Classic infosets

hi bw experts,
cam anyone explain about the term Classic infosets?
Whats the difference between Infoset and Classic infoset?
In the SAP library , its gives the list of all the datasets that u report on using Infoset query ? explain what that exaclty mean?

Hello Venkat;
Infoset:
InfoSet describes data sources that are defined as a rule as joins of ODS objects or InfoObjects (characteristics with master data). If one of the InfoObjects contained in the join is a time-dependent characteristic, the join is a time-dependent or temporal join.
Classic InfoSet:
A Classic InfoSet gives you a view of a dataset that you report on using the InfoSet Query. The Classic InfoSet determines which tables or fields within a table an InfoSet Query refers to.
Hope this helps.

    Dear Friends,
How do we understand and How do we know that the Classic Infoset needs to be Created ?
A small Scenario will be fine for me .
Are we calling or relating the Classic infoset with Infosets in the Real time projects ?
Classic Infoset is also used for Query Purposes . Correct ?
    Thanks ,
    Ramesh

    Hi,
What is the difference between the Features of  Infoset and Classic Infoset ?
It is like,  the <b>Material code is same for a scenario</b> . when an Iron Component of same material has been manufactured in different dimensions/measurements.
We have Loaded the master data ( details of the Manufactured components) and Looking for a Transaction of how each of the material had been sold out .This can
be calculated  as a Projected Sale at the end of every month ( Using keyfigures as a Characteristic) and Actual Sale Happened.
With material Code as  Unique characteristic we are joining the Both the projected and actual  and prepare the query
have I Presented the Info as what it has to be ?

    Classic InfoSet
    Definition
A Classic InfoSet gives you a view of a dataset that you report on using the InfoSet Query. The Classic InfoSet determines which tables or fields within a table an InfoSet Query refers to.
    Use
Since Release 2.0B, InfoSets have been used in the Business Information Warehouse for InfoObjects (master data), ODS objects, and joins for these objects. These InfoSets are Basis Objects, not BW Repository Objects. The InfoSet Query can be used to carry out tabular (flat) Reporting on these InfoSets.
As of Release 3.0, these InfoSets are called classic InfoSets.
    Integration
As of Release 3.0A, you can avoid having to fully implement Classic InfoSets that were constructed and used in Release 2.0B by using the transformation program RSQ_TRANSFORM_CLASSIC_INFOSETS. This simplifies the procedure. The result here is that all ODS objects and all InfoObjects as well as the join conditions are transferred into the new object.
    The following restrictions apply:
    · For technical reasons, all additional definitions of the Classic InfoSet (additional tables, additional fields, text fields, limits, coding for the various points in time) are not transferred into the new InfoSet. Comparable definition options are not available in the new InfoSets. As an alternative, use the option available when defining BEx queries (calculated key figures, for example). For more information, see Query Design: BEx Query Designer. If this method is not a sufficient replacement for the definitions stored in a Classic InfoSet, continue to use the Classic InfoSet.
    · You cannot transform InfoSet Queries.
    1. In the ABAP Editor, initiate the program RSQ_TRANSFORM_CLASSIC_INFOSETS (transaction SE38). The Classic InfoSet ® InfoSet Conversion screen appears.
    2. In the selection screen, enter the name of a Classic InfoSet in the system as well as the name of an InfoSet that is not already in the system.
    3. Choose Execute. The program checks whether transformation is possible, carries it out if necessary and then activates the newly created InfoSet.
    hope it helps,

  • BW infoset VS Classic infoset

    Hello all
    BW 3.5 patch 13
I have created a BW infoset on an ods. When I try to create a extract structure in RSO2 in BW I don't see the BW infoset.
I can create a Classic infoset (SQ01..3) on a ODS table and see that infoset in RSO2.
Am I missing some steps or we can use bw infosets for extraction? I thought we were suppose to go away from Calssic infosets?
    thanks

  • Classic Infoset or a table in it does not delete

    Hi Gurus,
I have a classic infoset that has been developed using p-tables of some master data Infoobjects in BW.
I am trying to delete one of these table but I get a message that the table is not used and nothing happens. I cannot delete a table.
I checked that there are no user groups associated with this infoset in SQ03.
    Any help?

  • Unable to Access BI InfoSet in Crystal Reports using SAP Info sets driver

    Hi,
I am looking to develop a report on top of BI InfoSet in Crystal Reports. However using the the SAP InfoSets driver I am only able to visualize 'Classic InfoSet' and 'SAP Query'. It does not show the option to import the regular InfoSet as a datasource. I am unable to access the InfoSet built by the db join on InfoCubes that is available in SAP BW System.
    Can anybody help.
    Thanks,
    Amogh

    Hi all,
i know this discussion is abaout 2 years old, but i faced a similar problem. I try to get access to the regular InfoSets (SQ02) within a direct connection between SAP and Crystal Reports. Which components and tools did i need to get a connection?

