Classic's Scroll wheel works differently from iPod Video?

My new Classic fits just about perfectly in the case I've been using with my 80 gig iPod video...except for something weird. The Classic can't seem to sense my finger rotating around the scroll wheel through whatever kind of plastic InCase uses to protect the scroll wheel. Button pushes work just fine, and the scroll wheel on the iPod Video has always worked just fine in the InCase case. What's changed about the scroll sensing on the Classic?

I didn't own a 5g iPod but: When you touch 2 spots on the classic's wheel at the same time, the wheel won't work. Just try it yourself: Put a finger on some spot on the wheel and then scroll anywhere else on the wheel - nothing happens (except for when both spots are real close together. then the wheel thinks you just have kind of a big thumb or something :D)
So maybe this is different from the 5g wheel? I mean this is exactly what happens with a plastic case, isn't it? If you push down the plastic, it touches the wheel not only on the spot where you push it down, but slightly touches it on one or several other spots.
Maybe that's not the solution, but maybe it is ^^

  • Why does my mouse scroll wheel work upside down?

I have a Logitech portable mouse attached to my Macbook Pro and the scroll wheel works backward so when I pull down on the wheel the page does up and vice versa.  Is it me or is there a setting in my Mac I need to reverse?

Thank you Ralph. In my Mac I had a box that said, "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating and it was checked.  As soon as I unchecked the box, the problem was solved.

Apple didn't make this easy, did they! When Lion first came out, I think that check box was under the Trackpad heading of the System Preferences, whether you actually had a trackpad or not. I take it there's nothing there, either?
I plugged a plain ol' three button Logitech mouse into the iMac, and while the Mouse panel options did change some, the same check box for Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating was there.

  • How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(7 and using VISTA).

How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(i'm using iTunes7 and Vista).
I don't have the disc, cause i can't find it. But my computer downloaded the ipod, it just cant find the files?
i've been looking through the topics for the past hour and none of them helped. Maybe i'm stupid i dont really know, but i've restored my old computer a couple times and i found a post and it helped both times. now i can't find it anymore.
THIS IS THE ONE I'VE BEEN SEEING AND IT DOESN'T HELP ME ONE BIT:
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
Can someone give me a link, or tell me one that shows step by step.

Here is a way of doing it, for another take on this, search the forum for posts by Zevoneer.
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:

Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • 80Gb Ipod Classic, scroll wheel works, button's won't respond

The hold switch is disengaged, the scroll wheel still responds when touched, but none of the buttons (menu, play, advance, etc) respond, making it impossible to navigate the Ipod menus and impossible to listen to music.
I haven't taken any steps to fix this yet, I just wanted to see if anybody else was having similar issues and if so, what I should do to fix it.
    Thanks.

    Never mind.
I updated the software on the iPod and the problem went away.

  • Plz Help: ipod buttons do not work, but the scrolling wheel work normally

    Hi everyone,
All the controlling buttons on my girlfriend's ipod nano 3rd gen do not work.
However, the scrolling wheel is still functional.
Everything works, except the controlling buttons (menu, play, prev, next)
Is there any possible reason or solution for this?
    The ipod is a 8GB product(RED) one.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!
This sounds like a hardware problem to me. If it's under warranty, take it to an Apple store. If not, take it anyway. They still may be able to help. If they can't, you can try sending it away to a company that fixes iPods. However, this may cost more than it's worth. You may find yourself buying a new iPod.

  • Is the new iPod classic's scroll wheel less sensitive?

I have an iPod video that had a silicone skin on it.  When I put the it on the new iPod classic I recently bought, it can't sense my scrolling.  Same issue when I put it in my armband that has a plastic cover.  Curious to know how many other people have or have had this issue.  Wondering if there's any way to change the sensitivity on the iPod.

I think the topic starter means iPod 3G not the second generation iPhone 3G.
But sorry, I don't know. I never used the new USB-cable for the iPod 3G, I always used Firewire.

  • Why isn't the scroll wheel working properly with Firefox 4?

I have a new Windows 7 PC at work with Firefox 4 on it. The scroll wheel on my mouse is not working right. It will work if I use Internet Explorer but I have trouble getting it to work with Firefox. Usually what I have to do is click the wheel to get that mode of scrolling where you move the mouse up and down to scroll the screen and that will work. And then when I click the wheel again to get out of that mode, my scroll wheel will work as expected. But I don't want to have to do that all the time. And sometimes that trick doesn't work. The scroll wheel is working fine with MS Excel and Lotus Notes and Internet Explorer, etc, so it seems to be something the new Firefox has an issue with.

