Classic and iCab

Dear Angels,
This is a repost of my topic from imac CRT:
Taking baby steps now, I have two working browsers. One is iCab and the other is IE. I am on iCab now. With the help of a reply to my previous topic, this is my problem:
1. When I click on iCab's preferences/identity this is what I have:
iCab 5.0
netscape 4.79
microsoft i.e. 5.5
opera
2. From the same advice:
pick Safari or Firefox. Both these browsers support the latest standards. I'd pick IE for windows but iCab lists an old Version of IE for windows. If you can find the application string for the latest IE for XP, I'd suggest that.
I still would like to rescue Netscape 7.02 and I'm undecided about Mozilla. However, the biggest lesson I've learned from revisiting this wonderful site is to post separate topics, listen to advice and do NOTHING until I get instructions.
Thanks in advance and All the best,
Irene

Just to confirm, you lost your Netscape bookmarks?
And you tried installing Mozilla?
Assuming the answer to both of the above questions is 'yes', and assuming you want to get Netscape back before considering Mozilla, I would suggest that maybe you need to remove Mozilla (I think Mozilla may be derivative of Netscape and therefore maybe they conflict a little?) in order to get Netscape back running. I would do a search for Mozilla and carefully delete everything that shows up as Mozilla. Then do a search for Netscape, and similarly carefully delete everything that shows up as Netscape. Then, reinstall Netscape.
If you do have Netscape bookmarks you wish to preserve, I would locate those Netscape bookmarks in the place BB refers to on the other thread (please make a note of it), and put them safe on your desktop. Re-install Netscape, then replace the new bookmarks file (which will be empty) with your existing one, that you put on your desktop. Just to be extra safe, you could also put your existing Netscape preferences on to your desktop alongside the bookmarks you already put there, before deleting everything else and reinstalling. Although, I don't think you will need your existing preferences (I am thinking that they could link to the bookmarks in some way but they probably won't), and you should be able to safely trash them, after your new installation of Netscape and your bookmarks functionality is confirmed.
Don't forget to reinstall Flash and Shockwave and any other nonsense your browser needs.
I do hope I am not insulting your intelligence in any way here, Irene. You probably know your way around a computer better than I do!

ps No offense taken if you don't take my advice, Irene. I am a kind of fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants Mac aficionado, and as such the above is just what I would try in the absence of any other suggestions... aside from the ever angelic B B's of course.

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

  • Question regarding Classic and Advance table

    Hi,
I have classic and advance table. I am populating with VO that brings 100 record. When i render page i see last record being displayed. How can i show my first record by defult on both tables?

By default the first record will be displayed, if you are seeing the last one instead, you probably did a vo.last() in the code.
    Thanks

  • HT1657 I rented a movie to add onto my ipod classic and when I moved it to my ipod it is no longer there and it is no longer in my purchased section on my itunes.

I recently rented a movie to add on my ipod classic and it wasn't transferring when I would sync so I manually move it to my ipod but when I go on my ipod it is not there and it is no longer in my purchases on itunes.  help!

Is this on your computer or on iPad/iPhone ? If you are on an iPad or iPhone then it should have downloaded into the Videos app - iTunes on those devices is just the iTunes store, and if you just see the Ts & Cs link on the Downloads tab then that means that there are no outstanding downloads waiting.

  • IPod Classic and Audiobooks (Audible, not MP3)

Just curious...has anyone else noticed (and been annoyed by) the fact that Audible audiobooks are no longer accessible anywhere except the "Audiobook" menu?
This bothers for one rather large reason...I ahve a rather large number of Audible audiobooks, and rather than scroll through Every. Single. One, I enjoyed scanning the authors and titles via the "Genre" menu. This capability, sadly, seems to have vanished from the Classic, and I assume the new Nanos as well.
Other than making specific playlists for certain authors, anyone found a way to force the new interface to play nice with these and not separate them from the rest of your music?

I agree there's a problem and I sure hope that Apple fixes it in the next firmware update for the Classic iPod.
I have used every version of iPod (not nanos or whatever just iPods) and this one has definitely broken audiobook organization. On every previous model I simply went to "artists" and selected the name of the author and then had a nice list of the books (using the "album" attribute for book title) and then I could select the part of the book that I wanted to dive into which I could title using the song title attribute. I never ever found the straight audiobook listing particularly useful.
Now I've got to use the amusing "search" mechanism or spend a bunch of time screwing around with playlists to try and put some order in the chaos that some misguided engineers have introduced.
I can not for the life of me understand how the current audiobook category behavior ever got signed off on by QC and usability studies. The iPod Classic as it stands now is almost exclusively a music box rather than what I used to have which was a library of books. I do have music on my iPod but I rarely ever listen to it; rather, I spend hours each evening and in the early hours listening to various books some in audible.com format some that I've converted myself from CD or cassettes and so on
This is without a doubt the most completely non-user-engineered downgrade to an otherwise sterling product line that I've ever seen.

I have an ipod classic and just had to replace my laptop.  When I purchase music, while it downloads to my laptop, it no longer syncs to my ipod.  Any ideas?

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

I wiped my ipod classic and then my computer crashed, so i no longer have the songs i purchsed from itunes on my ipod or computer! I have a new computer now with itunes installed, can I get the songs purchased previously from itunes somehow?

    Yes, you can!(:
    STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
Hope this helped! Enjoy your music!(:

  • IPod Classic and iTunes 10.5.x

I've been monitoring the iPod Classic forums for over a month now, trying to get a feeling of whether to upgrade my Windows 7 system to the latest iTunes (10.5.x). I'm interested in the update for the security fixes, but have been wary ever since iTunes 9.
I'm impressed with the folks that answer here, and have attempted to summarize my observations regarding the common questions in this post in my journal. The impression I'm getting, at least from the support questions and answers, is that iTunes 10.5 is iffy. I'm seeing lots of questions where iTunes (apparently 10.5) seemingly hangs in the middle of a large transfer (usually due to an interaction with the anti-virus software), and ends up corrupting the filesystem on the iPod Classic, requiring a restore and a retransfer of all files. Further (especially a concern for folks like me with over 26,000 songs), that transfer needs to be done in small chunks.
So, my question to the experts on this forum (turingtest, planb77, bilbo_cheshire, and all the other good folks here) is: Is my impression correct? If I have no need to use the cloud (which doesn't work with the iPod Classic) and if iTunes 10.4 is working fine, don't f---  with it.
Secondly, does anyone know if Apple is aware of these interactions, and is it likely to be fixed in a future version. My fear, of course, is that the iPod Classic is a dead iPod classic playing, and there won't be Apple support for a device with the large storage capacities.
