Classic and a 03 iMac

I My 17 G4 1GHz 2003 iMac Refuses to install or boot any version of OS9 or 10.0-10.2. It will boot fine into Panther to Leopard10.5.8. Is this a firmware issue or is it incapable of booting into classic. I have done some looking and apparently this model should boot fine.

Thank you, I was curious because it originally shipped with 10.2.3 and i remember using classic before my ram chip died. (long story short, the internal ram went bust and i wiped it and now it wont boot using the original disks or os 9)

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • How can I run Classic on my new Imac 10.4.7?

I've recently had to buy a new computer which is fantastic, however all my work (I work as a freelance designer) runs on classic and I cant open any of them. Is there something I can download that will open classic for me? Is it possible to download OS 9 to run on my Imac?

    Hi, cardsculptor -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
If your iMac is a brand new one, it has an Intel processor. None of the Intel processor Macs are supported by Apple for Classic, which is why it is not included as an installable item from the original disk set that came with the machine.
There is a 3rd-party emulator program, SheepShaver, which is designed to work with OS 9.0.4 or earlier in order to provide OS 9/Classic capability on Intel-based machines. It may or may not work for your purposes.

  • Classic and aol mail

    Dear All,
This is the tip of an iceberg: I was surfing and had an interesting crash. More later on Monday.
    Short question:
Is it my newbie fault? The website? My little olde classic blueberry?
    All the best,
    Irene

    Hi Irene!
How is "Classic and aol mail" involved in this
    issue?
    ali b
    Dear Ali B (Borat?...lol),
Thanks for the reply. More iceberg:
The odd crash occurred when I had:
    1. Had itunes on
    2. Had AIM on
    3. Had Netscape on
    This is what I did:
    1. Checked mail status from my AIM, it whistles
    2. Click on link of my email at AOL
    3. Netscape page opens to blah blah blah and
    http://classic.webmail.aol.com
    4. Click on that link
    5. Do mail stuff...so far so good, everything copacetic.
However, this is what I did next:
I clicked on the AOL.com icon at the top of the page to see what I might still be able to see on the AOL site. During that brief foray (I don't remember precisely which page I was looking at, but it may have simply been the home page)
    1. My cursor froze
    2. I pressed the green power button for it to restart (and repair
    3. (I didn't watch the restart)
    4. When I went back to my computer, it looked restarted.
    5. However the cursor didn't move, so I pressed green again and watched it restart (no repairing).
Now, I'm back to answering emails. AIM up, no itunes yet, not trying to repeat my crash and wait patiently for any more help.
    All the best,
    Irene

  • PowerMac G4 OSX10.4 with no classic and other problems.

    Hi,
I know quite a bit about mac’s but am really awful with tech language so any ‘dumbed down’ responses would be greatly appreciated!!
I bought a 2nd hand power mac sometime last year. It is a G4 400mhz (AGP) with 764mb ram (year 2000). I have recently installed OSX 10.4 on it and I have a couple of predicaments.
I have bought a yamaha mw10 which comes with music software Cubase LE. The Yamaha MW10 only requires 300mhz processor, but the Cubase requires 450mhz. The weird thing is, the cubase works on my mac but not the mw10?!
I am going to upgrade my processor and hope that this will fix it. I have seen the sonnet encore 1.6ghz and will probably go for that.
However, As this was a 2nd hand mac, I have found there is no ‘classic’ on it. (I did a search with the term ‘classic’ and there were no folders. Should I search using os9 instead?) Reading the specs for the sonnet processor, you need to have os9.2 in order to run the correct firmware to make the processor compatible with the mac.
I do have access to an install cd of Os9.1 (which I would then update through the apple site to 9.2), but it comes from my dad’s imac g3 computer. Does this matter and would it work? If not, where can I purchase an install disk for 0s 9? (I live in the uk).
Thank you very much for your time and help with this matter!

Whether or not this solves your problem, depends on your firmware version.
To verify which revision of firmware your system is running, open the Apple System Profiler from under the Apple Menu. The last drop down tab is “Production Information”, and the second item listed is the Boot ROM Version. Your system must be $004.28f1 or later to install the CPU upgrade.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60351
For your Power Macintosh AGP Graphics to use the FastMac or OWC 7455 processor CPU upgrade (or most others), you must upgrade it’s firmware to version 4.2.8. This cannot be performed using Mac OS X, you must boot into Mac OS 9 to upgrade the firmware. For firmware updates, please refer to this Apple document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120068
One note, the 7455 processors will give you better performance (generally speaking) than faster 7447 processors of a higher speed.

  • Need help with Classic and OS 9.

