Classic and aol mail

Dear All,
This is the tip of an iceberg: I was surfing and had an interesting crash. More later on Monday.
Short question:
Is it my newbie fault? The website? My little olde classic blueberry?
All the best,
Irene

Hi Irene!
How is "Classic and aol mail" involved in this
issue?

Dear Ali B (Borat?...lol),
Thanks for the reply. More iceberg:
The odd crash occurred when I had:
1. Had itunes on
2. Had AIM on
3. Had Netscape on
This is what I did:
1. Checked mail status from my AIM, it whistles
2. Click on link of my email at AOL
3. Netscape page opens to blah blah blah and
http://classic.webmail.aol.com
4. Click on that link
5. Do mail stuff...so far so good, everything copacetic.
However, this is what I did next:
I clicked on the AOL.com icon at the top of the page to see what I might still be able to see on the AOL site. During that brief foray (I don't remember precisely which page I was looking at, but it may have simply been the home page)
1. My cursor froze
2. I pressed the green power button for it to restart (and repair
3. (I didn't watch the restart)
4. When I went back to my computer, it looked restarted.
5. However the cursor didn't move, so I pressed green again and watched it restart (no repairing).
Now, I'm back to answering emails. AIM up, no itunes yet, not trying to repeat my crash and wait patiently for any more help.
All the best,
Irene

  • Yahoo Classic and Windows Mail

Hello,   I am new to this board and NOT a techie, hence my enquiry.
In 2009 I changed PC's and had xferred contents of XP to current Vista including Outlook Express.
A couple of months ago I noticed OE had vanished and replaced by Windows Mail.  Fine except address book was missing from WM.   In the last few days I note Windows LIVE mail is also active, but without address book being xferreed.
In general I only used OE in order to xfer mail to Document file since I could not establish how to drag mail from  Yahoo classic to documents.     Am I able to xfer address book from yahoo to windows mail.
    Many thanks

Open Windows Mail, go to File, Import, Windows Contacts and you should be able to transfer your e-mail contacts and settings. However, it SHOULD have happened automatically !
One thing I'm puzzled about - you should never have been able to use Outlook Express with Vista, as neither it nor Windows 7 have ever supported Outlook Express ( most users are still cursing Microsoft's decision to ditch Outlook Express ).
    Good Luck

    Re: facebook

    3. Type in my email address and password
    4. The Facebook opens up but when I write something on fb and hit "share." Nothing happens

  • I have a iMac destop 10.6.2 and use the AOL Mail web site with your Firefox Browser. It has worked great for years. I update the firefox to 6.1 and now I cannot send images using the Firefox browser. With Safari browser it works fine.

I use AOL mail - http://www.aol.com/ with my Firefox 6.1 browser. Before updating aol mail worked great with firefox for years. Now when I try to send ( upload) messages with a file or images I always get the reading " there was a technical problem and I should try again". Messages with NO files or images go through just fine. I have cleared the Firefox history, the cache and cookies and the problem remained the same. The question is does this problem have something to do with the latest update ? AOL are still only familar with the 3.6 Firefox versions. Thanks

Well I guess I was too optimistic. Since last posting I have had three hang events, one during reboot. When the login dialog box came up I clicked on it and it hung.
However I do have a new data point. I have enabled the remote login (sshd). I have discovered that when the system hangs like I described above, I can still log in via SSH from my Windows system. The shell appears normal, but when I tried a "killall Safari" command the OS crashed hard. After a hard reset, the system hung during the login process. Again I could login remotely, and that time I executed a "sudo reboot" via the remote session. That cleared the display to all-blue but did not successfully reboot.
Can anyone suggest what to try via the remote login to help diagnose what is happening? I am familiar with typical Linux architecture but the differences in Mac OS X are leaving me a bit disoriented.

  • I have seen all the early responses to how to fix AOL mail issues on Iphones, however no mater how many smpt servers I set up or on .... I can not get AOL mail to send from my Iphone 5, running IOS 6.  I have an Iphone 4 running IOS6 and it works fine...

I can not get the Iphone 5 to send out aol mail.  I have added the extra smtp server as suggested and it still will not send mail.

I am having the same problem. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I called apple restored my phone to its original and it did not work :-( Now it seems like it worked for a bit than stopped again. Now I have to contact Apple again to set up an appointment at an Apple store because it may be an issue with my phone. I have only had it for a week and half!

  • Weird problem-w/ aol mail,i can recieve and reply, but can not send new mail

everything is set up, i read the instructions on that site to help me set it up, im recieving mail, and i can even reply, but when i try to send new mail it rejects the smtp. outgoing mail server...any suggestions?

