Classic firefox download window

In the latest version (26) the classic download window has vanished. In a previous update (21? or there abouts) the downloads window vanished and your downloads goes to the top of the firefox window where the upside down arrow is.
However after abit of research I found out that by going to about:config and changing the Boolean pref browser.download.useToolkitUI to true and I went to check just now and it's still set to true but I still don't have the downloads window. I don't like the horrible new way for downloads because you have to keep the browser open to keep the download from running which I don't like. Classic is ALWAYS best.

I also HATE the lack of the download window, I dont mind the little icon on the tool bar, just give me the big (or any size you pick) list window of all downloads; sometimes I need to go after a failed download, also though I have the download window addon it doesnt show duplicates - ie: file, file-1, file-2, ect.

  • Firefox download window blank after macosx upgrade

    Hi,
things worked fine on MacBook, macosx 10.4 and Mozilla 3.6
Since I upgraded to macos x 10.6, the Firefox download window still popped up but went blank after a fraction of a second.
Now upgraded to Mozilla 4.0 and the download window is now always blank.
Had a try with Safari, which works fine.
Went through all the instructions in
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Downloads%20window%20is%20blank
    and problem is still there.

    That worked. Thanks very much.

  • Suspicious Firefox download window

An official Firefox download window was presented for a security update. I did this and a few minutes later, another window appeared mentioning an add-on Firefox update. It had a hyperlink in the window for more information about the update--but the link did nothing. I was half-asleep and can't believe I hit 'next' --it began installing. I realized in that instant it might not be a legitimate update and closed the install window before it completed--am I safe from the virus it was probably trying to put on my computer?

There have been quite a few bogus sites recently that purport to be an update for Firefox but are trying to get you to install malware.
To ensure that you have not been infected, try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

  • Downloads dragged and dropped from Firefox download window into Outlook e-mail show as file location text.

I have a user who normally can drag files from Firefox's Download window into an e-mail in Outlook and it creates an attachment of that file in the e-mail. However, lately, the dragged .pdf or whatever file only shows up as a text file location like:
    \\file:%Downloads%\randomfile.pdf
It's not a link either, it's just the text.
I've tried doing a repair of Outlook.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 19.
I've tested dragging items from the desktop to the e-mail and it works fine.
I can't drag and drop from the Downloads window to the desktop.
I just wanted to add this user is using Windows XP Pro.

I can confirm that this is an issue with the newest release of Firefox. I just upgraded my Firefox, which was previously 18.02 to 19.0 and now I'm getting the same error. It's a bug.

  • When i double click on and item in the firefox downloads window the item dosn't open, left clicking on the item still dose not give me the choice to "open". how to fix this problem thanks

When i double click on an item in the firefox dowloads window the item dos'nt open.Left clicking on the item dose not give me the choice to "open" the item.
the downloaded item is a pdf file of 59 kb, and was downloaded using adobe acrobat version 5

I have sort of the exact same problem. Extremely far away from user friendly
I have an second issue as well: When I hook off all-day it comes up with an 8 hour event!
And then if I put in a late start hour it pushes end time to next day due to the 8 hour event suggestion.
All in all this gives a lot of changes just to enter an event.
    Command N
I learnt from your input to use this fuction. At least that comes up with a one hour event as default.

    * Have your provider test your web service
    * Check your modem
    * Have you tried using a download manager.
There are add-on DownManagers. There are also external managers.
    Go to the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Mozilla Add-ons Web Page]''' {web link}
(There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

  • In Windows XP Professional, when the Firefox downloads window is open, it prevents the autohide of the taskbar working

It is not a real solution to have Downloads close when the download is complete, as this makes working on the latest download harder.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Did you restart FireFox after making changes to the about:config page?
As well as check the about:config again to make sure Updating to FF10 did not reset/change any previous altered settings?

  • Downloads show in downloads window, but disappear from window as soon as finished downloading.