I have searched on this issue and while I found a lot of posts I am still unsure what to do.
I just purchased some software that says it can be used on OS 8, 9 or X.
I have a G5 iMac running 10.4.3 and my wife has a G4 iBook running 10.3.9. Neither of us have ever used anything that has needed Classic before.
When we try to install the software we get a message that says:
"Classic cannot find a Mac OS 9 system folder on the startup disk to use."
I am confued that I get this message since the software package says OS X.
I assume this means that I need to install classic on our machines. Since she has Panther I believe there is Classic on her start-up disks but I have no idea how to use them or where to start. Some of the things I read says that I need to uninstall Panther or Tiger to install Classic.
For me (using Tiger) I don't think I have Classic on my disks. Can I use her disks to load Classic on my machine? Also, in looking at some Apple documents I found something called Software Restore.dmg that I downloaded to my machine but again, I don't know what to do with it. Does this contain Classic?
I have an external drive attached to my network via Ethernet and mounted on our desktops. I can't boot from it but can I load Classic onto that drive and just run it like an application?
Does classic take up a lot of space on the hard drive?
As you may have guessed, I am not that familiar with how to handle this and would appreciate any and all direction. If I have left out any critical information please let me know and I will post additional info. as needed.
    Thanks.
    David

    Joe:
Thanks for the prompt reply. In looking at my install Disc 2 I found that I could install the OS 9 package and I got the software to run. Thanks.
    As it turns out, all the software that I purchased did was install a bunch of Word and Excel templates onto my computer via Classic. I don't actually need the application any longer to use these templates going forward so my next question is;
How do I uninstall OS9 from my computer?
It appears I have several new folders in my Mac HD in Finder. They are:
    Application (Mac OS9)
    Desktop Folder (this is empty)
System Folder (the contents are about Classic and Classic Support etc.)
Would I just drag them to the trash to uninstall OS9? Are there any preference files I should delete?
Or am I best to just leave this in my system for possible future use? Having recently converted from Windows I am still of the mindset that I need to get off anything I don't really need or use.
    Thanks again,
    David

I recently connected my new ipad to my itunes, but now itunes will not recognise my ipod classic, and 50gig of music has gone. ipad connects ok but no longer ipod which has been there for two years! help!!!

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

  • Question regarding Classic and Advance table

    Hi,
I have classic and advance table. I am populating with VO that brings 100 record. When i render page i see last record being displayed. How can i show my first record by defult on both tables?

By default the first record will be displayed, if you are seeing the last one instead, you probably did a vo.last() in the code.
    Thanks

I have given up on my dell and bought an iMac 27"... Now how do I transfer my dell iTunes playlists from my dell to my iMac, as they are showing on the iMac when I plug in my iPod but it's not allowing to me to play them as they are shaded? I have also separately transferred all my music via my external drive from my dell to my iMac which is showing in iTunes but won't upload to my iPod... Just to confuse you even more my AppleTV which is linked to my log in email address and home sharing is showing and playing all the playlists I want to see on my iMac... Phew that was exhausting hope you understand and can help me:-)

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

  • I may have deleted some system files from my computer due to my antivirus and now my imac won't start. Actually it does, and then there is a blank screeen with the apple logo and it shuts down right away. is tehre a possibility of recovering my files?

    Hello
I was having some problems with my Imac, for a while it was slow and often disconneceted from my wifi, while this one worked perfectly (tested with other devices)
I thoug i might have a virus, so i downloaded an antivirus (mac keeper) and started checking.
I also did a scan of my computer using Console or something from the utilities, and then a folder popped witha  file I had canceled a while ago. I canceled the file and then my Imac continued to be slow.
i then restarted my Imac, but when it started, the usual grey logo of Apple appeared, and then it shut down suddently.
I tried to reboot it holding the command key and R but nothing, and then i tried holding the shift key and a bar appeared, and at half of the bar it sut itself down again.
I think it is probably a preoblem because I may have cancelled some of the system files from a folder called "private" in the "documents" folder.
Is there any way I can recover some of my files? maybe all of them? I hope so because I have some important files there
Is this a thing I can do myself or do Ineed to go to a MacStore to repair it? Will I need to change HD or just to format it and reinstall? also if there is any way i can recover some of my files that would be great.
    Thanks
    Ludo
P.S. problems appeared when i installed the Mavericks version.

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • Can I use home sharing for AppleTV with Time Capsule and have my iMac powered off?

I wish to be able to use AppleTV without having my iMac powered on.  Is there a way to have my iTunes library on my Time Capsule so I can use AppleTV directly from it?

I use an external hard drive with my iMac and have an iTunes folder there (that sometimes it points to automatically, but sometimes I have to go under advanced and show the iMac to use that iTunes folder because it defaults to the internal iTunes folder on the computer).
Make sure the external drive is powered on and mounted on the desktop before launching iTunes.
