Classic does not start in Tiger - again!

I have read all the recent discussion about this, but nothing again exactly fits. I have just installed OS10.4.7 on my iMac over OS10.0 and Classic 9.1. Classic used to work perfectly, and now OS10.4.7 works perfectly, but Classic freezes when the smiling face appears. I can restart from 9.1, so that's a workaround.
Now, I've tried to update to OS9.2.2 as recommended on the support pages and in previous discussions, but when I use the installers, I get the message that they cannot be used to update the "localized" version of 9.1 that I have. So I am stuck. Any ideas???

Boot from OS 9.1 and try updating to 9.2.2. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288 for more information. Another option is to revert to 10.0, updating to 9.2.2, and then going to 10.4.7.

  • Appworld does not start... again!

    Hey everyone
since I upgraded my BlackBerry Appworld application to version 1.1.0.15 it does not start anymore. Updating to the latest version (1.1.0.19) did NOT solve the problem. Reinstalling doesn't help either.
As far as I know this is a known bug. Does anyone know if a solution exists?
    I'm using Appworld in German.
    Thanks for help
    Seb

OK...well, my German is a bit rusty, so I can't read that. But no matter...I don't know if that's an official RIM source or not...if it's just, like here, users saying what they say, then it can't necessarily be taken as authoritative. Nonetheless, your possible solutions are indeed recommended. I recommend that you do this:
    1) Remove AppWorld from your BB (Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Applications) -- if it requests that you reboot the BB, do so.
    2) Do a proper Batt-Pull reboot (with power ON, remove the battery, wait, replace, reboot).
    3) Get a new link and install a fresh copy of AppWorld (I don't know if there is a different link for different regions)
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp#tab_tab_download
Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
    4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
    5) See if it now works.
    Cheers!

  • Ipod Classic does not start up

I've tried the toggling of the Hold button, holding down the Menu, Play & Middle button...
Right now I have it plugged into my PC. It does not appear in my iTunes.
    HELP.

So the iPod does not even power on? If so, that would why it's not recognized in iTunes.
How old is the device and how long have you left it to charge?  If the iPod's battery was completed depleted, you'll need to wait at least half an hour (sometimes longer) before the device will or could show any signs of life.

  • Only starts up in Windows Vista does not start in Tiger

I've got a Macbook Black running on Tiger and I've also got Windows Vista running thru boot camp. Last night I was running Tiger fine. I did get a msg telling me my startup disk was almost full. I didn't have the time to delete some files to make space on my HD. So I just shut it down as per normal.
Today when I started up my machine it automatically keeps starting up in Vista. I tried holding down the option key for boot camp and I managed to click on Macintosh HD to try and start up in Tiger but it doesn't work. I get a blank screen with a cursor at the top left corner flashing momentarily then it starts up in Vista again.
I've run a trial copy of MacDrive on Vista to check if I needed to repair the Mac HD but it says that nothings wrong.
Sorry for the lengthy write up but I wanted to give as much details as possible to help diagnose this problem.
    Someone pls help!

    Hi,
Have you checked for updated drivers on the Toshiba website?
You could try downloading and installing these updates:
Cumulative update rollup for Windows Vista - this is a slightly older one so you might want to check the already installed updates in programs and features to make sure that it's not already installed before you download:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936003/en-us
Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600/en-us
Also try disabling user account control, it's a long shot but so many things in Vista won't run while it's switched on.
Let me know how you get on :)

  • Can not update tiger and safari does not start

    Hi everybody,
I have actually two but probably interrelated problems: First, safari does not start and second, I can not update tiger.
It all started a few days ago on my MacBook (Intel). Somehow, Safari produced an error (I only guess that it was Safari because I was downloading a movie clip) and Tiger was frozen. After rebooting, the whole system had problems (e.g., Safari and Skype were not starting). I tried to reinstall and archive mac os x but with no success. The problems were growing actually even worse (e.g., slow) and at some point in time, Tiger was not even starting. Thus, I did a full new installation of 10.4.8 (delete and install). Afterwards, it worked first but after the automatic software update, the system told me that their was an input/output error (???) during the 10.4.10 update. Afterwards, the whole system had again problems (slow and problems with even booting)!! Thus, the software update made it even worse. So, I did again a full installation (delete and install).
I have to update my 10.4.8 system, because I also have iLife08 that needs at least 10.4.9. However, I don't know what to do to avoid again these update problems??
In addition, despite the full installation, Safari is not starting. Thus, there is still some problems but I have now clue where this comes from as it is newly installed?!
    Any ideas?? Thanks...
    Crobus

Crobus, welcome, since you are starting from scratch with each re-install why not try Kappy's Extended Hard Drive Preparation.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5203987&#5203987
Do all steps from 1 thru 6, it is by far a more maintenance oriented than an Erase and Install. After the preparation, install OS 10 from your DVD, then download the OS 10.4.10 Combo Updater.