I fixed my problem! I was messing around in msconfig to turn off Lync from my Startup list and noticed something called Mouse Suite 98 was in my Startup. I did a quick google check and learned I could remove it without doing any harm. And voila! My scrollwheel is working properly with Firefox, finally! Hope this helps someone out there.

  • Since upgrading to 10.8, my mouse scroll wheel works in reverse.  When I rotate the wheel towards me, the page scrolls up.  Can this be configured or fixed?  It is not an apple mouse.

Have been happily using a Microsoft optical wheel mouse with my 27" iMac for a year or so.  Just upgraded the OS to 10.8.4.
Now, when I rotate the scroll wheel towards myself, instead of scrolling down the page, it scrolls up.  Microsoft doesn't yet have a driver for
anything past 10.7.  Can this be configured somehow to act as it used to?

Many thanks!  I clicked the link Barney-15E provided, and found this page:

There is a free app out there that fixes this. I tried it and it does what we want.
    http://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/
It took about 2 seconds to download the app, install it, and be back to normal mouse wheel behavior.
    I'm grateful for the help.

  • Cannot delete playlists from iPod Video

When I connect mu iPod Video to my PC or laptop using Windows XP, my iTunes opens, my iPod is recognized yet I can't see any playlists anywhere in my iPod when connected to the computers. When I disconnect, I have 6 different playlists that I've created over time. I want to delete these as needed. They seem to be created from my "On The Go" playlist when I create one. How can I delete? I've read and followed instructions on the Help site. The biggest problem is that there are no playlists shown when I select iPod from the source list once connected. I can't try to delete if I can't see it.

To clear the entire On-the-Go playlist, on your IPOD go to Music>Playlist>On-the-Go>Clear Playlist
To remove an individual song in a On-the-Go playlist, select the song in the playlist, press and hold the center button until the song flashes.
    Hope that helps you!

  • *** What video output quality can I do from iPod video onto a tv?

I have HDV footage. Wondering if I have to squish it to mpeg-4 to get it onto my iPod or could I load it as full quality onto my iPod video (about 1.3 gb) and then connect it to a tv and show it full quality on the tv? Would that work? What kind of output connectors does the iPod video have?

You do have to convert it to mp4. And the resolution is only 320 X 240, so you'll be pretty disappointed in the picture quality on a tv. Video on the iPod is primarilly for viewing on the pod itself. I was however surprised how good some dvd material I have looked considering that small resolution. I had considered loading tons of movies onto mine for camping trips and travel, but I think I'll just continue to pack up a bunch of DVDs and a player for that considering how much better it looks. 320 x 240 is pretty tiny. But it is pretty novel to play movies and tv from such a compact player. Oh yeah, you'll also need an iPod-specific video cord to attach to a tv or monitor. A regular A/V mini plug won't work.
    Good luck and have fun.

  • Camera Connector not working anymore with iPod Video

    Hello,
I have a iPod Video 60GB which I bought last year along with a Camera Connector.
The problem I have, is that the Connector isn't recognised by the iPod anymore. Even when the camera is on and connected at the other end. The camera is a Sony DSC-V3 which has worked fine before.
But, I'm assuming the problem is with the Connector since, before the iPod would recognise the connector and show the 'connect device' screen.
The iPod still says, 'connect device', when I go through the menu and choose Photo>Photo Import
I've been tearing my hair out for over a week with this, with no luck.
Any insight as to how I could fix this? Also, has anyone else come across a similar problem?
    Thanks and best regards,

yes.. just plug in the new ipod to your computer and it will sync whats on your library to your new ipod.

  • Booting from iPod Video

After reading through some posts and actually trying it myself, I am pretty sure that my iPod can not be a boot disk because of being USB. I also couldn't take an older iPod transfer cable that is firewire and use it on mine, correct?
    15" Powerbook G4, Black 30GB iPod Video   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am pretty sure that my iPod can not be a boot disk because of being USB
That's correct. PowerPC based Macs cannot boot from a USB external drive.
I also couldn't take an older iPod transfer cable that is firewire and use it on mine, correct?
That's correct. You can only use a firewire cable to charge your iPod. Data transfer (including booting) is not possible via firewire.
