Is there any definitive view yet on whether the Intel version of OSX runs Classic?

I make my living using Apple software called Quicktime Virtual Reality Authoring Studio. It has not been upgraded in years yet it's still the best pano stitching software available on any platform, and it only runs in Classic. No other software even comes close to QTVRAS in terms of speed, workflow, and ease. I will lose money if I can't run this software for MANY years into the future. If Apple would simply update their own software to run in the newer OS I would buy it all over again.
I wonder if there's a chance that somebody will write a work-around software so that OS 9 apps can run on the new Macs? Otherwise the iMac I bought last month might have to last me 10 or 15 years.

External hard drive for both a PPC and Intel Mac?

I have 2 LaCie Hard Drives (500GB & 750GB) that I'd like to use for backing up my 2 laptops and for storing photo and music files.
When I got the MacBook Pro, I partitioned the 500GB drive into 3 volumes and used SuperDuper! to make "bootable" copies of the MBP on one volume, theiBook on one volume, and put photo files on the third. I don't know/can't remember how I dealt with the directions below from Disk Utility and I fear I may have done the impossible or at least done the wrong thing.
"If you will use a volume as a Mac OS X startup disk, click Options and choose the appropriate partition scheme. To use a volume to start up an Intel-based Mac, choose the GUID partition scheme. To use a volume to start up a PowerPC-based Mac, choose the Apple partition scheme."
As I ask these questions, I find myself getting tongue-tied so please bear with me and read on...
#1 - Is it *even possible* to do what I want and have the bootable copies of both of these laptops on the same HD since one is PPC and the other Intel? If the answer if yes, it's OK then the rest of this is moot.
#2 - I can easily delete one or the other laptop backup from the 500 LaCie and put it on the virgin 750 and partiton it - problem is, is there a way to know how I partitioned the 500 HD so I won't have to redo it -I don't want to have to recopy the thousands of photo files already on the HD. If I knew how it was partitioned - Intel or PPC - I could just delete the appropriate laptop and move it to the other LaCie, assuming I have to.
#3 - And, is it possible to use a drive that has been partitioned for PPC or Intel with the other type computer - will I be able to access the jpg photo files from both the MBP and my G4 both of which are Tiger no matter which way the HD is partitioned? Now I as able to do this, but as I said, I don't remember which way I partitioned the HD - all I remember is that I did choose to include OS 9 drivers since I still use Classic and OS 9 on the G4. ( I have yet another LaCie that I use exclusively to back up my G4 and it is not part of this issue)

Select the existing drive in the Disk Utility and find the Partition Map Scheme text at the bottom of the window.

Why is 50GB of music gone? All music should exist on the computer. Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

Question regarding Classic and Advance table

I have classic and advance table. I am populating with VO that brings 100 record. When i render page i see last record being displayed. How can i show my first record by defult on both tables?

By default the first record will be displayed, if you are seeing the last one instead, you probably did a vo.last() in the code.

Apple Releases Security Update 2006-004 (PowerPC and Intel)

Apple has released Security Update 2006-004 for Mac OS X in both PowerPC and Intel versions. This update requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 for either PowerPC or Intel, Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Mac OS X 10.3.9 Server.
This is the fourth major standalone security update for Mac OS X released this year.
Update procedure recommendation First, avoid performing any other operations (in Mac OS X or third-party applications) while the update process is occurring. In addition, before installing this security update, make sure all Apple-installed applications and utilities are in their original locations. Moving one of these applications to a different location on your hard drive can lead to an incomplete update. Also, disconnect any FireWire/USB devices before applying the update (except for your startup drive, if it is FireWire or USB, and your keyboard/mouse), then re-connect the devices one by one (checking for issues created by any particular device) after the update process is complete and the system has restarted.
Enhancements in this release
Of most interest to general end-users:
a fix that prevents maliciously crafted Zip archives from causing condition where arbitrary code can be execute. In other words, prior to Security Update 2006-004 you could download a specially crafted file ending in .zip from a Web site or other location, and it could trigger the execution of malicious code.
a fix that disallows maliciously crafted Canon RAW images from creating a buffer overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. Prior to Security Update 2006-004, you could download or otherwise receive a Canon RAW file that could allow execution of malicious code on your system.
similar to the above, a fix that prevents maliciously crafted GIF images from causing an integer overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution.
new download validation that will catch certain HTML files defined by Safari as "safe" that may actually contain malicious JavaScript code. After applying Security Update 2006-004, these files will not be automatically opened.
Protection against maliciously crafted HTML documents that can also open the door for arbitrary code execution by accessing deallocated objects.