  • Can I access Infoset variable from Crystal Reports

    Hi,
In order to connect Crystal Reports 2008 to the SAP environment I have the Integration kit.
I have learnt that Crystal also offers InfoSet driver to connect to SAP.
If I need to access SAP BI- Infoset variables inside Crystal Reports is it possible to do that. If no, then do I need to have the filter using the variable value instead of the fixed filter value?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Amogh.

    Hi Amogh,
the InfoSet connectivity that Crystal Reports offers as a direct Infoset connectivity is towards the classic InfoSets from ERP.
    see here:
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/02/07/businessobjects-and-sap-part-i
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/03/23/businessobjects-and-sap-part-4
In case you want to connect to an InfoSet in a BW system you would put a BW query on top of the InfoSet and then use the BW Query in Crystal Reports.

    Hi,
infosets are nothing but...it is a link between info objects and data targets(ods,cube)...if we do these link between them only....we can get the report in BEX analyzer...where use the infoset name to get reports...same llike ...to get the report....we can use multiprovider also...but in infoset.. link being the common datas(link between the common primary dats)...in multiprovider...can view all datas in report..there is no links between common datas....here ods is overritable..
    further queries...go through this links......

  • CR 2008 unable to retrieve InfoSets from SAP

    Hi all,
We have a working connection of CR 2008 to SAP Tables, Functions and Clusters, but the SAP InfoSet connectivity fails to display available infoSets in SAP. The connectivity to SAP InfoSet DB is working fine and we can see both Classical and Global infoset under SAP InfoSet and then below Classical InfoSet and Global InfoSet there is no further entries.
Surely, this is not an auth issue since SAP Tables and clusters are accessible but only the InfoSets are not reachable.
Please suggest if you have any possible root cause in mind.
    Regards.

The issue is resolved. This happened because the CR user logging in to ECC server had no user group assigned to which any InfoSet belong. Thus, by creating a new User Group in SQ01 and assigning required users and InfoSets we were able to retrieve assigned InfoSets in CR.
Thanks to Ingo for his previous post where he pointed out this. Following is the post that helped resolving this issue.

  • Transport Req for Infoset - SQ02

    Hello all,
First time I created a generic datasource based on Infoset . The Infoset is created in SQ02 (Joining 2 tables).
Now I have problem in collecting this Infoset in the transport request.
I tried doing in transport connection, but it collects only the datasource.
Later I collected the classic Infoset in transport connection under the same transport request.
Please let me know if i am wrong or missed to collect some objects.
    Regards..
    Balaji

    Hi,
First go to Transport connection and select the collection mode as collect automatically.
then select all the prerequsites given by the system.
Otherwise go to Transport connection and select grouping and further select the option 'In dataflow before and afterwards'.
    And then transport it.
    Hope it helps you.

  • What is temporal join  in infoset

what is temporal join  in infoset?

    Dear Viswnadha,
Description of a specific kind of InfoProvider: InfoSet describes data sources that are defined as a rule as joins of DataStore objects, standard InfoCubes  and/or InfoObjects (characteristics with master data). If one of the InfoObjects contained in the join is a time-dependent characteristic, the join is a time-dependent or temporal join.
An InfoSet is a semantic layer over the data sources.

  • SQ02 Infoset - security hole

    Hi,
I have heard, that SQ02 (creating Infosets) has several security holes (regarding authority). Does anybody know about it and could specify these holes?