Does resetting include deleting and recreating the AOL SMTP server?
Deleting an SMTP server requires selecting Edit Server List from the SMTP server selection pop-up menu.
ISP is short for Internet Service Provider. Are you using AOL as your ISP for connecting to the internet?
Unless AOL is used as your ISP, your ISP may have made recent changes regarding the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network. Most, if not all ISPs have restrictions regarding the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Using Port 587 usually resolves any such restrictions but some ISPs block the use of all SMTP servers outside of their network regardless. These restriction are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent or reduce spam eminating from the ISP's domain.
Since you have switched back and forth between every option available, I suggest deleting and recreating AOL's SMTP server first (if you haven't already done so) and if this didn't work, deleting and recreating this AOL account in Mail.
If neither works and AOL is not your ISP used for connecting to the internet and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your AOL account.
If this works, I would contact your ISP's technical support to inquire about any recent changes implemented regarding the use of SMTP servers outside of their network or put in another way, using an SMTP server that is not provided by your ISP.
The last resort is targeting the Mail.app preference file which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences.
I try to avoid saying never in regards to computers but I doubt your hard drive replacement has anything to do with this.

  • AOL mail and mail

I have used aol mail for 15 years, and tried to use mail in OSX , but I got the message that my mail server was not correct for OSX mail. My wife wants to. Keep aol mail, so I would like to be able to switch back. And forth?  How do I change the settings?

I have no idea what AOL Cheshire is but the only way you can access an AOL account with an email client such as the Mail.app is via an IMAP account.
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/
The default settings when creating an IMAP account with Mail include storing Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server. An IMAP account's Inbox mailbox is stored on the server by default which cannot be turned off but you can change the settings for Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences to store these message categories locally on the hard drive instead of on the server.
With the Mail.app, each account's Inbox mailbox is located under inbox regardless the account type so this is normal.
If you change storing Drafts on the hard drive instead of on the server, the account's Drafts mailbox will be located under Drafts in the mailboxes drawer but will not be created automatically by Mail when doing so until you compose a message with the account or save a newly composed message as a Draft.
The same applies to Sent, Trash and Junk.
You can't delete the server stored Voicemail mailbox that is created automatically by AOL nor the other server stored mailboxes created automatically by AOL under your AOL account's icon in the mailboxes drawer.

  • How can I click on an e-mail link and have it automatically start my aol mail?

When I click on an e-mail link on Firefox, it will not open my aol mail to compose a letter. I cannot find, on Options - Applications - mailto, where I can point to aol mail.
    Can someone help?

AOL doesn't appear in the actions dropdown for mailto. HOWEVER, I have solved the problem by this manner:
I went to Control Panel - Programs - Default Program - Set Program access & computer defaults - Custom - Choose a default e-mail program - AOL.
When I did that, BAM! - I went to Firefox, clicked on the e-mail address, and it instantly put the e-mail address into AOL on an outgoing e-mail ready for me to use.
    Thank you for responding. Don

  • I am having problems with small text size on AOL mail, and am using the latest version of Firefox.

I am having problems with text size when using AOL Mail. I am using version 25.0 of Firefox. I did not have this problem in the past, but I suspect a change occurred with one of the Firefox upgrades. I do not have the same problem when using Internet Explorer.

Could you start by resetting the zoom level on the page? To do that, you can either:
    * Press Ctrl+0 (that's a zero) on the keyboard
    * View menu > Zoom > Reset
You also can use zoom to increase/decrease the size from there. This article describes the various mouse, keyboard, and menu methods: [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages]].
    Any luck?

Any idea why my aol mail account all of a sudden is sending random messages without my knowledge and I get back many many "mail as undeliverable"messages?

  • Conflict between MAIL and AOL - cannot send! same port?

I just spent an hour on the phone with a very nice Apple tech and it turns out that the reason I cannot send mail (I can, intermittently) on my Mac mail application is that it conflicts (he believes) with aol, i.e. perhaps they are sharing the same port.
The error message says mail cannot be delivered on Port 25 - but when I sign out of aol, mail works!
Is there a way to adjust the port aol uses, or make some other change with aol so I can have both app's open at the same time?

I don't use the aol browser, but I do like to sign on directly
to check my "other" (i.e. aol) email, use the address book, etc.
Apple provides what is called the AOL Service Assistant which will transfer (from the AOL program) your AOL email account or accounts to the Mail application, AOL address book contacts to the Address Book application and I believe it will also transfer AOL bookmarks to Safari so you can dump using what is a VERY old program for OS X which I doubt AOL will provide another update for.
I have no idea if it is possible to change the port used by the AOL program and I'm not even sure if the AOL program uses an SMTP server for sending messages with an AOL account.

  • Why are my AOL mail and AIM icons suddenly missing?

Why are my AOL mail and AIM icons suddenly missing. I can still access both by passing my mouse over the area previously occupied by the icons

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.
If these don't work try Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