An issue in the AFP server allows search results to include files and folders for which the user performing the search has no access. This may lead to information disclosure if the names themselves are sensitive information. If the permissions of the items allow it, the contents may also be accessible. This update addresses the issue in Mac OS X v10.3.9 by ensuring that search results only include items for which the user is authorized. The AFP server contains an integer overflow that can be triggered by an authenticated user. This update addresses the issue by protecting the reconnect keys with appropriate file system permissions. This issue only affects Mac OS X Server. An unchecked error condition exists in the AFP server that may lead to a crash. By carefully crafting an invalid AFP request, an attacker may be able to trigger this condition and cause a denial of service. Bom
An issue in Bom's compression state handling may cause heap corruption. By carefully crafting a corrupt Zip archive and persuading a victim to open it, an attacker may be able to trigger this condition which could lead to an application crash or arbitrary code execution. Note that Safari will automatically open archives when "Open `safe' files after downloading" is enabled. This update addresses the issue by properly handling such malformed Zip archives. DHCP
A stack buffer overflow exists in bootpd's request processing. Malicious local system users may specify dynamic linker options that cause output to standard error. This output contains informational content and potentially user-specified content. Several issues in the fetchmail utility were discovered. The most serious issue could lead to arbitrary code execution when fetching mail from a malicious POP3 mail server. All issues are described at the fetchmail website (fetchmail.berlios.de). This update addresses the issues by updating fetchmail to version 6.3.4. A race condition may allow a malicious local user to modify the permissions of files owned by another user executing gunzip. This issue is only exploitable when executing gunzip on files in directories that are modifiable by other users. This update addresses the issue by properly handling files while decompressing. A directory traversal vulnerability is present in the command line utility gunzip when it is used with the non-default "-N" option. By carefully crafting a malicious compressed file and persuading a user to open it with "gunzip -N", an attacker may replace or create arbitrary files with the privileges of the victim. I can reboot and it will work, but if I put my macbook to sleep it, when I wake it, it will do the same thing again.
I am also getting timeouts waiting for results of 1st wireless scan to complete in console.

Hi, I bought 2 songs off itunes. I have synced my classic and shuffle with no problems. The new songs show ok in my libary but when i view my iphone 5 in itunes these songs appear greyed out with a ring of dots to the left and will not sync to my iphone?

I would like to share music with my Dad we both have ipod classics and i tunes installed, my library is backed up on hard drive helives abroad and we are visiting soon how do we share library content? Can I do it by plugging my hard drive into his pc?

System Preferences - Sharing. If you cannot find System Preferences, then use Command - Spacebar and type System Preference and when you see it in Spotlight (uper right) hit return.

Is this on your computer or on iPad/iPhone ? If you are on an iPad or iPhone then it should have downloaded into the Videos app - iTunes on those devices is just the iTunes store, and if you just see the Ts & Cs link on the Downloads tab then that means that there are no outstanding downloads waiting.

IPod Classic and Audiobooks (Audible, not MP3)

Just curious...has anyone else noticed (and been annoyed by) the fact that Audible audiobooks are no longer accessible anywhere except the "Audiobook" menu?
This bothers for one rather large reason...I ahve a rather large number of Audible audiobooks, and rather than scroll through Every. Single. One, I enjoyed scanning the authors and titles via the "Genre" menu. This capability, sadly, seems to have vanished from the Classic, and I assume the new Nanos as well.
Other than making specific playlists for certain authors, anyone found a way to force the new interface to play nice with these and not separate them from the rest of your music?

I agree there's a problem and I sure hope that Apple fixes it in the next firmware update for the Classic iPod.
I have used every version of iPod (not nanos or whatever just iPods) and this one has definitely broken audiobook organization. On every previous model I simply went to "artists" and selected the name of the author and then had a nice list of the books (using the "album" attribute for book title) and then I could select the part of the book that I wanted to dive into which I could title using the song title attribute. I never ever found the straight audiobook listing particularly useful.
Now I've got to use the amusing "search" mechanism or spend a bunch of time screwing around with playlists to try and put some order in the chaos that some misguided engineers have introduced.
I can not for the life of me understand how the current audiobook category behavior ever got signed off on by QC and usability studies. The iPod Classic as it stands now is almost exclusively a music box rather than what I used to have which was a library of books. I do have music on my iPod but I rarely ever listen to it; rather, I spend hours each evening and in the early hours listening to various books some in audible.com format some that I've converted myself from CD or cassettes and so on
This is without a doubt the most completely non-user-engineered downgrade to an otherwise sterling product line that I've ever seen.

you do not need nearly as many packages on hold. Haven't logged into my 32-bit arch install for a month now, but I've maintained a xorg 1.4 install with this line just fine:
IgnorePkg = xf86-video-intel xf86-input-evdev xorg-server xorg-apps xorg-xkb-utils xorg-server-utils xorg-utils intel-dri synaptics libgl libdrm xorg-res-utils xf86driproto xf86-input-keyboard xkeyboard-config
That said, I expext to upgrade next time I use it (probably to play around with some fast boot). I would look into troubleshooting with the latest xorg and intel driver as it really should work, if I were you. I presume you have already tried starting x without a xorg.conf as a baseline test with those versions?

[SOLVED] Blinking screen - new Xorg and Intel issue

Screen is blinking after opening laptop lid no matter what i did (nothing, lock screen, hibernate, standby). It blinks every 10-20 seconds for about 1-2 seconds, and cpu% used by X's raises from 0.3-1.0 to even 10% and system slows down a little in that moment. My Xorg logs:

Blinking stops when i restart computer.
I have newest xorg and intel drivers (xorg-server 1.7.1.901-2 & xf86-video-intel 2.9.1-1). I tried also downgrade this (and related) packages to older versions (even xorg-server 1.5.* & xf86-video-intel 2.4.*) and the same happens... with only one difference. On that oldest packages I've tried screen doesn't blinks, but the wallpaper of the desktop is changing: my -> default -> my -> default... with the same frequency . I was googling a lot, believe me. I study IT on a University and I asked my friends from there, and they just run out of ideas. In addition i can write that it isn't my laptop fault because windows xp works fine and ubuntu 9.04 (i had before archlinux) also worked good. It has started on ubuntu 9.10, so I thought I move to archlinux, and its still here? I suppose its a problem with intel drivers or xorg, but somehow linked with power management of the monitor(?). But why then older packages don't work? Please, I will be grateful for any help.

SOLVED!!! Must enable KMS => switch off vga option in grub, and replace it with "i915.moduleset=1"

Yes, you can!(:
STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