    Hi
Steps on how to proceed to create a Query:
    ADHOC QUERY
A query can be created to extract information from master records  i.e  Infotypes.  For example, by creating a query , the data relating to an employee contained in various Infotypes can be extracted.
    Proceedure :
Decide on  the various Infotypes we  want to make the query.  Decide on the area where we  want to query  i.e  Global area or Standard area.  Standard area is client specific and globel area will include all clients.
Menu : HR – PM – Admn -  Information System -  Adhoc Query
Select area standard and select the  user group already created
    Creation of new query  :
TC SQ03  -  Select Environment – Select Standard Area -  Enter  --  If new user group is to be created, enter name of the user group, click on create and enter necessary information and  exit after saving
TC SQ02  -  Enter name of the Infoset – Create – enter name of Infoset -  Data source -- >  Table join by basis table – give name of table e.g  pa0000 -  Enter -  Click on insert table if we  want to include more tables – give name of table one by one and after finishing,  place cursor on the joining lines and right click to delete unwanted relationships  - check  - and go back  - field groups  -  include all table fields  - click on generate button   -  go out
TC SQ03  -  Select user group  -   eg.  Payroll
Infoset  - Enter name of newly created Infoset
Assign users and Infosets  -  Assign infosets  -  put tick on payroll  - save and go back
TC  PAAH  -  Expand the nodes and put tick on relevant fields depending upon necessity
Save the query  by giving the same name as infoset for easyness..
    Use
The InfoSet Query is designed for reporting on data stored in flat tables. It is particularly useful for reporting on joins for master data and joins for ODS objects.
    Prerequisites
You must take the following steps before you can create Infoset queries:
    ·        Set up Roles for the InfoSet Query
    ·        Process Classic InfoSets and Assign Roles
    Procedure
    Define the InfoSet Query
           1.      Call the Query Builder. There are various ways of doing this:
To call the Query Builder from the corresponding role menu or from the BEx Browser, double-click on the InfoSet Query entry in the menu that is created when you set up a role.
Developers and testers of Classic InfoSets are able to call up the Query Builder directly from the Classic InfoSet overview in the Administrator Workbench.
If several Classic InfoSets are assigned to a role, and one of them has been identified as a standard Classic InfoSet, this Classic InfoSet is used as a template when the query is called up. To change the template, choose Create New Query – Classic InfoSet Selection. Any of the Classic InfoSets that are assigned to the role can be the new template.
           2.      Define your query. The procedure is similar to the procedure for defining queries in the BEx Analyzer.
Transfer individual fields from the field groups you have selected in the Classic InfoSet into the preview. To do this, use the drag and drop function, or highlight the relevant fields in the field list.
Use either of these two methods to select any fields you want to use as filters. These fields are displayed in the Selections area of the screen (top right).
When you are preparing the query, only example data is displayed in the Preview. When you choose the Output or Refresh function, the actual results are displayed on the same screen.
           3.      Execute the query.
           4.      Choose from the following options:
    Ad hoc reporting
You do not want to save the query for later. Save the Query Builder without saving.
    Reusable queries
You want to save the query, because you want to work on it later, or use it as a template. Use either the Save or the Save as function to save the query.
In addition to the Classic InfoSets that you assigned to the role, you are also able to use the query as a template. It is not possible, however, to access the query from other roles.
After you save the query, a second dialog box appears, asking you if you want to save the query as a separate menu entry within the role. If you choose this option, you are able to start the query directly from the user menu or from the BEx Browser. It is also possible to use the Role Maintenance transaction (PFCG) to save this kind of role entry.
Choose Menu ® Refresh to display the query.
If you want to change or delete the saved query, use the Edit function from the context menu in the BEx Browser to call the maintenance tool for InfoSet Queries with this query as a template.
    InfoSet Query on the Web
It is possible to publish each InfoSet Query on the Web. There are the following display options:
    ·        MiniALV for creating MiniApps in the SAP Workplace
    ·        MidiALV without selection options
    ·        MidiALV with selection options
Both the MiniALV and the MidiALV allow you to switch between various selection/layout variants. The publishing screen for the data is adjusted individually using URL parameters.
The following prerequisites are necessary for security reasons:
Releasing the query for the Web
Specifying an authorization group for the corresponding Classic InfoSet
Call up transaction RSQ02 InfoSet: Entry, and choose Go to ® Additional Functions ® Web Administration of Queries. Make the corresponding entries.
    Reward all helpfull answers

  • Use of infoset

could anyone please tell me the use of infoset?

    Hi,
    InfoSet
    Definition
Description of a specific kind of InfoProvider: InfoSet describes data sources that are defined as a rule as joins of DataStore objects, standard InfoCubes  and/or InfoObjects (characteristics with master data). If one of the InfoObjects contained in the join is a time-dependent characteristic, the join is a time-dependent or temporal join.
An InfoSet is a semantic layer over the data sources.
Unlike the classic InfoSet, an InfoSet is a BI-specific view of data.
For more information, see the following documentation: InfoProviders, Classic InfoSets.
    Use
With activated InfoSets you can define queries in the BI suite.
InfoSets allow you to analyze the data in several InfoProviders by using combinations of master data-bearing characteristics, InfoCubes and DataStore objects. The system collects information from the tables of the relevant InfoProviders. When an InfoSet is made up of several characteristics you can map transitive attributes and analyze this master data.
You create an InfoSet using the characteristics Business Partner (0BPARTNER) – Vendor (0VENDOR) – Business Name (0DBBUSNAME) and can thereby analyze the master data.
You can use an InfoSet with a temporal join to map periods of time (see Temporal Joins). With all other types of BI object, the data is determined for the key date of the query, but with InfoSets with a temporal join, you can specify a particular point in time at which you want the data to be evaluated. The key date of the query is not taken into consideration in the InfoSet.

  • Link in the Infoset

    Hi,
I am trying to create an Infoset on 0Material, 0Mat_SALES and 0MAT_PLANT for master data reporting. I am unable to find any links between them. Initially I thought it could be Material Number but I could find material in all the table. I found 0material, 0mat_sales and 0mat_plant in the resp. table but I am not sure if they all are same. Please could someone guide me through to find the links between them.
    Best Regards,
    Nene.

    Hello NeNe,
I worried as I misunderstood that as Classical InfoSet. You could easily do the Linking in the IA -> Create InfoSet itself.

  • Best Practice SAP connection

    Hello All
I am just starting creating reports with CR2008 connected to SAP ECC 6.0.  I am suffering some performance issues when trying to create a report on tables VBAK, VBAP and LIPS. Report performance is extremely slow. I have a few questions on this:
    1. Can anyone point me to some documentation that would help me set up SAP and CR2008 for improved performance when reporting directly on tables.
    2. Performance wise Is it better to report on an Classic Infoset rather than directly on a table in CR2008
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