I start a download (say, CCleaner from filehippo.com). The firefox "downloads window" opens and the file appears, downloads, virus scans, but then it just disappears. I'm left with an empty "downloads window". The downloaded file is in my downloads folder and I have to run it from there.
It never did this before and changing settings in OPTIONS or disabling ADD-ONS has no effect.

    See:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > "Remember download history"
Also check the Clear Recent History (and CCleaner) settings if you use it.

  • Some downloads show up in the downloads window as "cancelled", and although I can resume the download by clicking on the icon, the download doesn't then show up in the target folder--how can this be fixed?

This happens a lot when I try to download and ".exe" file. I first get the window and click that I want to save the file. Then I select the folder to save it to. Then the Firefox download window opens and the file is listed, but it says "canceled". I click the circular arrow (or right click and select "retry"), and the file then shows as downloading in the Firefox download window. But then if I right click on it, the option to open the file or the folder containing it is greyed out, and, if I go to Windows Explorer to look for the file in the folder where it was supposed to be saved, it is not there. (I checked the download help topics and couldn't find an answer to this problem.)

    Hi Frustratedannon!
I completely understand your frustration regarding these issues. Allow me to suggest a couple of things that may help lessen your frustration and resolve some issues. First, you should look to see if you have Automatic Downloads activated on your iPad (it could explain why the Simpsons game would have showed up on your iPad out of the blue):
iTunes Store: How to enable Automatic Downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4539
In order to actually get rid of the Simpsons app or finish downloading it, you may need to try turning off your iPad, then turning it back on. You also may need to try a reset, which is a simple power cycle procedure that does not affect your data on your iPad. Both of these steps are explained in the following article:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • The link "go to download page" in the downloads window is greyed out, how do I enable it?

When I open the Firefox downloads window and select a file I had previously downloaded and right click on it, the "Go To Download Page" selection is greyed out, it wont let me click on it.

i downloaded this. when I add it to Firefox is says it's incompatible with Firefox v22. v22 is messing with my "flow". I hate updates that mess with how my stuff was working beforehand.
hmm, wonder can I go back to the previous version of Firefox that WAS working with my "download" button showing on every youtube page i viewed. how does one go back to the previous version of Firefox (better question, what WAS the previous version of Firefox?). I am not liking v22 and have taken it off auto update now.

  • Firefox Downloads (in classic or new download window) does not show progress or downloads

I noticed that when I download anyhitng that the download window (classic and new) windows do not show progress anymore, do not show files downloaded, nor give me anything to right-click and go to that folder, in which it was saved. I had it fixed for 1 day, until it started to lose the files the next day.
I only see the arrow turning green, with no result within the downloadswindow.
    I had done the following:
    1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
o The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
    2. In the Search field, type browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone.
    3. Double-click on the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone setting to change its value to false.
You can set the Boolean pref browser.download.useToolkitUI to true on the about:config page to restore the classic Download Manager window.
    Yet this problem still continues.

in Firefox can not see the Downloads window, in the jump in the boot to be seen - the download speed
Downloaded much and now can not see how to fix it?

I hate the new downloads-in-a-tab scheme. This was an unnecessary change in my book (if it aint broke, don't "fix it").
So in order to get it back, I performed the about:config browser.download.useToolkitUI change, but now all I get is a blank download window that pops up every time I download something.
Is there something else that I need to do? I've checked the change and it was saved, but it didn't resolve my issue as much as it just caused me a new issue.

  • Firefox 4.01 downloads files but the downloads windows greys out the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options and I can't trace the files

Three days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.01. I downloaded several files that were ok. Yesterday and today I downloaded one powerpoint file and a an apple *.dmg file.
On the Download window these two files I can see with the total mb in size. However when I right click the file list in the Download window the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options are greyed out. What is more I cannot find these files anywhere on my computer when I use Windows Explorer to search.
It seems that this happened after I tried to download a Firefox add on from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/64761/amazonassist-0.7.2.6-fx.xpi and my antivirus picked up the JS/Kryptik.AK trojan and terminated the connection. Is there a link with the problem I am experiencing?
    I use Windows 7 professional, Firefox 4.01
