up saying "Could not find the main class. Program will not exit"
    I am a fairly competent programmer, not new to java. But I am new to guis in java, and using netbeans to create them. The program I am creating gives me this error with javaw and with java it will tell me NoClassDef for grouplayout. I checked the manifest file it looks alright:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.7.0
    Created-By: 10.0-b19 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    Main-Class: desktopapplication2.DesktopApplication2
    Class-Path: lib/appframework-1.0.3.jar lib/swing-worker-1.1.jar lib/swing-layout-1.0.1.jar lib/ant-swing.jar lib/SwingSet2.jar lib/swing-layout-1.0.3.jar
    X-COMMENT: Main-Class will be added automatically by build
    }(brackets not included)
    I am sort of lost.... Do I need to install ant separately?
    I feel like there may be some classpath issues?
    I have java 1.6 update 4 and netbeans 6.0
    I am completely lost I have been working on fixing this for the past 2 or 3 days now, and reading up all the information.
    Note: This is just a standard desktop application.
    Also I just thought of something. If I have install the development kit do I also need to install the framework or whatever for 6.0 separately? Meaning installing the latest version of jvm. Sorry if this isn't clear i forgot what it is called.
    Sorry if this sounds like a beginner question or something, but I am going crazy. If i am having this much trouble running my own program i really hope distributing files won't be this much of a nightmare....

    Please become familar with resources at the NetBeans site. There are tutorials and FAQs that cover usage of NB, and how to do things like you're asking.

  • Could not find the main class : HelloWorldApp program will exit

    please help me
    i downloaded and installed jdk-6u13-windows-i586-p(1) from sun.java.com

    You have to specify the manifest with a special option (I think its was -M)
    Otherwise the jar will create one (even if you provide it)No, the text file passed as a parameter will be incorporated in the manifest file generated by the JAR tool.
    @OP: This will work:
    JarTest.java
    public class JarTest {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("JarTest works!");
    }manifest.txt
    Main-Class: JarTest+(note there is an extra new line in the manifest.txt!)+
    Now execute these commands:
    javac JarTest.java
    jar cfm MyJar.jar manifest.txt JarTest.class
    java -jar MyJar.jar And on my machine, the string "JarTest works!" is displayed on the screen.
    And if you look in the MANIFEST.MF file inside your jar file (you can use almost any zip-utility for this), you will see the following:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Created-By: 1.6.0_0 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    Main-Class: JarTestOr something similar.

  • Could not find the main class. Program will exit!

    I have created many Executable Jar files before, and this one I did the same. When I run the jar file, (Clicking on it) I get the "Could not find the main class. Program will exit!" error message. When I run the jar file through DOS I get this Stack trace:

    Any Ideas? I did a search on google, and looks like others have had this problem but found no answer.

    There could be several reasons for getting this "Could not find main class" error message. From your stack trace it looks like the class javax/media/ControllerListener is not in your class path. Make sure your manifest file has a line like this:
    Class-Path: pathToTheJarFileWithControllerListenerClass.jar otherJars.jar
    This error message is also generated whenever any static initialization errors out giving the misleading error message implying that there is something wrong with the main class. Prior to starting your main class, static initialization of any static variables takes place. In my case, I was initializing a resource bundle, and forgot to include the property file in my building of the jar file. Well this failed of course and the generic error message appeared. It took many long hours to figure out it didn't have anything to do with the manifest file or the main class itself.

  • "Cannot find the main Class. Program will exit."

    Hi, I created a program, and I am trying to distribute it to other people in my office. I tried using both NetBeans 6.8/6.9 and eclipse. I exported to a single jar file. When I run this single .jar file, it runs perfectly. I sent it to one of my coworkers, and the message "Cannot find the main Class. Program will exit." popped up. I then had IT update his Java to 6.20 and it worked. The problem is that this program must be distributed to over 100 people, and I cannot have them each update their Java individually, nor will IT update everyone's on their own. They all have Java 4.XX I believe. Is there any way around this error that only happens on older versions of java? I have checked my manifest file and what not, as I said it runs on computers with Java 6.

    a) Ensure the code does not use functionality introduced in later versions, e.g. assertions, generics, for-each loops.. Using the [cross-compilation options of javac|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/javac.html#crosscomp-options] will warn of those.
    b) Ensure the code does not use any classes, attributes or methods that were not available in the earlier version, then use the cross-compilation options of javac when compiling. Actually the second will alert of the first, so long as the -bootclasspath parameter is used with an appropriate rt.jar.I believe that everything is ok, unless some of the swing functions cannot be used in 1.4. Besides the swing functions (which I am not sure about) everything should be able to be used in 1.4

    I have a jar which contins the class Main.class.
    Following details are specified in the Manifest file.

    Main-Class: Main
    However, when I double click the jar file, I get the error...

    What could be wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    hi,
    i've got exactly the same problem: double clicking the archive ends with an error (can't find the main class) but working with the command line executes the file!??!
    does anyone know a solution?

  • Abap Class or program

    Dear Experts,
    I am using BI 7 and BEx query.
    I need to process data before it is presented in a BEx Excel report.
    I would like to find out which Abap class or program from SAP I can use for this purpose.
    I remember for web reports, there is an Abap class that can be used but not sure what the counterpart is for BEx.
    regards
    M Russo

    Hi,,
    You can change data by using BADI "RSR_OLAP_BADI ", which is actually used for virtual characteristics and Keyfigure.
    But you can use that for your purpose as well.

    The manifest file is missing from the project.

    I am asking this because I haven't got that much experience in Java and this is the first time I hear about a manifest file.
    Does anyone have any Ideea how I add a manifest file to a project with Eclipse SDK? I searched the menus and I didn't find anithing of such sort... o
    Does Eclipse have support for editing manifest files at all?

    i wouldn't report a nullpointer to sun unless you're fairly confident there's some sort of bug. if main() can't be found it sounds to me like a config issue. if nullpointer, sounds like a code issue. post the code if you want, but i don't think sun will help you debug this.

  • Difference between Class Pool program and Interface Pool program

    Both Class Pool program and an Interface Pool program indicate that the program contains interfaces that other programs can use globally. What exactly is the difference between them?

    Transparent Table :
    Exists with the same structure both in dictionary as well as in database exactly with the same data and fields.
    " Pooled Table :
    Pooled tables are logical tables that must be assigned to a table pool when they are defined. Pooled tables are used to store control data. Several pooled tables can be cominied in a table pool. The data of these pooled tables are then sorted in a common table in the database.
    " Cluster Table :
    Cluster tables are logical tables that must be assigned to a table cluster when they are defined. Cluster tables can be used to strore control data. They can also be used to store temporary data or texts, such as documentation.
    " what is the major difference between Standard tables, Pooled tables and
    " Clusterd Tables?
    A transparent table is a table that stores data directly. You can read these tables directly on the database from outside SAP with for instance an SQL statement.
    Transparent table is a one to one relation table i.e. when you create one transparent table then exactly same table will create in data base and if is basically used to store transaction data.
    A clustered and a pooled table cannot be read from outside SAP because certain data are clustered and pooled in one field.
    One of the possible reasons is for instance that their content can be variable in length and build up. Database manipulations in Abap are limited as well.
    But pool and cluster table is a many to one relationship table. This means many pool table store in a database table which is know as table pool.
    All the pool table stored table in table pool does not need to have any foreign key relationship but in the case of cluster table it is must. And pool and cluster table is basically use to store application data.
    Table pool can contain 10 to 1000 small pool table which has 10 to 100 records. But cluster table can contain very big but few (1 to 10) cluster table.
    For pool and cluster table you can create secondary index and you can use select distinct, group for pool and cluster table. You can use native SQL statement for pool and cluster table.
    A structure is a table without data. It is only filled by program logic at the moment it is needed starting from tables.
    A view is a way of looking at the contents of tables. It only contains the combination of the tables at the basis and the way the data needs to be represented. You actually call directly upon the underlying tables.
    . Transparent tables (BKPF, VBAK, VBAP, KNA1, COEP)
    Allows secondary indexes (SE11->Display Table->Indexes)
    Can be buffered (SE11->Display Table->technical settings) Heavily updated tables should not be buffered.
    II. Pool Tables (match codes, look up tables)
    Should be accessed via primary key or
    Should be buffered (SE11->Display Table->technical settings)
    No secondary indexes
    Select * is Ok because all columns retrieved anyway
    III. Cluster Tables (BSEG,BSEC)
    Should be accessed via primary key - very fast retrieval otherwise very slow
    No secondary indexes
    Select * is Ok because all columns retrieved anyway.
    Performing an operation on multiple rows is more efficient than single row operations.
    Therefore you still want to select into an internal table.
    If many rows are being selected into the internal table,
    you might still like to retrieve specific columns to cut down on the memory required.
    Statistical SQL functions (SUM, AVG, MIN, MAX, etc) not supported
    Can not be buffered
    IV. Buffered Tables (includes both Transparent & Pool Tables)
    While buffering database tables in program memory (SELECT into internal table) is generally a good idea for performance,
    it is not always necessary.
    Some tables are already buffered in memory.
    These are mostly configuration tables.
    If a table is already buffered, then a select statement against it is very fast.
    To determine if a table is buffered, choose the 'technical settings' soft button from the data dictionary
    display of a table (SE12). Pool tables should all be buffered.

  • Need HELP with objects and classes problem (program compiles)

    Alright guys, it is a homework problem but I have definitely put in the work. I believe I have everything right except for the toString method in my Line class. The program compiles and runs but I am not getting the right outcome and I am missing parts. I will post my problems after the code. I will post the assignment (sorry, its long) also. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. It is due on Monday so I am strapped for time.
    Assignment:
    -There are two ways to uniquely determine a line represented by the equation y=ax+b, where a is the slope and b is the yIntercept.
    a)two diffrent points
    b)a point and a slope
    !!!write a program that consists of three classes:
    1)Point class: all data MUST be private
    a)MUST contain the following methods:
    a1)public Point(double x, double y)
    a2)public double x ()
    a3public double y ()
    a4)public String toString () : that returns the point in the format "(x,y)"
    2)Line class: all data MUST be private
    b)MUST contain the following methods:
    b1)public Line (Point point1, Point point2)
    b2)public Line (Point point1, double slope)
    b3)public String toString() : that returns the a text description for the line is y=ax+b format
    3)Point2Line class
    c1)reads the coordinates of a point and a slope and displays the line equation
    c2)reads the coordinates of another point (if the same points, prompt the user to change points) and displays the line equation
    ***I will worry about the user input later, right now I am using set coordinates
    What is expected when the program is ran: example
    please input x coordinate of the 1st point: 5
    please input y coordinate of the 1st point: -4
    please input slope: -2
    the equation of the 1st line is: y = -2.0x+6.0
    please input x coordinate of the 2nd point: 5
    please input y coordinate of the 2nd point: -4
    it needs to be a diffrent point from (5.0,-4.0)
    please input x coordinate of the 2nd point: -1
    please input y coordinate of the 2nd point: 2
    the equation of the 2nd line is: y = -1.0x +1.0

              Point x = new Point(10, 7);
              Line l = new Line(p, x);
              System.out.println(l.toString());
    }My problems:
    I dont have the right outcome due to I don't know how to set up the toString in the Line class.
    I don't know where to put if statements for if the points are the same and you need to prompt the user to put in a different 2nd point
    I don't know where to put in if statements for the special cases such as if the line the user puts in is a horizontal or vertical line (such as x=4.7 or y=3.4)

    Sorry guys, I was just trying to be thorough with the assignment. Its not that if the number is valid, its that you cannot put in the same coordinated twice.
    public class Line
         private double x = 0;
         private double y = 0;
         private double m = 0;
         private double x2 = 0;
         private double y2 = 0;
         public Line()
         public Line (Point point1, Point point2)
              this.x = point1.getX();
              this.y = point1.getY();
              this.x2 = point2.getX();
              this.y2 = point2.getY();
              this.m = slope(point1, point2);
         public Line (Point point1, double slope)
              this.x = point1.getX();
              this.y = point1.getY();
         public double slope(Point point1, Point point2)//finds slope
              double m1 = (point1.getY() - point2.getY())/(point1.getX() - point2.getX());
              return m1;
         public String toString()
              double temp = this.x- this.x2;
              return this.y + " = " +temp + "" + "(" + this.m + ")" + " " + "+ " + this.y2;
              //y-y1=m(x-x1)
    public class Point2Line
         public static void main(String[]args)
              Point p = new Point(3, -3);
              Point x = new Point(10, 7);
              Line l = new Line(p, x);
              System.out.println(l.toString());
    }The problem is in these lines of code.
    public double slope(Point point1, Point point2) //if this method finds the slope than how would i use the the two coordinates plus "m1" to
              double m1 = (point1.getY() - point2.getY())/(point1.getX() - point2.getX());
              return m1;
         public String toString()
              double temp = this.x- this.x2;
              return this.y + " = " +temp + "" + "(" + this.m + ")" + " " + "+ " + this.y2;
              //y-y1=m(x-x1)
         }if slope method finds the slope than how would i use the the two coordinates + "m1" to create a the line in toString?

  • Java Class Mapping Program in BPM process

    I have a scenario where I'm receiving an IDOC I then use a JAVA mapping program in my first transformation step.  Immediately following I have a switch step but there is not data in from the mapping program.
    1) Receive Step
    2) Transformation IDOC to Table using Java class
    3) Switch step based on Table field value
    Problem is there is no values in the table.
    This java class was not developed within NetWeaver but was used in our old process. We simply imported the jar file for accessing our existing java classes.  Is there something else we need to do to utilize our java modules within the BPM process?

    Hi,
    You must to have in the java class:
    - You java have to be like:
    import java.io.InputStream;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    import java.util.Map;
    import java.util.HashMap;
    import com.sap.aii.mapping.api. AbstractTrace;
    import com.sap.aii.mapping.api.StreamTransformation;
    import com.sap.aii.mapping.api.StreamTransformationConstants;
    public class JavaMapping implements StreamTransformation {
       private Map           param = null;
       private AbstractTrace  trace = null;
       public void setParameter (Map param) {
          this.param = param;
          if (param == null) {
             this.param = new HashMap();
       public void execute(InputStream in, OutputStream out) {
    try {
             trace = (AbstractTrace)param.get(
                       StreamTransformationConstants.MAPPING_TRACE );
             trace.addInfo(‘...’);
             String receiverName = (String)param.get(
                       StreamTransformationConstants.RECEIVER_NAME);
    The method execute take the InputStream with the XML source. The out (OutputStream) have to be an XML like the IDOC structure.
    Regards.

  • How to get abapName property of model classes in program

    Hi, all.
      i'm using NW2004s SP10 WDJ.
      As you know, when we import the models(aRFC model) into NWDS, we
    can see abapName(which indicates BAPI or RFM name), defaultScope,
    isExecutable... properties from property view of each model node.
      How can i get this abapName property in program? i tried to get these values
    using ICMIModelClass or related ones, but i couldn't find the above value.
      Best Regards.
      Sejoon

    Sejoon,
    What is your task?
    I understand that you want to get ABAP name from Java name but for what? RFC? Structure? Field?
    Actually, all Java names are mangled from ABAP names, so sometimes it's possible to restore them back via simple algorithm. Sometimes, but not always -- names like /A/B is valid in ABAP, but after they are transformed into AB in Java there is more then one way to convert them back, i.e. process in unpredictable.
    Btw, for field/structure name you may try com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.api.WDUtil class.