  • Classic not starting in tiger

I have a freshly installed copy of Tiger and an equally fresh copy of Mac OS 9.1 on my G3 Pismo. Tiger runs. And if I boot classic, it runs too.
But when I launch classic Tiger, it displays the startup screen and then hangs.
I can cancel the startup without a problem.
How do I figure out why Classic won't start?
    Gary

Please ignore my earlier reply. I rarely use Classic and had forgotten how it works. I must have been thinking about another emulation. The startup window looked like my normal OS 9 Desktop and I was expecting it to open the OS 9 Finder after the startup process. Pity Classic does not have any obvious route to OS 9 applications. I have now put both application folders in the Dock with 'A' and '9' icons.
I can now report that my Classic is working as it should.
If you have not already done so I advise updating to OS 9.2.2.
You will find OS 9 updates at one of the following (the first link will not download anything to the UK but it may work in the US):

My Photoshop Elements does not start any more. It gives response "Photoshop elements cannot start or continue because of missing file(s). Please reinstall." How do I get the installing file again (I bought it from Adobe via internet the first time december 2013?)

Did you download the Basic/Free version?
I also thought the Trial period was as long as you needed!?
What is your Warranty and Return Policy?
You get to use VueScan for as long as you want before you buy it, so we recommend you test it before you buy it to make sure it meets your needs.
All sales are final and there are no refunds.
Isn't this a bit harsh? Naah I actually prefer to solve problems, and if I offer refunds, people give up too easily. If I can't solve your problem after you send a few Problem Reports (see above), I'm happy to give a refund.

    Hey terremo,
Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like the iMac is successfully turning on, however video is not displayed. These symptoms can usually be isolated further by the troubleshooting steps in this article:

hi,i have a very big problem....i had an accident with my macbook , i poured some champagne and it does not start anymore....it will work again???

If you spilled champagne on it, chances are not good.  If you haven't alredy DO NOT turn it on or charge it.  I would immediately take it to the Genius Bar and see if they can clean it up before.
Had the same problem with a 15" MBP and a tea spill and I did the opposite.  Trashed the Logic & Keyboard Assembly.  Cost to repair was going to be more than what I paid for a computer so ended up having to replace it.

  • My imac does not start anymore (stops at the screen with the apple and a rotating circle). An idea what I could try to make it start again?

My Imac does not start anymore.
==> What I have already done:
    1) I tried with the tigger dvd to reinstall. It didn't succeed.
    2) Via the single mode, when starting I got the message "disk0s2: I/0 error" several times. After that I got "Root device is mounted read-only"
    3) Nevertheless, I tried the "fsck -yf" function. After checking "Journal HFS Plus volume", "extends overflow file", "catalog file"... and invalid record count
    ==> /dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
Can someone advices me? I red on the internet I could reformat the disk... loosing all the data I didn't backed up. How am I suppose to reformat?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

    Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Reset the PRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
Restart the computer while holding down your mouse button which if you hold it down long enough (5 minutes at most) should eject the disk
    If the disk still doesn't come out at that point then you need hardware evaluation;
contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.

    andres:
Running Repair Disk from your install disk as suggested by neuroanatomist is the best first step. I have outlined the procedure in detail below, with suggestions for what to do if DU reports errors it cannot repair:
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
What’s a kernel panic may help you identify the black screen you saw earlier. If it does, post back and let us know.
    Good luck.

Same thing happens when i click restart.
No difference when i run it in Safe mode. And it won't let me create a new profile either. Is there anyway else i can extract my bookmarks? This is driving me crazy!

Did the crash reporter send any crash reports?<br />
You can see the crash reports in this folder:
    "C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports"
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad
See also [[Firefox crashes when you open it]]
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br /><br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]<br /><br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br /><br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br /><br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox<br /><br />
If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    See:
